Turns out the optional extra Fanatec v3 pedal tuning kit white elastomer fits perfectly onto the v1.5 handbrake (inside the spring) once you drill a hole down the middle. Resistance feedback is then perfectly progressive and feels fantastic. The v2 handbrake still needs a “elastomer” to give the load cell something to push against and to give a progressive feeling. So don’t throw away your v1.5 handbrake yet until you try this mod. The nut on the end of the spring shaft lets you adjust preload to your liking. Fine tune the elastomer height to adjust the overall throw length.
Great review, as a v1.5 owner this is more of a reliability upgrade than anything else. The v1.5 is super inconsistent and the 3.5mm aux jack connector is terrible
1.5 use here also; long time ago the potentiometer stops working and I change it for a hall sensor, spring is awful also exchange it… plastic washer exploded also… change it for a metallic one. All may have point out the 3.5 connector is simply a headache. New model seems like a fix for all those issues but the asking price is currently prohibiting. Moza has a better offering and the quality also looks good. So bad I’m deep in to the fanatec ecosystem. I’ll keep my modded hand brake
I have a TM TH8A shifter, that I took the sequential plate opened it up. I removed the spring, I just use it as a guide. With the shifter rotated to handbrake I reinstalled the cover. I added an external compression spring from a hardware store for resistance. I only use it for rally and I am not very good at using it or rally, but I have a ton of fun. I already had the shifter, I am now all Fanatec GT DD, and Shifter SQ V1.5 and V3 Inverted pedals. I attached a junkyard seat to a base and to the DD wheel stand. Not pretty, but it all works well and it is solid. I can't drift so... Yeah. LOL.
Helpful video -- so much detail as always! Your channel is the first place I go when I'm considering new sim racing gear. Will, I blame you for sending me down the sim racing rabbit hole which I just posted a video about on my new channel... 😀
The need for a USB adapter is another chapter in the book of "Just Fanatec Things". Cannot think of another competitor that hugs their own ecosystem so hard. I approve of Will's suggestion to check what else's on the market. If you are a rally enthusiast and willing to spend about €200, take a look at the Sim-Lab handbrake. It's *really* good and worth the price.
Very true. I understand why they do it. They expect most people will have a Fanatec wheelbase or pedals already, so needing to both fit and eat the cost of an onboard USB controller board for every handbrake comes down to purely a money-saving decision. It also gives them flexibility to use the same adapter for either their shifters or handbrakes, and in this case, introduce an entirely new handbrake without having to redo the USB interface. If you're a console user, it makes sense. If you're on PC, there are many other options out there.
Thanks for another great review. Because I don't have a handbrake already, it seems like this might be a decent option for me as I primarily play on console with a Fanatec base anyways. I think the build quality and look alone seems like a nice upgrade over the 1.5. Maybe it's worth waiting a few months to see if their quality control can start catching the bolt/panel fitment issues more regularly.
@boostedmedia Thank you for calling out Fanatec on their quality control. Gas pedal bump stop got loosened in my V3 pedals so it started to develop strange issue when pressing gas pedal felt like pressing on a jelly bean or like pedal was gliding on some silicone and you have to apply extra resistance to overcome it. I was lucky it happened a week before warranty went out. Anyway, I disassembled my gas pedal (done it once before to replace the spring to a heavier one) - threads in the aluminium block got stripped (mind that bolts were finger-tight). I had to remove the foot plate to remove the pedals to send them in for repair - all 3 bolt heads got stripped as well (small red aluminium hex bolts). I even had to drill one out just to be able to remove the plate and remote pedals from the cockpit. It was second time I was removing them (first time was during the install). When I was installing the pedals 2 years ago I was not sure how to adjust them so I removed big red aluminium hex bolts - they got stripped to hell as well. I got replacement bolts from Fanatec but they said that none of those red bolts were supposed to be removed. Huh!? This is abysmal! Pedals are great but they don't survive more that one installation/disassemble. I had bolt/hole alignment issues on my V1.5 handbrake as well.
Great review as always. Even if you're not needing the extra precision and control, this should still be a major step up when it comes to actual feel and immersion, compared to the v1.5
I can't believe Fanatec are still requiring the purchase of their adaptor for use without a Fanatec wheelbase. The Moza handbrake I switched to from the Fanatec V1.5 has a USB port and isn't very expensive.
Well when you order a Podium Hub they still ship the QR1 connector instead of the QR2, so literally every steering wheel you buy costs $99.99 more because only 3 of them come with a QR2 (Bentley, BMW, and Monte Carlo)... edit: Make that 4 because they just released an overpriced version of the Formula V2.5 wheel with Red Bull shit all over it to make it still not look anything like the actual F1 wheel in an RB.
I'm an owner of the CSW v2.5, CSL DD, and a DD+, and I recommend the Simagic TB-RS handbrake. Since I already own a GT Neo, I purchased a Simagic Alpha on a BF sale($530), after Fanatec failed to repair my DD+ after two attempts in 3 months. Now my DD+ is back to Fanatec for replacement evaluation. Evaluated by the same morons who couldn't evaluate my DD+ prior to shipping it back un-repaired twice?! And get this, they initially recommended, and sent me, a QR1L replacement to resolve the "clunking" sound eminating internally from the DD+ as the wheel is quickly turned to the right? A QR1L is NOT COMPATIBLE with a DD+! I sure hope Corsair can turn Fanatec around, otherwise I'm going to enjoy seeing Fanatec circle the drain.
Great review, as always Will. Maybe you have been asked this before. Have you ever thought about calibrating with a company to design a few projects? I think that your implementation of your ideas would make a great product.
Thanks Will, fantastic review as always and thanks for saving me a few hard earned bucks ‘cause I’m a sucker for new toys and like you said my skill level would not see any difference in the 1.5v I have. Cheers mate!
It’s been made for the console peasants. It’s the best plan overall and like you say on pc we have so many options, console can choose Fanatec or an Amazon third party handbrake.
At least on a positive note, changing the arm angle won't be the fuster cluck it is with V1.5!! 😡🤪 If you know, you know!!! 😊 Going to have to chew on this awhile. At $199.99 US, it's sure to be at least $249.99 Cad plus exchange/shipping/import fees! Close to $350 Cad I'm thinking? Not sure I'll pull the trigger just yet and have to wait until next years BF sales.
Well, my verdict is in. This bad boy would set me back just shy of $379 🇨🇦 after exchange/ shipping/ duties!😢 I can't justify spending that kind of money for it. Working with a 70c dollar really sucks! Maybe I'll go for it next year's BF sale if I can get it for $100 less?
Thanks for a nice review! Would have been interesting about more details on the actual usage of the handbrake and the ergonomics if it, combined with the Fanatec shifter or other gear etc. ... About the product though: Those screw holes into the cast aluminium for the cover seems like a design oversight :( (especially as you do need to get under there occasionally for adjustments) Will be very interesting to see if others have issues!! Also, I dont like the way the brake lever is attached to the base: those three "notches" on the arm where you pick the angle of the lever looks pretty small and fragile! It seems the brake arm is cast aluminium aswell, so not particularly tough material... There's quite a bit of leverage there I think... Will it really hold up under extreme force? Couldn't they have been made with more material with proper through-holes instead? Also this a fair bit more expensive than the old one! I really want to have a clean setup with everything connected through the wheel base, and I believe Fanatec own gear gives the best mounting options for me, but this review showed a bit too many issues in the new handbrake for it do be a done deal. Will have to think about it...
Exactly what i thought. Looks too flimsy for 200 Bucks. Bearings are going to wear out. The mechanism has too many Screws that can losen over time…. Looks overengineered. I bought the Simlab XB-1 instead. Got it for 175 while BF
Hi Will. Thanks for another in depth review of SIM racing gear. I'm in the market to buy some pedals and would like to know what top 3 pedals would you recommend to look at? I would love to buy the Simucube active pedals, but obviously way too expensive. Excluding the active pedals, what 3 would you recommend? Cheers! Dan
Even as a Fanatec base owner, selling the USB adapter seperate is a no-go for me, I'd rather get the SimLab Handbrake instead since it costs the same, looks subjectively better and doesn't rely on other Fanatec gear. They should've done the same they do with the pedals, make the RJ connector standard and just provide an additional USB option without any additional cost.
Turtle beach has an interesting shifter i think doubles as a handbrake nobody reviewed yet u guys should check it out. Also the t598 has a firmware update the oscillating issues are just about gone now i remember u said u were going to give that one to ur kid if it didnt oscilate like that in the menus
I purchased V1.5 about a month ago, probably should have waited. But I got V1.5 mounted to shifter by drilling additional holes as standard mounting holes just didn't work for me ergonomically. And seeing how V2 side panel is not flat I can imagine this being a problem for my case.
This handbrake is the only Fanatec gear I want to get, primarily because it can be mounted flat & pulled upward like in a real car which is what I want
@@cobratuner Just checked it out, didn't know that Simagic made one as well. Comparing both, I think I like the Simagic one more as it seems to be more adjustable but the price difference isn't really all that big... only $10 when looking at their respective sites. Having looked more, I also found the Moza handbrake at almost half the price of those two & it can also be "flat" like how I want, but with it on me future rig, I would have too many Moza accessories lol
the holes do line-up with the holes on mine, but i have a question when attaching it to the shifter v1.5. Do i have to take off the bottom plate to be able to insert the nuts yo attach the plastic piece, otherwise i can`t see how to mount it? help would be much appreciated
I have bought a Fanatec formula wheel which has a qr2 preinstalled. Can i still change the qr2 with the qr1? Do I have to change something about the spacers?
Will this mean that the regular loadcell handbrakes (aliexpress, etc) will work with fanatec wheelbases? It would seem like it if the load sensing technology is the same but maybe they are doing something behind the scenes (where the RJ12 port is) to convert the signal or something like that. Could you try testing and see if the input signal from the fanatec shifter is the same as the aliexpress/ebay ones?
I noticed your handbrake lever moves a significant amount. Mine does not. I’ve adjusted all the setting and I still can get it to even move slightly like yours
How does it feel tho? Twords a real life handbrake. Does it progressively get more resistance like a real car. As the 1.5 did not it feels same start to finish if u get me.
@@boostedmediaok but the 1.5 felt same all r way through no change in resistance the further u went. Sorry thats what I ment. Does this do similar. U know what a normal handbrake feels like. Thanks in advance.
Literally anything they put out would've been better than the v1.5. When I initially got mine it broke immediately on my first go. I let it go and every internal piece disconnected. I then put everything back together backwards and using Loctite, it hasn't come apart again but on occasion it will stay activated after it returns to it's original place (no amount of calibrating deadzones stops this). I'll report back when my 2.0 comes.
I think a knurled knob you could operate with your fingers would have been a better option. Using an Allan key in the holes isn’t really any less clumsy IMO. Realistically it’s not something people are likely to adjust often though.
I have alot of issues with my fanatec handbrake the wonky 3.5 headphone jack to rj45 cable is impossible to find and the one it included the 3.5 jack bit bent a little and now it only works when bent a certain way, like an old cell phone charger. Its a pain in the ass. My thrustmaster rig has the sparco one i like that alot better never had a problem. But seeing how rally is my favorite i think im gonna go for this one when it comes out, this way my main rig with the fanatec always has a functional handbrake.
Even after Black Friday 2023 I still believed in Fanatec , but after this Black Friday I’m putting everything on marketplace, how can they announce that shifter gonna be on sale and than cancel that sale couple hours after that sale begins, I was already at checkout page when price when back to original price
Why is it every time you show something it cuts to the other camera zoomed in on exactly what you don't need to see? Pretty sure last I checked the USB adapter is an extra $20 +shipping/tax
I bought a csl elite as an upgrade from a g923 a few months back and it keep turning off when I hit a curb should I try to find a new one or is it worth upgrading to a dd2 ps4 cos I've found one second hand from a retailer with the f1 wheel for £500
The Black Friday deals page says this will be available on 2nd Dec. Now 1st Dec. Page says shop now, but it looks like it is already sold out in Europe. I’m not happy.
@@TheAnimal-Martinez I'm a total rally noob and wheel/handbrake is absolutely not what slows me down (but I do like nice things), but it was a substantial difference in rigidity and overall feel when I upgraded to QR2. Fanatec had great deals last BlackFriday on QR2 Base-Side. Took a while to get QR2 wheel-side (non-pro) in stock though. Rally was the only game mode where I was not happy with QR1. Podium Button Module Rally has illumination (I play with lights off) and rotary switches feel amazing. I wish all their products had them. The only thing I miss is rev indicator. Podium Button Module Endurance has better layout and more information but it's bigger in size and not "true rally" i guess :D Replacement buttons are somewhat limited in design and a bit fiddly to replace. One key difference between original Sparco and Replica (a part from FIA homologation that 99.9% don't care about) is the material used. Original is using suede which is good if you play with or without gloves. Replica is using Alcantara so you HAVE to use gloves. I always use gloves so for me it's not an issue. I have also Porsche 911 GT3 R V2 in suede and it look really used even after moderate usage even when using gloves. So rim probably won't stay pretty anyways. Price difference was almost 150€ between original and replica so I opted for 150€ discount instead of "true racing wheel" :) Happy holidays to you as well!
Being proprietary in 2024 is INSANE. How can a sim company not release something new that not some type of USB? No wonder they had to be saved from completely closing down.
@boostedmedia thanks for reply..i have diffirent brand sequential shifter so atm i have old fanatec handbrake and that old table attach. So mayby it fit but i need to find out that somewhere to be sure..
@boostedmedia for mounting the handbrake to the shifter, does it already come with the bolts to do this? If not, do you know what size bolts please? Thanks
it sucks there is no option for a table cable only way to mount to a table is if u have the shifter with old one u atleast didnt the shifter to mount to a table u could use the shift clamp and the rails they had on there site
You probably don't want to be using a load cell handbrake on a table anyway. Requires too much force. Would likely be a flex fest unless you had some serious mounting hardware.
does it really even matter i have seen people use cheap ebay aliexpress ones does a loadcell really matter. i see so many handbrake at 200 to 400 and i just think its insane
What about those who just bought the 1.5v because of their black Friday sale? 😂 Edit: and the link in the description doesn't take me to the new handbrake and can't find it on their site yet at all
let me tell you something from perspective of a noob looking to buy first srious wheel :.Obviously- considering the reviews on all websites - you focus on a couple of brands . More specifically you focus on brands which offer all-in-one bundles on the cheap . This leads to Fanatec among other brands ( Moza being the prime alternative ) . However : when visiting the Fanatec site you are greeted with "sold out " for EVERYTHING . " No worries " you think ... I'll look at retail stores .Then you find out there are NONE . This is the reality of the way things are ... I will let you guess which brand people will choose when looking for a bundle to put under the christmas tree for their kids : the brand with NO stock and no retail options or Moza which has stock and which IS available at retail websites No matter how good your products are : if people have to choose between what's available and what isn't .. they will always choose the available product ( especially if quality difference is marginal ...even close to absent ) .
A hand brake?? I guess there strategy is to make something most people dont need and then maybe they will be able to ship them in a reasonable time frame.
@@christopherlees3684 Don't have any but tried to order some last year around this time and lucky for me there website wasn't even able to take the order because it was after that that I found out about all of there problems. Probably would have waited months and not be in sim racing today had that been my first experience with ordering higher end equipment.
So you think Corsair just bought Fanatec and now lets it die? I really dont thinks so, Corsairs CEO seemed very sharp man when Boosted Media interviewed him.
@andylee2174 I've had my own issues with Fanatec on the service side, but it's not a dying company. As a property, it's super valuable to Corsair. I'm excited to see what they do. Corsair already stepped in and totally fixed a really bad service issue for me in the last two weeks. That would have never happened before.
@Romad_20 Dying in terms of the market share and following they've had in the sim racing space for years. The acquisition and hiving off of parts of endor is the first sign. Corsair isn't a slouch in the PC space but isn't a top performer as it once was in the early 2000s-early 2020. Just in 4 years it's dropped market cap by 3B. This just shows more of the safe and uninteresting business/product decisions that won't help the continued slide.
Turns out the optional extra Fanatec v3 pedal tuning kit white elastomer fits perfectly onto the v1.5 handbrake (inside the spring) once you drill a hole down the middle. Managed to search it up and added it to cart in the US...at $329.95!! I'm seeing Australian currency...Probably not live here yet.
Yeah that’s Australian dollars. It won’t ship outside Australia from that region selection. It should be live in the US and Europe in about 7 hours
How does it feel tho? Twords a real life handbrake. Does it progressively get more resistance like a real car. As the 1.5 did not it feels same start to finish if u get me.
I’ve not driven a drift or rally car or done any of that style of driving in real life, so not appropriate for me to comment.
@@boostedmediaok but the 1.5 felt same all r way through no change in resistance the further u went. Sorry thats what I ment. Does this do similar. U know what a normal handbrake feels like. Thanks in advance.
Are the Moza Haptic Reactors video coming soon?
Unfortunate I couldn't bundle it with the shifter sale, I'm not paying shipping twice. Damn you Corsair lol
Actually, shipping two items is more expensive than shipping one item anyway. So you wouldn't have saved a "full" shipping cost anyway
Hey Will, and what if you use the included hex tool instead of the spanner to operate the preload nut?I bet it will be less "clumsy" to operate😅
Curious to why you would need a loadcell in a handbrake, could someone explain it to me?
He will love the videos but I have one question, what is the best handbrake in your opinion?
Even after Black Friday 2023 I still believed in Fanatec , but after this Black Friday I’m putting everything on marketplace, how can they announce that shifter gonna be on sale and than cancel that sale couple hours after that sale begins, I was already at checkout page when price when back to original price
Hello and Thanks for your videos. I would like to know where you got the short(Fanatec) shifter rod. Thanks for your help and Keep SimRacing
We did a review of it years ago. No longer available.
Why is it every time you show something it cuts to the other camera zoomed in on exactly what you don't need to see?
Pretty sure last I checked the USB adapter is an extra $20 +shipping/tax
Was waiting for GSI Hyper P1 review so I could decide which F1 wheel to buy this Black Friday.... but I guess there's no point waiting for it anymore.
We'll get to it ASAP. Impossible to cover everything all at once I'm afraid.
Damn my whole setup is fanatec but I got a simlab handbrake already. too bad, it does look cool.
The sim lab handbrakes look really good too.
This hasn’t been released in the US or EU yet. Only AU and JP. Expecting it to release in about 12 hours from the time I’m writing this comment.
@@boostedmediaMany thanks. Will check it later.
Simple design, easy made, well over priced. = perfect for a FOMO world
Hows the sparco rally wheel?
I reviewed that a while back :)
@boostedmedia ok ill go check it out! Thank you!
Get a Sparco replica one. Feels the same but half the price.
@pilkjaer ok, thanks. Im waiting till they get the QR1 back in stock
As im still on the original parts to connect the wheels
And happy holidays!
Price difference was almost 150€ between original and replica so I opted for 150€ discount instead of "true racing wheel" :)
Happy holidays to you as well!
My new clubsport handbrake v2 will not even move does anyone know why
Being proprietary in 2024 is INSANE. How can a sim company not release something new that not some type of USB? No wonder they had to be saved from completely closing down.
Did i miss something but do this fit whit fanatec old table attach. Thanks for the honestly review buddy
It attaches to the side of the shifter in the same way as the old one so should do. I don’t have the table clamp so can’t test.
@boostedmedia thanks for reply..i have diffirent brand sequential shifter so atm i have old fanatec handbrake and that old table attach. So mayby it fit but i need to find out that somewhere to be sure..
@@BRANDON.MUSTANG from the demetions i read on the aus site and olso say only mouting option for table is with it to ne atched to shifter it self
@boostedmedia for mounting the handbrake to the shifter, does it already come with the bolts to do this? If not, do you know what size bolts please? Thanks
@HardEvents420 thanks for reply
it sucks there is no option for a table cable only way to mount to a table is if u have the shifter with old one u atleast didnt the shifter to mount to a table u could use the shift clamp and the rails they had on there site
You probably don't want to be using a load cell handbrake on a table anyway. Requires too much force. Would likely be a flex fest unless you had some serious mounting hardware.
@@boostedmedia my desk is pretty beefy its 2ich solid hard wood on metal stand
The holes on mine don’t align either 😮
does it really even matter i have seen people use cheap ebay aliexpress ones does a loadcell really matter. i see so many handbrake at 200 to 400 and i just think its insane
Discussed this in the video
Waiting for the best sim racing gear of 2024 video 🎉
No added usb is annoying. I do have a clubsport adapter already, but still. Id like to not need more of them 😂
Definitely debating today between just grabbing the previous version now for $70, and delaying a potential upgrade for at least a couple of years.
Hopefully the video helps you decide. The 1.5 has reliability issues. But if you just need something to pull to initiate a slide, it’s probably fine.
No. Don’t get the v1.5. It’s horrible engineered. I regretted buying it the moment I opened the box and trying it. Not even worth the $70 sale price.
Release is tomorrow
THANK YOU
I purchased two v1.5 last year and they were terribly designed and horrible to set up. This new one looks to be a way better design.
£240 for this handbrake to use as stand alone, £167 for the Simlab loadcell handbrake, no need to even think about it.
Does that mean that you can't adjust the angle of the lever if you mount if directly to the shifter??
my goodness can you talk any faster the words all seemed to run together lol i thought i had accidentally turned on x1.5 playback lmao
It shows 300 plus on their site
Youre looking at the AU price. It hasn't been launched in EU and US yet.
@boostedmedia thx for clearing that up lol
@boostedmedia well when your done testing it I'll take lol I'm still running the fanatec csl elite wheel and pedals with the shifter and handbrake
What about those who just bought the 1.5v because of their black Friday sale? 😂
Edit: and the link in the description doesn't take me to the new handbrake and can't find it on their site yet at all
Its not out in EU and US. The handbrake was also announced to be released at the same time the v1.5 was discounted
@ yeah, I knew it was coming out, just joking around but I didn’t know it wasn’t here yet though thanks
Ooof that rowing machine needs a brake too 😂😂😊❤
Or just order the aiologs hand brake for $180.
let me tell you something from perspective of a noob looking to buy first srious wheel :.Obviously- considering the reviews on all websites - you focus on a couple of brands . I will let you guess which brand people will choose when looking for a bundle to put under the christmas tree for their kids : the brand with NO stock and no retail options or Moza which has stock and which IS available at retail websites
No matter how good your products are : if people have to choose between what's available and what isn't .. they will always choose the available product ( especially if quality difference is marginal ...even close to absent ) .
Bestellt.
i think it's just too much for what it is.
Doesn't want to do the usual 50 minute video, so talks twice as fast.
crist that is just horrible fast talk i'm out
210€ Handbrake? uh
Have you seen some of the boutique offerings? Even Simagic has one that’s was pretty expensive.
Yeah but that's hydraulic.. I don't really see why one would get this and not the moza one
Hence my recommendation to look at other options if you’re on PC and have the freedom of choice.
@@pinksunsets3079 Moza doesn't work on console
Which option if I'm on pc please ? The simlab ? @@boostedmedia
A hand brake?? I guess there strategy is to make something most people dont need and then maybe they will be able to ship them in a reasonable time frame.
Probably was in development well before the take over and likely even before the ex CEOs issues
How many Fanatec products do you have, and how many do you plan on buying in future
@@christopherlees3684 Don't have any but tried to order some last year around this time and lucky for me there website wasn't even able to take the order because it was after that that I found out about all of there problems. Probably would have waited months and not be in sim racing today had that been my first experience with ordering higher end equipment.
Lame attempt from a dying company.
Dying from what?
So you think Corsair just bought Fanatec and now lets it die? I really dont thinks so, Corsairs CEO seemed very sharp man when Boosted Media interviewed him.
@andylee2174 I've had my own issues with Fanatec on the service side, but it's not a dying company. As a property, it's super valuable to Corsair. I'm excited to see what they do. Corsair already stepped in and totally fixed a really bad service issue for me in the last two weeks. That would have never happened before.
@@Romad_20I was questoning the OP not you. I have heard Corsair is very quickly making things better.
