    I wanted to understand if the setup can be suitable to my home network.. After watching your great video, I understood that it fits right into what I needed AND thanks for the tips about the RJ45s, it saved me the grief of receiving the AP and not being able to install it. 3 hours after watching your video, it was setup in my apartment and working beautifully. Thank you mate!

    This was helpful, thanks for posting it. Couple of things as of 3/12/22... I added a new Pro AP to our RV345 Cisco router.
    When you start the Unifi Network app on an iPad, click on Set Up a New Device, it will look for a console first and eventually come back with "No Console Found". Just click the "Other Setup Options" close to the bottom. On the next page click Standalone UniFi Access Point" and you'll be where you can add the AP with the QR code and it finishes. If you are using your existing Wifi network, you just put in the existing name and password.
    We have 1gb fiber running into our building. I was getting 20-30mb with my Open Mesh AP. At the same location in the building after I added the Pro AP I was getting 250mb on download, 300mb on upload. Nice. We're going to phase them in and at some point totally switch over to Unifi to replace all our Open Mesh.
    I need to investigate coverage on the new unit, I was outside of the room the Pro AP was in, through a couple of walls and doors it wasn't picking it up, but that room has ciderblock on some walls, so we'll see. So far it's a nice fast reasonably priced AP replacement.

And the app I had downloaded from scanning the code on the box was the wrong app. Lost you when you were talking about PC setup and what you were doing...connecting with my phone with the app and doing the setup by scanning the barcode on the back of the device did it and it's all working fantastic. I still have no idea what the local controller or remote controllers are all about. Makes no sense to me - just want access point why do I need a controller and what's a controller for anyways? So confusing. Anyways thanks brother for solving this for me!!!! It was massive blessing to me.

    do you find it helpful when using this approach to give each AP a static address in the main router? seems like on networks with smaller ip allotment there would be a higher chance of running out of addresses. or the router trying to give duplicate addresses to different devices on less managed networks.

    • @AJaytheCEO
      @AJaytheCEO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It shouldn't as the aps are not assigning ip address they are just funneling the clients to the main router so if one device received an ip address, the router would show a license is used and would not overlap addresses, whether the APs are fixed or via dhcp.

    Thank you for this, this is a great tutorial. Just one question - if I'm going to be using two separate access points with an existing router, how do I get them all on the same network? Is it just a case of typing in the SSID and the password for the router as you did into the AP, for both of them? Also, if one access point is going to be in the same room as the router, would it be best to connect them via ethernet? I just want to make sure it is just one WiFi connection and doesn't overlap. Thank you again

    • @AJaytheCEO

The only thing you will be missing if you do not run it is statistics, like who connected to the network, when they got connected, disconnected and so on.

    I know this is an old video, so I apologize if you've already answered this in the comments sections or in another video.
    My current modem/router hybrid has been giving me issues. I'm planning on buying a modem and a tri-band router, both with 2.5GB ethernet ports. I'm planning on separating the router's SSIDs/Bands into separate networks so that the router doesn't "Smart Steer."
    According to this video, if I buy like 2 Unifi Access Points, I'll need to link the 1st AP to the router via an ethernet cable, follow the other steps you gave, then I can connect the 2nd AP to the 1st AP via Wi-fi?
    Will all of this work even if I want to separate the SSIDs, or would I need to designate the APs and the router to have a certain SSID? For example, could/should I make my tri-band router in this case be in charge of a 5GHz network, then the 1st AP be in charge of the other 5GHz network, then the 2nd AP be in charge of the 2.4GHz network?
    All of this is just so confusing to me.

    • @AJaytheCEO
      @AJaytheCEO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could do it either way. In the Unifi software you can set one AP to be the uplink for another AP and then also assign specific SSIDs to only be used on a given AP

    I've just installed a Ubiqiti Unifi WiFi 6 Lite WAP in my home network. At first I tried going straight from the ISP modem to my PoE 8 port switch and plugged the WAP into the switch. It would not detect the WAP at all in the UniFi networks app. I then tried going from the ISP modem, to my Netgear router (which I was using previously for WiFi) to the switch, and then plugging the WAP into the switch. It was detected straight away, however I was hoping to eliminate the Netgear router and have 2 of the UniFi WAP points to cover my whole house/garage.
    Do you know why it would not work when I eliminated the router? I guess it's not the end of the world if I have to use the router, I'd just like to know why that is the case. And also if I do have to use the router for the WAPs to work, is it just a matter of naming the 2 WAPs the same SSID and password as the router?
    Thanks from Australia

    Thank you very much. I just bought a UAP-AC-LR and spent a lot of time trying to get it to work, until I found your video. After that, it went very smoothly. Just one word of advice: You should turn down the background music (or preferably, shut it out completely). As you are a rather soft-spoken guy, I found it very distracting and sometimes even drowning out what you were saying.
