It would be so awesome if you could do a ballistics gelatin test with this flare-gun with flares and with the insert, i think a "flare gun ballistics gel test" video with a picture of a burning flare stuck in the gel would make a lot of views ! Please like this comment if you think that's a good idea so that they can see this !
God I miss Barry... He made me subscribe to this show back when it barely had 50k subscribers. He always had some interesting story to tell, he was the "wise old gun guy", rest in peace. *As an aside*, I'm pretty sure Barry worked on the MAC-10 or 11 at Cobray or Military Arms Corporation, he talked about it in a very old video, anybody has more information on that ?
Excellent video. I'm subbed. ;) Here in the UK you need a firearms licence to even own a flare gun, while loads of automatic fire weaponry sits in the hands of criminals and gangs. Thats why its so important for you guys to protect your gun laws at all costs.
lol we figured out how to do this around 6th 7th grade but we mad them from glued washers. only ever shot 22s @ and there was no acuracy, but at 12 when you got a gun, it dosent even matter
you probably dont care at all but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Khalid Frank I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Finally found a video of someone using the flare gun and insert. other videos they just keep it on the table and talk about it for 20min. thanks these are pretty cool. they seem to handle the bullet pressure fine.
My father told me that when he was in the Marines in WW2 that he and some of his buddies had flare guns on them with a shotgun shell loaded. This was their foxhole hole gun at night just in case somebody snuck up next to them. Great vid as always!
I remember an old oppo of mine telling me about Very pistol packed with all sorte of nasty sharp stuff being used in the jungle at night , they were british marines in south east asia way back in the 60s.They repelled a regiment of goons after the burmese regular troops abandoned their position, a platoon of british commandos in a prepared position is a very dangerous place to attack, any which way.
Reminds me of the liberator pistol, the original gun to get a gun. Interestingly enough, they were named FP45 for "Flare Projector, .45 caliber" to throw off spies from understanding it's true purpose.
Thinking about one for bug out bag. Nice that you can shot 38-.22- 45/410 three calibers in one gun, I'm sure in time they will make other calibers over time !!
.45ACP is rimless, so you have an issue using something like this, as the round can be pushed you could use a modded half-moon clip to hold it at the extraction lip on the cartridge and that would allow you to use them.
I just want to say a flare gun IS a firearm. It expels a projectile by explosive means from a barrel. This can be really handy for flying with checked bags you want to lock up with heady duty, non TSA, locks. It may not require a background check or paperwork but it is still a firearm.
God bless your channel!!! I want to thank you guys so much for giving all of us this information. I'm an American living in South Africa where there are no 2nd Amendment rights to own fire arms. This would be a great way for me to be able to defend my family, and for only 39 bucks.... it could be a life saver! Now, I just need to get my hands on one....lol.
I live in New York we sort of have the same rules here if you’re a lowlife you just steal a gun and shoot people but if you’re a law abiding citizen they make it harder for you to live in peace. You can’t even buy Mace here in New York state.🤔. 🤪👍🏻✨✌🏻
@Exo594 no, they would be just .45 LC pistols that just so happen that you can shoot shots helps out of them but its not the intended purpose, it just works
Number 4 shot is used here, generally as steel shot for Duck Hunting, Even though #2 is preferred. Winchester makes 1550 FPS steel shot in #4 as well. 3" 12G. Yes, it is buck shot at its smallest size, but reasonably, it is used for large birds and pests.
i m pretty sure its the same case as the Taurus judge and the Smith and Wesson governor which are revolvers that are chambered in .45 and also fire the .410. So basically its designated a normal handgun instead of a shotgun because of the rifling for the .45
I wouldn't plan on EVER using this for self defense. But, since the guys at Moss Pawn are doing the video series, I figured I would add another item to the investigation. I would recommend never shooting a flare inside your house, even in self defense, unless you enjoy watching all of your earthly possessions go up in flames. Those things burn REALLY hot.
its more for people who live in places where firearms are banned. If the background takes a month somewhere, you can get one of these for the side of your bed, and honestly, as we've been saying for everything, something is better than nothing. :)
I have a friend that flies when he travels, and he travels a lot. First thing he does when he gets to a new city is purchase a flare. Great protection, no permits required, and they're cheap. Even the pencil flares are good for close range. IMHO
If you do a quick search for the .45LC/410ga adapter that they are using, the description says it is a rifled adapter. So essentially they just turned the flare gun into a sightless single-shot Judge. Because the Judge can fire the 410 shotgun shell and it is considered a normal handgun because the barrel is rifled. If you were to find an adapter for a larger shell, I think as long as it is rifled it would be a pistol, but just my guess.
I own one of the 12 ga flare guns because I used to take my boat out on Lake Huron so I wondered about them because of some Hollywood movies' special effects and lighting up a perp from the inside. Clothing and a resilient human body are not the same as a brittle board. Gel test through say a coat to simulate real a scenario? I don't want to be "burning down the house" as the song goes if the flare would just bounce off.
I was an armourer in the RAF a (large) number of years ago and we had a young female officer killed when someone accidentally shot her in the stomach with a 1.5 inch Webley Flare Gun. These babies are lethal at close ranges. I've never seen one fired with an insert though so that was interesting.
thats a really good point man! i guess one could say "i have this to signal the cops... i just forgot which direction to point it"! i would think getting shot with a flare gun would SUCK! the gun grabbers will NEVER win!!
also the orion flare guns which i used to play with as a kid in my grandfathers boat shop they will chamber a 12 gauge shell. but luckly i had the sense to NOT put the two together maybe you guys could do a vid of the orion and a 12 g shell. to show why they would be a match thanks again guys
Did you see the video BCTRUCK did where he made a home made 410 shotgun? He made 4 videos only 3&4 are needed to watch 1&2 are LTI. I don't remember what it cost him but it was under $10.
.45ACP is Rimelss. Check the specifications of the .45ACP you will see it reads Case type: Rimless Straight. You may be referring to .45 Auto Rimmed. Not the same round at all. The insert would have to be specifically headspaced for .45ACP and you would have to use a rod to extract the cartridge. Again, use of a modified half moon clip would negate this. BTW, rimmed refers to a smooth sided case with a rim protruding from the bottom edge, like a .303 casing, unlike the .308 which is rimless.
I love my Orion flare gun, but I would like it better if I could put flash bang rounds in it. And for self defense, I have yet to meet the person who would stand their ground at the prospect of being set on fire.
I doubt I'm the first to suggest this, but in the part 3 of flare guns for defense you guys should fire a flare into some ballistics jell to show just how much those suckers would hurt. Just imagine those things burning once they're in your flesh...
They're really common in Army Surplus stores and can be obtained for pretty reasonable prices. I'm assuming he just picked one up for functionality, since they have really good-sized pockets, they're breathable, and they're warm enough for just about any kind of cold weather in Georgia.
He said it was not a fire arm when it wasn't loaded with the modifyed shotgun shells as soon as he loaded it with the bullets it became a fire arm so u were right Jessie but since he used those shells it became one
Thanks for explaining that. It's good it comes with a letter, if it didn't I'm sure some overzealous ATF would try to find some reason why they think it should be illegal.
Probably not because the flare gun is manufactured short and not hacked down. Ever heard of Serbu Super Shorty? Look it up. They manufacture Mossberg 500s and Remington 870s with like 13 inch barrels.
normal shot shells will not fit in them. You have to either modify the flare gun to accept them, or use the mini shells. Either way, it sounds like you know what happens already. Fun as long as you shot it remotely, haha.
Because their manufacturer assembles them from Mossberg/Remington parts, stamps them with his own brand, and registers them as AOWs. If you cut down your pump-action into a super shorty, this would fall under the unlawful production of a short barrel shotgun.
you guys should try to make your own insert, ive been wanting a flare pistol for that project for some time now cant wait to see you put the sights on it
I wonder what the importation laws are on this flare gun and insert, shipped separate of course. A flare gun can be imported without a license, provided the importer uses it for what it was designed for, lol. But I wonder what the insert is classified as In Canada?
Ten years late but can you get the 12 gauge insert to shoot flares without a licence ? I have all metal one like that think it's bulgerian and an Orion . I wouldn't be confident shooting a 12 gauge slug through a plastic gun .
Good point, I wasn't thinking about the Judge or the Governor by S&W. It just seems absurd that if you cut a .410 shotgun to under 18" it would be illegal but this is legal. In my opinion they all should be legal. I guess I'm just trying to make sense of senseless laws.
Just for curiosities sake i would love to see you guys attach some form of sights to the Geco and see if you can get decent accuracy with the insert at like 50 yards.
Nice demonstration of the versatility of a flare gun. I would definitely keep a one on any boat I owned, but for all other applications I'd rather have a 12ga with a couple flare shells in the stock. And a Glock is a much better concealed carry option. Semper Fi
How did you shoot a 3 inch Magnum buckshot out of it. I didn't know you could shoot 12 GA bullet out of it and wouldn't that have broken your wrist a 12 GA bullet out of a hand gun.. but when you pull the empty cartridge out it looks like a 410shell.. can you shoot 12 or 20ga bullets out of ir
I think you guys should make a series of videos about the history of different guns, cartridges, gear. kind of like how you did in some of the original firearms facts such as the 7.62x54r video
if i had this flare gun, a sub caliber device, and a .410 shell in my backpack but dismantled and in seperate containers, can i carry this on hikes as a last resort survival option? i live in massachusetts
What if you’re not interested in CARRYING the loaded flare gun, but keeping it in your home for self-defense. If you shoot an intruder, can you be charged with possession of an illegal firearm?
great vid guys a buddy of mine has the same setup with both the .22 and .45/410 inserts its fun to shoot in its own right but a bit expensive but on another note ill be traveling down from VA before march for a outboard engine course . thats not to far from you guys and will drop by. looking forward to meeting ya'll

lol we figured out how to do this around 6th 7th grade but we mad them from glued washers. only ever shot 22s @ and there was no acuracy, but at 12 when you got a gun, it dosent even matter
How did you glue the washers? Just all flat together?
"right on target," "boom, got him" - Be my grandpa, please.
you probably dont care at all but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..?

@Will Hayes instablaster ;)
@Khalid Frank I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now.

@Khalid Frank it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
@Will Hayes happy to help =)

Amazing dude that's sick
I miss berry! hes the man!!
Howd he die?
@@joulesjools3211 guessing a gun
Fun Fact: The Germans converted during ww2 many Flare Guns to Grenadelaunchers :D
RIP barry, I hope you do a follow up Erick
Enjoying another epic visit with Barry, March 11, 2018. Best video friend ever, like everyone's Uncle.
It's a good comparison. This flare gun + insert combination actually seems better suited for combat than the original Liberator :)
Yes ,excellent, incase of emergency or a survival situation this would be a game changer,it may save your life, thanks guys
Thanks guys it was awesome video. Thanks for sharing the flare guns defense!!!
Reminds me of the liberator pistol, the original gun to get a gun. Interestingly enough, they were named FP45 for "Flare Projector, .45 caliber" to throw off spies from understanding it's true purpose.

i love it how Barry doesn't fuck around with aiming and just fires as soon as the round is primed
Looks like a great option for camping. Flare gun, snake gun and desperation weapon against predators of the 2 & 4 legged kind.
Marine flares will continue to burn after they hit the ground - and will start a grass fire: first hand experience!
I love these guys.. rip Barry.. when.. I see the light on their faces which means they are good guys
Barry's mannerisms & comments are classic....his mannerisms in their last gun gripe are absolutely hilarous
I didn't think I was gonna like this video but it shows how good these guys are they can make a flare gun video interesting Lol
.45ACP is rimless, so you have an issue using something like this, as the round can be pushed you could use a modded half-moon clip to hold it at the extraction lip on the cartridge and that would allow you to use them.
This, some shot shells, and some bullets, and some flares.. would make agood lil emergency pack in my truck. Well addition to said pack rather.
I just want to say a flare gun IS a firearm. It expels a projectile by explosive means from a barrel. This can be really handy for flying with checked bags you want to lock up with heady duty, non TSA, locks. It may not require a background check or paperwork but it is still a firearm.
Depending on the prices, it could make a fun single shot pistol. I'd get one especially for NY!
You can get these from cheaper than dirt, sportsmansgide and several other online retailers. Moss pawn may also be selling them. It's worth checking.
What will an orion flare gun do to ballistic gel?
I think the 3 inch 5 ball 000 buck is the winner for defense or foraging. Handy as ...well handy.
I miss you Barry!
Boom got em ! that knock the wind out of them ! LOVE IT !!!!

ballistics gel would be super cool, Thanks Barry and Erik! Good vid

I love the way Barry says "Colt"
I love the heartbeat sound effect at 4:28.

A .22, .9mm, 45LC/.410, and a 12 gauge flare adapter inserts are simple to keep in a water proof case with the gun.
also the orion flare guns which i used to play with as a kid in my grandfathers boat shop
they will chamber a 12 gauge shell. but luckly i had the sense to NOT put the two together

this would serve well as a marine or hiking situation signal for help fend off animal attacks
We need guys like you up here in Detroit Michigan
I was about to suggest you actually use the flares to shoot stuff but you did already, well done sirs.
Barry you can never have enough pockets....loved the show
awesome video! your videos are some of the few that i'll actually watch all the way through
I would like to see a comparison of Flare Gun vs Spear Gun for self-defense...
Cool. You guys should do a video showing how to make a fire using a flare gun.
They're really common in Army Surplus stores and can be obtained for pretty reasonable prices. I'm assuming he just picked one up for functionality, since they have really good-sized pockets, they're breathable, and they're warm enough for just about any kind of cold weather in Georgia.
Right in the gut! Boom! Got'em Barry's commentary is awesome! lol
You guys are 'outstanding in your field'...

Barry's got the coolest voice.
I love you guys and your humor
I think that would classify it as a short barreled shotgun and you would be subject to the NFA
I believe it's the " fashion/functionality " thing. Flecktarn is also some pretty effective camouflage.
Ten years late but can you get the 12 gauge insert to shoot flares without a licence ? I have all metal one like that think it's bulgerian and an Orion . I wouldn't be confident shooting a 12 gauge slug through a plastic gun .
Please correct me if I'm wrong... the 410 bore uses #3 buck...not 000 buck.
I reload for my .410 and #3 buck is what fits.
you can get 000 buck in .410, but you'll most likely have to load them "single file".
Good point, I wasn't thinking about the Judge or the Governor by S&W. It just seems absurd that if you cut a .410 shotgun to under 18" it would be illegal but this is legal. In my opinion they all should be legal. I guess I'm just trying to make sense of senseless laws.
standed in the ocean, sees a rabbit swimming on a carrot floaty.... boom, got em!
IIRC its already 12gauge, just with a very short chamber, but I imagine there are better ways to blow off your hand.
Now the question, would that fit in and work with the Orion??? And what is the logic with rifled barrel and legality??
Just for curiosities sake i would love to see you guys attach some form of sights to the Geco and see if you can get decent accuracy with the insert at like 50 yards.
Could you fire .454 casull from this? .44 mag?
Is there an insert for 12 ga?
👍👍 great video. I Learned something new ! Awesome advise and info guys
This is something that needs to be in my bug out bag.
Nice demonstration of the versatility of a flare gun. I would definitely keep a one on any boat I owned, but for all other applications I'd rather have a 12ga with a couple flare shells in the stock. And a Glock is a much better concealed carry option.
Semper Fi
You guys always have something interesting to present!
You're an accomplished man.
How did you shoot a 3 inch Magnum buckshot out of it. I didn't know you could shoot 12 GA bullet out of it and wouldn't that have broken your wrist a 12 GA bullet out of a hand gun.. but when you pull the empty cartridge out it looks like a 410shell.. can you shoot 12 or 20ga bullets out of ir
i wanna see the effect of a flare on some ballistics gel now THAT would be awesome
i love barry's comments after eric shoots
You should get the 20 gauge insert and make up some waxers for it.
If you shoot an intruder, can you be charged with possession of an illegal firearm?
great vid guys a buddy of mine has the same setup with both the .22 and .45/410 inserts
its fun to shoot in its own right but a bit expensive
but on another note ill be traveling down from VA before march for a outboard engine course .
thats not to far from you guys and will drop by.
looking forward to meeting ya'll
Just a thought, would loading the weapon with a shotgun shell violate the ruling of US vs Miller being that it technically would qualify as a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches?
Nope, because there is no shoulder stock. It would be classified as "any other weapon" just like the mossberg Shockwave for example.
Eric, did you and Barry ever check out the Kennesaw Cannon 12 insert, and use the 2 1/2 mini shells in the 26.5 mm flare gun?
The famous last words "watch this" lol love it
