There's some people that probably would like the Mexican firing squad there's a video of them shooting someone like 10 times and one of the people dont die he did finish off but how shit of a shot can you get it most likely hit no arteries or vital organs
Many years ago when I was a teenager I was shot in the torso with one of these orange 12ga flares and it bounced off me and caused zero harm, not even a light bruise nor a burn mark was present. The distance was no more than ten feet. I was prepping my boat and a neighborhood kid picked up the orange flare gun thinking it was a toy. It was only loaded as I test the gun each spring when I launch my boat. Good lesson that day was learned. I wasn't happy about being shot, but it was still a good lesson. One that served me well as a civilian and active duty in the service. PS, The Orion 12ga Flare-Gun in this video had a longer overall length cartridge than the one I was shot with. Perhaps now they have a larger primer and propellant in slightly larger rubes than the Orion flare-guns that the one I was shot with. I surely wouldn't want to get shot with a 37mm flare. PSS, The kid that shot me is now a very good friend, go figure... was his best man at his wedding, but I do know that when he visits, my side-arms and long guns are kept in my gun vault, as he nor anyone else will ever shoot me with my own gun, intentional or not. :)
I've been shot with one before... It melted a hole through my leg to the bone. 3 degree burn bigger than my hand all the way down. 4th degree burn on the bone. 2 weeks and 2 days in the hospital.
Matthew Keith I remained conscious the entire time. After about 15 minutes of debating the pros and cons of going to the hospital got a friend to drive me there and walked in under my own power, managing to minimize limping. As well as turned down pain killers (they violate policy) I did finally cave and took some. But less than a quarter of what they wanted me to take... What was more painful was them scrubbing my leg. The thing to remember is water can't put it out and will react violently to the flare. Your only option is to wait for it to go out on its own. They thought I was crazy when I said I'd rather have that happen a hundred time to me than once to a horse or deer. I love horses and deer.
COVYN I was sitting on my bed and snap loaded it (where closing the chamber and cocking the hammer is done as one motion) but the hammer slipped half way back and went forward setting the round off. Because of the very low velocity it dropped immediately and went into my leg even though it was pointed well above my leg.
There is actually a documented case during WWII where a finnish soldier killed with a flare gun a russian soldier that had entered their bunker but in the dark went past him exposing his back.
I had no idea these crappy little Orion flare guns could be so useful. I had one on my boat for years and never fired it. Might even be an effective predator deterrent if you don't mind burning the forest down.
Since flare inserts for .22lr and other calibers are banned in Slovenia i made by myself .22lr adapter for 26,5mm flare gun from aluminium pipe and real barrel from .22lr Beretta. Works excellent!
I used to keep one of those around for non lethal self defence. I used low brass shells repacked with rock salt, which are more than light enough to be flare gun safe, and will ruin your day, if shot in your face.
A little over 40 years ago I used to have to deliver loads to New York. Trucking is great, see America, the ass end of each town, at 3 am. None of us would ever stop for lights, but depending, sometimes we'd roll through them a little slower such at 15 mph. The reason being they'd hop on your stairs or hitch a ride on the rear cow catcher. Rob you, sometimes hijack the load. Some guys carry everywhere they go, but those are the states where it's legal. Get caught with a weapon after crossing into a state where it's illegal. and you can get busted and worse, lose your expensive ride Anyhow, I was one that used to have to go through idiot states. So I used to carry my little steel shafted tire thumper, of course we have big ass ballpean hammers, crowbars, machetes. But some carry a flare gun. You get a jacked up monkey standing on your stairs with his pea shooter at 90 degrees and, and point the flair gun in his face. He either disappears quick or you can count his fillings using the light in his mouth. It's great for defence and legal in all 50 too.
The 12 gauge flares are quite weak. My company, Patel Ballistics Corporation, manufactures brand new, all Stainless-Steel 26.5/25mm flare guns on our website. If anybody is interested, please look us up! (Sorry in advance for the self-promo, just trying to get our product out there!)
I just got into the world of military flare guns with my new Czech surplus VZ44 in 26.5mm. It's an absolute beast of a launcher, weighing over 2 pounds of solid steel! A friend of mine is helping me acquire a .45LC/.410 insert, further expanding it's usability. I'm getting ready for a camping trip next week after my flare shipment arrives and I'm happy I found this video.
In TF2, the flare only touches the skin and causes aflame to whomever he hits, while the real life flare gun can penetrate unarmored flesh and burn from the INSIDE, which seems much more hurtful. Pyro's weapons can be explained however, the standard can be explosive based, setting fire to whoever it hits, and the crit mechanic can be be sort of explained by going through the burning and exposed flesh and exploding from the inside!
Also a very good demonstration of why a flare gun, like any other firearm, should always be handled safely and pointed in a safe direction when firing.

these older videos were truly great, before they gave a damn and were just out having as much fun as possible. They new stuff is great too, in a more ,"by the book" way.
I've been shot point blank with one of those newer 12 gauge orion flare guns near point blank in the back. It did not penetrate it felt about what it feels like to be shot with a paintball gun and left a very similar mark. It did not burn me though, they take a second or so to fully ignite
Logan Barnette and flair guns would make a horrible self defense, you would be better off with your fists or a fucking spoon.. there has been no reports of a death from a direct blow to a flair gun, only people that died from one was because of a fire it stated... I literally watched someone shoot themselves point blank in the head with a flair gun (a pricey one) and all It did was bounce off his head, threw him back and burnt his hair... they are inaccurate and most of the time if they hit someone they’ll just bounce off... people have fucking flair gun wars in 3rd world countries (for fun, I don’t know why..) all the shit these two idiots say are mostly inappropriate.
Phil J.L Fig well yeah but at very close range it would be hell. If you put an adapter into the 26.5mm to fire say... 12 gauge... Then you have a less horrible defensive firearm but still pretty bad.
Here 10 years later and I appreciate you guys for making this video, this was informational for me bc I’m a new truck driver working at one of these “starter” companies and they say we can’t have guns in the truck. Still gonna carry my 9 for sure but definitely ab to go and buy a flare gun for first line of defense bc they didn’t say that we couldn’t have those 😂
In TF2, the flare only touches the skin and causes aflame to whomever he hits, while the real life flare gun can penetrate unarmored flesh and burn from the INSIDE, which seems much more hurtful. Pyro's weapons can be explained however, the standard can be explosive based, setting fire to whoever it hits, and the crit mechanic can be be sort of explained by going through the burning and exposed flesh and exploding from the inside!
It's basically when the projectile turns on it's side or on end while penetrating the target instead of flying straight through like a normal bullet would. Notice how the first flares that shot through the door left a pretty symmetrical circle, but the larger 26mm flares they shot left a gaping elongated hole, hence they keyholed.
+TheRealBigPlayas Sorry, but that comment was stupid and self-contradictory. When a gun has low accuracy, that doesn't mean that it ALWAYS misses the target. It means its accuracy is inconsitent.
TheRealBigPlayas Yes, and I suppose you didn't understand what I was referring to. Try reading your comment again, and see if you get it this time. If you still have trouble, let me know and I'll explain.
For the record, using a flare gun as a weapon can be deemed an EXPLOSIVE DEVICE under US federal law, and you don't want to cross that line. They treat it just like a hand grenade at that point, and it's even mentioned in the federal gun laws that flare guns are considered explosive devices when used as a gun instead of a signal device.
solouroboros The Federal Government recommends using flare guns for self defense if you are on a ship and being attacked by pirates whether on national or international waters. In other words, your wrong.
It's describing the motion of the bullet and the bullet hole (which would be the impact wound on a living target, as well as how the bullet travels after entering the target).
I think the Bundeswehr shipped all the surplus to the US for resale. I bought a woodland flecktarn, goretex parka (just the shell, no liner) for $12. I love that thing. It was "lightly" used with only a scuff mark or two on it when I bought it three years ago. It's a very durable windbreaker and somewhat water resistant still.
Back in the '70s, during the war against Commie guerrilla in Argentina, I was the driver for a Lt.Col. that had suffered several assassination attempts. He carried a German flare gun, an 8 bore. He reloaded the empty aluminum cartridges with 2 oz of #1 buck. You cannot imagine the effects of that load on a human body at five yards!
This is my new favorite episode. Flare guns shooting through solid wood doors? OH YEAH! The blue smoke was awesome. I think these may be more lethal than my 380 lol, guess it's time to start packing a fluorescent orange flare gun.
I have used 12 gage black powder shotgun loads in a WW II aera flare pistol that I bought for $40 and then sleved. It worked great for a dual purpose boat weapon. I loaded both 000 and number 8 bird shot under 40 equivalent grains of pyrodex. My main reason for doing this was for making calls of nature when fishing in gravel pit lakes in areas with poisoness snakes.
I'd only do that in an emergency situation though, the length of the barrel will stunt the height that the flare will travel though, and you wouldn't want to keep doing it cause of the heat of the flare might screw up the rifling of your barrel.
Got fireworks, got a mascot, all you're missing is a chopper, some fatigues and paratrooper gear to rent out. ...I think you guys are well on your way to opening a theme park.
You guys are too danged funny. The ORION can give you enough time to find the ball bat to finish Perpy off. This is a 'Killer' video! (Get it? hehehe) Thank you for your service.
TF2 Flare gun: Does damage, instantly lights things on fire before it can actually properly light, does worse damage if JUST set alight, can't penetrate wood. Real flare guns: Not used offensively, acts like a regular bullet before lighting, Does serious pain no matter what, sticks to people, penetrates core doors. Ah, video game logic.
I have always wanted to know with those plastic Orion flare guns, if you made a little tiny tissue paper pouch of say 25-30 .177 caliber BB's and loaded them up in the flare itself, would it have enough power to push those BB's at at least the same velocity as a flare it self? (when chronographed it's around 425 to 450 feet per second for the flare itself) or maybe slightly less? Right now I have a 1 and 1/2 inch by 1 and 1/2 in piece of tissue paper pushed nicely and neatly in the flare and loaded as many of the .177 BB's as I could without making anything too loose or too tight and I trimmed and tucked the tissue over at the end and put a black dot of acrylic paint on the folded wadding so I knew that it had something in i....and to act as a slight breakable adhesive to crack (as regular hobby cheap acrylic paint does) when the BBs leave the cartridge, but before I pull the trigger I would like to get your advice or see if it's something you would like to do as an experiment? And of course would you see any issue with safety in this? I made these about a month ago but have yet to pull the trigger. Any help or any answer would be appreciated! And I love the channel!
This is for all you that think running out and buying gun's before the ban will help.Go read what this bill will do please. •Background check of owner and any transferee; •Type and serial number of the firearm; •Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint; •Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and •Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration
Awesome video guys! You guys are my favorite channel. You should do a video on the effects of exotic 12 gauge ammo, like Bolo rounds, dragon's breath, Terminator X, ect..
Is there any chance on a short video of using the flare guns on ballistic gel? Im curious what it would do to flesh-like substance as well as penetration
Military pilots are equipped with a set of pen flares in their flight vest kits, and when I was in the military I was told they could be used as weapons, at very close range, and they could be lethal. I'd like to see that tested, if possible. Pen flares are very small, each cartridge is fired from a launcher that's the size of a pen. I don't know how easily one could get those, but it would be interesting to test.
My 26.5 mm Commie Bloc flaregun is fun, but It has hellacious recoil, I'm not surprised you had "Arthur Highpoint" do the shooting! I didn't see any of the shorter cased red or green flares tested, the smoke shells have an inner aluminium case with a separate propellant charge that you could see in the keyhole silhouette. With my experience the colored 26.5 flares hit so hard they usually extinguish themselves if shot into a hard object.

You guys are too danged funny. The ORION can give you enough time to find the ball bat to finish Perpy off. This is a 'Killer' video! (Get it? hehehe) Thank you for your service.
WE need to put it through the chrony :) Nice video!
I have had the plastic version on my boat for years and always wondered.... Thanks!
Arthur looks he could be an alien in a Doctor Who episode! It's interesting to see the damage a flair can do.
I love the whole "shoot it if you got it" concept. LOL
4:21 is that a modified trashcan on his head
Eric, how many takes are necessary before you can keep a straight face around Arthur HiPoint? Solid construction. I love the eye bolt.
•Background check of owner and any transferee;
•Type and serial number of the firearm;
•Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
•Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
•Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration
I likeed the music at the end. It reminded me of the Krautrockers from the 70's and 80's.
Was that piece you added by Michael Rother, by any chance?
Yes its called Flecktarn, Barry is wearing one too, he even has the Tropical Flectarn pattern on under it.
I agree, its the best way to determine what it would actually do to a person. they should do a part II
Awesome video guys! You guys are my favorite channel. You should do a video on the effects of exotic 12 gauge ammo, like Bolo rounds, dragon's breath, Terminator X, ect..
0:21 I like the layered Flecktarn patterns.
Is there any chance on a short video of using the flare guns on ballistic gel? Im curious what it would do to flesh-like substance as well as penetration
That spaceman took the longest bong hit. Ever.
Cool Vid, nice idea!
And as a german guy, it is also very nice to see that you both wear Flecktarn (Woodland and Dessert!).
Thanks for that!
are you from germany or do you just like the german flecktarn
