So in theory you could use a 12 gauge chamber adapter to fire 9mm, 10mm, 44mag, 357/38 etc out of this flare gun because the adapters act as the barrel & breach while containing the pressures inside of it. They're short enough to fit in this flare gun and you can always bore the plastic barrel out so it will fit if need be. Since you don't need paperwork for chamber adapters or for a flare gun, you could have an unregistered single shot firearm and no one would ever know, to them it's just a flare gun. Interesting.
Actually you can. I've made a couple already. Your best bet is to use a 12ga to .22 adapter. I've tried a 9mm adapter thats rifled and the flare gun broke. Yet it can shoot a smooth bore .38 adapter just fine. I also suggest you sand out the inside of the flare gun so the adapter fits. Have fun with this toy 😁
If you're going to do that, use a surplus flare gun made of metal. Don't be a nimrod and use a damn plastic flare gun. Also, it legally becomes a firearm and comes under all applicable laws when you put the adapter in.

@@mysterydude1 Admittedly it would depend upon the iron, but cast iron would certainly be too brittle. Cannon used black powder, which has a pressure curve different from that of smokeless.
Nice! Not sure if you’ve seen one, but there was a cool military 10 gauge flare pistol from the 1940’s called a Mark 5 Signal Pistol. They had aluminum barrels and my grandfather told me that they would self-destruct when loaded with a standard 10 gauge round. Thanks for helping me envision what it looked like! Great content!
Pretty close to right. WWII 12 gauge signal flares were longer than a shotgun shell and full normal diameter the whole length of the shell. Higher power and more height from the flare. Some military 12 gauge flares even had the parachute which would be pointless on the ones made for that plastic flare pistol because the chute would open about the time the flare hit the ground. Almost all of the original WWII flares are now UNSAFE TO FIRE FROM ANYTHING. Age has caused them to swell and usually you can't chamber them. Might be some Vietnam era still safe, but they are old enough that I would not try it.
Jasper Heath-Mergatroide I've seen the video you referenced. When someone says "shell" it's annoying when someone corrects that. We all know what you really meant
Im not sure this hasn't already been noted on here. They do make steel inserts designed to fire smaller caliber rounds from flare guns. Is it then considered a fire arm?
Don't do it. The flare pistol lacks strength in the action to keep the base of the shell from pushing the breech face back. A sub gauge adapter will cause the pistol to break even worse, as in all frags going back to the shooter.

They work surprisingly well when the lip of the inside of the barrel is filed down just enough for a 12 gauge to (insert any handgun caliber round here) adapter to fit inside. Not that i know from experience or anything... 😉
J P they dont hold up very well, 10+ rounds and the backplate and lockup gets questionable, even with a 22 the back pressure is too much, most cases end up splitting or mangled too
Ive personally shot a box of .22lr out of an orion flare gun with a 12g to .22 adapter without it cracking. When i loaded .357 in it, it cracked after around 15-20 rounds.
To be honest... Thats actually very impressive.. I cant believe the fram is still in tact and the hammer still functions. I'm going to buy one now. That's crazy.
My wife is a gunsmith, apprenticed under her uncle from age 14 until she was 20. She has had people bring in 'family heirlooms' that had been repaired with steel water pipe, and even a pistol that was 'a straight ass Frankenstein's Monster', with a Glock frame, an S&W slide, and chambered for .45ACP, and for some reason it only worked with Hipoint mags. She refused the repair on the trigger, way too much liability on that. She still hasnt figured out how it actually freaking worked.
I was hoping you were taking predictions like you've done before. This one would've been a cinch. Actually, destroying 10 of these guns in the same manner might be enlightening. It's possible the gun really has been carefully designed to let go in a specific way, just to protect the fool who tries it. The price doesn't seem to reflect that level of care, but I can't imagine the Orion people haven't seen all this already.
The original flares used the mini-shells now popular with shotguns in general, and I have a number of those flare shells still unfired. But it was a very low pressure shell, barely more than a primer load.
The flare shot (Secondary for pyro and soldier) Always crits 100% chance to kill user and target by explosion. Has a decent range of explosion. Chance to not kill the user but mortally wound user for the rest of the game. Mortally wounded effect: -25 hp +75 damage for all weapons -always have a bleed effect that lasts 2 seconds acfter being shot at / hurt by meelee -Always as slow as a heavy for crawling
Thank you OG, Interesting experiment! Always wondered what the outcome might be, if someone might be foolish enough to fire a shot shell in one of these. We have always had these aboard ship, as well as the occasional 25mm pistols (sometimes metal ones), and the physics behind guns kept me from entertaining the possibility of allowing it. The practice flare is exciting enough for someone to get their rocks off on the rarest occasion.
You guys should try to modify the gun and change the barrel so that we can see what would happen if the barrel did´nt explode like that. I think that the handle would get destroyed as all the force would be more concentrated, I think that would happen anyway. Great vid btw
I always wondered about this... Also, what if you repacked a flare shell with the guts of a standard 12 gauge shell??? Would the longer flare shell stop the structural failure of the flare gun barrel??
Nope, as the issue is right at the base of the shell, not caused by the barrel of the gun blowing out. In fact, it would be worse as the flare shell doesn't appear to have a brass ring for extraction that adds strength.
6:30 this is all great and i remember as a kid wondering what would happen if you shot a shotgun shell out of a flair gun (not for long because logic gave me a pretty accurate answer ) but where did you get a 3 mile long string?

They work surprisingly well when the lip of the inside of the barrel is filed down just enough for a 12 gauge to (insert any handgun caliber round here) adapter to fit inside. Not that i know from experience or anything... 😉
I have seen where people have done that and fired a hot 12 gauge load out of them, and the results were far more dramatic.
I was thinking about how easy it would be to convert it with some metal plates
Monks Apollo as a machinist I've seen it done. 12ga, 20ga and .410 have been made at my old job I also saw it made at a couple machining schools
Monks Apollo the crazy guns people build in other countries is nuts... So desperation breeds necessity.
Max Federle or u can man up and protect urself
My wife is a gunsmith, apprenticed under her uncle from age 14 until she was 20. She has had people bring in 'family heirlooms' that had been repaired with steel water pipe, and even a pistol that was 'a straight ass Frankenstein's Monster', with a Glock frame, an S&W slide, and chambered for .45ACP, and for some reason it only worked with Hipoint mags.
She refused the repair on the trigger, way too much liability on that. She still hasnt figured out how it actually freaking worked.
What if you use an insert to scale down from a 12 to a 20?
with the top of the barrel blown off would it still fire a flare ????????? don't put away the 3 miles of string just yet.
possibly
I always wondered what would happen but never did it because I believed nothing good would come of it. Thanks for the Info GUYS great job!
9K likes, it seems like something good came out of it...
Nah, at that point why stand in the way of natural selection?
Because with people like in the genpool who shitpost about "natural selection," humanity is doomed.
The original flares used the mini-shells now popular with shotguns in general, and I have a number of those flare shells still unfired. But it was a very low pressure shell, barely more than a primer load.

Wow dude
Nice stolen comment
Literally copied a comment
The destruction of the metallica shirt hurt the soul, but badass video
Ugandan Knuckles it's doing a hetfield circa 1991.
Ugandan Knuckles Ugandan knuckles is dead my friend

Ugandan Knuckles I meant the meme is forgotten now
Charles airsoft reviews the meme isn't forgotten
I'm surprised there was as much left of the flare gun as there was. I expected a fair bit more damage.
Gordon Lawrence me too
I was expecting the barrel gone all together and damage to the trigger group.
Nah, the path of least resistance.
Three miles long? LOL
what about your .38 adapter into the flare gun? would love to see that
Other comments were mentioning the back pressure being too much for the gun. It sounds like it'd get rather sketchy after a couple rounds.
Yeah, this pistol is built about as well as a water pistol
john p ... ...SS insert adapter for 410 aint goin nowhere...👍
interesting
@@taofledermaus it was designed to fail if anyone tried a live round in it. That's why anyone can pick one up at Wally world, no questions asked.
“Never use a flare gun against a living person.”
Pyro took your advice quite the opposite:
i've been waiting 8 years for this! lol. thank you. I don't reminder who my bet was against but they owe me money!
The flare shot (Secondary for pyro and soldier)
Always crits
100% chance to kill user and target by explosion.
Has a decent range of explosion.
Chance to not kill the user but mortally wound user for the rest of the game.
Mortally wounded effect:
-25 hp
+75 damage for all weapons
-always have a bleed effect that lasts 2 seconds acfter being shot at / hurt by meelee
-Always as slow as a heavy for crawling
Damn. The flare ammo on a shotgun is more awesome than shotgun ammo on flare gun 😂
This is an excellent eucational video that even anti-gun people should appreciate. Thanks!
Thank you OG,
Interesting experiment!
I think the only reason the fun size shotgun shells exist is for people who want more shots but don't want to put in the effort to modify lol
You guys should try to modify the gun and change the barrel so that we can see what would happen if the barrel did´nt explode like that. I think that the handle would get destroyed as all the force would be more concentrated, I think that would happen anyway.
Great vid btw
Yup, custom barrel and see.
Yeah, that would be interesting. Or maybe wrapping that barrel in tons of duct tape XD
Gimikli Options
A gauge tube will do the trick i'll bet
Would be great to see if the guys are up for it.
The moment I saw YOU guys doing a remote-trigger-release, I knew wasn't going to go well.....
The moment I saw the title I knew what was going to happen.. and so did they. (doesn't mean it's not fun to see)
This happened because the shotgun slug is a high-pressure ammo whereas the the flare is a low-pressure
You don't say
Simon T i did say that tho 😂😂
+Arjen_hoi Probably really expensive I'd imagine.
Just saw the video my recommend list and read the title. Not disappointed with the result. You've just got a new sub.
thanks!
Doing well as can be expected and you?
Man so close to 1 million
BlueWizardGaming ? The sub count?
Pretty wild! Thanks for demonstrating so I don't have to. 😀
what is gun

skatingskelly LOL! no, it's more like I'd like to keep the ones I have! 😄
DroneWolf Media
But many idiots still will..
There's some good stuff back here in the archives!
You guys should get the .22 conversion kit for it!
Have you ever tried aluminum buckshot?
No, but I do have a lot of those alum. airsoft bb's left.
I'll be looking forward to that video.
6:30 this is all great and i remember as a kid wondering what would happen if you shot a shotgun shell out of a flair gun (not for long because logic gave me a pretty accurate answer ) but where did you get a 3 mile long string?
NoESanity dude I was just thinking that😂
Is a Flair gun anything like a Sharpie gun? Does the ink fade?
6:23 "This is what you do not wanna have your hand on one of this thing"
Camera man: *puts hand on it*
2:07 as if my everyday self had a flare gun and a shotgun mini-shell just in hand XD
reading the title: "Aw yeah imma bout to see someone's hand getting blown off!"
Your profile picture perfectly fits your comment.
The explosion sound effects when you fire in slow motion are hilarious @ 2:28
Me inside of my head: "Hey I wonder what would happen if you shot shells from a flare gun"
