I'm 72 years old and just embarking on van life. Lost my wife 2 years ago, I've always wanted to do full-time van life. 25 years ago, I was a part-time van lifer. I've several health issues that I refuse to let them stop me. I've got around 6 to 10 years of being able to do this, and I aim to make the most of it. Just subscribed. Great videos.
this is where I'm at right now. Good job, sick of living in Brisbane been here all my life and I'm bored of it, in wrong relationship we dont do anything together. Want to move to North Qld for a fishing outdoor lifestyle but lack of jobs up there and struggled to find accommodation last time I was up there. I really just need to sell everything and then can afford a van.
I remember when I first got mine, I made a quick frame for the bed and the rolls of noise deading pads and that was basically I then drove south. Two and a half years later, in Brighton, I just kept adding bits to the van.
We all find out what's missing and add to it I use mine to save the 120 dollars a night have my protection and a dry place to sleep im a lot like a polite very well behaved gypsie
Excellent points raised! Been living fulltime in my van for the last almost two years. After a traumatic family split up vanlife has returned happiness and healing to my life. I recommend it!
Great topic...I was fortunate to be able to buy a bus. As a manual transmission, heavy vehicle my fear was being too slow on the road and being a bother to people. I just had to get over it by driving and facing the fear, pulling over when I can. I don't think I will ever go back to a house. For me the freedom that comes with van/bus life is worth more. And yes, the van/bus n RVers are generally awesome people. Working n living on the road 😁 Love from NZ !
I was concerned about how slow I was and holding everyone else up for the first five minutes and then I looked behind me at the twenty car's and then I had a big smile on my face and the words Fuck you very much came to mind 😂
Wise words. I’m getting divorced after 26 years, & once we’ve sold up, divided funds & parted company, I will be building a van. I’m not sure what I’m going to do for money, but I’m just desperate to get away, & live a more peaceful life for a bit. Over the last couple of years I’ve been teaching myself to trade on the quiet, so I can get a limited income from that to keep me going. Hopefully you’ve encouraged a few to move forward now.
There's never enough money. If you wait for that forget it. I traded a car for a mini van. I have a no build, build. One day I may get a camper or a extended van. Either way I just did it. Sink or swim. Every day is a challenge and adventure. I can't do a lot physically but I can drive. I really like the freedom of changing locations and exploring different places. It doesn't cost anymore than renting a room. Who cares what other people think? We have one life, one. Seaze the day my friends! God bless
I lived in a van for 18 months then finally got a good job and rented a small cottage 3 years later I am buying a big van kit it out and giving the cottage up can't wait 😀
You can just make it like mine into a night sleeper and spend your time doing different stuff if the weather bad just stay in your van I like to cook on a river bank or the ocean its tough but fun
Lived ok in a small simple trailer for several years when young candles for light and a small simple cooking one ringed stove for heating, cooking and hot water was nothing more than a kettle. Had a small sofa to sit & sleep on. Bathing was a bucket and sponge. Toilet was a composting home made toilet worked perfect no smells or expensive chemicals to buy. Best years of my life can't wait to return to that style of living. Only I would change is would install a very small wood burning stove as free wood is every where meaning free heating.
I really enjoy listening to you. Your common sense and honesty is very refreshing. I live in Louisiana and am learning so much about your part of the world. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to your next video.
You do not have to give up those things, I had a Renault Master van for my work and so I lived in my van for upto 4 weeks at a time, and I had a bed toilet shower cooker and a fridge. The water was in a container and was pumped to the sink etc, so living in a van without the business gear is easy believe me you can if you want too.
Fear of the unknown is a biggie but in my opinion, we have that even if we’re stationary. Great subject to address!! As always, big thanks!!! Give Rupert a hug for me! 🐶
You have explained everything so well kev and covered all areas that ppl need to think about if they want to live In a van. Great information and food for thought... 👍😉🇨🇮☘️Eire
Hello from Germany. I'm living parttime in my apartment, the most time in my van (not finished yet). It feels more comfortable to stay in my van. I'm afraid to get rid of my apartment, I'm paying the same amount of rent since 20 years, and if I give up my apartment, I will never get a new one much cheap. I don't need it realy, I"m only every 2 weeks at "home" for loundry. Weird?! In the cold month I'm using it more, due to not completed insulation. Many people doesn't understand my way of life. But it doesn't bother me. Anyway, you got a new follower. Maybe we will met eachother in the UK. Best wishes, Mike
I am part time van and part time cheap apartment, work every other week. I need space for my work equipment and parking for my car. I would love to be full time in my van but I won't save any money because storage space would cost almost as much as my apartment.
Love the title and the video! 😊 Your videos are always so well thought out, clear and informative. You have a lot of empathy and I think put yourself in other people’s shoes amazingly well. 😊
Hi Kev, I’m home all day and have four German Shepherds but never get bored, not enough hours in the day. I also go to bed at 8pm but I read in bed until near midnight then go to sleep and get up about 6/ 6-30👍
There's numerous things that stop me from doing van life. The top two are 1: The increasingly difficulty with park ups and 2: The looming pay per mile charges.
Sadly..your making excuses for yourself? We are full-time (for 3 years) and its not easy.. but we wouldn't go back..and as for pay per mile.. believe it when it happens..
@@Martin-oz6lr 53% of motorists don't want pay per mile. If the government and its bodies represent the people as in a democracy, surely this would be a simple logical NO? Or even have the right to choose pay per mile if you do less mileage? But I doubt that, as the tax man might not make as much. But surely these proposals are for the person's benefit? Or do the Authorites go down the road of climate crisis lies every decade? I would like to have faith in the people would wake up a little more despite what happened in 2020.
Finding park ups is a myth. We NEVER have a problem. Share your concern on things such as pay by mile (that's why we went full time when we did) Because 'they' want full control..... but the costs of heat pumps etc, higher council tax etc will still be more than what they hit us for
The idea of VanLife has appealed to me for several years, I love to travel and see interesting locations…Side-note… Being a postcard collector I get my daily dose of searches showing things all over the country, I tend to “research” these miniature views of the past which teaches me history and gives me ideas of places I’d like to visit… Reasons I’m not in a van… (1) I’m married (2) We’re in a house (3) I don’t own a van Perhaps someday when life changes I’ll “jump off that pier”, just not yet.
rent out your house, buy a van -go with your spouse. We've spent the last 18 months touring the Uk, not just visiting those historic places but often staying there. Life is too short to wait!!
Hi Kev, I'm a new subscriber, I like your story and listening 2U. One suggestion: the sound is not good enough, too low. Takes me a lot of effort to hear you and I need to be at a silent place. Would you improve on that for me, please? Higher volume, a mic, and no noises. I want to go into an experience like yours..
Is it legal to sleep in a vehicle in England? Here in Queensland Australia it's illegal unless you're in a designated camping area. So we fear "the knock" on the window when innocently parked up. Doesn't stop van dwellers, just makes it harder. Another very thoughtful video. Thanks Kev.
I was planning on full time van life in Ireland. I'd not considered it before and hadn't realised how locked down Ireland is for free overnight parking options. I went on a road trip and imagined I was in my van looking for free places to park up and have now abandoned that plan. Might need to move back to UK to follow that dream 🤔
Great video Kevin and you hit the nail on the head every time I think fear is my biggest fear and it's that first step. I'm lucky I have a house so if things go wrong I can run back lol and I'm a remote worker so have all the benefits but I'm still scared to make that jump even to try it part time 🙄😜😁 but your video was great to hear and being an older person I need to make that jump soon or I'll never do it. Thanks for the video 👍👍
Hi keV ...IAM new subscriber.. sending much love from si and Cathy from Warrington. Your doing a fantastic job , we currently at our caravan at Skegness...but what you have achieved is fantastic...when the van is finished it will look fantastic and cosy..much love si
Hi Si and Cathy, thank you for your message. The van is slowly getting there, it takes time and patience, I will continue to improve it as time and funds allow, it is getting more comfortable as the days go by!.....Kev
Great vid Kev and loads of valuable points. Just a few thoughts: - it does require some funds to get a half decent van. If it's a banger I'd be worried about breaking down somewhere inconvenient and completely stuck - Van insurance can be very expensive, especially if you declare its a DIY campervan job. If you're completely honest and declare that you're living in it I'm sceptical that you'd even be able to get it insured - taking a dump in my van is no big deal at all. I've done it for years whilst car camping and wild camp in in the woods. I just cr@p in a bin bag, wrap it and bin it in a dog poo bin. I bought a 2nd hand commode off Gum tree and just like the bowl with a bin liner. Job done. Move on
100% afraid to sell my home @70 and take off What if I get sick Leave my family I have the van But I have a 160 lb St. Bernard and a 80 lb bird dog Doesn’t leave me much room I started selling stuff Acquiring camping stuff again Breakdowns / being stranded Not getting any younger Not worried in the least of other peoples opinions I’m alone but not lonely Having a house and upkeep is never ending
To me i left england for so many reasons one was the lack of freedom and saftey now i can carry my gun which is how we have a non voilent society but the other freedom is camping or parking your vehicle well i learnt how to do it i can park anywhere below the radar takes a while to learn but its simple be very nice kind and thoughtful and people will allow you to park on there driveway its another place to enjoy
You know Kev I m just lying here with my eyes closed just listening too you ...just like hearing a story book . Made me laugh when you said about your son only 34yrs ;mines is 32 yrs & he has his own life ...unfortunately I m not part of his life so I don’t have too worry.,I m sure he d love me to do my own thing but on the other hand I m sure he won’t care ether way 😔. Good chat👍🏻👋🏻🏴
You would always need an physical address for your driving license , it isn't possible to have a license or a vehicle registered to a PO box , so you either need a friend or family member who has an address you can use , or pay for an accommodation address....for insurance some companies will insure you without a physical address
Hello, hello 😉- I’ve just found your channel and am delighted ! , I’ve been working toward VANLIFE for the past few years I even bought a van a few years ago right before Covid and the dang thing needed a new transmission within 6 months 😳??!. It only had 56,000 miles on it so that kinda put a stop to things while I decided if this was going to be my “van” for life 😢. It wasn’t I sold it and have been wanting to get going in that direction again. So nice to have found your channel it’s gonna be great watching it all come together for you. You have great weather for this where as I live in AZ in the USA and for the past 3 months most days it’s 114 F or around 45 C so as you can imagine there won’t be many days spent in the van during summer here i plan on going up toward Canada or to Canada in the summer. I think it’s going to be a great way to spend retirement . We are very close in age so I look forward to hearing how you find VANLIFE long term I know I’m going to love it I have all my things from my van I had gathered before the van went belly up my power source, sink , water system things to that effect waiting to bring it all back when I find my new van. I’ll be here watching and sending you good vibes you need to look into doing a livestream that’s a way to communicate in real time with your subscribers and maybe get a little pocket change (people send gifts $ for a cup of tea etc) while your live 😁. Before I go if you haven’t found a vanlifer that I’ve followed and lived for years check out VANCITY VANLIFE Chrome is a really cool guy and his story is inspiring he was in debt had to finance his van at like 25% when he first got into it his credit was so bad now 7 years later it’s TOTALLY changed he has his own Vantoy business in Canada and living the DREAM ❤️. So happy to have found you and look forward to watching your VANLIFE unfold. The UK looks wonderful for this type of life and I’ve got an obsession with MUDLARKING I want to come there and do some on the teams for sure in London oh heck all around I’d love to go to Scotland my darking to you, but that’s a story for another day. Wishing you the best from Laura here in Phoenix Arizona where I wish I woke to temperatures of 12 C ❤️.
It is sad that families and individuals would spend their last pennies trying to hang on to their house or apartment when the money is better spent on a down payment for a stripped down van... For a youth without a send off, striking out on their own, a van is the only option. You need to go where there are employment possibilities and the costs of relocation is insurmountable. Living in a van may be a step down from the American dream but it is not the end of the world and far more preferable to the pavement.
I think there are so many reasons involved Kev. One of the single biggest reasons I have come across is what other people will think. We have all become so indoctrinated thinking we have to have a house/mortgage/career/car etc. For myself, as female, I am a little afraid if I am honest. That said, I have spent the last few years travelling around the world only own, which includes a few night sleeping in my car. Sometimes I wish I was a man (not for long though!) :) x
People who are in a bit of a desperate situation.ie. if they can't pay the rent any longer and need to get out asap . They may well be in a situation where they already have a car or small van ,if that's the case use that vehicle as a starting point, bung a mattress in it and create a descent enough sleeping area.Everything else will fall into place as you go . Iv done this and it's an adventure, it's surprising how easily you can get used to it ,safe in the knowledge you are better off financially and in control ,that's a great feeling. Park ups I use are hotel carparks ,pub carparks , residential /industrial areas I'm 63 and have a small Vauxhall astra van .yes it's small but Its perfectly do able for starters . As kev says it's fear of the unknown. But within a few months it will all fall into place. We all need an adventure now and again because we become stale and boring (I certainly did ) same old ,same old . Ps I go to the loo in my van ,I have my methods and they work well with no problems.
N̈Good video Kev...the only thing stopping me from full time is waiting for my retirement in 2 years..for now its part time (once my build is finished lol ) . Tc 😊
Hello Sir, I returned on my Vlog acc, and will answer that, fear of driving, lack of money, and my plan on unplugging would be on foot or bike, I know it sounds crazy, but, will see what life brings!
Mate I really enjoyed listening to this. You are totally right in everything you have said and I am also one of those people who is always 'Mr. play it safe' with all the 'what ifs' and just always talk myself out of doing this. I have just moved back to the UK after 15 years in Australia and I find myself really drawn to the idea of doing this. I've worked my ass off for the last 25 years and I'm getting more and more frustrated with the cost of everything and dreaming of seeing more of the world instead of a ground hog day style existence. Even in Australia I was working so many hours I never really got to leave the town where I was living it is really unjust if I'm honest especially given the amount of time I was over there. I spend all day watching these videos and dreaming if it is something I could see myself doing. Like you, my parents and sister think I'm bonkers and they'd be upset if I did it (instead of buying a house) but my other sister is really onboard. I decided that once I have caught up with my NI payments I will buy a van and start doing little trial runs. I'm very fortunate that I work from home so my plan is to try working on the road and see if they are compatible and then maybe take it from there. I find everything you have said very inspiring and also following Mad Mark as well. Keep well and warm regards to yourself and Rupert! Have a nice week and look forward to more videos. Cheers - Olly. 😀
I have no fear. People have fear because the horror stories that people hear that you can't pop here. You can't pop that but there's plenty of places to park if you drive around at night and the secret is. Don't talk in the same place twice. Too many vandwellers in the poorer ones tend to pop in the same place because they get comfortable pocketing in one place. Every day don't do that. What's things you can do? Because now people get to notice you if you're popped there a couple of times a week. Then people don't really care. Cause no one's really watching you. It's not something that people are watching you. It's not true nobody cares what you do. Even the police don't care what you do. They stopped to notice you when you're dead very often. You stop cooking in the same place. You're throwing garbage and pissing the on the streets. Then they notice that and then you're a nuisance. That's what it becomes a nuisance when you start doing things in the same place and leave me garbage behind even gypsies don't do that, but gypsus, they were together they got placed land and they helped their own mandwells are a little different, they.Individual people , they don't really help each other
I live in my van.My only problem is at night time.I snore when I sleep so it attracts passers by,dog walkers, drunk teenagers etc.Who tend to wake me up one way or another. There are very few places to park round here where there are no people around. So privacy at night time is a big problem!
Great video kev thanks. I bought a £500 ford transit ex builders van high top long wheel Base van never looked back only reget should done it years ago ,with high household bills and high cost of living costs it makes sense to van it love my own space ,I am lonely person anyway have no family only my staffy chrile I have very low costs now per month love it you only get one life people live it now cheers si🎉🎉🎉
Do you think living in a van is better than living in a flat? Would it now be a preference for you? If so why? More freedom? What happens if you get sick?
I would have to live in my car, if the uk weather was different that wouldn't be a problem... I loved living in my van but I got very ill 2 years ago, and couldn't cope... I have my van to a couple who needed a home and had zero money, and I was rehoused... Fast forward to now ... I would give anything to be back in a van ... But retired and high bills it seems like a dream rather than reality.... It is scary as an older woman who can't do her own conversion stuff..But I have to say my mental health was great and I mostly slept like a log... Watching TH-cam helps a bit lol ... !!
Van life can come with its many pros and cons. you must have some steady income coming in every month in order to van living or have a job. it seems easy because you live rent free and don't have to pay any rent which is one of its pros, but there are many cons you have to weigh up as well like auto insurance, safety, vehicle maintenance, high gas prices, safe places to park, you name it. van living is just not for the fainthearted and for everyone.
Nice video! what enticed us to make the move? Apart from the freedom - We thought we'd do it now whilst we are young enough and before the state decides to control us more. They can't lock us down if we haven't got a house!!!
The one reason that many people dont make the move is the loss of equity in the house they own. Unless they have $ They might not be able to buy or live in a house ever again since property keeps on increasing while the van never appreciates. They may be forced to live in the van for the rest of thier life?
Most people do it because they follow in the mainstream. People criticize them living in a Van. You're a bomb or people are poor yes, but you got people living in houses with a poor 2 when they get kicked out, they become homeless at least with your Van, and you're not homeless. You're just houseless because you choose this lifestyle. If you save and budget, you can live comfortably and small. Even bad times you'll have money. Because you budgeted when you had good times but love you fools don't do that. It's all about budgeting, regardless how you live.
keep it up mate, u'll soon be earning money off here if u arent already. im 24 so insurance will upset my bank account if i start, but might have to bite the bullet regardless for the freedom aspect of it all
I'm gearing up to do this and planned for the last several years, long story short but I find the main problems are fixed address issues. Bank account and insurance can be tricky to set up but it is possible. It is definitely needed for vehicle logbook and driving licence. No way around those two things other than using a friend/relative (they could refuse or the relationship go bad), or having some sort of residential address that you own outright with no payments to worry about. You mention 'accommodation address' can you explain that more please? I will appreciate any help or suggestions with this topic.
IMO Problems with living in a van - the big ones: You still need a bricks and mortar address; Insurance (can be problematic - and related to the address issue); not being on the electoral role (can be problematic); parking (i.e. off grid, can be problematic maybe easier if you're just in a 'van' as opposed to a motorhome). Less of a big deal problems: Limited space; stigma (who gives a sh@t, right?, but still - there can be); power supply (depends on your set up and how you're doing it) The last one can be a big problem if you haven't got it sorted. Ofc, there are many benefits to living in a tho!
My van has suffered water ingress and unfortunately I left it too long to do anything about it and have had to take down a wardrobe, get rid of layers of wet insulation, get expensive repair and finding yet another water ingress. Wondering how much money I throw at it (already £2000 worth of repairs including new cambelt and essential break parts.), it’s an old camper. Do I rip the whole interior out and start again from scratch or sell it on as is, probably at a loss, and buy another van. I seem to be going around in circles unable to make a decision.
My main fear is running into a problem I haven't the resources to deal with and then needing rescue. A childless widow with no close family. Could it mean stark homelessness if my van had a bad breakdown or someone hit and run?
Not as stupid to borrow money. Don't do that. Leave pizza purpose of living. Alternatively, if you can't afford to buy a Van, you're clearly poor and can't do Van life because Van life even though it's a lot cheaper, isn't free. You still gotta buy food. You gotta still pay car insurance or vanity insurance. Whatever this will go to to do your registration. You still gotta buy clothes till the of things you have to do. Depending on what you park, you're about to pay for parking. Depending on where you are cause, some places don't want you to park on the streets. All the states don't mind. So it depends where you are. But family life are living. Alternatively, even though it is cheap in Siri, it's not free. So if you're poor we aint. We're unemployed in the have no money. You're basically no offense, a bum carrying simple.
I have the same worry but I’m not going to let it stop me. I just need to find the right van and then I’m going for it. Probably start with local stopovers (ie park4night - gratuit ones (free to park) where there’s other vans parked up for the night.
I did it for 6 months last year...what made me turn to renting is that the very vehicle I lived in I now had no address in which to register it and have my license delivered to. Please explain how u do it, how u get around that so I can return to the van life.
Kev, where do you park up? Do you park in different places all the time, in a certain spot? Where I live its pretty urban and difficult to find park ups near where I need to be.
If you got no money and you live enough to government, Van life is different enough for you. If you're basically homeless, you're basically a bum. No offense, because being poor is a terrible thing. It's complete to work and budget. Reward budget and live a comfortable life. You can do it, but you will save a lot of money. In rent without error about interviews done a robot, paying a fee to rent a place you're not a robot. Fingerprinting and social security and what happened nonsense to rental place. You just leave out your Van and you're free so to speak, but it's not free financially. You still have to work. You still have to have some type of money. Everything costs money. Everything, there's no free lifestyle and though. Some TH-cam channels will tell you that it's b******* There's nothing free out here. There's no free lunch. That's why I have a lot of homeless people and poor people out here because they got nothing they're at the bottom. They got nothing so by definition you're a bum.
Colin, what a breath of fresh air you are, so positive and determined, go for it, and don't let others try to stop you
Awesome
brill video and so much appreciated my van nearly ready just heater to go but still relutant (fearfull to give my flat up .thank you man
You can do it!
Ppl stay in the same crappy relationships, jobs, and towns bc they're afraid of the unknown!
@@TheDoomWizard so true .. 👍🏻👍🏻

Excellent points raised! Been living fulltime in my van for the last almost two years. After a traumatic family split up vanlife has returned happiness and healing to my life. I recommend it!
Good for you. I hope you have a lot more happy years.
@gudgengrebe and you my friend.

ahhh... 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat and 2 horses is what prevents me at the moment lol - would love to one day but when the kids grow up and move out x
Enjoying watching your videos. No ranting or promoting products. Just genuine content. Cheers from Sydney, Australia ✌🏻
I appreciate that! Kev
Brilliant ! Thanks from Australia 💫🙂

Thank you very much....Kev
I really enjoy listening to you. Your common sense and honesty is very refreshing. I live in Louisiana and am learning so much about your part of the world. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to your next video.
I think this is one of your best videos Kevin
Thank you, I keep trying, Kev
I think they ve been all good 👍🏻🏴
Good video thanks kev keep safe. And keep warm getting colder now 🎉🎉
Thanks for all your comments Si
I know that look, I can only imagine my dog giving me the judgemental stare lol
Money was definitely the main reason I moved into my van! Good vid👍
Nice to meet you,! wow, I live the same life at 40yo, ebay and vanlife even have the same container unit and plastic shelves, lol
Welcome aboard!
No running water...toilet...shower. Those are the things I can't give up.
I’d love a van but as a female I’d worry about someone breaking in at night.
Vanlife is an exercise in adaptation and survival.
Great information and food for thought...

brilliant video Kev... 💯
one of best videos I've seen about starting van life... 💯
Thank you so much! Kev
Hi Kev, I’m home all day and have four German Shepherds but never get bored, not enough hours in the day. I also go to bed at 8pm but I read in bed until near midnight then go to sleep and get up about 6/ 6-30👍
Happy days bro, 🎉 surely you'll get some sponsers in no time!🎉
There's numerous things that stop me from doing van life.
Share your concern on things such as pay by mile (that's why we went full time when we did) Because 'they' want full control..... but the costs of heat pumps etc, higher council tax etc will still be more than what they hit us for
spot on!
The idea of VanLife has appealed to me for several years, I love to travel and see interesting locations…Side-note… Being a postcard collector I get my daily dose of searches showing things all over the country, I tend to “research” these miniature views of the past which teaches me history and gives me ideas of places I’d like to visit…
Reasons I’m not in a van…
(1) I’m married
(2) We’re in a house
(3) I don’t own a van
Perhaps someday when life changes I’ll “jump off that pier”, just not yet.
rent out your house, buy a van -go with your spouse.
Thanks for the tip
You make so much sense in everything you say im 50 next year and myself and the wife are looking at luton box vans its only us two and a dog know
Is it legal to sleep in a vehicle in England? Here in Queensland Australia it's illegal unless you're in a designated camping area. So we fear "the knock" on the window when innocently parked up. Doesn't stop van dwellers, just makes it harder. Another very thoughtful video. Thanks Kev.
I was planning on full time van life in Ireland. I'd not considered it before and hadn't realised how locked down Ireland is for free overnight parking options. I went on a road trip and imagined I was in my van looking for free places to park up and have now abandoned that plan. Might need to move back to UK to follow that dream 🤔
Thanks for sharing this.....Kev
You have helped me with my unnecessary fears. Thank you.
Glad I could help, Kev
Nice one kev
Just found your channel and like your sharing info

Have a great life everyday
Awesome! Thank you! Kev
Great vid Kev and loads of valuable points. Just a few thoughts:
- it does require some funds to get a half decent van. If it's a banger I'd be worried about breaking down somewhere inconvenient and completely stuck
- Van insurance can be very expensive, especially if you declare its a DIY campervan job. If you're completely honest and declare that you're living in it I'm sceptical that you'd even be able to get it insured
- taking a dump in my van is no big deal at all. I've done it for years whilst car camping and wild camp in in the woods. I just cr@p in a bin bag, wrap it and bin it in a dog poo bin. I bought a 2nd hand commode off Gum tree and just like the bowl with a bin liner. Job done. Move on
100% afraid to sell my home @70 and take off
What if I get sick
Leave my family
I have the van
But I have a 160 lb St. Bernard and a 80 lb bird dog
Doesn’t leave me much room
I started selling stuff
Acquiring camping stuff again
Breakdowns / being stranded
Not getting any younger
Not worried in the least of other peoples opinions
I’m alone but not lonely
Having a house and upkeep is never ending
Rent your home out and keep it.
An average woman/man weighs about 170lbs and a child weighs about 80lbs. So the dogs weights are no problem.
@@relicwitch1313 in a mini van There no room with my dogs
To me i left england for so many reasons one was the lack of freedom and saftey now i can carry my gun which is how we have a non voilent society but the other freedom is camping or parking your vehicle well i learnt how to do it i can park anywhere below the radar takes a while to learn but its simple be very nice kind and thoughtful and people will allow you to park on there driveway its another place to enjoy
So many people are held back by 'what other people will think' and by 'what if....'

You would always need an physical address for your driving license , it isn't possible to have a license or a vehicle registered to a PO box , so you either need a friend or family member who has an address you can use , or pay for an accommodation address....for insurance some companies will insure you without a physical address
It's not a problem at All, ask a friend or family members for an address to use that's what I done honestly you find someone if you want to.
Hello, hello 😉-
I’ve just found your channel and am delighted ! , I’ve been working toward VANLIFE for the past few years I even bought a van a few years ago right before Covid and the dang thing needed a new transmission within 6 months 😳??!.
@@jayb429 yes the dreaded weekly beard shave etc.
You could potentially get a dog with you, though that incurs additional costs and care
Park ups I use are hotel carparks ,pub carparks , residential /industrial areas
I'm 63 and have a small Vauxhall astra van .yes it's small but Its perfectly do able for starters .
As kev says it's fear of the unknown. But within a few months it will all fall into place. We all need an adventure now and again because we become stale and boring (I certainly did ) same old ,same old .
Ps I go to the loo in my van ,I have my methods and they work well with no problems.
Wise words! Kev
N̈Good video Kev...the only thing stopping me from full time is waiting for my retirement in 2 years..for now its part time (once my build is finished lol ) . Tc 😊
love your honesty
Amazing advice
Thank you
As Forest Gump says shit happens 😊
That's what it becomes a nuisance when you start doing things in the same place and leave me garbage behind even gypsies don't do that, but gypsus, they were together they got placed land and they helped their own mandwells are a little different, they.Individual people , they don't really help each other
Good convo.

Hi Richy, I prefer living in my van, I've done a video on it.....Kev
Great video kev ❤
I would have to live in my car, if the uk weather was different that wouldn't be a problem... I loved living in my van but I got very ill 2 years ago, and couldn't cope... I have my van to a couple who needed a home and had zero money, and I was rehoused... Fast forward to now ... I would give anything to be back in a van ... But retired and high bills it seems like a dream rather than reality.... It is scary as an older woman who can't do her own conversion stuff..But I have to say my mental health was great and I mostly slept like a log... Watching TH-cam helps a bit lol ... !!
Hi Kev. You mentioned Toilet in your Van. How and where do you empty your Toilet? Great videos. Keep em coming.
Hi Steve, I use the "bucket system", goes in a bag and I put it in the dog poo bin with Ruperts, Kev
@Re-CreatingKev Hahaaa that's amazing!! 👌😆
Absolutely spot on! Kev
Nice video! what enticed us to make the move? Apart from the freedom - We thought we'd do it now whilst we are young enough and before the state decides to control us more. They can't lock us down if we haven't got a house!!!
I couldn't find a flat to rent with my dog, Kev
@@Re-CreatingKev yes. I've seen. But are you happy now?
The one reason that many people dont make the move is the loss of equity in the house they own. Unless they have $
They might not be able to buy or live in a house ever again since property keeps on increasing while the van never appreciates. They may be forced to live in the van for the rest of thier life?
It's getting more dangerous out there.
True words.
It's all about budgeting, regardless how you live.
keep it up mate, u'll soon be earning money off here if u arent already. im 24 so insurance will upset my bank account if i start, but might have to bite the bullet regardless for the freedom aspect of it all
I need to work on my bladder control

I started living in a caravan in a field. In 2002...saved up and bought a van made loads of money 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nice one! kev
Hi, it's just a service that allows you to use an address for a small annual fee, loads on Google, Kev
Could it mean stark homelessness if my van had a bad breakdown or someone hit and run?
our full time insurance covers all of this - they will pay for accommodation until we are back on the road

Yes I have the fear of being a lone female and the vulnerability of being on my own in a car park or lay-by etc x
Learn self-defence, take classes?
Perfectly understandable. Maybe try some some places to park where you feel safe to start with, Kev
I have the same worry but I’m not going to let it stop me. I just need to find the right van and then I’m going for it. Probably start with local stopovers (ie park4night - gratuit ones (free to park) where there’s other vans parked up for the night.
@@SonyaPowell-mt5br good idea! I am just waiting for my Dad's house to be sold and then I will start looking! Thanks for the advice x
I did it for 6 months last year...what made me turn to renting is that the very vehicle I lived in I now had no address in which to register it and have my license delivered to. Please explain how u do it, how u get around that so I can return to the van life.

What about a registered address for deliveries and for for work registered address for work
Not sure if you're aware Kev but your video is out of sync half way through, maybe your software, I'm not an IT guru, unfortunately.
Kev, where do you park up? Do you park in different places all the time, in a certain spot? Where I live its pretty urban and difficult to find park ups near where I need to be.
another thing if you had 30K, van life could be upgraded?
Lack of a permanent address would be my one concern
