    Great video and explanation of how the coupled suspension works. Just having 100 thousands difference in the setting of the couple blocks creating the coupling effect and how Bruce explained it, was great. Keep it up guys and looking forward to more this season.

    Great vid and tech tip. I had a xc137 with xtra hd springs, used it for two up riding in Norway. Best trail sled ever as long as I remembered to change my spring settings, coupling blocks and shock settings.

    I'll admit that I enjoyed your videos from 2 years ago (from a viewing point), when you were just ordering parts and installing them on your new sled. However, from a learning point, you can't beat Bruce's vast knowledge of how snowmobiles work, and how to adjust them to do what you want. Keep up the good work!

      i dont take that personal at all. Bruce is a huge asset to the channel. I still do my thing with parts and making them look cool and go fast and then i have bruce there to educate and drop the knowledge bombs!

    The point of coupling as the gap closes is sooner.. when the skid is coupled, front and rear springs and shocks work together.. even with softer springs.. in other words.. you get a help with ride and maintain greater ski contact…you get more done with less…and compared to the longest delay in coupling and the rear kick or Buck, where the front reacts to the bump then the rear takes a greater hit from the rail angle increasing, no kick when coupling is fast or sooner (smaller gap)

    Great vid guys. I have two questions for the VR1……1. Are those scissor blocks supposed to rotate by hand like in the video? I can’t move mine by hand. I’m gonna have to loosen the Allen bolt.
    2. Can the aluminum scissor block on the boost be put on a vr1 frame? You said skid is the same from the scissor blocks to the front. It looks like the boost has a much beefier skid in the rear (more metal supporting the frame)That would be sweet for more adjustability if possible.

      so those coupler blocks are new for the boost. They are spring loaded (new design) and only the boost VR1's have them. You can put them on the standard skid but as we mentioned in the video the rail of the VR1 is much beefier in the rear because of those new blocks taking such a beating

    EXCELLENT video! I have a '22 VR1 850, I believe my RRSS is set to medium, which is what it was when i bought it. I'm about 250#, I have the HD springs on mine. Mine likes to pull the skis under power at just about any speed, plus I have a hard time with ski lift when cornering and getting on the gas to accelerate again. It also will bottom out on square edged bumps or when you go up and over a nice roller hill where it feels like you are almost airborne, then you see the "hole" at the base of the hill that you have to quickly stand up to absorb, I always bottom out. Don't want to set my torsion spring TOO high or my ride height will be too high to recycle the snow onto the heat exchanger either. Would I accomplish a better ride experience by simply moving the blocks to the high? I mean is it as simple as a quarter turn "could" make it a different machine or am I dreaming?

      so few things here. 1. at your weight youre really a candidate for XHD springs. HD run out of steam around 230-240lbs 2. having the tosions on high will not effect cooling. these sleds run very cool and that will have no effect on It 3. your bottoming becuase the valving is very soft in the VR1's especially for a guy your weight. I would really recommend getting them done 4. your ski lift is due to the rear still being too soft. moving the RRSS to high will help but that is really a bandaid for the actual problem. hope that all makes sense and clears up some questions!

    Got a new 129 Boost coming. Sounds like for aggressive trial riding, putting the rear block on four might be to much. I may start with position 3 and play around. Do you think the stock torsion springs for 210 pound rider will be good, or what would you recommend? Thanks, and great work on the videos!

      yea 3 is a good stop to start and mess around from there. stock springs will NOT be enough. These sleds are extremely soft. i recommend HD rears at least. Would like to see you get 100 pound front springs too considering these are only 80's.

    Great video, thanks for sharing the knowledge and as someone who runs a business to be taking the time out of life to pass these tips along is much appreciated! So I have a 23 Boost VR1 137 that is on a truck to my dealer in Maine. After watching this I have spring questions. I consider myself an aggressive trail rider, love some bumps, 45, and about 240lbs (working on that) what do you suggest as far as spring and shock settings. My dealer is good but not sure they dive that deep into these factors in dealer prep. Thanks again for the great vids, keep em coming.

      Thanks for following along! So being 240 you will definitely oin need of the HD springs and potentially the XHD. I would also recommend getting your rear shocks re-valved as we are seeing these to be EXTREMELY soft. Bruce is the man to talk too. I would call the SouthSide Sales and Service phone and as for Bruce Sr and he will get you set up!

    If one were to remove the blocks all together, it'd be a wheelie machine for Miles I guess ...but ,would the rear arm hit the inner rear wheel ? I know it'll ride like sheit ,but may be fun to try it here and there on the lake.

      if you remove the blocks you have an assault. yes that arm will eventually come in contact with the wheels and that will not be a good day!

      XCR's do not have the quick adjust as the VR1 boost sleds do. You have to loosen them with a wrench and turn them

    In video Bruce was saying if you don't have heavier springs the track will rub the top of the rear shock welli put in hd springs and the track is rubbing the shock could this be that the track isn't tight enough

      doesnt have to do with springs but just a suspension that is too soft. That track is way more likely to hit the shock if you are at the bottom of the stroke all the time. just because you have the HD springs does not mean that the suspension is where it should be. we just had a 23 XCR come in (come with HD springs) and the shock was all beat up already. Bruce valved it properly and it will most likely stop that. Loose track could be an added issue also

      Assault skid is not coupled so is a different set-up and that is why it likes to wheelie!

    I think the Pro CC has a G out bottoming problem because of that front coupling,I think it let's the whole suspension bottom out way to easily,and I also don't understand why you would have those upper idler arm wheels mounted to the rear torque arm? When you're hard on the throttle isn't it pushing down on that rear arm? As opposed to an IGX that has a shaft mounted upper idler wheel?Which in practice isn't affecting the suspension when hard on the Gas?? Could probably talk about this all day 😂😂😂 Sorry for all the comments....

      i dont think so. i think the bottoming problem is the fact they come with springs for a 90 pound rider and valving for a 60 pound rider. once sprung and valved properly they actually work great. as for the upper idlers regardless of where they are mounted you will have force pushing down on that rear arm in my opinion but i am no engineer!!

      Your right about the valving because Hygear did my shocks last year and even with that horrible 80/240 front spring it wasn't that bad, I'm getting antsy ready to take a ride to chibogamau Quebec if we don't get snow soon😂😂😂

    Can't stop the questions How does Bruce set up front shock preload? Does he use factory recommendations? Because factory recommendations don't include where the limiter strap is,If you shorten or lengthen the limiter strap it changes your initial preload? If you could guys could comment on this I'm sure more guys have this question....👍👍

      pre load on all coil springs are set with no load on the shock. its set when the shock is fully extended. you run the collar down to the spring until no play is visable then measure from top of collar to a fixed location on the shock. then turn the collar down to your desired preload

    My buttocks mentions that the Vr1 is not at the level of the R-Motion. The progressive damping of the front shock absorber is much less. The mounting point of the R-Motion shock absorber almost opposite the mounting holes on the chassis, which allows for a longer shock and its slightly flatter angle towards the front, and to have a heavier spring without being too stiff. Polaris is almost there.

    I love how this video is done today but yet people have sleds there that are not being finished. I get the video but snow is almost here and Bruce should be helping in the shop to get the sleds to customers!

      Their customer service sucks on so many aspects. They string people along and lie so much they believe what they say. I know a couple people waiting months for delivery and the sleds have been there is all I am saying. Each person you talk to says the opposite of the previous person. I am not saying he doesn’t bust his ass. Maybe he should crack the whip a tad with his staff. Just be honest right from the beginning
