For the amount of money they cost it would be nice if when you SnowCheck your sled you could pick what torsion springs you want and it would behoove Polaris because of customer satisfaction. Of course they care more about selling you more stuff on top of the already expensive sled. Great video as usual!
I agree but we know how It goes. It’s been the same story for 30 years. Appreciate you following along!
Yeah I agree! It wouldn't cost any extra at the time of assembly at the factory, just a matter of grabbing out of a different box.
Thx for the clarity, just got a call that these springs came in from my dealer can’t wait for my sled to come in so I can try them out. Again very informative video you guys are killing it.
There ya go!! Thanks for following along we appreciate that!!
I know this is an old one but at 8:00 you talk about the bushing. yamaha nytros i think didnt have a good spring upgrade option so instead people would put a larger diameter plastic bushing in that spot. in turn that would allow the preload angle to be more aggressive and make it seem like an HD vs HD XD with just more preload angle. If the bushing is too big the spring can tighten onto it and not work correctly either. the coil on these are huge so i dont see that being a problem.
I hope you guys make bigger bushings for the Springs I would definitely order some.
on the list of things we'd like to do this year!
Hi great video. I’m on the borderline and can’t figure out what spring to do. I’m 230 lbs in street clothes so I figure 270 lbs with gear and tunnel bag. I’m aggressive rider. 2022 XCR. HD, XHD or trap?
Ricks a class act! Hung with him in the U.P. Of Michigan. Ended up giving me a free set of studs 👌🏼
Hes a great guy. I love going to bother him when im at the shop. We always have great talks abiut sleds!
Wondering what the reason is for the torsion spring being quite a bit larger then the bushing it fits over. Hygear has larger bushings to take up the slack, but stock all sleds come with that larger gap.
the stock torsion spring does not have a very large gap. when you get to the bigger springs the gap significantly increases
Awesome. See you at the Expo.
see you there!!
How about some part numbers?
Give SouthSide a call. They will be able to help you whatever you need. 99% of dealers dont carry any of these so it wasnt worth putting the numbers
@@JESSEJAMES322 all i really want to know is what torsion springs Polaris put in my 2020 indy xc 600 137 at the factory, so i can order new ones , but no one can tell me whats in my sled , theres no numbers on the springs , i think i want to go up 1 stiffness when i order new ones but need two know whats in there now.
I called 3 different dealerships no one knows what torsion springs Polaris put in my sled at the factory, 2020 indy xc 600 137.
SOrry im just seeing this. They come with standard Suty rear torsion springs. You will want to go the HD ones. below is the link to Polaris website but i would suggest calling SouthSIde Sales and purchasing from them. When you call tell them we spoke and that you want the HD torsion springs for a 137.
www.polaris.com/en-us/shop/snowmobiles/accessories/performance/2884974/
what year is that xcr and what color scheme is that ? shes gorgeous !
If I remember correct, can you confirm that the 2023 xcr's now come standard with the HD torsion springs at 13# per degree vs 11# from last year?
Great video as usual.
Yes that is correct! Thanks for following along!
Damnit, I wish I was closer. I need all the clothing you just mentioned
can always call the shop and they can get you set up!
What are bushing diameters, OD/ID , would you make for the HD spring? Or are you making them? I can have one made if I have dimensions.
Thanks for all you do, I’ve learned a lot.
someone made a set for me and i have to try them here at some point!
Do you know if the assault boost with 2.0 track comes with the HD springs and do you know if the boost assault with 2.0 track comes with tunnel protectors ?
will nit come with HD springs and will not cone with tunnel protectors. The springs on the assault are different then the short track stuff. they only make a standard and a HD option for the assaults
As a younger rider I've always found it difficult to get my suspensions to hold me up and not bottom out. It's like a bit of a dark art or there was never components available to do so. Admittedly I'm not a professional or semi-professional but I know when I it's not right. I just got a Viper XTX with an uncoupled rear suspension and I'm now 265 lbs in my birthday suit. I've got the heavier Bill Moer spring but I'm having to Dalton up way more than recommended just to keep from bottoming out. I've got the rare Fox float at 150 psi because that's as high as my pump will go.
i do not know much or any about the suspension on those sleds unfortunately. you can try giving Southside sales a call and asking Bruce if he can help in any way
Awesome videos! Still slightly confused on what spring to run. 129 VR1 boost 240-250 lbs with gear aggressive rider
i would say the trap spring. we would also recommend haveing that rearr shock revalved to slow the rebound down
Does this apply to the assaults since they are a stiffer sled?
Assaults only have 2 torsion springs. The standard ones that come on the sled and standrd HD ones. What makes teh assaults stiffer is the valving in the shocks and it comes with stiffer ski springs
CAN U PLEASE ITEMIZE THE PARTS NEEDED WITH PART NUMBERS ,TO REVALVE THE VR1 2023 REAR SHOCK WHEN UPGRADING TO THE XCR STANDARD HD REAR SPRINGS? BEING THAT IM IN CANADA I NEED TO GET MY SHOCKS REVALVED LOCALLY AND WOULD BE SO MUCH EASIER TO JUST TELL THEM WHAT I NEED
unfortunately that is not an option. We have people send shocks in from Canada all the time. Put them in a box and ship them right out!
Got my HD springs from southside this summer looking forward to trying out on the XCR! Will see ya next weekend up at the show 👍
you'll love them!!! see you there make sure to find us!
Can Bruce add rebound adjustment to the velocity shocks?? Thanks 👍
no no no he can just adjust rebound within the shock via shims etc. he cannot add the adjustment unfortunately.
I know you recommend valving when going with HD springs, my question is will I feel a difference just installing HD? 240 lbs on a 22XCR 136.
You absolutely will. You are at the weight where would could potentially recommend the XHD or the new Trap spring. Really need to talk on the phone to discuss that though. But yes you absolutely need the HD springs over the factory springs
Hey Jesse! My dealer says the these part numbers are the same as the xhd kit. Help me out... I cant convince them that they are different.
They are different part #'s. The trap springs come as individuals. They should type those part numbers in and they should come up. if not call SouthSide and they will ship them to you!
@@JESSEJAMES322 Thanks! I might have to do that!
Are they all interchangeable and fit Axys/Matrix body style? I have a 2020 Switchback Assault 144 (Axys body) and I can't seem to find any info on them. The only ones I see fitting on my body style seems to be the HD 704194(2or3)-329. I'm 250 and often have my GF on the 2 up seat. GF is around 150. Which spring should I be considering, the XHD?
these are interchangable to Matryx/Axys but the assaults have their own spring and yes they only have a HD Option. You definitely need the HD for doing what you are doing and i would recommend some shock valving as well
Jesse, I'm 250 plus gear on, a full full linq gas caddy, plus medium linq bag, so maybe around 310+, my 22 VR1 does have the HD springs in them now. I hate bottoming out, I tried to ride this week on the middle torsion but it was slapping my tunnel at just about any speed. On the high torsion setting it's much better, I have my rear shock at 4th click from fully closed. Am I too light of a spring? Can I just have the rear shock rebuilt or do i need to have both skid shocks done?
so i personally thinj you are still under sprung for that weight. you would be a candidate for XHD or the Trap springs. If you were to get the rear shock valved its easy enough to take the FTS out and have taht done also. Not to mention i would recommend 100 pound ski springs. these are all things the boys at Southside can help you with
Great video, question I have is what torsion spring is recommended for two up 50% of the time. HD or Extra HD. Both rider are 180 fully suited up, with small cargo box. On a VR1 137” Thanks
so with the 2 riders i would say XHD but because youre going to be riding solo from time to time it throws a big wrench into the plans unfortunately. By yourself i would say HD but with the additional weight of the rider and the cargo i would say XHD. Let me talk to Bruce and see what he suggests
I have a very similar situation but with a 23 850 Adventure.Can you point me in a direction?@@JESSEJAMES322
Good to know, I need to get my VR1 shocks up to Bruce, I went to Novi sled show last weekend, not as big as prior shows but lots of eye candy, very sad to not see the new Artic Cat or Yamaha sleds on display
He will get them all set up for you! Eye candy is good!!
I put the HD springs on my 22 Switchback Assault 146 because I'm doing a lot of 2 up riding and it feels like the springs are sitting higher and rubbing on the inside of the track. Have you ever heard of this happening? Thanks!
i have not seen that happen. send me a message on facebook with a picture of it. seems off
@@JESSEJAMES322 Will do, thanks man. Is there anything else that would cause quite a bit of vibration when riding? I did check the track and it looks like it was about 1/8 inch off on one side. I wonder if that was the culprit but didn't know if 1/8 inch would make that big of a deal.
Question I'm on the fence about the vr1 850 or xcr 850. I'm a 52 year old man that weights 332 what sled would recommend?
really depends on what features you want. Either sled that you get we would recommend shock valving and spring changes to get the optimal ride. Unfortunately these sleds are set up for about 180 pounds. anything over that require what i said earlier. I would be happy to help you get all set up if needed
@JESSEJAMES322
I'm thinking about a xcr or a vr1 both 850. Would just need HD torsion springs?
@JESSEJAMES322
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm really thinking about getting a xcr . So valving and HD torsion springs would be recommended for me.
Thank you.
Awesome video I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you.
It's has been a long time since I had a sled . The last sled that I owned was 2003 skid Rev mxz 600 H.O.
I can't wait to get back into the sport once again.
you would not be HD springs. HD come on the XCR. for your weight we would most likely have you run the titan springs. and then we would need your rear shocks so Bruce can go inside of them and change all the internals.
22’ switchback assault 200lbs without gear aggressive rider-I know the assault is stiffer shocks would you still recommend the HD spring?
Hey Rick. With the assault you should be fine. i don't think you'll have any issue at that weight!
@@JESSEJAMES322 Does 22 SBXC use the same springs as assault? I'm 180ish. Not afraid to ride hard.
They also make a XX heavy duty trap spring if you want to go really stiff off the Titan.. 14.4#/degree, 72 degrees
do you have a part # for them? Bruce and i havent seen anything about these
@@JESSEJAMES322 The Titan spring (traps 14.4/72) part numbers are 7044814-329 (right) and 7044813-329 (left)
I already found them it's the stock springs for all of the X2 2023 models and there cheap too👍👍
you're on it!
You guys Made me complete my order tonight I was trying to put this purchase off but you guys had to give out this information to everyone 🤬🤬🤬😂😂😂
gotta pay to play!!!
If your 380-400+ and semi aggressive would you run the trap spring or the XHD?
in that range its actually another spring we didnt cover in this video. you would have to call Southside and ask for Bruce sr and he will get you set up with the Titan Springs.
I am about 285 without gear. just got a 2022 VR1 136 with stock setup. Should I go with the heavyduty torsion or the extra heavy duty?
I would recommend going with the trap springs that we talk about on this video. I would also highly recommend a shock revalving to relaly optimize that suspension. Southside sales can help with the springs (and the revalve of you decide) give them a shout and they will get you all set up
How come polaris documentation says their HDs go up to like 320 lbs and their extra HDs go up from there. Are their recommendations that off? Appreciate the intel from you guys. I would love to get mine revalved as well to slow down that rebound with heavy springs. As a general rule what would you guys recommend for setting sag? 2 inches or so of drop while sitting on it about normal?
we have found their chart is very very far off. not sure why but it is. and yes thats what you need in that rear shock especially. we do not really use the sag numbers. we have found that even if sag is right the rider may not like the ride or the sled still may not handle as it should so we stray away from them
HI Hesse Christopher ottawa Canada any word from your sources when possible. Polaris will start shipping the price are cluch for recall 2022 a d2023 sleds mine is 2p20 XCR. Great video you still have standing invitation to come sled with us on our Quebec trails in Quebec north of Ottawa, we have, 33,000 klm of groomed trails
Thank you for that! no word yet!
Can you use these same springs for Axys applications then?
Yes juts not an assault in matryx or Axys form. The Assaults take a different spring!
So which one would you recommend for my 850 vr1- roughly 200lb guy semi aggressive rider?
absolutely the HD at a minimum. would like to see you get your shocks revalved but for sure the HD at least!
You sir are amazing. I’m new to the vr1 world and your videos are perfect for folks like me. Everything I’m wondering you pretty much already have a video out for it. Thanks for all the input.
happy to help. anytime you have a question just reach out!
These 7045924-239 (Left Hand) and 7045925-329 (Right Hand) torsion springs are the stock spring on MY23 Indy Adventure X2 137 sleds equipped with the 650 or Prostar S4 engines. As pointed out here, these springs have a somewhat trapezoidal (flattened oval) cross-section and have a spring RATE of 14.4 lb. per degree of leg rotation. They are listed as having 86 degrees of PRELOAD, cost is $105 US each, but they are not available from the Polaris warehouse at this time.
The IGX 146 suspension used on the Matryx Switchback Assault or Switchback SP/XC and NordicPro, SKS and Voyager 146 comes with Standard weight torsion springs, Light Duty and Heavy Duty are available, as you can see on the Rear Torque Arm Parts diagram. Many riders have changed the Matryx Assault sleds to the Light Duty torsion springs because the stock springs were too stiff. The Assault torsion springs are not interchangeable with torsion springs for the PRO-CC coupled suspension used on the 128/129 and 136/137 VR1, XC, XCR and Matryx 137 Adventure sleds.
MY23 Polaris Titan sleds use: 7044813-329 LH, 7044814-329 RH SPRING-TORS TRAP 14.4/72 Notice that they have the same Spring RATE of 14.4 lb. per degree of leg rotation, but only 72 degrees of PRELOAD.
Thanks for showing the differences between the various PRO-CC torsion spring options.
exactly! thanks for putting it into words! appreciate you following along!
Do you know if the 72 degree have a slightly bent shaft on the adjuster end of the spring? I have 2 sets in front of me and the shorter adjuster shaft which is straight I'm guessing are the 86 degree and the slightly bent shaft would be lighter at 72 degree. Thanks
What block setting are you using for your weight with the hd springs. Soft or medium?
i bounce around. At the end of the year i ended with one on hard and one on medium
I Have a 22 xcr. Just put hds on. Never miss a video. Thanks.
Appreciate you following along!!
Have a stock 22 XCR 136. I'm 315 lbs, like the ski's to lift but don't want to bottom out a lot. Not a real aggressive rider but will get into it sometimes. Which springs? Sounds like the traps may be the ticket?
Trap springs would be the best option for you!!
@@JESSEJAMES322 Thanks and great vid with gobs of info!
Thanks for following along! Lot of good stuff to come this winter so stay tuned and tell the friends!
280# aggressive rider on XCR Axys. Was looking for HD springs, but they’re sold out everywhere. After watching this, I’m thinking X HD springs now.
i would for sure recommend the XHD for you and i really really would like to see you get your shocks re-valved.
@@JESSEJAMES322 Awesome. Appreciate the reply. Looks like I’m on the hunt for part# 2884975 and a shock rebuilder!
Call southside sales and service. Ask for Ty. He can get you the springs and Bruce (owner) does all shock valving. Only man I trust to do mine
Does Bruce have a decent amount of trap springs in stock?
Yes he does. He’s been stocking up on them !!
2 up not as fun. 2 sleds better than 1 my opinion. Still waiting for recall fix for all 3 sleds. Like to look at gear but don’t anything now.
Picking up my 2022 Khaos 850 155” tomorrow with the recall fix 👍 bought it a month ago.
some people cant afford two though. and some may have a little kid. i agree but 2 up fits many people
I’ve got a 22 xcr 136 I’m 220 still running stock springs on high setting ride height on the sled seems perfect but would like to improve handling on rough trails. Do you think I should upgrade springs? Valve shocks stiffer or both
I would suggest both. The heavier springs to hold you up and valving to improving the dampening. We made huge gains handling wise last year doing both so i would recommend both
Can someone explain why the valving and springs in stock suspension is apparently NEVER right? It makes no sense in todays world that we go buy a brand new machine with the best of the best suspension that has to be rebuilt to make it work "right". I understand light people vs heavy people but this goes way beyond that. I'm always told suspension is set up for about 175lb person but even that isn't right? We need something that we don't have to rip completely apart that doesn't need a rebuild, were average riders, not racers. Racing is completely different.
they are building sleds for the masses. unfortuantely in the past they have tried to valve sleds stiffer and have stiffer springs and 99% of the peopel complain they are too rigid. so now we get them and they are on the softer side so people are happy. everyone thinks they are a aggresive rider until they get on a sled set up for an aggresive rider and then they hate it. so what we do is personalize everyones sled for their wants and needs
At 2500 feet there isn't that much of horsepower difference
i am not 100% following
nice hat, it goes well with the homeless beard. without the beard you'd look about 12 yrs old with the backward hat
hahah thanks for the compliment. Ill make sure that write this one on the board. so what you're saying is cut the beard off and you'd like me better?
