Crosswind Stabilization -- Mercedes-Benz Safety Features

  • By monitoring the AIRMATIC suspension, adaptive brakes, electromechanical power steering and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), the GL can automatically compensate for the effects of strong side winds. When detected, the system gently applies the brakes on one side of the vehicle to help smoothly maintain the driver's course in straight-line travel and gentle curves. The system operates above approximately 50 mph, and is automatically deactivated by significant driver steering actions.

      On the highway, I've felt strong winds try to change the direction of my car, and it's a little hatchback, but it wasn't really that bad and seems to happen very rarely. I imagine for a big Suv it might be worse.

      Ever driven on a highway? This is especially noticable on the autobahn (no speed limits) when you pass a truck moving twice as fast as it is, your car will swirl left and right due to crosswind and turbulence. This system pretty much completely manages the swirl. I think that it's a nice safety thing as i hate it when my car moves sometimes even more than a meter to the side when i pass a truck.

    • @spongebobsquarepants5253
      @spongebobsquarepants5253 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carlos Espindola these types of advanced technical computer systems can malfunction and as a result you need special equipment that only the dealership has so that they can fix it. It's not less reliable it's just impossible to fix without specially made computer equipment that cost an arm and a leg to fix it with at the dealership.

    I guess Mercedes took a hard look at themselves after driving their c207 chassis. The crosswind effects on that chassis would make a cardboard box feel like a piece of concrete.
    I've never fully experienced negative effects of crosswinds on a vehicle until I got my E350 coupe. It's ABHORRENT to put it lightly, regardless of it basically being a brand new car underneath, including 4 brand new Conti Extreme Contact Pro dws 06's & a new rear subframe. Yes, new rear subframe due to them rotting from the inside out as they do on multiple Mercedes chassis from around 2009-2013 give or take.
    The best, or.....something. Far cry from the industry leading machines they used to engineer.

    There are so many useless/unneeded features on cars now, what happened to LEARNING how to drive. I've driven in high speed crosswinds, all it usually requires is paying attention, and turning the wheel against the wind. I was following a poor motorcycle rider, he was leaned into the wind about 45*, but I survived without some electronic feature driving the car for me.

    Please advertise WAY more then you currently do. I hate seeing ugly car commercials like Hyundai Honda or something else. It’s so annoying to see that same commercial OVER AND OVER AND OVER. PLEASE MAKE MORE COMMERCIALS!!!
