  • Part 5 of 11.
Come along on this extended cut video log of my solo canoe trip, well almost solo, I did it with my my dog Maddy. We made our way through Algonquin Park traveling 150km in all with 26 portages totalling 26km. There are a total of 11 videos that are each approximately 15 minutes.
Hope you enjoy watching them as much as we enjoying putting them together.

Very nice video showing the diverse weather in the canoe area. The weather at the beginning of the vid looked wicked. Then, we see giant fog clouds on the water, and then smooth water. Very nice video.

What i find impressive is the ability to keep filming along with yhe physical and mental challenge of the trip.. Well done you from the uk.

Thanks Troy for taking us along on the trip with you n Maddy. The drama of the buckles along with all the rain, long portages, and high winds....man-o-man I just don't know if you are going to make it back to civilization mate. I was hoping that you would take a longer trip this year to start us out with. Good choice on the Cliff bars and the cheese. Bannock is nice, but as you have said...you don't have to have it everyday.
    Cheers!

Your videos have been both informative and thoroughly enjoyable. My wife and I had considered wheel sets for the portages, however there is no possible way any wheel set could navigate many of the sections you traversed. That is an impressive feat on your part to handle these extremely challenging portages by yourself. Thanks for a wonderful share!!!

I'm really enjoying your videos! Especially during these cold winter months, it helps me escape. I also just laughed so hard when you said you gagged when smelling your clothes!

CANemophilist I also enjoy taking in some summer camping videos during the winter, glad you enjoyed them. Yup, certainly let my clothes go a little too long before a wash on that trip lol

I just wanted to say how great i think your camera work is. I am a fan of solo trips myself. Some people will get it whilst others wont understand. What is impressive is that in addition to the physical challenge you took on , you still had the mental strengh to make this great set of films
I have watched then all. Thanks from across the pond in Uk.

Thanks for mentioning the point about not using biodegradable soap in a lake. I always run into people who think that's OK and I'm compelled to tell them otherwise.

@BR2we Thanks BR2we, great suggestion. I actually picked one up once I got home from this trip. I haven't used it in the field yet but from what I've seen it's exactly what I was looking for. No surprise really since I've said it before and I'll say it again... Sea to Summit makes great stuff. Probably my favorite outdoors company at the moment. I'm going on a short trip this weekend and will give it a whirl along with my Trangia stove and new HubbaHubba tent.

I have a Deluth pack and wondered why it doesn't have quick release buckles. They are leather belt style buckles. Not as convenient, but they will never break. Another tradeoff I guess.
I really enjoy your videos. I wish I lived closer to the BWCA or the Canadian parks. Here it is 2020 and this video is still bringing folks lots of joy. Thank you so much.

for your collapsing water bowl problem just take a piece of flexible twig and coil it on the inside and it will push outward and will help it from collapsing.just an idea, nothing major, thought it might help.you probaly already thought of it anyway..enjoying the clips.

I have really been enjoying the videos of your trip, and love that you have your dog with you. Just have a few questions, why don't you ever fish and eat that? Also, I would like to know why you have not used Maddy as a pack animal for some of your gear? Looks like you're having a blast.

    • @MaddyTheGoose

Thanks, glad you're enjoying the vids. I have fished in the past but in the end, I like to know that I'm going to have food and with my fishing luck being touch-and-go at best I feel I'd end up going hungry at times. I also found that bringing my rod and reel with me was more trouble than it was worth. I'm sure a lot of people who fish would disagree with me, and all the power to them. I admire those who can catch a meal at will.

@jmotazedi She eats her regular dog food that she has at home. It works out to 1lb 1.3oz a day. I also tend to give her bits and pieces of what I'm having like some of my cheese, meet sticks and left overs from dinner. Not something we practice at home but it's a vacation for her too so I tend to bend the rules a bit.

Hi there, just wondering what the saw is that you used in this video? Looks like it does some great work! Great video. Thanks.

DYLAN LABATT Randle It really is a great saw. It's the TrailBlazer Sawvivor, highly recommended.

That's the Trail Blazer Sawvivor. Yeah, it's a great piece of gear and weighing in at only 9.5oz it's not only extremely functional, but won't weigh you down. Thanks for watching!

Troy, would you say your good audio volume level on your video clips comes from the camera type you have? For the life of me I can't get a decent volume whenever I film on my trips and getting loon sounds filmed they come out extremely quiet !
