Mike what do you think is the best Andrew's cam for a 98 Evo flhtc I'm a big guy and often ride 2 up . Time for inner cam bearing and tappit service. Bike is bone stock now doesn't huff or leak a drop with 70k on the clock.
I don't spec cams for people. All I can say is, "Look up all the brands you can think of and look at the power bands they advertise." Pick the one that does what you want it to do.
Matt, Close. What worked for us on this setup was.... 162.5 Main, STD is 160 27.5 Pilot, STD is 25 96 Needle, 97 is STD. Set clip on needle at pos 2 (lean) recommend pos 3 which is STD as base line. Hope that helps.
@@MrBadgas Good to know! Thank you for the specifics. I have a very similar build and am wrapping it up. I put in a 165 main, 27.5 pilot, and 97 jet needle and will see how it runs with those then change them out as necessary. Mikuni’s tuning guide is excellent.
Off topic question. Is there a trick to removing and reinstalling the throttle cables at the carb, that doesn't make me question why I ever bought a motorcycle?
I don't advertise for people, but I personally always use Dave Mackie Engineering. They are in Ventura California. Dave has set over sixty national speed records. They have a very complete website. Just type in Dave Mackie Engineering.
It would certainly use it. I run a six speed in my Shovelhead. Not exactly your grandfather's Shovelhead, lots of torque. Jim's Evo makes lots of torque. He does run a small rear pulley (65 teeth as opposed to 70).

It was all done with the ignition curve. The guy really knew what he was doing. A very measured technical approach.
You guys are all great. Perfect, Mr. Badgas.
Hey Mike do you know what spark plugs that increases fuel economy that you Mentioned
I don't recall a claim like that. I don't remember whether Jim runs Champions or Autolite.
It was mentioned that the jets were all increased one size up. Would that be a 27.5 pilot jet, 170 main jet, 96 jet needle?
I don't know that either of us remembers (should probably write it down), but each motor will differ, as will altitude, temperature, air density...
Matt,
Close. What worked for us on this setup was....
162.5 Main, STD is 160
27.5 Pilot, STD is 25
96 Needle, 97 is STD.
@@matkinson64 I agree, the guide is excellent. Have fun with it.
Off topic question. Is there a trick to removing and reinstalling the throttle cables at the carb, that doesn't make me question why I ever bought a motorcycle?
Loosen the lock nut and turn the cable adjuster to create slack. Then you can disconnect the cables from the carb.
And there it is.
Hello Mike. Can You recommend places from States that do porting and valvejob to evos. Thanks
I don't advertise for people, but I personally always use Dave Mackie Engineering. They are in Ventura California. Dave has set over sixty national speed records. They have a very complete website. Just type in Dave Mackie Engineering.
That bike is probably a 5 speed. I wonder if it would benefit from a 6 speed on the hwy.
It would certainly use it. I run a six speed in my Shovelhead. Not exactly your grandfather's Shovelhead, lots of torque. Jim's Evo makes lots of torque. He does run a small rear pulley (65 teeth as opposed to 70).
Mike is there a way I can speak to you about my own 89” stroker I’m at a crossroads with?
Describe the situation here. I'll do my best to answer.
@@pacificmike9501 i was able to figure out my ordeal by last night with the help watching some of your videos. Appreciate your willingness to help and all you do brother!

We're all here for a good time. You're a part of it.
I love your videos Mike but after about the 10th commercial break I started to lose interest
Sorry, not a lot of control there, but the commercials is what pays for this stuff.
