On the subject of cross-creeking 12:32 If I’m a co-angler paying a $475.00 fee plus giving the pro $40.00 for boat fuel, add to that all my travel expenses. There should not be a gray area but a rule in the books that any and all areas in the back of the boat (45degrees) is open to the co-angler, period. For a pro in the front of the boat to get upset because a co is casting to the other side of the creek is selfish. It makes one think there is a lot of truth that 90% of the fees being paid is so the top 10% of the anglers can make a living. Great series Bradley, its very interesting!
I've had this happen to me (in a BFL tourny), boater running 2' of water, 10' from the bank. Boater asked me not to fish the other side. I replied, run the boat down the middle and I won't have to fish the other bank. Boater thought about it for a minute, I made one cast to the other bank, he moved to the middle. I made the comment. We will likely catch more fish if we work together instead of against each other. He replied, you're right.

I didn’t know what he meant till next day he hit 4 points and I caught 2 little ones, than he went to a big cove and we sat in the middle of it all day. Sounds like you are one of the few today that is down to earth instead of too big headed for your own good. To be concerned about your co anglers while YOU are the one fishing for the big money/trophy says a lot about you. One would be lucky to fish behind you. Keep up up the good work. You have gained another subscriber/ follower. 👍
As a person who does both angler and Co, really like these videos. Because the rules up front and the back are different! I have been back boated by a angler, less say that won't happen again with that person. Filed and showed pictures of what that person was doing! It's against the rules to back boat a co. Always learning new stuff from the front or the back. As for shutting off the back electronics to save on battery life is total BS! I am a electronics technician and the graph doesn't draw much power at all! Livescope, livesight, and mega live draw a lot of power. I run a lithium 12v 30ah min. Battery for those unit. Your normal transducers like birds, garmin, and lowcraps can run off the starting battery for days and not hurt the battery. If the boater has problems with power get better batteries! Fished with Tom Monsoor in a local Veterans fishing tournament/ great guy, and we was running out of power at the end of the day, he runs lithium but everything was totally wrong on hookups and layout. And we still ran all the graph all day! Here is something I seen the other day, a co with livescope / ice fishing style setup, on the back of a boat. So he had his own electronic to find fish. Lot of money but was like okay! Ever heard of a co doing that and what a boater may be would say? Thx
Haven’t seen it yet with the backside livescope but I knew it was coming. I don’t see a problem so long as I could roll it up quickly to change spots and stuff
Fished a Central Pro Am as a co a number of years ago. Drew Terry Thomas on Bull Shoals and I did a lot of watching on how he fished a jig. What a master. He had a 3/8 and 1/2 black and blue jig with blue Zoom chunk on both. Fished backs of creeks mainly on a post spawn bite and he would snap the jig up and let it fall getting a reaction bite. Great learning experience.
Great guy and all time legend he is. Does things the right way and has the respect of everyone that’s competed against him! We all can learn from him and his kind! #oldschool
This is perfect! You even give a guide for a co angler that plans to jump to the front of the boat as a boater! Thank you for taking the time to help us be the best version of ourselves! 🙏
Loved this video. I fished a Toyota series as a co-angler. I am a disabled and have to use a cane for balance. 1st thing I asked my pro the night before was there a back seat for me to sit in and lean against. I did bring a pedestal just in case. I do own a boat and can get around pretty good. Another question is how the pro expects to net a fish if nets are allowed.
I had the opportunity to fish with Jim twice, on Grand & Dardenelle 20 years ago. Tremendous days & great learning experiences and I got 2nd big bass on Dardenelle with him flipping a salt craw up river. But-he had to put his rod up on Grand cause it wasn’t a jig he was flipping so he put it up! I will not disclose it either! Great days X 2 for learning. thanks for your updates & QandA.
I know very little about tournament fishing and even less about the coangler position but I have found these videos very interesting. One question I have is, is there any existing etiquette for the boat owners to not hang the guy on the back out to dry all day in terms of boat position? Do the just fish like nobody’s back there or will they throw them a bone? It seems like putting a guy on offshore structure in 70’ of water with no electronics or running in 2’ of water with a mud slick trailing the boat all day is pretty shitty. Is that just the way it goes sometimes or should coanglers not be put in that position?
The answer is both things happen. Boaters do things at times to try and help the co anglers catch more fish. Then there are other times when they huge the bank and it limits opportunities for the guys in the back. Neither are right or wrong. Look 👀 what a lot of guys don’t realize is these are not team tournaments. It’s the guy in the front of the boats job to catch as many fish as possible in a day. It’s also the guy in the back of the boats job to catch as many fish as possible with every opportunity that is presented to him throughout the day. Some days have tougher situations that create less opportunities out of the back. There not always the fault of the boater. Time of year and tournament waters selected are done by the tournament organizations. Sight fishing lakes and season is just one example.
Thanks for the excellent videos. I have fished co angler yes and was taught very well by Club members. To include learning rough weather, water maneuvering also. It all helps. Keep up the good would. You’re ever around elephant butte and want to try it I’d co angle or take you out in my boat
What a great job addressing an under covered topic. As a co angler myself all I can say is every guy is dift and can make or ruin a day. Im always respectful, it's his expensive boat. Always offer $$ for gas etc.. and always drop what I'm doing to grab the net if called for. Some guys situate the boat where u got nothing and others hit a weedline perpendicular so u can each cast down it. All u can do with an ass is shake ur head but if he wants to come back and shake a finger about something. 1. Im paying to fish also and 2. Im a Marine Corps Veteran that's silently praying he gets aggressive. Lol
I got into co angling to learn the format of the series I am fishing, with a possibility of learning a few things from some of the guys that I fished with. I bought a 2013 Z520 last year, so I am not planning on co angling for ever. I've fished with some really awesome guys, but I've also fished with some pure jerks along the way as well. One thing that I can definitely say I've learned is how NOT to treat or talk to co anglers or people in general. There was one day that I put my rod down, sat down and ate a PB and Jelly sandwich like I was mad at it and completely gave up, because the assistant department store manager/wanna be KVD in the front of the boat had one smart a$$ comment after another when I'd ask a question. The terms "I couldn't wait to get back to the dock" were a huge understatement for me that day. That was the only boater that I didn't feel bad for while watching him bring a big fat zero to the scales.
I totally understand 💯 percent! I’m sure you are aware that these feelings will probably come back to you someday while in the front of your Ranger! We definitely have these folks on both ends of the boat and we just have to make the best of our 8 hour day on the water! Luckily these guys are not the norm.
Yes some great advice I’ve seen all the videos on the topic. In my 3rd season as a co- fishing bfl Buckeye series. Missed some good opportunities to put fish in the boat primarily because I was too in the game if you catch my drift, always had great people to fish with boaters were all very gracious, and I had a blast. Execution , just didn’t get the job done. I’m a stickler for details so I learned how to control my bait and get them to the fish. I learned to skip with my bait casters 20 years ago. I love to skip docks and pontoon boats. I think you’re exactly right in every instance, I’m 58 going on 35, I just do what I do, lol don’t get hung- up, fish the moment, have fun. We get to fish that day. Great info bro. God bless
Great information again! Been thinking of fishing as a co-angler to learn even more but am nervous of the unwritten rules or how the angler views the co-angler. Thanks for talking about this.
Great series. Really enjoyed the info and I wish I would have had this info back in 2011, fishing the B.A.S.S. Top Six Championship on Sam Rayburn. I think the mental aspect of it all is the most important and I like how you tried to pound it in our little co-angler heads! Look forward to more vids!
Thank you !! I’m 60 years old and yes I’m wanting to want to fish a rest tournament!! I was wondering how the young pros would react to an older guy !! I’ve bass fished my entire life and have only won some local tournaments!! The last thing we want to do is hurt your fishing !! We just want that experience #1 and we or I will help you the best I can ! I’m only 60 but I installed flooring for 35 years so my knees have been replaced!! But just because we’ve had knees replaced doesn’t mean we can’t net a fish !! Us old beat up flooring guys !! We are better laying on a deck netting a fish better than anyone else lol !! Just saying ! When I was working I was fishing Pickwick 4 days a week or nights !! And still put my kids through college!! With no student loans!!
You are killing these videos, Brad. I wish these videos would have been out before my first BFL several years ago. You’ll help out a lot of guys with this series!
Just discovering your channel and really enjoy the content. Particularly appreciate the co-angler series...keep posting this great stuff. Really appreciate it!
I also fished one of my first Table Rock CPAA tournaments with Jim Eakins. Great learning experience that served me well as a co-angler. He also caught several smallmouth that trip.
Thanks Brad, very helpful info. Getting ready to fish two Opens this year as a Co-Angler. Good question in reference to "cross creeking". I'll be sure and ask my boater if he minds.
You don’t have to ask, there is no written rules about it, defend your rights first of all, those boaters don’t give a damn about coanglers catching fish. They even don’t want to save baits, lures, etc imagine how many pounds of lead ended up in lakes because of those boaters.
@@billyburton4487 i agree with you and I know what you mean but I think some of these guys who fish the opens only goal is to make the elites where there is no co anglers and the only reason they are fishing with them is to get there. If you get what I mean I totally agree with you if it was any other trail and even in the opens the boater should have proper etiquette.
Enjoyed the Q&A! Videos like this are very helpful because it’s real life situations that are needing proper answers. I’ve never been a co-angler before but would love to be there one day. The last thing that I would want to do is something out of line that could cost you guys a missed opportunity!🎣
I would definitely get a portable live scope for the back. I’ve asked my boaters if they would set up the back finders for me to see. All of them have done so. I’ve caught quite a few fish that way.
I’ve seen a couple comments on using a portable live scope in the back as a co angler I have a Panoptix ice bundle which is portable but very big. How on earth would a Co be able use something like that ? You have to mount the pole for the transducer somewhere to go over the side of the boat. Doesn’t seem to make any sense IMO.
Another Good video! It sounds like communication again is the "Best" thing a Pro and Co Angler can do prior to getting underway. I'm pretty sure that I would really enjoy being in a boat with you as a Co-Angler. I'm not very talkative but I would make the exception to talk your ear off and learn as much as possible while on the water. I would probably end up as an episode on your channel....lol
Hey Hallman thanks man for answering my question directly about age. I was surprised to hear my name on your video kinda cool! Any rate just wanted to let you know I don't have any physical problems that would prevent me from doing it. A lot of times I feel that even though I'm going to be 72 Tomorrow Groundhog Day that in my mind I'm still in my 40s physically. I'm one of the lucky ones I think at my age group that doesn't really have any ailments per se. I'm sure I'm a little slower than I actually was at 40 but maybe not. Thanks for the advice! Who knows I may see you as your co-angler at some point! LOL!
Hey Mike, I’m 70 and fishing the Toyota Central Series. Like you l’ve slowed a little, one trick I use is to fish with my pdf on, saves a few seconds when the boater says let’s move.
Another great video. I am one of those guys that has given thought about bringing the portable LiveScope as a Co-Angler. Having one in my own boat has taught me a lot about the technology.
I reaaly like this series Brad........ You have so much experience in the front of the boatand have seen the goods and the bads of your co's.... Really great questions today...... The one with the co hung out over deep water and no electronics to view would definitely be a tough one......but as you stated... if there is a will... there is a way..... each situation brings opportunity.... Right.....??? My worst case was my boater was paralleling right on the bank on high ball ...water was muddy.... You get the picture...... It was a day of limited opportunity..... and yet another great learning experience.... Love your page...dude..!!!!
Great video again! Loved hearing you mention Central Pro-Am, loved them days. I never showed up with no rods but I dang sure sat them down and stood on the front deck watching and listening. Keep'em coming!
Like the format and subject. I fished FLWs as a co angler and had mixed results and feelings about it. Seems I could only put together one good day during a derby. I always blamed the draw but I'm sure I'm to blame as well. You have to be able to adapt on the fly and keep your head in it on the tough days. Opportunities will present themselves, you have to be ready to take advantage and execute. Great questions and tips thanks!
Once again, I commend you for making these videos. As far as the health issue part, I was quite aware when at 42 I had bi-lateral hip replacement due to a rare disease and I competed a year later at Neely Henry if I would be able to without hindering my boater. Before I actually committing to the tournament, I spent several days on my own boat to see if I would be able to stand on a deck all day. Turns out I could and paid my deposit and balance to compete. Can't wait for this season!
That’s smart just for your own safety you know. I fished a regional tournament one time a week after breaking my ankle. Cast and all! It was a long week.
@@BradleyHallmanFishing I bet! Good luck to you this season and I hope to run into you some day. I thought I may have been too old to start tournaments after not competing for so long, but wasn't there a rookie in his 40's several years ago that was in the running for rookie of the year? 😂 Yeah... Brad I'm thinking about going as co angler do I have to fish all the opens like you did. And the rules the same as a pro or what. Thank you and God bless and tight lines.
Loved this layout of video q&a. I'm sure you con honestly drop sections of this type of video with everything from baits, techniques, knots, ect...These co-angler series is really nice though. Another co-angler question, Been fishing casually for 3 years and always fished here and there since I was a kid. Turning 27 this year and I've went from 1 rod and 2 small bait boxes, now it's 6 rods, 2 30L hiking backpacks filled with baits and tackle. How do I approach becoming a co-angler for the first time and know I'm getting good leadership from the boater. Thank you very much.
I like this layout. I'm sure it makes it easier to answer a lot of questions at once, instead of typing each one out individually. Great info given too. You answered questions I didn't know I had. Lol

I still believe most of the guys are like me. It only takes a few to make it look bad.
That was great getting your point of view..
Thank you for talking about the cross-creek casting issue. It's always been a dilemma for me
Yes sir that’s one that lots of guys don’t think about until they have been in the situation a few times. Appreciate your feedback
Very good ! Enjoyed watching…. Have fished for years in my boats and with other boaters… thanx !
Thanks for your honest answers!
#oldschool
good info, i agree with the crosscreeking answer
Lol
So good 😊 brother!
Well done...not too dry or lengthy! Appreciate the content! 🤙🏽 Tight lines 🎣
God bless
Appreciated your honesty and feedback
Appreciation is from the honest sharing of tips, tricks and knowledge. Many out just selling products or telling “some” things. Thanks.
Appreciate it!
Great information again! Been thinking of fishing as a co-angler to learn even more but am nervous of the unwritten rules or how the angler views the co-angler. Thanks for talking about this.
Not a co angler but watched and gave a 👍🏻 To support the channel keep up the good work.
Enjoyed hearing your informative video!
I really enjoyed this video. It answered a lot of the questions I had about being a coangler
Great job Bradley! Thx!
Excellent video.
Thank you so much. I really😊 appreciate
Good video. Thanks for following up
I also fished one of my first Table Rock CPAA tournaments with Jim Eakins. Great learning experience that served me well as a co-angler. He also caught several smallmouth that trip.
He was special with that LBJ
Good stuff. And I'm not even a co-angler. And from an Okie!
@@WarEagleTheBest yah I'm gonna agree with you on this. It's their boat but at the same time they decided to fish a trail with coanglers.
Asking always helps
I’ve seen a couple comments on using a portable live scope in the back as a co angler I have a Panoptix ice bundle which is portable but very big. How on earth would a Co be able use something like that ? You have to mount the pole for the transducer somewhere to go over the side of the boat. Doesn’t seem to make any sense IMO.
This is great information
bring on more
Love you to do a video talking about your 5 worst co angler experiences. Maybe would be a great what not to do ....
Not a bad idea but I really don’t have 5 that bad well maybe 🤔
Another Good video! It sounds like communication again is the "Best" thing a Pro and Co Angler can do prior to getting underway. I'm pretty sure that I would really enjoy being in a boat with you as a Co-Angler. I'm not very talkative but I would make the exception to talk your ear off and learn as much as possible while on the water. I would probably end up as an episode on your channel....lol
😂
LOL!
Hope you do see me!
Great video. Every co-angler and pro should watch.
Thanks
I reaaly like this series Brad........ You have so much experience in the front of the boatand have seen the goods and the bads of your co's.... Really great questions today...... The one with the co hung out over deep water and no electronics to view would definitely be a tough one......but as you stated... if there is a will... there is a way..... each situation brings opportunity.... Right.....??? My worst case was my boater was paralleling right on the bank on high ball ...water was muddy.... You get the picture...... It was a day of limited opportunity..... and yet another great learning experience.... Love your page...dude..!!!!
Appreciate you man
some boaters are just jerks
great format Bradley Thanks
Great video Hallman !! Nice work
Well only the second video of your I've watched and I'm hooked. Very well done. Thanks for the lessons.
Appreciated
Great job really answers some questions I am sure many people have
I am co from Ga fishing 🎣 the BFL love your videos.
Appreciated
Great video again! Loved hearing you mention Central Pro-Am, loved them days. I never showed up with no rods but I dang sure sat them down and stood on the front deck watching and listening.
Keep'em coming!
Thanks Mike
Thank You Again for your time !!! very well done !
Awesome video Bradley!!!!
Really amazed at what a good series this is. The truth is hard to beat.
Thanks Big C!
Appreciate your feedback Max!
Keep them coming, sir! Appreciate the info, hope to apply it this year 👍🎣. Ordering ice fishing livescope now.
It would work!
@@BradleyHallmanFishing I can’t even afford a real livescope lol. I’ve seen them being used on kayaks now too. The sport is evolving quickly
😂 Yeah... Maybe I can one up that. 😉
Truly awesome, addressed some questions I've wanted answers to. Biffle would have to wait in the water or on the bank till I felt he got it.
🤣🤣🤣
Great series and format
Thanks Verlin!
Good questions
I just wanted to thank you for doing these videos. I have learned a lot from your videos and they have helped me catch more fish.
Thanks
I learn a great deal from Tactical Bassin . I subscribed to you feed today . I like how you are teaching tournament info . I fish Tablerock lately I live in Kansas. I am hoping to get involved in tournaments in the future .
Thanks for the sub!
Great show again!...lol...my wife and I both watch your show, she near fell outta her chair when you called out the closet Hallman comment..She's still going on about it...lol. Thanks Brad, look forward to the next video.
That’s 😄
Great videos on this subject
Thanks 🙏
Great video and answers thanks
Very helpful. Thank you.
I really enjoyed both videos! I know nothing so all the info you have presented is VERY interesting and useful to me. PLEASE keep them coming!
Will do!
Thanks for another very helpful video Bradley !
Great stuff as always. Fishing as a co-angler in two tournaments next year and this is some great advice!
Always super honest info from BH! 😎👍
These are the best videos ever!
Thanks 🙏
Loved this video man. Great format too.
Thanks 🙏
I bumped that sub button sir! Really thinking about trying some local co angler events to learn. Great content
Appreciate the Sub
I really enjoyed watching first video and then seeing you go back and answer questions. I will watch more of these if you do them
Thanks Roger
Good stuff again! I have had 3 back surgeries, I try to let my boater know if it is more then I can handle. Truly appreciate your insight. Now as far as hanging with Castledine......................all good, look forward to the videos.
A very good info video. Good job!!!
Look up the BFL’s on MLF’s website and look at the division schedule closes to you.
Awesome video and tons of great info! Thanks for what you do for us Anglers!
Thank you 🙏
Keep the co angler series going!!! Love em
Thanks
