I played the demo of this and absolutely adored it. I think the rapid-fire is very fun playing on arcade stick. The stage design doesn’t seem to require you to use the powerful shots very often so I find it very manageable. The game definitely seems like it can be beat with using it very sparingly.
Yeah, you don't need it all the time - but it does help kill enemies more quickly, and really fast tapping makes a major difference on the bosses. It doesn't ruin the game or anything, that's for sure, I just wish it wasn't forced on the player.
This took me back to Star Soldier and I've really enjoyed playing it - I think I've had more time chasing high scores with this than I did with Gunvein (Gunvein is less comfortable to play in portable mode for me). Having a Hori Split Pad with autofire removed the annoyance of the tapping mechanic completely. I get why the behaviour is there, but I also found it uncomfortable for any extended period. I'd be happier with an option to switch it off and have a maximum tap speed of 10 (same as the split pad) while retaining the power gauge, just to save my thumb. The soundtrack is also fantastic and just hearing a couple of bars leaves it lodged in my head all day. Great review too!
I find that the green level of rapid shot (2nd of 3) is pretty comfortable for me only taking about 5 presses per second, and if I'm not trying for blue shot, i don't get very tired quickly. An arcade stick with turbo is also helpful, but I really enjoy the game even with that mechanic which I'm sure I'd ignore if I had the option.
tbh these terarin games are kind of blurring together. i hope he branches out in terms of theme or aesthetic soon. maybe some undersea thing would be cool
I’m glad I watched your review because the mandatory tapping would mean I couldn’t play it for very long either. It’s such a shame because if it didn’t require constant tapping, it would be one of the shooters I’d be looking to get next.
It doesnt require constant tapping. You can use autoshot most of the time and only have to mash when big enemies show up. Or not even then, the bosses would take long to beat, but its possible....at least for the stages ive made it through haha, dunno if it gets unmanagable later in.
@@ApenBaard Thanks - I appreciate hearing your experience. Honestly, when I played a bunch of Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Orta a few weeks back, the constant tapping made me feel like I was on the verge of developing RSI and I had to take three days off from gaming entirely for the pain to subside. So I’m pretty cautious.
Wait... you don't like taping to rapid fire?... 😳 My only complain with taping to fire is that the button get a lot of stress and deteriorate quickly reducing the button useful life.
I have to be honest, I'm terribly bored with Terarin. He's saturated the market with middling games, and is stuck reiterating rather than evolving. I don't think people should buy this game.
@@dingusuhum Alright, mate, so you don't agree. That's fine, but make the case. You're thrilled by each subsequent Terarin release? You're seeing real innovation and growth from title to title? You've played Missile Dancer, Gemini Arms, Raging Blasters, Moon Dancer, Terraflame and you just couldn't wait to throw down $40 for Star Gagnant? Is your mouth watering over Missile Dancer 2 already?
@@dingusuhum Star Gagnant? More like Gag Stagnant. I'll be here all week. I'm glad you're into them, but they just feel so low effort. There are so many great STGs on the eShop. I don't think Terarin's games do anything better than the alternatives. They're accessible, I guess.

$38 USD for a digital copy is a big ask.
I consider myself lucky I preordered it for the sale price of $22.80. Still a steep cost compared to Terarin's other games.

Kinda wish we got a new Star Soldier game.
This game looks and plays so vintage and that’s quite entertaining. The game’s multi-tapping feature takes me back to my youth! 😂

It is expensive, but after trying the demo & liking it I thought I’d buy it & support our niche genre!

Didn't care for the tapping either. Wish they would patch in an option to and I would pick it up!
ray storm x ray crisis hd collection is coming out in a week for the same price. Not a great reason to get this.

Glad I watched this review. Sounds like a recipe for a repetitive strain injury. Bummer as I do otherwise like Terrarin's output.
I just bought the game on sale for 22 dollars, i think thats well worth it for the game, ive been addicted.

Pricy tag but i gave in and bought it its a pretty fun game best Terarin Game though would be Moon Dancer
The obligatory tap mechanic it’s a big let down, not a game for me I guess.
Honestly this game needs a warning label for risk of injury.
I'll purchase this when it's $15 or less. We played the Demo, not worth $38.
My turbo button can break this game.
Glad there was a demo for this, to pricey to buy blindly. That said, the gameplay did not do it for me.

imo every single thing you just said is as wrong as it could possibly be.
