I found this information on the Canadian tire website: MotoMaster OE Plus Oil Filter is engineered for use with conventional and synthetic motor oils Offers up to 99% filtration efficiency Made up of synthetic Blend filter media Manufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications Proven protection up to 24,000 km when used with a full synthetic motor oil Dimensions (L x W x H): 2.96 [75mm] x 2.96 [75mm] x 3.11 [78.9mm] In my opinion, this filter is otherwise quite good, but a bit small.
It's a Champ Labs filter that's made in USA & sold in Canada by Canadian tire ......basically a Canada's version of a SuperTech filter .....my friends pup is in a Canadian Tire advertisement last year
Good morning WCW, good video. Thanks again for posting this. I always look forward to seeing what you have every week. Take care and I hope you have a great weekend my friend.
In some cases a larger oil filter that fits is also available from some oil filter makes. Not sure how you would figure that out though and if it would be an “ improvement “. I think it’s a combination of following the manufacturers recommended oil change intervals, the age/mileage on the truck as much as it is any issues with the filter.
Very good video Pete! When you take apart the filters, you always demonstrate and point out the pros and cons, great job/video. TFS and Happy Friday! 🙂
Great video! If you still have the parts, maybe do a flashlight test? The leaf spring had a couple of ripples in it. Maybe consider adding a flashlight test to all your oil filter disassembling videos? No manufacturer of recent filters have put a gasket on the end caps, I think a flashlight test might conclude it the gasket is necessary. Thanks for posting!!!
Hey Whip i like it when in other videos you would put a flashlight by the leaf spring and metal end cap to see if there were any gaps for oil to flow through.
I would change oil RIGHT this weekend regardless of last change run MMO for 1 hour okay to drive in city no hi way drain put new oil plus MMO drive for 1 week change oil and filter all this fron Walmart Super Tech/oil and filter put New oil and filter wait 1 month yes this is a lot of oil changes but you won't clog any lifters i would also buy EZ oil Drain plug so you will NEVER strip your drain plug i got EZ Drain plugs on All my cars oil changes are easy and fun now 💯
That dirt on the "clean" side of the bypass valve tells me this filter was clogged and was operating in bypass mode. He needs to shorten his drain interval.
Or the bypass assembly is allowing leakage past the sealing surface. May be a good reason to use a filter with a spring vs. a stamped bypass valve assembly.
Yep, MM OE+ Ca filter made by Champ Labs, but unlike most now, not an ecore. Metal core. Would have been interested in seeing a flashlight test to the bypass seal area. Don't mean to sound repetitive but seen many examples now with light in the area, meaning oil bypass area. Otherwise, the MM looks to be fine. Thanks for the vid Whip, and Nick for filter.
The Engine Oil must have cleaned up alot of Carbon and Sludge where the filter media is all clogged up with it. Also Engine driven 273,000 Kilometres where there will be carbon build up over time. Good to change Engine Oil and Oil Filter every 5,000 Kilometres. Probably go from 5W-30 to 5W-40.
Great Job, Pete, thanks for sharing, Nick! Yea that looks like a Champ made filter. It did it's job Normally I don't recommend one but I think a carbon cleaner like ATS might be in order. ATS just doesn't flush carbon, it breaks it up and dissolves it. I had to use it in my wife's discovery and it made a huge difference.
That dirt and junk in the oil can indicate "less-than-ideal" driving conditions. But it also doesn't make Quaker State oil look good. What do you think about these things I pointed out? You got other ideas about the junk?
That filter looks like it did a good job but the engine looks dirty with those large carbon chunks. Probably worth putting quality engine flush through that engine with shorter drain intervals until that carbon is flushed out.

I’ve nev😢er hears of Champ filters so I googled it. I have heard of one of the filters they make but seems they make a lot of private label stuff but not Fram. The reason i mentioned that is because it seems the MotorMaster one uses the same part number as Fram, PH10060
The filter seems small for a V-8. Looks pretty dirty also. Seems like a bad oil/filter combo. I agree with the idea of the filter running in bypass mode! The filter got clogged from being too small for the application.
Makes me wonder why a Canadian oil filter designed by champ labs has a metal inner core and silicon ADV ! Unlike most AC delco and super tech filters with a nylon center core ! Humm!
Whip City Wrencher has an older video: Walmart Supertech MP10060 Oil Filter Cut Open vs. ACDelco PF48E Oil Filter Cut Open And both have a nylon core. And if we compare the filtering surface area: AC Delco 63 Pleats 98.90 sg.in vs Supertech 65 Pleats 85.32 sg.in vs Motomaster 59 Pleats 94.86 sg.in All are more or less the same, but this Motomaster seems the best.
I don’t agree with that statement because I based my oil changes on oil filter life ratio/road dirt ratio and that proves that the oil filter was doing its job filtering out the garbage from getting into the oil. 🙂
Great video, as always. I have to wonder if Nick doesn’t make a ton of short trips with his pickup. All that sludge at less than 6,000 miles on full synthetic oil leads me to think that the oil is not getting enough heat for a long enough amount of time. Just my 2 cents, but with the mileage on this vehicle and the fact that there was no indication of metal particles in the filter media, Nick has been doing something right.
@@prevost8686 yeah so Quaker State had to replace our dump truck motor so yeah that wasn't a myth that happened they are not the same oil. I don't care what the base is just like I think. Amsoil is scamsoil but but Quaker Sledge bought us a new engine for the dump truck that really happened and then sent us two cases of oil with the engine which we didn't use

I belive that's 99% @ 30um. 30um pretty standard for Champ Labs filters.
Heh wouldn't have ever expected to see a MotoMaster filter on this channel. (Canadian Tire store brand)
Thanks im from Quebec Canada and I have been using these filters on my duramax. Decent quality for the price
They are made by Fram sir . They even share the same part numbers .. I box them for a living lol
Could be, Thanks for Sharing👍
Made by Champ Labs division First Brands. Same that owns Fram too.
Share the same as Castrol as well
We Canadians need to send you more of our filters from Canadian Tire (better know as CRAPPY TIRE in Canada)

Filter is fine, but I would shorten the oil change interval some.

Welcome😊 Thanks for your feedback👍

Champ labs e-core filter with metal end caps. looks exactly like an acdelco variant.
Great review, WCW. Look forward to seeing these every week.

It will be a few weeks but I have a Champ XL filter that I'll try that flashlight test on😊
@@WhipCityWrencher Cool beans Whip. Champ XL should have same type bypass piece seal area. Have a great weekend!
@@faxmen09 Thanks Have a great weekend also👍👍
@WhipCityWrencher that light test seems like a great idea, the bypass feels like a weak point on a lot of filters.
He did mention the mileage and it’s quite high. Yup the engine could use a good “ carbon cleanup “.

Needs to run a more high detergent oil. Get that carbon out of that motor

Same size as an ACDelco GM filter.
@@wysetech2000 That is a very General statement. The one on my V-6 is twice as large.
That's a tiny filter for a V8.
It's a good filter, but change the oil filter & oil more often as those GM engines are soot monsters
He should be doing oil changes sooner, that filter is really loaded. Needs to clean that engine up, with shorter oil changes.
Maybe try some ZMAX oil additive to reduce the carbon build up.
Makes me wonder why a Canadian oil filter designed by champ labs has a metal inner core and silicon ADV ! Unlike most AC delco and super tech filters with a nylon center core ! Humm!

I wonder if an aggressive "teenager" tune on that 4.8 could cause all that extra carbon.

Yikes , Quaker sludge and motocraper filter
Current Quaker state is made by Shell. It's not what it used to be. Actually is a high quality product because of the changes.

How do I send you filters?
Hi Chad, Send me an email to, Poker4me007@gmail.com
Media filter quality in this one is horrible and poor quality. Would rather use Superthech or Fram syntetic filters.
I'm thinking that filter is too small for a V8. The filters on my trucks are twice that size.
@@donwyoming1936 Our old 1970 C10 with a 350cid engine has a filter by Baldwin is at least twice as big.
Man, I wouldn't put Quaker sludge my lawn mower
lol, Urban legend. Nothing wrong with QS Full Synthetic HM. Good oil, with all the required certs and approvals.

Same base oils and additives used in Pennzoil, Rotella oils. Sludge from QS is just another urban myth.
