  • This is a review of the Wagner Spraytech 520008 Control Painter HVLP* Handheld Paint Sprayer.
    *HVLP is an acronym for High Volume Low Pressure which means a high volume of air (10-25 CFM) at a low air pressure (10 PSI/0.7 Bar or less).
    According to the Wagner web site:
    "The Wagner Control Painter is a versatile sprayer to save time and effort on any exterior medium to large project. It is 5 times faster than a brush and simple to use giving a consistent finish with clear control of where the paint goes.
    Adjustments to the amount of coating, pattern direction and width of spray allow you to easily set up for your specific project.
    The Control Painter is compatible with a variety of materials, from stains to some paints, and is perfect for sheds, garages, fences or decks. When the project is finished, the Control Painter cleans-up in as little as 5 minutes".
    So, let just see how well it really does.

    Dug my 18yr old version of this out of the basement to apply some deck sealer. After a little "pre-cleaning" the thing was running like a dream.

    I've just painted my sons Evo 8 MR front bumper using an electric spraygun for the primer and basecoat, then switched over to my trusty old Iwata WS400 for the lacquer mixed at 2:1, came out like a sheet of glass straight from the gun. Those electric guns are great for basecoats, primers but for a professional finish a HVLP finishing gun is best, either DeVillbis or Iwata are perfect for clearcoat.

    Thanks for the review. Just a note, Wagner have the Brilliant attachment for a much more fine finish (I think it's 1mm nozzle).

    Did you have to clean / check the filter as instructed before reusing it the second time? I didn’t and second time it sprayed little worse/ not even. Just trying to figure out what was the problem

    • @DIYGene
      @DIYGene  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did check the filter and I had no problems. Now I have not used it for a while so I will be curious to see. Thanks for watching.

      We were using enamel and it is much thinner than latex. It sprayed a bit orange peel but that was what we where going for. Thanks so much for watching.

    Yup that’s my complaint. It has an orange peel texture. Same as a paint roller

      If you do want to paint a car or truck with one of these, get the one that’s used for stain,(control spray QX2) thin paint 5 to 10 percent. Did a nice job on our work truck, nice and even with no runs or sags. Edit. We used the waterborne acrylic enamel truck/tractor paint from rural king. Tractor supply has it too. Thins with water, and has the hardner already in it

      @DIYGene  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Pointman-yf6or , I have to say , I would never use this to paint a car or truck. But a trailer or equipment, absolutely.

    • @Pointman-yf6or
      @Pointman-yf6or ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIYGene Like I said, it’s a work truck. We paint for a living, and a lot of our inside work is new construction so we do use this kind of equipment instead of a grako bulldog airless or brush and roller. Since the q2 does such a good job with stain we decided to do the truck with it just to see how it would do. It sure isn’t show quality, but definitely turned out way better than we thought it would. After primer, first coat I put on straight out of the can, got some orange peel, sanded with 220 wet, thinned by about 8% by volume, put it on again and actually got a nice smooth job. Buffing would probably make more shine, but that ain’t happening. Subscribed!

      That’s fantastic, I am curious about the Tractor Supply paint. I saw a video of a guy that sprayed his jeep wrangler with the John deer green and it looked pretty good. I didn’t know it was water based. That is cool.

    Is this the Qx2? Can I use this to spray paint metal cabinets, fence a small wall in garage, furniture etc..?? I can add any type of paint and mixers?

    • @DIYGene
      @DIYGene  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would use this on anything other than a car. I ran oil based paint through this sprayer with no problem. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

      Wow, maybe it depends on what you run through it. I have had a great experience with it. I used Lowes enamel and sprayed a 35fft trailer and it did great.
