For anyone who considers buying the Mini LED variant of this model, be aware that it might have a strong brightness bloom. I tried two separate machines and both showed a strong bloom between brightness levels, most noticably when your screen is black (but on) and you search for your cursor, which isn't white but dark grey due to the bloom. If you want to go safe, I can recommend the normal IPS option instead, which so far has truly satisfied my personal expectations so far while owning it.
I agree. The IPS panel on the Helios 16 is really really good. It gets super bright, contrast is really good for IPS (not OLED level obviously). The mini LED also can’t hit the G2G response times the nano-ips panel can either. My desktop main is a c2 OLED on 13900K and 4090 and the color vibrancy on this IPS panel gets very close to the OLED. It is buttery smooth too.
it was crazy good last year on the 3070 ti version too. I'm surprised how quiet it was when the GPU worked at 130 watts. It was only very loud on max performance mode.
For anyone who is concerned about laptop temperatures in the 90-95c CPU/GPU. I have had a Lenovo Legion with i7 10750h and 2060 for 2.5 years. These things are built to withstand those temperatures. I am planning on getting this Helios with the 4080 myself and I am not at all concerned about the high temperatures. Just get one and have fun.
I recently bought one myself! Running core temperatures, and not keeping it on a soft surface as instructed in the manual, maximum I’ve gotten is 84°C. With a simple cooling table it stays at a nice 67-72° during gaming. Max temperature according to core temperatures is 100°C. Anybody taking this laptop serious will run core temperatures. The laptop is very fluid so far. I love it. I use it daily for gaming and business.
I'm really worried about getting the 4080 version of this laptop because a lot of other videos shows that when playing a game, both the cpu and gpu temps reach 90 degrees or more. I don't want to spend $2500 only ot have this blow up in my face. I really hope there would be more reviews for the Helios 16 because it is the cleanest looking laptop I've seen, along with the Legion 7
@@jeji5860 so, does that mean that other youtube videos on the laptop have faulty thermal paste or something? It's really inconsistent because some guys on reddit have this experience while others don't

How are the thermals on this? Been comparing to the Legion Pro 7i 4080 and the thermals on the predator seem to be much higher. The legion in 4090 seems to run cooler too over the predator 4080.

Thanks, man, I'm glad to have you around on TH-cam too! Both screens are excellent, but the Helios has wider color gamuts on its side. Response times are on par for both displays, as are the overall specs. So if the display is your deciding factor, the Helios has the edge here!

Yes, it has two ports which supports thunderbolt, but don't know why it can't charge, not even showing slow charging prompt. Both USB-Cs should actually support power delivery with up to 100W. With what kind of charger have you tried it? And IPS describes the panel technology and does not tell you anything about the physical rigidity of the panel.

I would love to, but there aren't any samples available in that config yet. I am trying tho, would love to see what the 4080 can do in that chassis myself!
what do you think is the better choice when fan noise is a bit important the ASUS Rog Strix G16 or the Acer Predator Helios 16 ?? There is a test where quiet mode is used on a ROG Strix with 4080 which seemed very silent but if we compare both maschines with 4060 or 4080 ??
Thanks for your full review on Acer Helios 16, Alex. I have been waiting this for a long time. Comparing to last year’s Helios 300, it may not own the comparative advantages on GPU+CPU performance, but Helios 16 provides an absolute advantage on the screen, which is nearly 500 nits. I will purchase this laptop with the 4070 version. Again, thanks for your video. Still waiting for your Triton review.
Hello! great review thanks you ! I want to buy a laptop but i hesitate between this one and : Lenovo legion pro 5 (I7 13700hx + rtx 4060) They are similar, which one would you advise me? They have the same cost..
I wonder how the Legion 9i will stack up to this. Also, another consideration is how this laptop stacks up the Acer Helios 18, its larger sibling. Any idea if a 4090 version is coming?
I think they will reserve the 4090 for the Triton 17X. We have a review about an 18" 4080 Helios coming soon! And the 9i is more comparable to the Triton 17X as well, it is just overall a bit more premium than the Helios. It is more in line with the Legion Pro 7s I would say.
I wouldn't get the Alienware M16, they have a really poor screen for 2023 (only up to 300nits) also they have problems with performance in games, due to poor temp/throttling setup out of the box. [EDIT] Oh and the M16 also has an inverted motherboard, so if you wanted to do simple ram/ssd upgrade, or even a repaste.. you would have to completely disassemble the laptop, to get the motherboard out and turn it over! Everybody seems to say good things about Legion, really good for performance in gaming.. and cost to performance. Not sure about the Predator Helios, that might be good? But yeah, don't get the Alienware.
@@barkermush7147I just watched a video of someone replacing memory and SSD drives in Alienware and it is all right on top when you open the back panel.
I wouldn't say it keeps temperatures in check, these CPUs run hot & it's a shame how locked down the BIOS/UEFI is (I have the 16" i9-13900HX, RTX 4070 model). I only found out much later after purchase that intel CPUs had undervolting patched out due to a security vulnerability. So now I'm looking for other ways to get the CPU temps down (I want the hardware to last a long time), I'm not highly tech savvy so taking it apart is a no-go.
Usually the easiest indicator is the 250Hz refresh rate which is reserved to only the Mini LED option. However, I recommend inspecting the screen for brightness bloom if you consider buying it.

When i play games for a couple of hours it gives up,my screen my mouse don't repond. Like it is dead. Acer should stop making laptops and stay with making air purifiers. I was going to buy asus rog strix scar and saw acer for less money and gone for it and now regret very badly. I bought it for 2,49,990 and it is huge amount in indian money,i am in dipression, bought this laptop to become a TH-camr and that doesn't seem to happen because acer don't have return policy. I asked them to take it back after using it for 1 week they refused and said they can only repair. Acer is a bad company.
I looked into that model myself & passed on it due to the estimated battery life (about 4 hours?) & saw some info online about bad heat management. The 18" model might be a better buy, I'm unsure if the seller had incorrect info but the 18" model had both MiniLED & 8 hours estimated battery life, couldn't find any heat concerns online for it.
Usually indian sites like flipkart or amazon offer 7 day replacement.. i am going to receive mine (i9 4070) in a couple of days and the first thing i will do a thorough testing including benchmark tests etc and do compare my results with others available online.

it's though, but main choice here is based on size. If u are gonna use it as desktop only go for m18, if u want a minimum of portability 16inch makes more sense to me. Just my opinion
Hello,
I was scouring youtube for some review for the Miniled display version with 4080 but couldnt find any, can you maybe try and put out a short review for that?
I would love to, but there aren't any samples available in that config yet. I am trying tho, would love to see what the 4080 can do in that chassis myself!
what do you think is the better choice when fan noise is a bit important the ASUS Rog Strix G16 or the Acer Predator Helios 16 ??
There is a test where quiet mode is used on a ROG Strix with 4080 which seemed very silent but if we compare
both maschines with 4060 or 4080 ??
Did you end up getting a Acer, thinking about it too just put off by the fan noise
I have the predator triton 17 x and can recommend it....great laptop although a bit warm and heavy
I'm only slightly jealous! 😅
Hi! Can you please help me? I recently bought this laptop and for some reason when I play a game it changes my fps cap 😢
which is better, this laptop or katana rtx 4070?
I don't understand, is the fan noise annoying? Do you advise us to get it?
In the end, thats for you to decide.
I think fan noise is very loud in the performance profile but very reasonable in the balanced profile.
Any link to the wallpaper? Great video
I found it on unsplash.com
Just look for „abstract wallpaper“
These have i9 and rtx 4080.....this video is only 2 months old, why u reviewing the older i7 ones?
It is not older, just a different configuration.
Thank you for your kind words. The Helios is excellent at delivering a complete package, which makes it very tough to beat this year!
Hello! great review thanks you !
I want to buy a laptop but i hesitate between this one and :
Lenovo legion pro 5 (I7 13700hx + rtx 4060)
They are similar, which one would you advise me? They have the same cost..
2560 x 1600 240Hz G-SYNC Display is this a Qhd panel
Great review bro
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Do you know how far will the lid open up?
I wonder how the Legion 9i will stack up to this.
Also, another consideration is how this laptop stacks up the Acer Helios 18, its larger sibling.
Any idea if a 4090 version is coming?
I think they will reserve the 4090 for the Triton 17X.
We have a review about an 18" 4080 Helios coming soon!
And the 9i is more comparable to the Triton 17X as well, it is just overall a bit more premium than the Helios. It is more in line with the Legion Pro 7s I would say.
What’s more quiet this or rog strix
I bought it yesterday for only 1278€ because there was a intel gaming sale and a coupon I think I that’s a good price
That is a very solid deal! Congrats, enjoy your name gaming laptop!
@@NotebookcheckReviews just got it 2 hours ago it is amazing 🤩
Someone could help me?
What’s better:
alienweare (m16) with rtx 4080
Or
legion pro 7i gen 8 intel with rtx 4080
Or
Predator Helios 16 with rtx4080?
@@barkermush7147 thanks!
Go with Lenovo
@@barkermush7147I just watched a video of someone replacing memory and SSD drives in Alienware and it is all right on top when you open the back panel.
When are you going to review 18” version?
Just got it yesterday!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Hurry up brother! If Helios 18 goes out of stock while I am waiting for your review, I will haunt your dreams!
Is there an extra ram and ssd slot?
Yes ram can be upgraded to 32GB DDR5 4800MHZ and as for storage upto 2TB per slot(as mentioned in acer community)
There are two RAM slots and some weirdly disguised NVME slots as well.
@@pahadiasd5992 thanks man
do you know the weight of the laptop with the charger?@@NotebookcheckReviews
I wouldn't say it keeps temperatures in check, these CPUs run hot & it's a shame how locked down the BIOS/UEFI is (I have the 16" i9-13900HX, RTX 4070 model).
I only found out much later after purchase that intel CPUs had undervolting patched out due to a security vulnerability. So now I'm looking for other ways to get the CPU temps down (I want the hardware to last a long time), I'm not highly tech savvy so taking it apart is a no-go.
You can also disable turbo boost from the bios
Does this laptop feat a mini-LED? in the webpage it says that it does but here you said it doesnt. im a bit confused
I think some SKUs come with an MiniLED option.
@@NotebookcheckReviews im sorry, what is an SKU?
A specific variant, basically a different configuration .
Usually the easiest indicator is the 250Hz refresh rate which is reserved to only the Mini LED option.
However, I recommend inspecting the screen for brightness bloom if you consider buying it.
Would like a Ryzen version though, CPU throttles way less with Ryzen 7840
I do not think that is necessarily true. Zen4 runs quite a bit hotter than intel this year ...
@@NotebookcheckReviews CPU throttling is how a CPU controls its clock speed and voltage automatically depending on the workload.
How is the speaker.sound quality? I regret buying helios neo 16, speaker quality is garbage
use fxsound volume and quality will be better, dts drivers sucks
Which of the ports has the power off usb charging capability?
I can not check for you since I no longer have the review unit. Sorry, my man!
Could this run gta 5 or any other game on a highest graphics , and would it run smoothly??
06:49 ;)
Hello ! It is made from aluminum or plastic?
Both
Both keyboard plastic and metal or alluminum for the rest don’t know if it was alluminium in the laptop bulid
How did the helios with 4060 beat the legion pro 5 with 4070 in fps? lol
Can't decide between an Asus rog 3070 ti i9 or this
If you want a 40 series, then buy this.
On sale right now at best buy for $1000. Buy it
Yikes, what a deal!
i think i saw the other nvme slot of the right side near the ram slot??
Yes it has other nvme gen4 slot.
I do not think it does:

@@NotebookcheckReviews i am planning to buy this laptop.. based on the photo on your website I saw a printed number "2" on the right sideof the ram slots does it indicates nvme slot 2? I also saw a nvme mounting screw.. Could acer just put it there without another nvme slot? or it depends on country?
@@NotebookcheckReviews I have same unit it came with 512gb gen4 SSD(WD SN810) and I upgraded the other slot by installing 1tb crucial gen 4 SSD
Where was the slot located? Have you checked the image with the link I sent? Is it on the right side of the RAM? There was something that looked like an M.2 slot but not mounting screw ...
Is the hinge good or nah?
It's "ok"
Not the best, nor the worst.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Can u explain why its ok? Thanks
Finally long awaited 🎉❤
Sorry it took so long! :)

Scar 16 or Helios 16 ?
Tough ... depends on the price for your desired config I would say. I would prefer the Helios for its design, but the Scars are very, very fast ...
Just got the exact same model for $999 on best buy
Nice!
How to fixed freezing for this unit
We did not have any problems with our sample. What is happening with yours exactly?
For direct support we would recommend talking to Acer.
I find those leds on the bump behind the screen terrible :S even when turned off, they really look "toy-ish" and not futuristic.
Fair enough. Style is a very personal thing.
Ram is not upgradable??
Sure is!
tell me what series the laptop code
the 1 nvme slot is a disapointment part
Apparently there is a second one that is just very well hidden!
ohh ok good to know then@@NotebookcheckReviews
How go get this wallpaper??

my predadors helios 3000 stopped workin(completely die)after 3 years not worth to pay huge money for gaming laptop as u will need to pay for repair if its possible in short time,no more laptops for me only desktop pc.
Too bad there is no AMD CPU version.
What benefits would you expect with an AMD CPU?
@@NotebookcheckReviews For me, better battery life at least for the HS. And a comperent iGPU/CPU if you just want to play games or even work with a 65W usb c charger when travelling and not bring the bulky charger.
I had to settle for a Nitro 16 7940HS and the battery life is really good. But I would have liked a metal chassis, keyboard and a better Webcam provided by the Helios.
How much runtime do you get out of the 7940HS?
There are two nvme
What!? Just one nvme slot. Well that's a bummer 😞
Apparently it has two, the second one is very well hidden

My laptop configuration -
Predator Helios 16, i9 13900hx,32 GB Ram,4080 graphics, it's a huge configuration, but it have very bad performance and weird cpu behaviour ,please don't buy and regret, finally it's upto you guys. I played wwe 2k23 for a couple of hours and then my mouse and game was very badly lagging I had to restart the laptop. In 4k editing this laptop behaves like it is a 4gb laptop with a decade old processor. I don't know if acer old laptops are good but this one have issues which you don't want.

@@NotebookcheckReviews sorry just wanted to share my laptop variant because there are more variants available, really sorry
All good, no worries!
i used to buy Acer Predator , but recently i felt their design language worse than Lenovo Legion , they can't even beat Victus in term of look .
Really? I think they did a really good job with the Helios!
i want that wallpaper
You can find it on unsplash.com!
nah dont have money for 4080 , better setle with neo 16 4070
is the chasis from aluminium?
The display lid and the keyboard deck are made from aluminium, while the display frame and bottom cover are plastic!
By fan noise i can say it's a f*cking space ship. 💀💀
Is it still alright though ? Can you use it on balance mode mostly ?
Alex da best ❤🎉
🙏💪
did you just say ASUS?😂in your introduction
Nah, it was "Acer's ..." maybe I was mumbling a bit! :D
Predator helios 16 4080 have huge problems,i own it and regret buying it. Battery is not good, heating issue from beginning. They didnt solve my issue.
Damn, that sounds like quite the ordeal. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I love mine! Best gaming laptop I’ve ever owned. I Have the model with 13900HX, 4080, and upgraded to 32Gb 5600mhz ramjet (16x2). Not sure what this person’s deal is. I’ve got the 4080 overclocked in afterburner on top of predator sense and hitting 19,3xx in timespy. Panel is buttery smooth, super vibrant(after config), and the G2G response is amazing. temps are amazing on the GPU and with the CPU on LM, and noise isn’t bad at all for a gaming laptop. One of the best and I’ve owned more than 200 PC’s (desktops and laptops) in my lifetime all the way back to Intel 80386. If you are buying ANY high spec gaming laptop and a prerequisite is good battery life, you honestly have no business purchasing and/or owning a gaming laptop.. 😂 review honestly sounds like “paid by competitor” nonsense. The laptop is amazing. I’ve been building/repairing PC’s and Mac’s for 28 years..
@@cdieseldawg5850 if you can overclock or do any bullshit,do you think everyone can do it ? Laptops should be friendly not complicated, maybe you are paid by acer, think before you say anything. Laptop have so many issues, that's it
Acer has locked undervolting even in unlocked Core i9 HX processors. It's locked in CPU microcodes and can't be unlocked. Buyers be aware!!!!
What do you mean by that? that its not completely i9?
