      @@richguev Depends on whether or not Asus properly applied liquid metal on the CPU. Asus has terrible quality control on liquid metal applications on their laptops. Mine was not applied correctly. It is a pain in the neck to fix it since liquid metal shorts components on your motherboard (ie capacitors) it comes into contact with. The cooling is great when properly applied but thermally throttles to the base clock speeds on an all-core stress test when not applied correctly. Also, ASUS has terrible limited Manufacturer warranties. I would recommend other brands over Asus

    Solid breakdown, but I think you treated this a bit too much like a typical desktop GPU review and should have a highlighted a few critical points unique to laptops.
    -laptop screens (especially sub 16") are so small that resolutions above 1080p have limited usefulness
    -batteries for dedicated GPU laptops will be effectively useless after a year or two of use
    -dedicated GPU laptops get VERY hot while playing demanding content
    Put these things together and you quickly realize there are 3 gaming laptop use cases.
    1) an iGPU capable of medium setting 1080p games that can actually be used on battery for multiple hours
    2) a dedicated GPU that can fully max 1080p gaming, which looks great on a small screen, but needs to be plugged in
    3) a dedicated GPU that can game at 1440p or 4K, and should really be connected to a large external display
    I wish laptops for #3 were actually called a different name like "portable desktop" because having a 10lb lava box on your lap does not make sense. Personally I'm most excited for the recent advancements in #1 because I want to be able to actually use my laptop when not near a power source.

      Bingo. #1 is my desired option, but looking at Lenovo Yoga 7 Pro with 3050 is a nice middle ground. Doesn't get obscenely hot, performs decent at 1080p and has good enough specs to run whatever you need daily. Plus designs, all alu, port selection etc are all good. Older model also had hdmi. Unsure about these latest ones from 2023 do or not. Either way, premium for $7-900 at Mac level design. Beautiful machines.

      Super useful comment, in my case having a portable desktop is essentially what I'm after lol, I won't need battery life for gaming, just for tasks like word, research online, possibly some 3d modelling in the future. I'm only planning on gaming when connected to a power source, and I've found a few laptops that meet my specs for school/work and seem good for gaming. I feel I'm in the minority of consumers though, because Ive been gifted money for a computer and specifically want a high powered laptop to use around town and at college, but that I can game on at home as well. Long ass ramble lol but if anyone reading has recommendations I'm still looking around rn so I'd appreciate it :)

      @@shaeisgae8952 You should be looking for the biggest GPU for the lowest price. Fairly standard stuff and I think keeping up with Jason's monthly vids should give a great snapshot of potential deals.
      Just fyi, when I say "batteries will be effectively useless" I mean the laptop will not run at all for more than 5 minutes. Not gaming. Just literally running the OS will cause it to die. I can't say this will 100% happen to you, but most GPUs today are absolute power hogs so I would suspect this is a very widespread issue. Does not matter in the slightest as long as you plug it in, but you mentioned potentially wanting to use your laptop on battery so just thought you should know.

    Wish I did better research 2 months ago when I was shopping for my first gaming laptop. I almost went too cheap by getting a laptop with a 12th gen i5 and a 4GB RTX 2050, but got lucky because the laptop sold out before I could make the purchase. I ended up getting a MSI Cyborg 15 with an i7-12650H and 8GB RTX 4060, runs decently on the games I play but the fans are a little louder than I would like. Ran for 850$ from a best buy sale, but shipped with only 8GB RAM and 500GB SSD, so I just spent 150$ to add in a 32GB kit and 1TB SSD. Hopefully the build holds up for the next few years till I'm out of college and building my first desktop!

      its not a great laptop at all, but for 850$ price range its actually a decent deal, just 4050 and 4060 are totally not worth the price and its better to buy 3070 last get laptop for that money range and hit +30-40% more performance and fps

      @dragonise13 If the budget is 3000$, my preference would be to build a 1440p PC setup with around 1800$ and get a sleek 14-inch laptop for around 1200$. It's my preference because ultrabooks like zenbook 14 tend to have a way better battery life and have the power for most of the apps I would need on the go. If you need more portable power, you can go with the one you mentioned, but you should see what all the choices you can make for your budget and your convenience.

    I have to disagree on one point. RTX 4080 12GB is definitively no-compromises gaming. It handles basically anything with elegance on 1440/1600p, and even decently with RT in some titles. The little extra you get from 4090 comes at a huge price diff. If you're filthy rich, then yeah, but for mere mortals, no. 4070 isn't worth it compared to 4060 8GB either.
    Asus Strix G16 and Lenovo Legion 7(i) have actually been reasonably cheap with 4080. Definitely not budget, but okey from $2200

    Is HDR an important feature? If so, should I get HDR10, HDR10+ or HDR400?

    • @kirby0louise
      @kirby0louise 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you're playing games that support HDR or AutoHDR, yes, it can make a very big difference.
      HDR10 and HDR10+ are display standards (think NTSC), they describe how the data being sent to the display should be formatted so all displays are on the same page with how to communicate with GPUs. HDR400 is a VESA standard that describes the qualities of a monitor's panel. It's the lowest possible HDR grade and provides functionally no real HDR.
      You shouldn't rely on VESA standards because they are (intentionally) easy to cheat, instead look for high zone count mini LED displays or OLEDs. Rely on independent reviews rather than stickers on the box

    I need to know if it makes sense to upgrade my PC from an I5 10400F with 1 ram stick of ddr4 (very slow speed) to a new ddr5 mainboard with an Ryzen 7600 and 32 gigs of ddr5 ram (6000)

    I need a gaming laptop that I can install massive amounts of Hard Drive Storage. 4TB is just too small for what I do. What gaming laptops allow you to install higher HD storage?
    I mean video games now a days are so huge that I can install only a few games on a 1TB or 2TB Hard Drive. Plus doing video editing as a content creator fills up my Hard Drives extremely fast.
    So if you can, could you include Hard Drive Storage info more. I see one that you did, but I just need more space LOL. I mean I have external drives that go up to 12 TB but I can't take those with me everywhere I go. I want something inside like my Acer Predator Helios that I could install two 3.5 drives and two NVMe drives.
    Well anyway, thanks for the video. I hate having to shop for a new laptop. I believe mine just went to the BSOD graveyard tonight. It was a good laptop. I got it in 2019 and took good care of it. But electronics don't last forever.
    Keep up the good work and again, thanks for the videos.

    Considering the newest GPUs alone, yes the 4050 is not as good as the other nvidia 40 series cards; but considering older GPUs, it’s still really good value. 6gb of vram will cause issues, but for many people who don’t play the most modern games, it’s really just a nonissue.
    With performance comparable to a desktop 3060, especially if you utilize the more modern DLSS and Framegen tech? The 4050 really has been undervalued it seems.

  • @antonhallergren588
    @antonhallergren588 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    $6-800 dollar budget=780m 32gb ram (allocate more ram to the gpu) now you have almost 3050 or so performace and the same cpu and build quality of a much nicer laptop.
    $1000-1200 Mid range=rtx 4060 >100w (4050 not enough vram and 4070 is not that much better than the 100w 4060s to justify the price or sacrifice of other compontents) pair w ryzen 7 or i7 saving money from the not that much better 9 or i9 to upgrade to 32gb ram and potentially more storage.
    $2000 all out=anything with an rtx4080 (way better than the 4070 and about as good as the 4090 for way less and with less heat issues) Cpu can be ryzen 7,9,HX or i7,i9,core 9. 32 gb ram at least. Look for better screens too here if avaliable.
