This was very informative and awesome. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff 😂. You helped me gain a much better under understanding. I know that the consensus says a gaming pc vs a laptop is better, but let’s say I was stuck on the idea that a laptop was more convenient; how much would I be missing out on if I got that 1st laptop you spoke about in the video, vs building a desktop pc? Thanks for your help.
@dragonise13 If the budget is 3000$, my preference would be to build a 1440p PC setup with around 1800$ and get a sleek 14-inch laptop for around 1200$. It's my preference because ultrabooks like zenbook 14 tend to have a way better battery life and have the power for most of the apps I would need on the go. If you need more portable power, you can go with the one you mentioned, but you should see what all the choices you can make for your budget and your convenience.

NEVER BUYing A ALIENWARE laptop again. why do they KEEP putting the charging port in the exhaust areas. overheats the GPU and then after a year or two it just dies. "buy a cooling fan" why when they can fix this and stop forcing us to upgrade/fix our laptops
@@matsakix1180 I actually haven't used this model personally, but I guess the fans do look better. I can't say for the exhaust pipes, but damn I guess you're one of the lucky ones some ppl had issues on delivery like keys not working and had to send it back and others had bio issue start up. but dang GG I guess haha, sadly from my other experiences of alienware idk if I can use them ever again its like a gacha 50/50 game with them. Dell is so unreliable
@HopeEnstine that's understandable that how I felt about the zephyrus g14, I had too many issues and I had to replace it twice. This alienware has been so solid. Like it's been a joy and has a 4k oled and it does look really good. I've also had dell products before like the g3 and to this day this laptop still works like if it was new.
Me watching this, comparing my laptops specs, the one I had minimum requirements for uni. I think i7 13th gen, a 4060, 1tb storage, 32 gb of ram are overkill for minimum requirements, but like, sure. Now I got a beast laptop and pc

I just recently won a bid on an Alienware m18 with a ryzen 9 7845hx and 4080 with a 1080p 480hz screen refurbished for 1800 but had to pay taxes so a bit more around 1900 but hey it was under $2K.😅 im gonna upgrade the storage and on idle without a third-party cooler it doesn't run super hot so im happy 😊
@AnonymousUser-ww6nsyeah it performs alright, but it was 600 with tax included. Was around 540 pre tax. Didn’t even need a laptop but for for the price, I had to pick it up.
Hope your doing well Jason, I was wondering if it was time for another video on laptops. I haven’t payed enough attention to laptops recently and my buddy is in the market for one. Appreciate everything you do for the community!
Wow seeing these prices, it makes me feel even better that I bought my laptop on Newegg sale! Acer Nitro 16 with Ryzen 7840HS, 16GB 5600mhz ram, RTX 4070, 1TB SSD, WQHD 165hz screen for 1099$
Just got myself a new 7945hx3d rtx 4080 just recently. Best part, i actually just ordered a 7945hx rtx 4080. Free 3d bonus it seems, even so i don´t think the difference in general is that relevant. My old hp pavillion ryzen 7 5800h + rtx 3050 is still far from useless and performs quite well.
If a 1k laptop is ultra budget i dont wanna hear no mo 😢 Also please remember 13 gen intel have stability issues, the generation are the 2 first nimbers haveter the model
Totally agree with Jason's recommendations but for those of you on the ultra budget level check out Acer Aspire 3 models. Can be found with 1080p, IPS and AMD APUs for $300-$500. Gaming performance isn't gonna blow you away but it's something.
I've gotmyself a Legion Pro 5i with 13700HX and RTX 4060, it had a 240 Hz with HDR400, and the content consumption with HDR on is really good in this panel
Got my asus scar 17 4080 175w with ryzen 7945x 2tb ssd and 32g of ram for 2300 EUR (2500$) with a whapping 800$ discount that I was hunting for 6 months all over the damn world. After 3070 ryzen 5800h legion 5 pro - this thing feels and runs like a spaceship, powerhouse
Great Video.. I picked up the Alienware m16 R2 4070 at BB $1,300... I just can't see paying more, I'll just buy another one in 2 or three years when the 50 cards come down in price...
Suprised the HP Omen 16 isn’t here for $1100 you get a nvidia 4070 8 gigs, Intel 14700HX processor, 165hz 1080 screen, 1tb of storage with an extra slot, and 32gb of DDR5 ram.
I was gonna get the 2024 Lenovo with the 4070 for 2k until I saw an open box excellent condition 2024 ASUS G14 4060 for $918. Aside from the ram being soldered it’s a fantastic deal for my current needs, I’m planning on passing it on to my niece once the new cpus and gpus are out that way I’ll get what I want.
$6-800 dollar budget=780m 32gb ram (allocate more ram to the gpu) now you have almost 3050 or so performace and the same cpu and build quality of a much nicer laptop. $1000-1200 Mid range=rtx 4060 >100w (4050 not enough vram and 4070 is not that much better than the 100w 4060s to justify the price or sacrifice of other compontents) pair w ryzen 7 or i7 saving money from the not that much better 9 or i9 to upgrade to 32gb ram and potentially more storage. $2000 all out=anything with an rtx4080 (way better than the 4070 and about as good as the 4090 for way less and with less heat issues) Cpu can be ryzen 7,9,HX or i7,i9,core 9. 32 gb ram at least. Look for better screens too here if avaliable.
Considering the newest GPUs alone, yes the 4050 is not as good as the other nvidia 40 series cards; but considering older GPUs, it’s still really good value. 6gb of vram will cause issues, but for many people who don’t play the most modern games, it’s really just a nonissue. With performance comparable to a desktop 3060, especially if you utilize the more modern DLSS and Framegen tech? The 4050 really has been undervalued it seems.
@PCBuilderChannel would like to see a build video of you building a gaming PC that compares to latest gaming laptops specs that's a lot cheaper! and to give us reasons as to why a gaming PC is better in the long run for those of us debating on whether to buy a gaming PC or gaming laptop. thanks for all the great videos also looking forward to your next budget build video showing us what to build at different prices!
No need to wonder, desktop builds are always going to be stronger than a laptop due to heat and power . That's just a hard and fast rule. Laptops are valuable if you need portability. Otherwise you are always better off with a desktop pc. But the good news is its a great time to build a pc and its about to be even greater during Prime Day sales next week! Say tuned on the channel we will have lots of great sample build lists coming your way (;

Later this year, I'm going to buy my first big purchase, a Storm 480 (4080) from Avell, a Brazilian maker. It's going to be quite a strain on my salary for 2 years (less if I can snag the two promotions my job offers in that time-frame), but it will be soooo worth it!

I need a gaming laptop that I can install massive amounts of Hard Drive Storage. 4TB is just too small for what I do. What gaming laptops allow you to install higher HD storage? I mean video games now a days are so huge that I can install only a few games on a 1TB or 2TB Hard Drive. Plus doing video editing as a content creator fills up my Hard Drives extremely fast. So if you can, could you include Hard Drive Storage info more. I see one that you did, but I just need more space LOL. I mean I have external drives that go up to 12 TB but I can't take those with me everywhere I go. I want something inside like my Acer Predator Helios that I could install two 3.5 drives and two NVMe drives. Well anyway, thanks for the video. I hate having to shop for a new laptop. I believe mine just went to the BSOD graveyard tonight. It was a good laptop. I got it in 2019 and took good care of it. But electronics don't last forever. Keep up the good work and again, thanks for the videos.
Honestly, I have a 3070 Mobile, and it will run just fine for the next launch till 60 series, their is barely any performance improvements GPU side, in terms of the 60/70 class of Mobile
I think the price to performance right now is quite good. Rumor is that RTX 50 mobile series is not going to be much of an improvement, and it is likely a year away from the first RTX 50 series laptops hitting retail.
@@StivianK Newer chipset means the current chipset is now previous gen, this it'll be cheaper and go on sale more often, this is desirable if you are trying to get the best performance for your buck. Check out Jarrod's Tech. He does Laptop Reviews on his channel and in the description of his videos includes a link to Laptop Deals which I believe are updated daily.
I make sure it can be upgraded when needed. I also compare tech specs side by side. The most important thing to consider is the video card, that is what increases the cost, so look at your budget and have a gamer friend help you choose. In my experience Lenovo, Asus, Gigabyte and Acer offer great budget Laptops by reducing quality in other places, like the chassis, display, ports and upgradability. School sale time is the best time to buy. As to which, I would recommend an min 12th gen i5 cpu or the AMD ryzen 7, 16 gb ram, a video card with 6 or more vram. Hope that helps.

I don’t need a new laptop right now as mine is only three years old. Though for a show on gaming laptops we need a pic of Mr. Bear being a keyboard kitty for the warmth. My kitty certainly likes to do that. 🐈⬛😻
I have to disagree on one point. RTX 4080 12GB is definitively no-compromises gaming. It handles basically anything with elegance on 1440/1600p, and even decently with RT in some titles. The little extra you get from 4090 comes at a huge price diff. If you're filthy rich, then yeah, but for mere mortals, no. 4070 isn't worth it compared to 4060 8GB either. Asus Strix G16 and Lenovo Legion 7(i) have actually been reasonably cheap with 4080. Definitely not budget, but okey from $2200
@ Please tell me exactly why I need "AI" in my laptop. I have yet to find a good use case. ChatGPT/Grok/Copilot is running on huge server farms. And I promise you my 4080 laptop will be fine for gaming for another 3-4 of years. You'll have to buy more than 5070 to beat it. I think I will skip this generation. Not worth it and definitely not worth the money. I've had 2080, 3080 and 4080. Don't see the value right now.
I just found a deal on an older model intel nuc x15 with an i7-11th gen plus 3060 gpu for around $650. I think this should be enough for the games that I play.
asus f series usually goes on crazy sale on bestbuy with 4070- 1000usd 4060-800usd, and amd gpu drivers and pain in laptop. Around this time its better to wait new gen laptops with new processor and gpus
I like the TUF models, but right now they aren't as price competitive with the Acer Nitro models (both are budget). But if I see a TUF model deal I will certainly put it in the video description.
I just have one question, why do you recommend laptop's with Intel's 13/14th gen cpu considering everything that is going on with Intel? I seriously doubt they are "unaffected".
So far there is nothing to suggest they are having issues so I am continuing to list them. But there are other options if they make you uncomfortable which is understandable
@@PCBuilderChannel let's agree to disagree, I gave myself the effort to check and I found on couple of sources that the 13th gen 13900HX processor's had the same problem as the desktop/server version. The only reason why 13/14th gen on laptop's have less issues is because of the battery as it can not produce the same amount of power like your desktop power supply can.

Until they figure it out how to lower temperature of Cpu on any laptop they will have nothing.. Is it hard to take out battery which nobody use and instead of that put water cooling inside.
I really do not understand how the industry can still label these GPU cards the same name as the desktop versions with the specs so far apart. How can you compare the LT version of the RTX 4090 with specs the specs above compared to even my MSi Slim RTX 4090 at the specs below 24GB GDDR6X VRAM. 600 W TGP 16,384 CUDA Cores: There is simply no comparison of the two in terms of performance and it really is false advertising. Consumers that do not know any better are thinking they are getting the same specs as the tower models.

Hey Jason, I have a really really serious question over here in Germany I need to know if it makes sense to upgrade my PC from an I5 10400F with 1 ram stick of ddr4 (very slow speed) to a new ddr5 mainboard with an Ryzen 7600 and 32 gigs of ddr5 ram (6000) while keeping my 1660 super for another 5 months in this build until i will buy a new gpu???
I'd agree with Ty. You will experience a big GPU bottleneck but if you replace the GPU soon that's fine. Maybe consider going 7500F if its available where you are to get you GPU faster?
I bought a laptop at the Houston Micro Center (y'all should definitely check out the deals there if you're near one). Just wanted something with a good enough dedicated GPU because I didn't plan in gaming much on it (mostly using it for minor IT school work). Got a Lenovo LOQ with an i5 12450h cpu, an rtx 3050 6gb gpu and 16gbs of ddr5 for $550. If I game on it its mostly gonna be competitive shooters like cs2. But very informative gaming laptop video 🗿👍🏼.
If you're playing games that support HDR or AutoHDR, yes, it can make a very big difference. HDR10 and HDR10+ are display standards (think NTSC), they describe how the data being sent to the display should be formatted so all displays are on the same page with how to communicate with GPUs. HDR400 is a VESA standard that describes the qualities of a monitor's panel. It's the lowest possible HDR grade and provides functionally no real HDR. You shouldn't rely on VESA standards because they are (intentionally) easy to cheat, instead look for high zone count mini LED displays or OLEDs. Rely on independent reviews rather than stickers on the box

I think building a Gaming PC setup and buying a budget laptop will be more affordable and better than buying a Gaming laptop above 2000$.
Agreed I will buy a 1k laptop and invest $1500 on a custom desktop
Finna spend 3,000 plus on the 2023 Asus Scar is a mobile compared to base 4090 much of a difference…should I go desktop??

Idk my alienware has been a tank touching at 2 years and no issue. I do understand the whole cooling fan thing

Was able to snag a Legion Slim 5i 4060 / 7640HS laptop for $600 on a crazy Best Buy open box deal
Maybe price video is coming up as festive times begin🎄
Wow seeing these prices, it makes me feel even better that I bought my laptop on Newegg sale! Acer Nitro 16 with Ryzen 7840HS, 16GB 5600mhz ram, RTX 4070, 1TB SSD, WQHD 165hz screen for 1099$
good timing. I'm in a verge of buying Laptop (only) vs PC (with Steam Deck) because of relocation... time to head back to drawing board...
It's relevant. 3d cache it's the most important tech improve in gaming CPU arquitechture in the last 5 years
I got a Lenovo LOQ with rtx 4050 for $650 and honestly that was the best purchase I’ve ever made in my life
Great video keep doing these as the years go by!
Thanks! Will do!
If a 1k laptop is ultra budget i dont wanna hear no mo 😢
Also please remember 13 gen intel have stability issues, the generation are the 2 first nimbers haveter the model

Interesting post thanks for sharing. I’m currently considering a gaming tablet Vs cheap gaming laptop, so good timing!
Nice videos always 👍
Suprised the HP Omen 16 isn’t here for $1100 you get a nvidia 4070 8 gigs, Intel 14700HX processor, 165hz 1080 screen, 1tb of storage with an extra slot, and 32gb of DDR5 ram.
I’m hoping to get a 4080 on a Black Friday sale, the 4070 not feeling enough for me rn
Just get a TUF and dock it because if you're going to be playing games you will have to plug in after like an hour.
I recommend gaming with laptops plugged in for sure!
Is asus tuf a15 or f15 goods for gaming? Overall is it good?
No need to wonder, desktop builds are always going to be stronger than a laptop due to heat and power . That's just a hard and fast rule. Laptops are valuable if you need portability. Otherwise you are always better off with a desktop pc. But the good news is its a great time to build a pc and its about to be even greater during Prime Day sales next week! Say tuned on the channel we will have lots of great sample build lists coming your way (;

Definitely going to be looking at that Katana.
Later this year, I'm going to buy my first big purchase, a Storm 480 (4080) from Avell, a Brazilian maker. It's going to be quite a strain on my salary for 2 years (less if I can snag the two promotions my job offers in that time-frame), but it will be soooo worth it!

Just wait until Qualcomm's ARM CPUs and AMD's mega APUs start to appear in gaming laptops. It's going to get even crazier.
game suport right now is bottlenecked by Microsoft translation layer of their OS and Games not built with arm architecture in mind. And i just hope prices become more consumer friendly in the future.
Do they have a laptop like that you described
Honestly, I have a 3070 Mobile, and it will run just fine for the next launch till 60 series, their is barely any performance improvements GPU side, in terms of the 60/70 class of Mobile
Any gaming laptop with a rtx 4090 I bet would not make it through airport security
Just don't buy a gaming laptop right now🤷🏻♂️
I think the price to performance right now is quite good. Rumor is that RTX 50 mobile series is not going to be much of an improvement, and it is likely a year away from the first RTX 50 series laptops hitting retail.
@@PCBuilderChannel Yeah I agree but lunar lake and Ryzen ai something is rumoured to come out in the next 3 months and this month.
???) what does that have to do with PC parts... yes they'll come but good luck finding a laptop with that chip set@@DZH.

However if you just want the best performance obviously you should wait until new gen cpu's release. They'll be much more efficient than current gen, that's a guarantee.
which affordable gaming laptop do u recommend to a newbie that doesn’t know what to choose 😭
Jason the sweet spot in gaming laptops are Alder 12th, Rembrandt Ryzen 6000 and Cezanne Rysen 5000 that are mostly Ampere. Yes they are also mostly used BUT that is what the channel has really priced down and has too because they have to sell these used secondary and some overage models off before they can move to truly discount Phoenix Ryzen 7000 and Rembrandt Refresh Ryzen 7000. mb
And Raptor H too, all the best sub $1000 deals r used. Secondary has to go first and the channel is very engaged getting rid of the last gen laptops. m
Absolutely great video and guidance. Thank you!

Good actually
is choosing a 4060 over 4070smarter considering the price difference of 200 to 300 dollars just doesn't justify a 15 percent performance difference
Up to your needs and the current prices!
Is HDR an important feature? If so, should I get HDR10, HDR10+ or HDR400?
