    The most important part of taking care of this engine is the engine oil and filter change.
    In this video I deep dive into the subject and explain why you motor can be damaged if you follow the manufacturer recommendations on oil change intervals and fall prey to ruining you motor early.
    This motor gets a bad name due to extended drain intervals, but they are playing into you having the ease of less maintenance and less oil waste (even though the oil gets recycled). So you go on thinking everything is ok when you are slowly but surely slugging up the motor and going to ruin the very delicate VVT system in this car which relies solely on oil pressure.
    Ill explain what oil and filter to use and how my motor is working just fine with a high number of miles on in when others are completely done for at 150k.
    So sit back and enjoy the video.

    SuperTech is just as good as any high priced oil.

      @markwarnberg9504 most definatly is. Ive used in all my vehicles for years. Only one I dont now is my Toyota Rav4 they need 0W16 which supertech don't make yet. Never had a engine that failed .Some burn oil but not much. Oil Brand is less important than the oil change interval that is the key and in reality most folks i know that side with the supertech are people that change their oil often because they know any company can put a fancy label on the box and sell up liquid piss for all we know lol. Most people i know that use supertech are smart people not cheap in my opinion

    I have the same jug sitting in my car. Everyone always says why do you use cheap oil? Its the same crap. Change it early myself and spend $24 on full synthetic oil changes. Funny thing my friend had a 2009 Traverse around 110k, kept burning oil and he didnt keep it topped off. Engine seized. Sold it for $700, sadly bought if for $7000 year before.

      Yes @tylerc7037 your a smart fella, it just as good its relabeled from warren oil and to be honest if you are just doing normal daily driving Supertech will do it. Only time I would recommend a different oil would be if you do more intense driving Haul, Tow, lots of weight, or race application the supertech oils dont hold up well it those scenarios due to the thermal breakdown/viscosity characteristics of the oil itself. Ill be doing a video soon over Supertech VS Amsoil so stayed tuned to the channel you wont want to miss that one

    I've used super tech oil for many years and many miles. Never had an issue. Frequent oil changes is key to longevity, less than 5,000 miles.

    I used to buy Amsoil but not anymore. I fell for the "100% synthetic" versus the "full synthetic" punch line, but my vehicles are older so I like to do 3k mile intervals. Couldn't justify paying the high price. I like their transmission oils though.

    I did the pcv valve mod and installed a catch can at 30000 mi. which I have to drain every month. I also change oil every 3000 mi. I have owned the car 11 years. So far no problems on my 2012 impala.

    My owner's manual says, "when the change oil soon warning comes on it's time to change the oil." Wrong, wrong, and wrong. I'm having a lot of work done now at 102k miles. There needs to be a class action suit against GM

    • @FixYourCar-Eric
      @FixYourCar-Eric  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @jimdent351 I agree my friend and its why I've made this channel. I've worked both as a mechanic and now and engineer and they use clever language in the owners manual stating you can go 7500-10000kmiles before an oil change. And it's really deceiving to unassuming folks out there. Cuz that oil change interval will get you that about 100-150k miles before major engine issues. So im out here as well as other youtube mechanics trying to spread the TRUTH the auto makers dont want you to know. I have about 170k miles on my 3.6 and its running great. So sorry you were mislead my friend!

      @@FixYourCar-Eric Thanks. I got it back from the dealer and the overall cost wasn't too bad, I guess. For $2800 they changed all the lifters on the one bank, gaskets, bolts, cam gear, and oil change too. I also had a rental rolled into that cost as well. I've only got 102k miles and will be changing my oil every 3k from now on just the way manufacturers used to recommend doing.

    Cool. 5k OCI is key. I have over 221,000 miles on a 2006 Matrix, and it still runs great. Been using Kirkland 5w30 full synthetic for the last 100k and used M1 before that with OEM filter. The Kirkland and Supertech are both made by Warren.

    Question does the 1990-1992 Opel Lotus Carlton suffer from this same issue with the " timing chain " since it also had the 3.6 V6 Twin Turbo set just like the 2013- 2019 Cadillac XTS V 3.6 Twin Turbo setup?

    • @FixYourCar-Eric
      @FixYourCar-Eric  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @samueljackson2478 appears that motor was a inline 6-cylinder engine which was probably a heck of a motor. Inline were some of the best engines ever made. Dont think that one had the timing chain issues were talking about here Variable Valve timing didn't really come around until early mid 2000s. 2008 for alot of GMs. That one most likely had a simple timing chain with a gear on the crank and cam or a timing belt. Much easier to replace or repair those.

      Yes that is a good point ive become aware on as well with the torque convertor GM in general across the models has lots of issues with torque convertor Ive heard through the grapevine its becuse they mostly all lack proper cooling or located too close to super hot exhaust areas which degrades the fluid faster than the change interval. This year suburban and silverados are a good example of that

      Yes they willl they act as a seperator of water molecules and your oil so the oil doesnt break down as easy
