  • In the Cascades beside the Coquihalla River, amid pipelines being built and highway repairs we make a historical discovery. What was covered many years ago has been revealed, but what is it?

What a fascinating woman she was ~ I would so love to read her books ~ You really found a special property there... Awesome video!! 👌It would be cool to make new copies of Mrs. Douglas's books...I'm sure the many would love to read them ~ It would be interesting to learn more about her and why she chose to go there herself..

I really enjoy your channel. I was through your area a few years back and loved it. I started watching your channel when the atmospheric river hit. This episode put me over the top and I went ahead and tracked down the books you recommended. I wound up getting two versions of one book as I later discovered she wrote under a mans name back in the day. I have a stealth camper van and hope to get out your way again someday. I'm from NJ on the shore, no Sunday drive my friend. Love your dog, more clips of him please. Thanks Rob K

I wonder if the box in the creekbank might have been Gilean Douglas' refridgeration system.

I grew up along a creek, and my neighbors used this type of wooden box for keeping lots of sodas and beers cold in the summertime. We also had electric for fridges, just not enough room for the soda and beer, was in the 1960 & 1970's. Loved those ice cold sodas in glass bottles, it tasted better in cold glass.

Our neighbors on west Kodiak Island used that for refrigeration. On another note, my son has retyped a book from the 80’s that was out of print converting it to an e book. We live in Whatcom county.

I'm going to go with they still have a ton of work to get all lanes of the freeway itself repaired that won't be done till the end of the year. A very lightly used exit to a logging road will be down the priority list to be repaired properly.

Cool history of your property, I'll have to try to find those books if my local library has them, the bunker you found was probably a refrigerator/cooler for the lady who wrote the books, frontier houses didn't have electricity like we do today so they had to make do, I bet if you looked hard enough you'll find a outhouse hole lol

    • @als1023
      @als1023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I grew up with the fridge cooler hole in the ground in our camp on Lake Superior. There was a shaft that went down into the sand and a trap door in the floor of the kitchen with a pulley that you could pull the box up with. I doubt that would be in water, so I am thinking out house.

@@als1023 come to think about it, your statement could very well be correct, looking at the size of the box frame, yeah, I think so, though I personally wouldn't have an outhouse that close to the river unless the river had changed course of the years, but it would be a good way to keep the smells down lol

    • @als1023

Normally in an 1800s placer mine shaft, if shored, the planks would be horizontally placed and would be notched together between or on the outside(wall side) of raw hewn timbers. The box could be a cold storage though is a good chance it may be either a privy or well too.

That bunker might be a gold mining adit or drift - perhaps Sowaqua Creek was diverted back in the day so that such a tunnel could be dug into the banks looking for gold. Just a guess.

Good video: the speed of the river water and color, the drop is fast. sound of rushing waters.
makes me think of the word of GOD, a couple of different verses:
Ezekiel 43:2 And, Behold, the glory of the GOD of Israel came from the way of the
east: And HIS Voice was like a noise of many rushing waters; and the earth
    Shine With HIS Glory...
Revelation of Jesus Christ:.. 1:15.. and HIS feet like unto brass, as they burned in a
furnace, And HIS Voice as the Sound of many Waters...
Revelation of Jesus Christ. 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice
of a great multitude, and as the Voice of many waters, and
as the voice of mighty thundering's Say' Alleluia:
For the LORD GOD Omnipotent Reigns..
A small but detailed description of the LORD GOD:
Book of Daniel... 10:6 His Body was like Topaz, HIS Face like the
Appearance of Lightning, HIS Eyes like Flaming Flaming Torches, HIS Arms and Legs Like Gleaming of Burnished Bronze,
and The Sound of HIS Words Like The Sound of a
    Multitude..
That is the Glory of GOD.
