  • A 500 year old fir tree lost! It's a crying shame. Our biggest and probably oldest tree gone in the flood. In this video we show our attempts to rescue fragments of it before the river rises again, which it did only days after. We also mill up some rescued cedar for a friend who makes benches.

Fantastic guys! Dangerous work but the rewards of salvaging the old girl will create a life time of story’s yet to be told around a camp fire with the family! Stay safe as always !👍

Amazing you salvaged what you did - just shows how fortune favours the brave! Hope you show the making of the benches from your wood - that sawmill looks so useful! Perhaps you could demo all it's abilities?! Keep safe up there.

This was so awesome to watch ! Thanks for the videos. Sorry to hear about losing the Tree and land. That Tree was massive! So cool to watch you mill it up as well. FUN FACT: Rope swings are amazing arnt they !?? My home town, born and raised there, is Powell River B.C on the Sunshine Coast....there, we call them a "Zunga" as long as it goes over Water, but basically a Rope Swing is a Zunga. The name "Zunga" Originated in P.R and has since then been added to the Dictionary. Love the Videos and your land. Keep it going, I love your channel ! Cheers and stay safe out there.

Sad that the old Girl fell over but, happy that you guys were at least able to salvage some. Glad that the tree didn't block the river and cause more unneeded erosion to your property! Stay safe!

That is a Big Doug! I always tell people looking to buy land here in Washington: Look for old growth stumps. A tree managed to grow that big and then the stump is still here after the Lowland Puget Sound Logging era (1860-1940), means the land is stable. But next to a river? Your Big Doug grew for 400 years and then the River Gods took it!

Dang, 4 to 5hundred years, shame it came down but you did salvage what you could, last year my brother took down an Ash tree, couldn't tell exactly how many years old as the core was missing/rotted, we counted 150 rings before the hole so 200 plus, it was over 6 feet/2 meters across at 3 feet/1 meter up, unfortunately the Ash bore beetle had killed it, took 4 days to cut it up for firewood, thank God we had a log splitter, those rounds would have been rolling in to the woods otherwise LoL I like your rope swing

A tree that old deserved more dignity than that, in some parts of the world, such as New Zealand, they take old trees like that and put it in museums or use them to make tables or hand carve boats indigenous kayaks seem a shame to the purpose it for lumber. but hey, it's your tree, not up to me to tell you what to do. Maybe if you had asked? but you didn't ask because it's your tree.Kauri is a majestic tree king of the forest pursued and revered by ancient Maori mariners and the European explorers that followed.Kauri is among the world's mightiest trees, growing to over 50 m tall, with trunk girths up to 16 m, and living for over 2000 years.
