I wish people would spend a few seconds showing how the off-set of the first strip works to make sure we get it lined up properly. Otherwise, this was a great video and I was able to accomplish making 10 yards of binding in no time!
There's a few other laboriously long videos that go into how to do this very methodically but I actually like this one as I can pause the video whilst watching and making at the same time.

Even though I watched this video before, I watched again today for a bag project where I need bias binding. I love making my own bias binding. This technique is great because, as Caroline said, there are no wasted odd triangle fabric pieces to add to our scrap bins. You are a great teacher, Caroline!
I did this way back around 1985 for binding a sundress, but they had me make (or maybe I disbelieved and started with an extra huge square, 54 by 54 or something. My God, I had that bias for 20 years, it was about 6 miles!!!! Be careful with this trick!!!

Yay! I love it! It took me a while to understand what you did after drawing the cutting lines, then how you pinned it together was confusing for me..but I worked backwards from the last edges that were pinned and it all worked out fine. Actually, excellently. soooo.. thankyou for teaching me this!! This is now my go-to method!

Great video! I wanted to make fabric napkins, but didn't have enough material to make it double-sided (self-binding). This video was straight to the point. I have twin flat sheets that I wanted to use to make napkins (happily the colours compliment each other nicely). Now I make some bias tape! TY.
Excellent explanation! I've used this method for decades and am surprised that it is not more commonly taught. But you taught me one brilliant trick that makes the whole thing easier and faster - marking the cutting lines before sewing the second seam. Thanks! By the way, for those making masks, you don't need bias ties. Ties cut on the straight grain and folded over - with a bias tape maker, if you have one - work just fine and are easier to make.

I feel like it would be great to remake this at normal speed for us non-superhuman sewers. This is madly too fast and it’s a shame because the end result is fabulous.
Nice. I love the fabric on your ironing board. I’ve been sewing since I was 7. Started with the blind hem stitch by hand then my grandma graduated me to peddle by foot trendle sewing machine. The kind ppl now use tops for a plant stand. Then out came fancy machines. I know have 3 machines including a serger. The thing is if you start to have an interest to sew perfect one thing at a time. I started right off with a collar onto a dress then a maxi coat lined, at age 12. We learned from grandma mom girls club and Nancy notions sewing on saturdays. With out help from tv or net I would hate zippers,thank goodness for videos now for our young viewers or starters out there.Sewing was essential in our home as buying was not in the budget. As a young mom I made my own designs for brides and prom dresses and my kids clothes.Now that my kids are grown I make fun stuff and it’s fn to not have to buy all. Gifts that are well made and unique 1 of Kind are fun.The beauty is now there’s all these nice tools to have like the vidoe has. It’s important to have a mat cutter and rulers for precision. I prefer to roll fabrics on cardboard rolls from fabric stores as not to perm eatery crease fabric which can break down fibers.So to all the young ppl out there tools helps and she showed perfectly how to use measure etc and you save money👍thanks for your videos
This is perfect. I make miles of the stuff from a small piece of about 18 inch square fabric. Ironing took forever. Hopefully next time I'll cut better. THe edges were wonky, but it still works for bias tape. Wish those folder-maker gadgets worked better. I'll have to try starching the fabric and try the home-made version of the folder again.

Just to clarify… 1. On the first cut, you’re looking to make a parallelogram when sewing the 2 pieces together. 2. When she says line this line up with this line, it isn’t very clear what “this” is. You want to line the 1st line at the beginning up to the 2nd line on the end. The second line at the beginning to the 3rd line on the end, and so forth. Overall good tutorial, thank you.🌼

Using your method, with lots of playing back at certain points, I made two long strips for a 5 x 3 quilt I plan to bind tomorrow. I was a lot more confident on that second strip, too. Cheers!

Here’s a tip: don’t use a heat erasable pen to mark your cutting lines!
May I know why ? I was gonna use the heat erasable pen but saw this message .

Thank you. I got 26 3/4 yards out of 40” square making it 2” wide to run through my biggest bias tape folder for what I needed. I needed 6-8 feet.

Just to clarify…
1. On the first cut, you’re looking to make a parallelogram when sewing the 2 pieces together.
2. When she says line this line up with this line, it isn’t very clear what “this” is. You want to line the 1st line at the beginning up to the 2nd line on the end. The second line at the beginning to the 3rd line on the end, and so forth.

Thank you, I'm a beginner working on my second little baby quilt. I butchered the binding on the first one, so I was pretty happy to find your straightforward tutorial. Using your method, with lots of playing back at certain points, I made two long strips for a 5 x 3 quilt I plan to bind tomorrow. I was a lot more confident on that second strip, too. Cheers!
You don't need bias binding for square or straight edged quilts & projects. Bias binding works best on curved shapes. 👍😂👌🙏

Thank you this really works. I've been wanting to do a project using custom bias tape and I've been having nightmares about connecting the 2 pieces. Thank you for this easy-to-understand tutorial. It did not come out perfect, but I'm sure with practice will make it perfect.

I’ve found the best marker to use on fabric is a thin crayola marker or a paper mate ink joy pen

Where were you about 40+ years ago when I was reupholstering an entire set of antique wicker furniture for a friend? (Oh, that’s right-you weren’t even born then!). No TH-cam back in the day, so I just had to read & follow directions. Took me FOREVER to make about a gazillion yards of bias tape, & my back was killing me. Thanks for a great video!
