Whoopee!! I just made my first seam binding!!! I have been afraid of doing this forever! Your instructions are perfect!! So easy to follow! Thank you so much! I really enjoy your videos. You are very thorough and precise and so easy to follow. It is like you are standing right beside me encouraging me on!! Thank you so much!!
I just found this tutorial today. Thank you so much for listing the width to cut the bias for each bias maker. Now I am ready to try the process with a lot more confidence.
I've made it again and realised what happened, I didn't leave one section dangling at the beginning when I pinned. Perfect this time. Thank you so much for your clear videos.x
Thank you for this super helpful video Katrina. I was completely confused by this process, but I should really have gone to you first. You always put so much detail into your videos and it’s very much appreciated. 😊 Thank you again. Now I’m off to use this newly acquired skill xx
I love how you show your mistakes that we should watch for while making our items. Showing how to make so much bias out of a small square is very helpful. I like bias tape for many things--but you have shown how you successfully use bias tape for many applications. Mostly, sewing patterns use a lot of facings, which are a pain and not always better. I also. Really like how you use self bias on a shirttail hem. I make a lot of shirts and this will look much nicer.
I am so happy to see this video. I learned how to do this many years ago and it seemed so easy that I didn’t write it down. Then of corse time went by and I completely forgot how to do it😂. Thanks!
Absolutely wonderful. I remember my mother showing us how to cut the continuous bias strips, but she didn't have the tool. I remember her just sewing one edge onto the garment, folding it with her fingers, and sewing the other edge onto the garment. Your garments are beautiful. I'm trying to get back to sewing after a long time not sewing, so I'm in awe of your talent. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Lynn
Without the tool it can be done in easy to press fabrics but it’s just slower. The tool is cost effective and so useful. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
I had my memory jogged in this video. I had completely forgotten how to do this. I like your “thriftiness” of making bias tape out of leftovers and used clothing. Thanks so much!
Hi Karina, Sorry I haven't been commenting as much. I am not well. This tutorial was brilliant!!! Just wonderful thank you! I'm a quilter and this is a great way to get a lot of bias binding if I need it. I also wanted to mention for assistance with ironing see if you can't find a Tailor's Clapper. It is wood that helps your fabric to become extremely flat. After you iron, you put the Clapper on the fabric it absorbs the heat leaving it really flat. Helps a great deal when making bias tape for e.g.
Thank you! I’ve made bias tape before and I still found your video useful. The tip on matching the lines at the seam allowance is my favourite. I went and made myself a parallelogram (the shape worked well with the scraps I have) and saved myself one seam :D
The smaller bias tape sizes, 6 mm or 12 mm, are good for making fabric ties, instead of fiddling with rouleau loops. Nancy Zieman, a USA sewist on public television, suggested using a straight pin to guide the fabric through the tape maker, but whatever works for you! THANK YOU for such an informative video.
I’m glad you liked it. Yep, I’ve used a needle to push it through too and the stiffer fabrics go in without help. Great tips for the little ties. Thanks 😊
Thank you Karina! I'm now able to make some great looking bias binding for my Rhapsody dress. I'll continue to use this method for years and projects to come. Wonderful video. Thank you for all that you do.
I started making my own bias tape. I became addicted to making it. Like you mentioned you can make so much. Thank you for sharing and really great video!
Thanks, Karina! I've just bought the 18 and 25mm bias tape makers and I even thought you could make a tutorial about it, since you use it a lot. And today this... perfect timing!
It’s a personal satisfaction thing because really no one will inspect the inside. I don’t finish all my projects this way but when I do I’m happy. Thanks for watching 😊.
Hi Karina. You’re so inspirational! I’ve got all the gear but have never used it, so tomorrow I’m going to have a go. You make it all look so easy to do. Brilliant!🤗
I looked for the gear for years and years and only ever made tiny amounts by hand and with cotton. Not the possibilities are endless and it’s silly how these little gadgets make all the difference.
You have included every little detail we might need to make our own bias binding. Thank you ! This video is one of the most useful ones I have ever seen. I keep coming back to this video to remember the process. And I resist the temptation to buy from the store because ı want to use my scraps for the bias binding. I love using scraps and using up every little piece of my fabric !
Karina, I have tried using this method before and my lines did not match up no matter how hard I tried. I don't know exactly what I did wrong, but still managed to make a usable tape. This tutorial is great & I will try again! Thanks so much for sharing as always.Take care & God Bless.
It’s considering the seam allowance to match them that makes the difference. I’ve made so much that I’ve got the technique down and as with all sewing it’s all practice :)
Loved your instructions and inspiration what to use bias tape for. I can see myself just buying fabric and using left over fabric purely for bias tape. Thank you ❤️
Your vlog prompted me to make bias binding from the brushed cotton fabric I've used to make a dress for my granddaugter. It worked beautifully making a lovely and soft neckline. Thank you vkr yet another brilliant vlog.
That's a very helpful tutorial. I've admired how you use the bias tapes on your projects and will keep this in mind. The contrasting tapes you use are super cute ! The store bought bias tapes have never appealed because they're so stiff.
I enjoyed watching your video, and I am a happy, new subscriber. I made my very first continuous bias tape last summer. I wish I had found your tutorial back then. My bias tapes turned out wonderfully, but it took me time to research various tutorials before I found one that actually made sense to me . Your garments are absolutely lovely and you are someone I can relate to since I am one who cares about aesthetics and I love the idea you had about using a lighter weight fabric when encasing a seam in a garment that has a main fabric of a denser weight. That makes perfect sense, but then...you are perfect! Thanks for sharing.
thank you so much 😊. I do put a lot of thought into how to finish my garments. I love them to be unique and the highest quality possible, as well as being pretty. I see it as an art form. I hope you enjoy the channel.
Love the idea of using unwanted sleeves to make the bias to edge the new armholes, ingenious. Also fascinated by your system of making bias in the round, will have to give that a go, and also a way of using up biggish scraps/leftovers, thanks!
I am trying to make bias binding on mostly rayon fabric😵💫 I should have heavily starched entire piece(maybe even used light stabilizer???) before beginning the entire process. I think it would have stopped the stretching that occurred even when drawing the lines in addition to the stretching when trying to pin the “wonky” edges together…. Live and learn😂 Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks for this video. I usually cut strips and sew each one together because I can never remember the continuous way. I'm going to give this a try. I also love your idea for making binding from an old shirt. I never thought of making binding out of fabrics other than cotton.
I sometimes make three strips and sew 2 little seams. If I need a small amount only. That’s ok too. I do make a lot when I have a nice square left over. It’s fun. Thanks for watching 😊.
Great video, Karina. I havent seen anyone else fold over the fabric in that way before, I shall have to give that a try. My bias maker kit *should* be arriving today, fingers crossed!
Great topic. Love to hear about repurposing fabric for binding. Very clever idea when so much goes to landfill. You often comment about using less fabric so very practical information thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial! I just started sewing and I love how you have to learn so many different skills. I'm actually excited to make my own biastape now, haha. Lets see if I'm still excited when I make a mistake halfway through ;)
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have those tape makers, but rarely use them as there is a plethora of different tapes and fold over elastics to purchase here in the states. They are super handy to have, though.
I can imagine all the variety you have there. I unfortunately don’t and need to adapt and making it from the same fabric is pretty. By now it takes no time and I actually enjoy it he he. Thanks for watching 😊.
Thank you! I have wanted to make my own bias tape for a while but always thought I would screw it up. This is such a simple way to do it and a great way to use all those scraps and smaller cuts of fabric that I don't know what to do with. This also gives me another project that I can do at work.
Very nice and thank you for sharing! I don't make my own because it is a slow process but I plan on bookmarking this video for those special occasions! I do have those bias tape making tools too! Thanks again!
The inside of your clothes are just as beautiful as the outside!! Have you seen the gypsy gripper? It has two suction cups on it to grip a clear wide ruler and it helps to hold your fabric while you use the ruler as a guide and use your rotary cutter.
This video I found so very useful ... and so it has inspired me to make my own. Loved all of your makes using all of your own hand made biases, as you’ve have said so mush better than bought ones. 👍👍👍
So useful again - thanks Karina. I love making my own bias tape, but have been painstakingly sewing together lots of mini-seams to create the length 😳 Won't be doing that any more, I'll just go to your tutorial and do it.
If you put the tube over the ironing board with a cutting mat on it you can use a rotary cutter. Much faster. Great instructor.
My cutting mat is too huge. I don’t have a small one.
Thank you 🙏 SOO MUCH! Yours is the BEST tutorial on this! ❤
The best continuous bias tape tutorial I have seen…..you are a great instructor.
Glad it was helpful!
Now I know how wide my bias strips should be depending on the bias tape maker. Just double it. Thanks so much!
Great eh👍
you are a wonderful teacher! I am 70 and I still learn a lot from you and then I can teach my daughters and granddaughters. Thank you so much.
Super tip with the starch spray, I never thought of that!!! It’s a total game changer!!! Thanks for the video ♥️👍
I enjoy your tutorial on continuous basis binding, Thanks much for your tutorial
You’re very welcome 😉
ThankYou, I feel confident that I can make my bias tape. I have struggled for years! I love hearing bird singing in the background, how wonderful 🇨🇦
@@dancetoday542 I’m glad it worked out. It’s seems not logical at the beginning.
This was brilliant! I love, love your method for bias tape and all of the creative uses for bias tape! Thank you!
Thank you for an incredibly detailed tutorial. So clear and very helpful. ❤️
Thank you for this super helpful video Katrina. I was completely confused by this process, but I should really have gone to you first. You always put so much detail into your videos and it’s very much appreciated. 😊 Thank you again. Now I’m off to use this newly acquired skill xx

Brilliant tutorial and lots of useful information and tips too. Thanks for sharing this!
Thank you for this "refresher" on continuous bias strips. Your application ideas are also very ingenious and creative.
I am so happy to see this video. I learned how to do this many years ago and it seemed so easy that I didn’t write it down. Then of corse time went by and I completely forgot how to do it😂. Thanks!

I can see this being something that is easy to forget if not done for a while. I think this is fun :)
You always have great tips & tricks. Thank you & keep them coming
You’re very welcome 😉

Really clear instructions...best bias tape tutorial
thanks for this very useful tutorial. I use it often. Your Instructions , as usual are nice and clear. Kathryn

I have been using this technique since 1977 - a game changer! Thanks for sharing.
You are a very good teacher. Clear and concise, with visuals. Thank you so much. I subscribed immediately! You also have a kind voice.
Thankyou for such detailed explanation. It was helpful to understand.
Thank you Karina! I'm now able to make some great looking bias binding for my Rhapsody dress. I'll continue to use this method for years and projects to come. Wonderful video. Thank you for all that you do.
Once you do it a few times, it gets faster to do 😀😀
Thank you for a great tutorial. I just bought the devices to make the bias tape and now I know how to use them.
You’ll love making it!
I started making my own bias tape. I became addicted to making it. Like you mentioned you can make so much. Thank you for sharing and really great video!
Yes the addiction is real! I have a bag of pretty scraps just for that :)
Thanks, Karina! I've just bought the 18 and 25mm bias tape makers and I even thought you could make a tutorial about it, since you use it a lot. And today this... perfect timing!
Thanks for the bit at the end where you talk through how you use bias binding.
Karina, I just love your videos. You are so inspirational and your garments are beautiful! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.♥
I am going to make more of an effort to finish my garments to the high standards you do. Great video.
It’s a personal satisfaction thing because really no one will inspect the inside. I don’t finish all my projects this way but when I do I’m happy. Thanks for watching 😊.
Ooooo! I made my first bias tape today, I'm so proud. It was a lot easier than I thought and kinda relaxing. Thanks for the tutorial
That was so helpful and I will certainly start making some. Thank you for such great instructions. I always enjoy your videos.
It’s something you could get used to. The look and feel of the one we make is just so much nicer.
I love all the bias tape you made. You are so good at sewing and inspire me to sew more. I love watching you videos☺🌼
Thank you so much 😊
Just had reason to find out how to make bias tape. As usual , brilliant and clear instruction. Thank you xx😊

Excellent.. I have the gear but was intimidated.. you have so clearly explained how to do this.. I will go along with you Karina.
Thank you!
This is so helpful. Everything you teach is clear and concise. Thank you for your great work
I’m glad you liked the video!
Karina, I have tried using this method before and my lines did not match up no matter how hard I tried. I don't know exactly what I did wrong, but still managed to make a usable tape. This tutorial is great & I will try again! Thanks so much for sharing as always.Take care & God Bless.

Loved your instructions and inspiration what to use bias tape for. I can see myself just buying fabric and using left over fabric purely for bias tape. Thank you ❤️
I love this. I'm making bias tape too. Nice hack to store the tape. I'll store it that way from now on. Thank you!
It’s too fun and good use of scraps
Thanks for watching 😊.
Your vlog prompted me to make bias binding from the brushed cotton fabric I've used to make a dress for my granddaugter. It worked beautifully making a lovely and soft neckline. Thank you vkr yet another brilliant vlog.
How cool! I’m glad it worked well for you. This is addictive :)
Thank you for this tutorial, I love continuous binding
Your instructions are very clear. I struggle to make bias tape so really appreciate this vlog.

Hi from England. Another enjoyable and informative video. I will save this for future use. Thank you for doing these videos.
I’m so glad you liked it. It’ll come in handy when you decide to make some. It’s actually super fun.
That's a very helpful tutorial. I've admired how you use the bias tapes on your projects and will keep this in mind. The contrasting tapes you use are super cute ! The store bought bias tapes have never appealed because they're so stiff.
I’ve found soft one in Bolivia but not here in Brazil. The one I make is so much nicer. It’s worth it :)
Thanks for watching 😊.
Did this today for sleeveless rhapsody blouse fantastic and used your machine gathering tip which worked a dream Thank you 🙏
That’s a great technique to reduce the bulk. I’m going to try it on my next project.
I’m glad you liked it :)

Lifting Pins and Needles Yes! I am enjoying all, and it will take a while to see every one, but I love binging, yes!!!!
Love the idea of using unwanted sleeves to make the bias to edge the new armholes, ingenious. Also fascinated by your system of making bias in the round, will have to give that a go, and also a way of using up biggish scraps/leftovers, thanks!

Your’re the best! I want you to know I’ve been to Brazil twice and I plan to make a trip there at least once a year ❤

I swear I have learned so much with her
Thank you so much! You made it so easy to understand. I really enjoyed watching your video.

I've never seen this method before! thank you!
That was so useful never seen it done like that before, you are a fantastic ‘teacher’.
Your seam finishes are so beautifully done!
Thank you so much 😊. I put my all into my projects.

Very informative and easy to understand. Beautiful sewing.

Super useful tutorial and beautifully explained. Many thanks Karina.
This was so helpful and explained so well. Thank you!
Beautiful Karina! I just found you and subscribed! You are so clever! I’m learning so much from your tutorials. Thank you. 👍🏽💕
Thank you! I have wanted to make my own bias tape for a while but always thought I would screw it up. This is such a simple way to do it and a great way to use all those scraps and smaller cuts of fabric that I don't know what to do with. This also gives me another project that I can do at work.
Thank you so much for the inspiring video!!!!😊
Thank you for this tutorial! I did this recently and had trouble lining up the lines. I was not pinning in 1/4"! Now I know what I did wrong!
I’m glad this helped :)
Very nice and thank you for sharing! I don't make my own because it is a slow process but I plan on bookmarking this video for those special occasions! I do have those bias tape making tools too! Thanks again!
You can mAke a little for a neckline and it’s a start. I’ve gotten used to the feel and look of the one I make and it’s hard to not make some now 😄
Great video! Can’t wait to try cutting bias tape that way. Thanks sooo much for sharing, you are such an inspiration!!😍😍😍
Thank you so much. I’m glad you liked it. It really is so satisfying to have the pretty stuff in nicer fabric.
Every video that I have watched of yours is positively amazing!😀 Thank you for sharing your makes, and your knowledge, you are such an inspiration!💖
The inside of your clothes are just as beautiful as the outside!!
Have you seen the gypsy gripper? It has two suction cups on it to grip a clear wide ruler and it helps to hold your fabric while you use the ruler as a guide and use your rotary cutter.
No I haven’t. I live in Brasil and can only access local supplies. Novelty things…. I can’t get them.
This video I found so very useful ... and so it has inspired me to make my own. Loved all of your makes using all of your own hand made biases, as you’ve have said so mush better than bought ones. 👍👍👍
What an awesome video. I learned a lot. Thank you.
Can't wait to try this myself. Thanks for sharing once again!
Thank you... I just purchase a kit to make bias tape. Your instruction will definitely help me
Have fun!
great video Karina, very useful,
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it.
So useful again - thanks Karina. I love making my own bias tape, but have been painstakingly sewing together lots of mini-seams to create the length 😳 Won't be doing that any more, I'll just go to your tutorial and do it.
Hi Karina, Thank you, this is a great technique to save.
I’m glad you liked it. I can’t stop making tape because it’s so pretty.
