Lionel ran everyone out of the studio so he would feel more comfortable learning. That's a true producer. Stevie coached and Quincy coached. I mean, how awesome! Bob Dylan is a legend, and the have sense enough to know it.
Bob Dylan being Bob Dylan. We're lucky to see it in real time and I'll be honest, I appreciate seeing his insecurities among the world's top singers from that era. He's surrounded by encouraging artists, that's great to see.
If I sounded that bad, I'd be insecure too. Someone early on in life should have pulled him to the side & said "Bobby, maybe you should give up on singing & focus your attention on something more pleasing to the ears." May I suggest doily making. Song writing is a lost art I think you could excell in. But, please, under no circumstance should you ever come within 10 ft of a microphone. You become connected to your own stuff a lot easier especially with how you unconsciously make it work for your voice. He’s trying to visualise and translate words on a page to performance it’s harder than you’d think.
Man Dylan has a distinct voice, see so many comments here bad about him, but this is the reason why he has been known for music for decades while most artist only last for 2-5 years. His timing when he sings is also very unique- a true star!
He is a bard, he is not a singer and he knows who he really is; vulnerable and down to earth. To me, his insecurity and honesty deserve nothing but respect. And a quick note about the legends around him; it's amazing to see how supportive and respectful they are. Quincy: You are "The Producer"!!
Bob Dylan is a legend. I love how Quincy and Lionel give him encouragement. Bob has let's say a unique voice and him even being there to contribute is huge and everyone knows it. This is an all star cast to the max!!
I've loved the guy as well since 1964 or so and it's true, at least from the many things I've read about him, that he is in fact shy in certain ways but as for humility... I don't think so. He doesn't seem to be full of himself but he's certainly not humble. He has an extremely and determined personality and has most of his career been very focused in what he does and doesn't let anyone stop him.
He and my mom and all my older cousins went to school together........in Hibbing.........and he is humble.....in the way that he does NOT take credit for his work.......he admits it comes from that "wellspring of creativity"...that he does not own......he's a vessel......nothing more. His "arrogance" comes from people putting labels on him that he can't comprehend......and feels like a fraud......xo
Yeah, he shouldn't have to struggle to remember the lyrics, considering how his own lyrics are among the most complicated out there (on a side note, I feel like my brain consists of 15% Dylan lyrics, I can recite plenty of them), but in the official video for this song many of the artists are looking at a sheet of paper, so it looks like they also struggled to remember the lyrics.
Clearly you never recorded a song while listening to it for the first time. Trust me, it's really hard to remember everything and sing at the same time...

I'm not much of a Dylan fan but I will say that he seemed to be focused on the real meaning of the song and that's what comes out in his singing. Yes, it was also nice to see the encouragement he received from the others.
I am an Indian born in 2003. It was in around 2010, when I heard this song and I thought to myself, "Who is this weird guy? He seems out of place". That was my introduction to Dylan. I've now heard everything he has ever made and I'm thankful to MJ because he is the one who led me to this blessing!

Ha ha! It's funny how when Stevie Wonder was coaching Bob Dylan on how to sing the part, he sounded just like Dylan. Wonder was teaching Dylan how to sing the part like Dylan.
I observed that in the final voice record they used the first part at 6:11 to 6:14 and they connected it at 3:25 to 3:34. They only change the voice where he pronounced " better di" into the part where he pronounced it "better days". Bob Dylan have a unique style of singing.

Same with Cindy Lauper but you still see a ton of ppl talking shit on her..
I’m sorry and I know that honest minds differ, but I think your affinity for Bob Dylan, understandable as it is, is biasing your judgment here. There’s just no respectful way to say it: he sounds horrible on this song and his voice is discernibly and noticeably of a lesser quality than literally every single other singer.
@@bredenis5 some people just prefer imperfect voices. I think he sounds awesome with his unique phrasing and adds just as much to the song as the others!
@@al1976-v7m i’m really trying to appreciate your point of view and I’m not necessarily disagreeing but kind of thinking in my mind would somebody say the same thing about somebody who was playing an instrument poorly? I don’t know that there would be any type of affinity for or appreciation of somebody playing something off key and chalk it up to their nuanced style.
@@bredenis5good point but think of the punk movement or bands like pavement. They made a pretty good living out of playing their instruments rather poorly and even off-key! Or the way Josh Homme alters his scales to give QOTSA songs their unique vibe. Or Tom Waits' junkyard percussion... there are many examples in music where going against the grain can produce something very interesting and unique. Yes it may be an aquired taste and not for everyone - but there's nothing i find more bland and boring than casting shows looking for the "perfect" voice...

Huge respect for Dylan as someone not renowned for his amazing vocals to throw himself into this and stick with it. He was there all night and got the job done.

Poor Stevie...
Bob Dylan being Bob Dylan. We're lucky to see it in real time and I'll be honest, I appreciate seeing his insecurities among the world's top singers from that era. He's surrounded by encouraging artists, that's great to see.
They understand each other's style and know what it's like to be in that position.
And yet when you hear the finished product everything just sits perfectly. Bob being included in this ensemble was the right idea after all. His voice in Girl from The North Country was heavenly ✨
That's like saying that fat white lady calling black people niggars while she's on TV cooking biscuits and waffles sounds "heavenly".
Dylan has his own voice. He's not recognized as a singer par excellence, but right from the first time I heard this song, his solo lifted the whole thing higher than any of the others before him. Dylan and then Ray Charles: magic.
My favorite parts too. People dog Dylan but I've come to love the guy.
Stevie & Bruce was my favourite part

Props to Bob. He was so out of his comfort zone and he did it anyway. And masterful producing by Q; smooth, encouraging and positive, even when Bob was floundering. And to have Stevie be your accompanist while you’re learning your part. Not bad at all.
Bob Dylan has written so many lyrics that he remembers at his shows. He can't take his eyes off the paper for two lines.
You become connected to your own stuff a lot easier especially with how you unconsciously make it work for your voice. He’s trying to visualise and translate words on a page to performance it’s harder than you’d think.

The shyness.......and humility of this man is so moving.......I'm sure he (like Prince) thought the song was crap.......but he was there. I adore him.

@Jason Voorhees lmfao!
I think it's just a habit after a while. I did the same thing in choir, yet next period I was singing the whole song in my head.
