      Hi Andrew watched a little on TV when searching Samsung Tablets...Had T1 Diabetes for 56 years. I eat a low-carb diet & monitor my blood sugar levels with a Dexcom G6 sensor linked with xdrip+ to my TicWatch Pro. My A1c (average glucose) is 5% that is normal. Relevance is I can monitor blood-sugar levels without blood (!) according to what I eat. Carbohydrates use insulin to create sugar so if you need to watch that this system may help. You can get lowcarb lotsathings. Best wishes, Roger, retired in France with our beautiful Westfalia Jules Verne. 🤩

    Wow, similar to my story. I watched a documentary on sugar then I researched the sugar conspiracy. I discovered we are ingesting 20x or more of the sugar we should. I discovered refined sugar is more addictive than cocaine and is the root of the obesity crisis. I went completely sugar free. In a week the results were astonishing. Energy levels returned I even looked younger. Since then I dropped over 100lbs despite still eating burgers! I just avoided the ketchup as its 30% sugar. Now I'm at the gym 4x a week and feel amazing. I'm rarely ill. Oh and all my skin issues healed in my first couple of weeks that had plagued me all my life. Sugar is a highly potent drug that people are addicted too. All our food had the fats taken out and sugar added yet some of the good fats are essential. I cannot express the difference it made to my life. Sugar has even be linked to stokes and heart disease. Oh and I agree artificial sweeteners are a no no as they have lots of side effects. It is very hard to give up sugar even so called healthy foods are loaded with it. Great video Andrew!

      Fantastic story! It is indeed quite profound the difference it makes. Reading your comment made me realise I still have some way to go (ketchup!) but concur with how much better I FEEL since massively cutting down on the added sugar. Cheers!

      @@AbdulAbulbulAmir Oh yes I know many people with arthritis too for whom it affects badly. If more people came off sugar it would help the NHS enormously. To escape it though you have to see it as a drug addiction rather than a dietary change. Many I know need to come off it but struggle with the addiction. Maybe the Doctors should treat it like an addiction?

    If I may be so bold as to suggest Dr. Sten Ekberg. He is incredible. I have lost forty pounds listening to him and following his suggestions. I have two children who suffer with migraines. It is so horrible for them. I make suggestions but you know the old saying you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. As a retired teacher, I am always looking for creditable people to listen to and possibly try some of their suggestions. Dr. Sten is good.

    Within the last few days I have started my own 'sugar' free diet, and was shocked to see how much sugar there was in the everyday items I was using, like mayonaise, and have switched to more fresh vegetables, and fresh fruit based porridge instead of cakes. I am a long time vegetarian for moral reasons, not so much health, but after watching your video I shall do more to challenge myself to cutting more sugar from my diet. Thank you for such an informative video.

    Dear Andrew, thank you. you completed this video in the hope that it would help other migraine sufferers and you have really helped me. I too have found over 20 yrs of migraine other than cheese chocolate ,alcohol and orange that sugar gives me a migraine. I now never eat sugar .I now feel not alone in not being able to eat sugar which really comforts me as i always thought i was crazy . I now can go 2 weeks without a migraine. I used to think that a migraine was my natural state . One can never plan to see friends as one never knows when one will occur. Life is now much better . Thank you for uploading this video.

    Andrew, you are just one of these lovely people in life that we need so much at the moment. So glad I found your site. I don't suffer from migraine but I have recently found that cutting out bread makes a MASSIVE difference to my well being. Such a simple thing. We are all different and need different fuel, like diesel/petrol/electric cars. It seems so obvious and yet it's not talked about....very odd...and as for dancing, you just jig about as you want...lucky nobody can see me singing and dancing after a few whiskies!!!

    • @andrewjditton
      @andrewjditton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES! This is why I don't bang on that a plant-based diet is right for everyone. It's right for me, but I get so narked when people say that THEIR diet is right for everyone. Keep on jigging...:)

      There is something in the shops called 'Bread', that is not actually bread. The sliced stuff in plastic, that goes mouldy is not real bread, it is a whipped wheat foam created using the 'Chorleywood method', which is worse for your body then cardboard.
      If you want to try real bread (bread that goes hard when it ages), then go to a baker who uses yeast and allows it to rise. Some Tesco in-store bakeries make it too. The fermentation process during the rise has a dramatic effect on the edibility. The best is sourdough organic wholemeal, but also home-made organic wholewheat is in a different league, and suitable for most people who react badly to the fake bread.

    • @azzytwoz
      @azzytwoz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@G-ra-ha-m Hello Graham, Thank you so much for your comments. I agree with all you said and haven't eaten 'plastic' bread for a long long time. I've bought real bread, including sourdough/organic wholemeal etc, from some excellent local bakers. The trouble is it was SO tasty that I was having too much. It's the carbs that causes me the problem so I've also cut potatoes, rice, pasta, biscuits and more, but get enough carbs from fresh vegetables and salad, and feel much better. Thank you for thinking of me. Tony

I was under enormous stress at the time My eyesight started to fail and an optician sent me to my GP for a blood test the result was I was type 2 diabetic I was not over weight relatively fit but the discipline of management for the condition was a life safer. 3 years on I have never had one since so I can understand entirely thank you mate for another awesome video keep it going. So glad to hear you are feeling well and well done on taking all of those difficult steps to get there. Migraines are awful - I only ever have them associated with nerve pain due to a shingles attack to my eye. It's awful when it hits you during life events (a brilliant trip to NYC where I had to draw the curtains on the Empire State Building!). Healthwise it's a very interesting podcast. I hope I can be as successful as you in changing my diet/exercise to help with high blood pressure. As individuals/patients, it really is the way forward - to take control and take action. Andrew & Dougal you are such fantastic dancers 👯‍♀️!! Thank you Andrew for your talk on the link between sugar & migraines. My teenage son used to suffer terribly & I noticed a link between his ‘bad eating’ days and migraine incidents. Sugar also triggers an inflammatory response too & research suggests it feeds cancers. Andrew, thank you so very much for sharing your life-long battle with migraines. I am a former migraineur and experienced my first migraine at the age of 17. It was only after having a hysterectomy in 2011 at the age of 60 that my migraines pretty much disappeared. In total, I suffered between 20 - 25 days out of every month for 43 years with migraines. In looking back, I don't know how I was able to survive the intense pain. Light and noise sensitivity, nausea, and whole-body exhaustion were just a few of the many horrific symptoms I experienced over the course of those 43 years. I tried every migraine medication that was available during those years, and the only one that made a difference was Imitrex injections, but the side-effect of those injections were heart palpitations. Now in 2020, there are many more treatments available, as well as some promising devices that are showing promising signs for pain relief. That said, your dedicated efforts over the years to discover what causes your migraines is incredibly important in helping other migraine sufferers, so I thank you for this vitally important video. Thank you also for sharing all of your road adventures with us. You live in such a beautiful and peaceful area of the world, and I hope one day to visit some of the gorgeous places you have shared in your enjoyable videos. By the way, your precious little Dougall lifts my spirits every time I see him in your videos. Stay safe and in good health, ☺☺☺

They can be slight or as worse as loosing sight on the right eye, teeth aching on the right half of the head as well as the right eye hanging down. These trigeminus attacks are as worse as a migraine so I definitely know what you are talking about. After my histamine intolerance was discovered, the attacks lessened more and more. I’m so pleased you’ve found something that is helping you Andrew. Presumably you know all about using low GI (glycemic index) foods to stabilise your blood sugar levels, as you mentioned the beans on wholemeal bread. Adding vinegar to your diet (pickled foods or adding a splash of apple cider vinegar to your glass of water) helps keep sugar levels down as do certain spices like cinnamon, ginger and turmeric. Stay well and keep up the dad dancing!

    Amen to all you said about food and poor health. They can be directly related in some of us folks who are “food sensitive”. A good nutritionist helped me find relief from arthritis pain and depression many years ago. Sticking to my diet of “safe foods” is annoying but pays enormous dividends in the good health I enjoy each day in my mid-70s! Bless you, Andrew, for raising awareness!

    Hi Andrew! Very happy about your discovery after so many years of suffering. Though I don’t have chronic pain, I was diagnosed as a Type II diabetic. I didn’t just cut sugar sources from my diet, I cut carbohydrates in general. As you know, your body processes all carbohydrates into glucose. By doing this for a year, my blood results show I’m no longer diabetic. My goal each day is not to eat over 25g of carbs. As a long time viewer of your channel, I would love for you to look into a Keto diet, not as a temporary way of eating, but what could be your normal day to day way of eating for the future. I’m happy to see you feeling better!

    5 years ago I had my first migraine at 67. It was preceded by what really alarmed me a scintillating aura. Then they became common place occurring every 2 weeks. Severe head pain and nausea lasting 36 hours. I then always got the aura and 4/5 hours later the migraine, at least I had a warning. Nothing could I find on the net about diet related to me. This went on for the next 3 years and sometimes 2 in a week. Then by chance I saw a health article relating to something else I was researching to control blood sugar and hypertension. Many people do not consume enough magnesium through diet, but with low levels this can cause a neurological imbalance. If you suffer with migraines these can be relieved taking a magnesium supplement like an easily absorbed one like elemental glycinate. I order some capsules with the hope they might help. Wow the effect was so amazing. The timings became longer like one every 3 weeks and not so severe. I take a low dose everyday since and now maybe one a month ( I have kept a record from day one so no guesswork) and now often an aura with no migraine to follow and if there is one, the mild pain is just an hour. But magnesium works in another way. It helps the body absorb calcium so as you get older it adds to bone density. On a different note, I will not take regular drugs only herbal supplements. 2 years ago as said my fasting blood sugar was on the border of prediabetes and blood pressure 137/65. Then I started taking a low dose of Berberine and it has controlled both problems. Now my fasting blood sugar is 5mmol and BP 125/65. And I still eat cakes, shortbread and chocolate. After now reading through the other replies sugar seems to be the main culprit. But taking sugar in excess that the body can use is bad. But in moderation allowing the insulin to break it down is OK. But excess sugar will get into the blood and high levels will cause countless problems. In our life time there are 2 silent killers, high blood sugar and high blood pressure. I have no sugar in my home because I don't need it. But eating regular foods even if they have some sugar does not affect me now at all thanks to Berberine. For those who are interested as there is no guesswork in my findings I have had a BP and blood sugar monitor at home to use at will. Now 2 years ago I quit eating all red meat and chicken. I only eat sea fish, eggs and cheddar. Leave the saturated fat at home.

      Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. Yes, I take a magnesium, B12, and calcium supplement daily. My Mum takes magnesium too, and she stopped after being two years migraine-free. The migraines came back so she went back on it. Glad you have your health back too. All the best.

    Andrew, it took a heart attack for me to discover the evil of sugar. No one could explain why the heart attack occurred as I was fit, perfect blood pressure, mediterranean diet etc! Then I discovered Ivor Cummins channel on tube. Every question answered. As an unknowing sugar addict it was slowly killing me. 12 months later, low carb/no sugar diet and everything has changed. For me personally its been amazing. I have no other words to describe the change.

    Very interesting video and fantastic that it seems to be working for you. Can't say I have ever suffered with migraine except for occasionally getting aural migraine which tends to pass in 40 minutes with no resulting pain and I can only imagine how debilitating it must be. Our modern diets have a lot to answer for, and the simpler the diet the better, as you have demonstrated. It can be just too easy to reach for those convenient snacks, and I am certainly guilty of that. Looking forward to watching your future 'what I eat in a day' videos.

    *Wonderful* news for you, so delighted. As a diabetic I recognise so much of what you say - accidentally eating something that spiked my blood sugar when I thought I would be OK, and then getting the dry mouth, thick head, feeling bluuuurgh for the rest of the day. Well done for making this video and hope it reaches loads, and loads of people and makes a difference. I find stevia-based sweeteners have no aftertaste (Truvia works for me). Also, be careful of bread, rice, pasta - the body metabolises them directly into glucose. If it ends is “- - ose” it’s sugar 😔

      @andrewjditton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Ditton. A large tub of Truvia lasts me 2 - 2.5 months (just in coffee). £5.00 full price but regularly half that when on offer (Morrisons). Very long shelf-life, I ‘may’ have stocked up when it was on sale! I can’t say what it is like for cooking . . .

    • @BagEndGarden
      @BagEndGarden 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thought - be careful of certain fruit - for example grapes are really, really high in sugar, and when dried (sultanas - mmm, yummy) the sugar is even more concentrated. A quick Google for “carbohydrate in [food item] “ will be your friend on this journey and may well surprise you. Depressingly, anything with wheat/flour will metabolise to glucose. Ryvita may become your friend 🙂

    Good video. I can so relate to this and have dealt with several health issues including migraine. Artificial preservatives and food coloring and gluten sensitivity can also trigger migraines. Everyone is different. I've kept a food journal to determine my triggers. Over several decades and much searching, I now know that many health issues are food related. I strive never go back to my former dietary habits. When I backslide I regret it. The momentary pleasures of certain foods/drink are really not worth the suffering. Hi Andrew , very interesting find glad it's working for you, i to have been a long time sufferer like yourself,
    since my late teens i would wake with one every sunday morning after a night out with friends with or without alcohol intake ,
    i would say they started to tail off and be milder from about my mid 40s , (i am 62 now) and very pleased they have.
    Over the years i have tried many things like your to no effect, i feel for me it's triggered by my emotional state rather than any
    food or sugar intake , have no idea why they are becoming milder and less frequent but very pleased they are.
    Great videos i look forward to your next one, just a word on the dad dancing ..... it was bearable for awhile , maybe a tad too long though
