a couple tips that were not covered in the video: Down B has good use in the air, if you use it as you are landing it can true combo kill confirm at high %. Cargo throw up throw can true combo into up air at very low %, be aware that some of the combos he talked about in the video are not true, but this one is. Cargo throw stage spike IS techable, leaving DK in a worse position While cargo throw stage spike is viable in some situations, if you take your opponent off stage at decently high % you can kill with cargo down throw much more consistently And finally, Fully charged neutral B into down taunt is a true combo
Also if you walk off stage with cargo throw and down throw it can get them far enough to not be able to recover. It will also give Donkey Kong a boost upwards.

I love your videos it's almost became a routine for me that everytime you release a new breakdown even if i know the character by heart I make dinner and sit down to watch. Keep up the good work
As a DK main as well this guide was way over my expectations. You dont really see a lot of DK guides on TH-cam so this was really helpfull. (My specialty with DK is hitting a Side B at 60 percent then hitting a side smash and sending them to the blast zone)
Dash attack up tilt up tilt nair is a really easy combo to get some damage with, after that, if the opponent is gullible enough, cargo throw down forward air and thats an entire stock taken
Something really useful about DK's down throw after cargo is that it stops your momentum in the air. So, you can grab them, run off stage toward the KO area, and down throw them straight off the side and make it back 100% of the time. It'll KO many characters around 70%-80%. Its super low risk because the down throw after cargo stops your momentum in the air and allows you to make a quick and safe recovery. Same thing if you want to smash them off the bottom of the stage. You just have to be facing the right way when you jump off.
Dk's Up B is criminally underrated. On the ground it has some super armor, and it kills reliably from the side of the stage at 130% (all characters). It's great for approaching too because people generally try to roll or spot dodge (or even melee attack or use projectiles) and it will catch them. If you're being edge guarded, you can throw out an up B to knock your opponent back a bit and make some space. It's only bad if you miss with it because of how much ending lag there is.
As a donkey Kong main of 10 years, this is one of the best guides I’ve seen. Knowing spacing and trying to keep a constant hit box is something that just takes time but it’s extremely important with donkey Kong
@@brandonmorehouse7507 basically you want to try to be throwing out a nair or bair constantly but be far enough away from your opponent that they can’t hit you. That’s a pretty simplified way of saying that, but it’s one of the most important things of playing DK since you can so easily be combo food if you aren’t careful
Neutral air has been buffed since this guide came out, and falling nair into a tilt or jab is a very strong move now that can be done at a wide range of percent.
For the back cargo throw off stage you could turn around and then jump off so you are facing the stage then down throw. I find it more consistent than back throw.
I think his bair is one of the most underrated aerials in the game. It's not the best or top 5 but it's really good, especially in DK's kit who has trouble approaching. It's strong, combos into itself, and it's so fast that 2 of them can be peformed in a single shorthop.
Forward-down throw is actually pretty good off stage, since it can send far off stage and kill characters with lesser recoveries at early percentages. It's also a better, but riskier option for stage spikes. It's a lot more difficult to land than the forward-back throw stage spike, but if you're facing the stage after you jump off, and forward-down throw against the stage, it kills a lot earlier and sends the opponent down at a way better angle. It is a lot harder to land though, and you're way more likely to miss the spot where it KOs. If you can get good at landing it though, it's a way more deadly option than forward-back throw stage spikes, since it gives the opponent less time to tech/react.
Me just starting smash: Oooh yeah DK is my man. Lemme check a tutorial. Me watching this: Uhm what is he saying? What does he mean? Spike? landing lag?
Something to know about DK's down tilt is that its the starter for most grab combos. landing fast fall nair followed by down tilt can combo into a forward grab into cargo up throw into up air upB, and its like 80% damage. it's a very good combo, but its completely reliant on tripping with down tilt. otherwise they'll shield. so always always run for a grab after down tilting
Cargo down throw is the best off stage because it has the least lag so he can recover after. Can kill off the side at high percent and also can be used for a stage spike.
One thing I earned that is key to playing DK is that even though he’s gonna struggle against faster combo heavy characters he can make up the damage very quickly because of his own brute strength so don’t panic if you get comboed.

I mention something in case it helps people who wanna try, in just a week, I saw 3 times DK's down-air, launched after a short hop from the ground, successfully prevent enemies that were coming down from right below the edge. I haven't tested yet, but it looks similar to Rob's hard to time but deadly "go back down" defence...
I think you are underrated his downthrow when he has someone on his shoulder. DK actually gets a little boost upward when you use that off the stage, letting you recover better.
