My 2008 GSR still has the OEM Panasonic battery. Well, it actually just started having a cranking issue just a week ago where i had to occasionally jump it when it gets too cold. So, i am sourcing for the Optima Red 35 for the evo. I thought the Red one would be better since its a 720 vs the yellow 600+ cranking.
FYI, after watching this video I was able to do the same swap on my 2010 EVO X SE (thanks RB). The oem battery was the panasonic which lasted 11 years (!) My local Mitsu dealer attempted to order an OE, but after a week of waiting, I looked for an aftermarket -- I used the Optima Yellowtop D35 (8040-218). The problem with most aftermarket batteries is that they are too wide and don't fit in the EVO battery brackets (this battery is located behind a panel in trunk). The Yellowtop D35 fits perfectly with room to spare and no need for bracket adapters, etc. Although, I don't have history with the Yellowtop, the car started right up and is running fine.
Thanks for the video! It was reassuring to see you have some difficulty with the same things I came across (the surprise of the vent tube and the difficulty with holding down the battery retainer). Quick question, why is the Panasonic battery bad? It's lasted me almost 6 years so I'm thinking of getting the same one.
Just to verify, I don’t need to use the hose if the battery came with no vent out? I have the red top but it came with no vent, just wanted to make sure i wont die lol
Knowing the absolutely useless platform this car sits on I looked up this video just to see if the battery was on the same part as all the other abominations that use this platform which by the way is in front of the left tire behind the bumper and complete out of reach from the engine bay,
The Panasonic is not bad. Mine lasted me 11 years, no joke. That would be the longest lasting battery I have ever heard of in my life
You have the first one I have heard of doing that good. Congrats. You should probably play the lottery while you are on a roll.
wow and i was happy with mine lasting 9 years
Mine about to die after 10 years
mine today and i have a 09 model😂 15 years

Depends on how cold it gets where you are. I'm in a good temperate are so the 600 is fine for me and the yellow series is what I run in my trucks.
Keep up the great work!
Dumb question, the positive(+) side goes under the red rubber cover right?
most batteries yes, some have the red rubber on both sides but tipically only positive side has, 1 year later lol
Would be nice to know part # for that Optima yellowtop.

The Panasonic lasted 10 years for me. Unfortunately it’s discontinued.
My tuner, myself, and a few other evo owners I personally know have had way more bad luck stories with them than good ones.
My Evo x is still kicking after 11 years on the Panasonic. I have had multiple Optima failures on other cars throughout the years.
@@jeremyjmontoya mines 14 years old and i think I need a new one now lol

The hose is just for vented batteries so that vent fumes don't gas into the car.
My OEM Panasonic battery just died the other day
i literally came on here to double check if there was a quirk to that bracket, but i see i must suffer
