Regarding body roll, remember this is a RALLY car - meaning, an OFF PAVEMENT racing car. The suspension needs to have travel, and it needs to be able to move, to deal with bumps, ruts, uneven ground, and of course jumps. Obviously in stock form it's not competition ready, but those are its bones. Sure you can tune it for flatter cornering as a street car, and I guess that's what most people do, but that will make it worse, not better, for its designed use. What if they made an "Evolution" variant of the Mirage or something close to it? I mean, the Lancer was pretty much a decent daily driver until Mitsubishi had the balls to turn it into a rally car that would give birth to the rivalry against Subaru's WRX STi. Though, the Mirage right now isn't well known for performance and it hasn't been justified whether it is worthy of a performance version so nevermind, forget what I said completely.
@Mahbub Z Rohan I own a regular old Lancer and when I got an ad for that thing in the mail from my trader I felt a bit sad for a colleague who was still driving his old Eclipse.

We wanted a new Eclipse, and we got a new Eclipse. There's only a few problems with it. I have to ask myself who the fucking hell has came to the idea to turn it into a crossover SUV, which has absolutely nothing with the old Eclipse generations in common but the name. Also, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what kind of mushrooms the designer has consumed to turn it into a modern Pontiac Aztek...
Growing up I was always team EVO while I knew others that were team STI. While I could never afford an EVO myself, I did buy a new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, with all the upgrades. I absolutely loved that car and in my 11 years of owning it, I never once had to take it to a shop for something other than regular maintenance. When I heard Mitsubishi's announcement that they were canceling the EVO and the Lancer itself I felt so betrayed and vowed to never by a Mitsubishi vehicle again. In 2019 I traded in my Lancer for a brand new Hyundai Veloster Turbo and it's been great so far! It's smaller than my old Lancer, but man is it fun to drive!
"Mitsubishi canceled this car because it didn't fit in with their product portfolio moving toward crossovers and SUVs." Clearly, the crossover thing worked out for them. But seriously, so many automakers have a penchant for killing beloved, iconic cars. Cars that actually get people excited about the brand like the S2000, (old) Supra, and of course the Evo. Yeah, they have to make a business case, but Subaru and Mazda are able to make it work with the low-volume WRX and Miata.
Emmanuel Kumi except it’s not the wrx/sti in current VA generation uses an Impreza body that is no longer produced. It’s exclusive to that of the wrx/sti the Impreza is on a global chassis platform and has been some years.

I’m “stage 2” now and may go the E85 route. But maybe a TT700 turbo and run 9’s. Not sure. But the visibility and handling is not as good as the Evo X. Damn Audi’s understeer like crazy.
I have a 2016 STI bone stock as my daily and I have a 2012 Evo X as my weekend toy. After owning them over the years despite all the internet bias of one over the other, for me personally, the Evo X is much better for modding and power. Now as for a daily driver, the STI is much better. As for rain and snow conditions, the STI does much better. Again, this is just my input from owning both.
I love the respect for both the Sti & Evo. Both are marvelous piece of engineering, I do own an sti but would want to own an evo one day (if it made a comeback)
There are a few EVOs here in my city (Belo Horizonte, Brasil) and i doubt they're modified. Not a single sign of tunning and such on the ones i've spotted.

7:32 - I believe I found the reason why the manual version of the Evo X only had 5 speeds and not 6, according to Evo magazine in the UK as quoted from their 2008 long-term test of the FQ-300 SST... _”Mitsubishi claims that since the five-speed manual is needed for the motorsport versions of the Evo, it wasn’t commercially viable to develop a six-speed one for the road cars, especially as the SST ’box offers six cogs if that’s what you want.”_
What I always heard was the 8 and 9 came with a 5 spd or optional 6 spd. They both used the same housing just the 6 spd had that extra gear. Because of that extra gear it took up more room and the gears weren't as strong as the 5 spd. There are people with Evo 8 and 9 who would swap the 6spd for the 5.
doug undervalued the evo as usual... the s-awc is so advanced, audi didn't have that unlimited torque vectoring until 2017 and had to pay for an r8 to get it. the heart of the evo is s-awc and is what separates this from the pack.
lol its rain guards. Interesting thought, but if it was an OEM accessory is it still considered modified? Not saying those are OEM, but I know mitsubishi made OEM rain guards for the evo
Driven three generation STI's then took a evo x out and i couldn't believe all the internet back and forth about that comparison....the evo is much better stock vs stock
@@AvatarPuls that's true. I'm an Evo fan but I prefer earlier models than the Evo x. Mitsubishi tried to make a car balance both sides too much, that is why the evo x failed. This is also happening to the newer subaru's
The problem they had that also Subaru’s are running into is that they are trying to get into the sport luxury market. Sorry but Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac CTS V, Audi already got that market locked down. They started charging as much as those brands and didn’t even come close to the luxury of those companies.

@@AvatarPuls No better all around. More reliable, can push out WAY more torque, bulletproof engine that can take mods (STI's engine is a joke, even stock ones had problems). Not to mention yaw control and torque vectoring were invented by Mitsubishi during the earlier Evo development. Ive seen so many STIs burn up after pitiful amount of miles, not the Evo though. And lets be honest: both cars were made to mod for rally, so comparing stock is useless. Modded STIs, while great in many aspects, need a helluva lot more mods to be effective and reliable, especially when it comes to the motor. The STI motor (comparing EVO X to the STI of that year of course) was simply built like a tin can. They couldnt take mods. First users were pissed off on the forums, took a few years for aftermarket to make upgraded rods and pistons to make the STI motor able to take any increase in torque. But they are different cars. STI is lighter, EVO feels heavy like a German car. But honestly, point for point the EVO is just better, and it was more expensive so go figure.

It's actually the reason I got rid of mine. Just never liked anything my hands were constantly touching in that interior. When swapping the head unit with an aftermarket one makes it look even closer to stock you know something just isn't working in that interior. I traded mine (an 08) for a '16 Focus ST.
Everything you said before the 17 minute mark is true and works in my favor. It keeps the casual people away from this car, which is already rare to begin with. Many people will track or do performance driving with these cars, which is the way it should be. Sure, you can modify for show/looks, but as you mentioned, there is only so much you can do with a Lancer interior before it gets old/boring. No need to find an 8/9, the interior is even worse and don't even start talking about safety lol. I own a modded 9 and use it primarily for autocross or quick weekend drives to keep things moving. If I had to drive this thing every day, I would kill myself. At the same time, I would not sell it for anything, it really is that great.

Mitsubishis are engineer's cars. As such, they are often vastly underrated, even the standard models, such as the old ordinary Lancer models. These are technically rock-solid, well-engieered vehicles. The only thing they cut corners on was/is the design. As if the engineers locked themselves into a room to develop the car, and after some considerable time, someone said: "Oh yeah, we may need a designer now. Do we have a capable intern around here for that?"

Doug, I owned a 15 MR... Its obvious you never drove an MR EVO X, the dual clutch in it is amazing. I highly suggest you drive one. The transmission costs $15,000 by itself and is the same transmission that's in the GTR, So to say the manual stick is the one to get is very one sided. The MR is faster and better looking with its BBS wheels, body color matching vents and low profile wing, Rockford Fosgate and FAST keyless entry system as well as the fact ALL of them came with the SSS package that the regular X didnt usually have because the buyers of those were trying to save money. its the budget Evo basically. I liked my MR because it was low profile and excuded a subtle wealth image and capable of showing the snobby kid in his BMW that your badge doesnt matter.

I change the SST fluid and filter yearly, get fluid analysis done as well and it's in perfect health. 3 differnent TC-SST trans went from 2008 model only, to 2010 model only and 2011-2015 only so they did make upgrades that aren't interchangeable.

Agreed - the SST dual clutch is AWESOME! I'm a stick purist usually but I spent a day in an MR (Turo) around town and in the Malibu canyons and felt like the SST may pair better with the turbo engine than the manual. Shifts so fast and keeps it on boost. VERY quick to downshift when you dip into the throttle. So much capability and character for the car as a whole and the transmission. After 2 minutes of driving you completely forget about any interior cheapness (the seats are great though). Truly a special car to drive and it made me seriously consider buying one. The lack of a huge wing is a big plus to us non-boy-racer types.
Forgot to mention - the ride was not overly harsh at all. I was expecting to be annoyed but it was totally fine. My current E89 Z4 coupe (3.0si) has a much harsher ride. Interior noise levels were not bad either - you hear a lot of turbo sounds which is great.

Its all-road capabilities should at least be appreciated.

Yes
We wanted a new Eclipse, and we got a new Eclipse. There's only a few problems with it.
I have to ask myself who the fucking hell has came to the idea to turn it into a crossover SUV, which has absolutely nothing with the old Eclipse generations in common but the name. Also, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what kind of mushrooms the designer has consumed to turn it into a modern Pontiac Aztek...
Aside from the Evo and Eclipse, Mitsubishi has always been poo
They should revive the 3000gt 😴
I love my veloster turbo! but definitely would love an all wheel drive hot hatch
I'm sure your woman thinks the Hyundai is cute and peppy. If you even have one.

The Miata isn’t really low volume at all, it’s the most sold sport car in the world.

17:55 let's talk about this engine noise for a second, it's just fantastic
7:32 - I believe I found the reason why the manual version of the Evo X only had 5 speeds and not 6, according to Evo magazine in the UK as quoted from their 2008 long-term test of the FQ-300 SST...
_”Mitsubishi claims that since the five-speed manual is needed for the motorsport versions of the Evo, it wasn’t commercially viable to develop a six-speed one for the road cars, especially as the SST ’box offers six cogs if that’s what you want.”_
The 5spd was stronger than the 6spd.
5 spd also had a better 0-60 with one less shift.
because the 6 speed is fragile af
Most times Doug doesnt really know what he's talking about to be honest
What I always heard was the 8 and 9 came with a 5 spd or optional 6 spd. They both used the same housing just the 6 spd had that extra gear. Because of that extra gear it took up more room and the gears weren't as strong as the 5 spd. There are people with Evo 8 and 9 who would swap the 6spd for the 5.
doug undervalued the evo as usual... the s-awc is so advanced, audi didn't have that unlimited torque vectoring until 2017 and had to pay for an r8 to get it. the heart of the evo is s-awc and is what separates this from the pack.
Doug:this car is completely unmodified.

@@monmc6129 I'd say that Mitsubishi tried to make the Evo x towards their new plans which ultimately failed. Y know like with switching to crossovers and shit. It overall balanced more on the user friendly side. They could've made it better but they didn't have the money and you know they pushed it out only to make more money than anything else

I know this is a few months old, but I finally got my hands on an evo x MR to review and man is it a fantastic car to drive. Garbage interior sure, but the way it handles is very surprising! Nothing too intimidating with power, which makes it a blast to drive, I see why people love these cars!
Doug, I owned a 15 MR... Its obvious you never drove an MR EVO X, the
dual clutch in it is amazing. I highly suggest you drive one. The
transmission costs $15,000 by itself and is the same transmission that's
in the GTR, So to say the manual stick is the one to get is very one
sided. The MR is faster and better looking with its BBS wheels, body
color matching vents and low profile wing, Rockford Fosgate and FAST
keyless entry system as well as the fact ALL of them came with the SSS
package that the regular X didnt usually have because the buyers of
those were trying to save money. its the budget Evo basically. I liked
my MR because it was low profile and excuded a subtle wealth image and
capable of showing the snobby kid in his BMW that your badge doesnt
matter.
Yeah I own a 400whp 2014 X MR, total stock trans, has 120,000kms on it and still shifts like lightening. I change the SST fluid and filter yearly, get fluid analysis done as well and it's in perfect health. 3 differnent TC-SST trans went from 2008 model only, to 2010 model only and 2011-2015 only so they did make upgrades that aren't interchangeable.
Don't get to worked up about no knowledge dug. He's got so many people watching yet he says nothing everytime. Ummmmm I looked online at some forum's for an hour then Google it, ok lets review this... like he has a clue idiot..... he's america in human form
@@mattwood3773 if the man upsets you this much, why watch? Legit question. You have so many options. You gave him a view and comment. That directly supports him, and means you were an engaged viewer.
That "THISSSSS" lasted longer than the pandemic.
underrated comment
Lmao
That would’ve been a funny joke if the pandemic was over but it isn’t.
@Hollywood Collins Despite your name, you must not be in America. Virus cases are still increasing in a few states. I would say think before you comment, but then again this is TH-cam.
Haha best comment of the year
Have mine since 6 years now still going strong and exciting no problems very reliable car
Except shitty gas mileage lmao
same, never had an issue. over 120k miles on it.
I always wanted an evo but was worried about it's reliability so I bought a Honda S2000. Nice video as always my man, Thankyou. You are the best automobile reviewer on TH-cam..By far..
You can't go wrong with either. Both are gems.
The EVO X wasn't just the end of Mitsubishi, but it was an end of an era
Contrary to what Doug said, the Evo actually had a 6-speed manual in the Evo VIII and IX MR models, but they're known to break easily so many owners swap them with the 5 speed.
Yes, Doug doesn't know much about it he just likes to talk like he does
@@PapaLeguasCOD understandable yeah haha i just can't help nerding out as a huge Evo guy since childhold
EVO X MR was 6 speed dual clutch.
When I see Doug review a JDM car... I click.
P.S. I know this is a US Domestic 🤷

Doug, thank you so much for all that you do for the car community. Quick friendly correction--Evo's were winning significant rally races in the mid 90's. Not just making tuner's dreams come through in 2003.
“Badges .... badges ... we don’t need no stink in’ badges”.
IF you know, then you know...
lancer! leave that badge alone
lol doug complianed about too much badging. when there isnt alot of badges he complains, well wtf do you want man.(if you ever watched his h2 hummer review)
I'm glad Doug broke down what the "Sun, Sound, and Leather" package consisted of. Not sure if I could figure it out otherwise.
When he said 30 years ago, I was expecting 70's. Guess I've grown old.
Gives an Evo X a handling score of 6/10...meanwhile, actual drivers like Jeremy Clarkson calls the 10 one of the best handling cars of all time. Gotta take these reviews with a grain of salt I guess lol.
I think he was looking for old lady Galaxie 500 handling there.
He expects the Evo to be some sort of exotic car lmao
@@brolydbs1927 well, 10/10 IS an exotic car handling’s score. An exotic car getting a 10 and an Evo getting a 10 would make 0 sense, because the exotic obviously handles better and therefore, Evo is a 6
Keyword being "salt"
Doug looks like a taller version of every white guy that ever owned an Evo.
Every white guy? The only time I saw someone driving an Evo who wasn’t a thin white guy was when it was a thin white girl. These are the Vermont of import tuner cars.
I've seen a few Asians and Latinos own them in Iowa...
People of any race and ethnic can own a(n) Evo 🙋🏻♂️
Where I’m at, I see a lot of different people driving them, not one specific type of person
In Florida the majority of people that own evo’s are Puerto Rican’s
Doug doesn't know what evo motto in the 90s.
"Sit down, drive and be one with the machine."
That's why features and appearance doesn't matter. It's the engine that's matters to the owners.
And the chassis. It out-handles the STI.
So let's just ignore that it's what he said during the driving segment? He literally said features and all were not the target, only what's under the hood and the tech that contributes to the driving experience matters. I get how people feel but you have to remember that he still has to review the car as a whole, motto or not.
Not too sure about this specific engine (evo 10) but the previous years 4g63 is built like a tank
I love my ralliart, the sst duel clutch is nice in heavy traffic, and gives you an extra gear. Its also a hatchback, which was only made for 3 model years.
The hatchbacks look so much better
Everyone likes to talk smack on Mitsubishi’s, but I love both of mine, and people on the internet almost always have great things to say about theirs.
Lancer Ralliart?
@@syawalhamidi The little bro of the evo like how the WRX is the STi little bro. Basically a turbo lancer with a detuned engine of the EvoX, comes with a duel clutch transmission (No manual). Cheaper and more affordable...Or some call it the poor man's evo.
Yes the Evo X had a 5 speed but it was a reinforced strengthened transmission. A lot stronger than the base model lancer which I used to own and was also a 5 speed.
