Thank you very much for your videos Anna.... I have just started playing badminton at the age of 33. I am not aiming to be pro but wanted to enjoy game... sure your 'teachings' at least keeping me away from being joke on the court.. thank you very much. The way you explain the basics, which are vital to any game, precisely, clearly and effectively. Your a very good teacher and you can explain a colour to a blind.
you are a really good teacher, but i just think that sometimes, at the end of the video for example, you should show the shot on a real shuttle. So we can see how it really looks like in the reality, after the theory. But for the rest don't change anything :)
Dear Anna, thank you very much. But perhaps you may like to compare Lee JayBok advising 'locking' the wrist and what he ( and the Chinese ) calls the door knob rotating action, rotating(supinating?) the forearm outward, and extending the thumb on the flatter side of the racquet grip. Please do comment. Regards,Vishwas. 'Most powerful backhand' is a misnomer here. You should have seen Erland Kops hitting a backhand smash. Regards.
Your explanation is different with those from others, especially about the "bounce-back". But I think yours is the correct and complete one. Thanks for sharing, Anna...
The way you hold the grip while backhand stroke indeeds help! i swang my racket using my way and it didnt sound strong, instead, for your way,it sounded stronger! i will try this! Thanks girl!
Good explanation. Thanks and Keep it up.. Others show the practical without any real theory behind and we were still on the same page. This really helped!!
You don't force the racket to stop on your shoulder like its bouncing off a wall, it can cost injury and is bad for you shoulder. Professionals when they hit the birdy, they have good handling on there wrist so they can control their power more evenly. They only use power seconds before the birdy reach the racket. After wards they don't use any power at all. The power is nice and short which means the racket slows down right away. The human body wasn't built for you arm to go pass your shoulders, so professionals their arm just slowly comes back.
@sabugopinath yea this new grip is a new generation type of grip. The old fashioned way was to hold it in the traditional backhand method, but the latest players have designed this grip so that its easier to play and hit with.
@TheHaanswin Absolutely agree. - I'm quite not good in English but well understand what she said. Her communication is clear and excellent. - I try to grip as her recommend, it works !
trust me guys Anna is one of the best female Badminton players in the country, and has been coached by some of the best coaches in the world. this is a tutorial learn from it and adapt it to your own style of hitting. well done Anna drew
I give it a try. But it sounds strange to me. In the backhand grip I use this grip. When I put a shuttle on the racket and the shuttle doesn't fall, then I put my thumb on top. That's the way I like to hold my racket. This also works as well.
u video all very very helpful.and my coach is u only.I just learn badminton from video only.and can u help me backhand short technic and training.and many more video for backhand shorts
i am more interested in knowing how to place the clear on the back hand. I am able to place the back hand drop to either down the line or cross court. But the clear always goes down the line ...or at best deep in the middle..if I give it a good flick ...how to get a good accurate diagonal clear on the back hand...does the grip change for a diagonal clear?
@betterbadminton I loved your all theories, all videos and all the things that you explain but my question is- how to handle long shots in left corner after service if you are standing in middle..
@vvekkmis you would get it a bit lower than usual, follow through with the racquet most of the time (or stop right at the contact point) and NOT rebound it off the wall like annas doing in this video
I think that is when you are playing the backhand at your side, but what she is demonstrating is playing a backhand behind (or in front of you, when you're facing the front). That way the grip should work.
i think it would only put strain on your elbow if you let it overextend when you whip. So if your elbow is slightly bent when you whip it should be fine.
dear Anna, like vishwas k, I would really appreciate your input/commentary with regard to the Lee Jae Bok video tutorial - his version of grip and "door knob" wrist action for the stroke. Thanks for all your help!!
no . i have seen even Lee's coaching videos which suggests the thumb to be placed to the side of the grip .. the flat side of the grip is for backhand forecourt shots
You should always bend your elbow when hitting backhand shots. Otherwise you risk injuring the elbow if you straighten it when hitting backhand. Very different from hitting forward when you are suppose to straighten it.
mam your backhand breakdown of shots is unbelievable...thank you for sharing the expertise....
Thank you very much for your videos Anna....
