When I'm at a loss as to what to do for an accent nail, I turn to my handy dandy dotting tools. I'll do 4 nails in a darker solid, the do a lighter color on the accent nail. Then I'll pick a third color and dot the darker and third colors on the light nail. Always get compliments!
Ahh thank you so much! I've been in a colorful mood haha! But it does make me want to go back to the blonde streak in my hair so I don't clash as much 😂😂
Whenever I do a French manicure and free-hand the tips, I always keep my tiny dotting tool handy just in case - not to help with the tips, but to help camoflauge any wonky tip lines if they happen. Just pick a third color of polish (or a bunch of colors - I've done a rainbow of dots over a pearlescent French mani), and dot right along the tip of the nail where it meets the sheer color. I like to make my first dot in the center and then space them out from there so they're even, and voila! Now your French tip looks like it was even the whole time and you have cute dots to accent it. Doing this made me more confident in doing French manis free-hand, so now I usually don't have anything to cover up, but sometimes I like to do the dots anyway bc they're cute and fun.
Great info! I’ve never used dotting tools, although I have some and have wanted to try. Your video covers things I haven’t even thought about. Super helpful!
Thanks Kelli, this is very helpful and timely for me. So far I've only used a dotting tool to apply clear polish to attach rhinestones. Looking forward to trying it with colour. (Currently wearing I Scream Nails "Daydream" neon red with a tiny, silver rhinestone on each nail, centred at the cuticle).
Long time 😢 I hope this finds you well. Wow! I needed this. I literally gave up dots. And I realized I was pushing dwn too hard. And the dot looked nothing like a dot. I will retry. Thank you so much for the wonderful content. I would love for you to dive deeper into dots. Please do. Be well
Firstly, your eye shadow and lipstick combo are amazing. Second, I can't do nail art but I can manage a dotting tool at least. I love this deep dive of tips!
Dotting tools was my first form of nail art. It really is beginner friendly and you can do so much with them. I’ve come a long way since then, but still use them from time to time.
Very timely in my case. I never do nail art but I impulse bot a set of dotting tools at Dollar Tree ... three of them, I think each has a different size on each end. I got home and am like ... what am I going to do with these? LOL now I have ideas
This was very helpful. I'm a person who didn't continuously dip and got different size dots, so great tip. I concur about doing a 101 video on the use of striping tape
I'm just picturing a light coloured base and then dotting translucent polish in several layers on top, not covering all of the previous dots but some, so you would f.x. dot with cyan, magenta and yellow and thus get green, purple and orange dots on top😍
That's my problem. I push too hard. Need to practice more. Dotting tools are the easiest thing to use for nail art.. I am not good at trying freehand. I'm not steady enough. Thanks for this video Kelli. Would love that compilation. Not good with ideas lol. ❤ striping tape is hard for me to get placed properly.
Thank you thank you!! I do have a semi recent video on striping tape 101 here - th-cam.com/video/YYDxFKzB6Rs/w-d-xo.html. I might tackle some more 3 dimensional nail art stuff next 👀😜
Any tips on using striping tape Kelli. Just used some and oh my word, so frustrating. Difficult to find the beginning of the tape and trying to get a straight line on my none dominant hand was a nightmare. Just to add insult to injury the tape came off one nail despite two coats of top coat. Thanks for the dotting tool tips. X
Nice video!! I need to stop getting new dotting tools as one person does not need 5+ sets lol. I'd love to see a Nail Polish 101 on tips and design ideas for nail washi tape (I still have the set I purchased from Cirque years ago and haven't used them much). I agree as well, I love the final result of manicures done with striping tape, but I end up using dotting tools way more often for the convenience.
Honestly a good idea to take breaks from social media 😅 I missed making videos though!! It's been such a crazy start to the year being sick so I feel like I'm behind haha but I'm getting back into my schedule! 🩵

Ooh I LOVE that idea!!
That's a great idea.
That pink lip with green eyeshadow? Stunning, Kelli 🩷💚🩷

I love your 101 videos!
Thank you so much 🥰🥰💅
@ thank you! I always learn the best tips and tricks from your videos 😊
Your 101 videos are all so helpful! I hope you are feeling better!😊
Thank you so much! I'm feeling so much better (but this lingering cough is a nuisance haha!)
Great to see you Kelli. I enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy them 🥰🥰🥰

The video I didn’t think I needed, to the video I MUCH needed!
I just got a set of dotting tools yesterday, perfect timing!
Omg did I read your mind or what 😂😂 Love it!!
Great info! I’ve never used dotting tools, although I have some and have wanted to try. Your video covers things I haven’t even thought about. Super helpful!
Oh yay I hope you give them a try! They're really fun to play with and create new nail art looks with 🥰
Love this video! I’ve only used my dotting tools once for a ghost accent nail this past Halloween. I’d love videos that show some dotting nail art ❤

Ooh that sounds so cute! I think dotting tools are so useful for glitters and rhinestones but you should definitely try some nail art with them too 😋😋

Perfect timing! I just bought a set of dotting tools as was feeling mildly overwhelmed 😅
I used your tips to do little Santa hats on my nails before Christmas with a bobby pin and they turned out great! Thank you!

Thank you for doing these type of videos. I like getting ideas for my nails. Have a happy, healthy and blessed New Year!!

I’m SOOOOO EXCITED for this video! Thank you for it!! I asked for it sometime ago (no clue when). I knew you’d do it when you could. Muchas gracias!

Do you ever do water-marbling? I’d love to see you do that.
Please do a few different looks for us on dotting tools. Need new ideas! Thanks!💅🏻
Sure! I've got so many ideas 😅😅
Dotting tool designs 102 please!
Such great tips! Dots always look so fun on nails. 🥰
I agree, I've seen SUCH creative designs with dotting tools!
I love this video. A refresher course in using striping tape would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! I’m so glad you’re feeling better!❤

Hi! I actually recently made a video just like this about striping tape, it's linked in the cards! I hope you find it helpful ❤️❤️
I sympathise with you! I'd love some tips too.
Thanks for reply. Don’t know how I missed striping tape tutorial. X
French manicures are the first nail art I learned so I'm a big fan of tape
Ooh yeah I do love a classic french tip so that's fair haha
Yay, another 101 video!
Perfect timing!
Yay hope it helps!!
Excelente ❤
Thank you!!
Thank you so very much, Kelli!!!!! 💜

👏💅😊handy tips.TFS
Yay glad to hear it!!
I agree. I like the look more when using stripping tape, but it's soo much easier using dotting tools.
Haha yes exactly, I don't always have the patience for tape 😅
Do I already own dotting tools, yes. Did I watch the video anyway, of course! 😅
Haha honestly never hurts to get a little refresh (or inspo at least!)
Awesome. Thank you!
Yay happy to help!!
I missed you!!! 😢 I'm fasting from Instagram.
Honestly a good idea to take breaks from social media 😅 I missed making videos though!! It's been such a crazy start to the year being sick so I feel like I'm behind haha but I'm getting back into my schedule! 🩵
@KelliMarissa I didn't know you were sick. Have a medicine ball tea, and feel better lovey. 🙏
I've found that matchsticks work well in a pinch.
Also, your makeup is 🔥 (as always 😊)
Oh gosh thank you!!
Which way is best to hold the tool? I normally hold straight up and down. But noticed you hold yours at an angle. I am not a good artist 😮
Honestly I hold mine like a pen/pencil!
Do you like regular nail polish or gel polish?
I tend to use regular polish more often but I've been getting more into gels recently :)
I just realised I could hold the tool held sideways... it's a ball, I don't have to apply it perfectly upright! 🤦♀️
Yes it makes such a difference! I recommend holding it like a pencil 😅
I loath working with striping tape but it is more useful 🙃
💜💙💚
You look very pretty green eyeshadow pink lips red hair white dress 😊.
I press too hard with the actual tools 🙈😂
It's honestly a difficult thing to judge 😅 but it gets easier with practice to be more gentle!
I’d rather use dotting tools. Striping tape and I don’t get along. 😢
