I am a retired commercial photographer and a PS expert always doing things (since PS 2.0)in the safest ways possible. Tony changed all that. The nuances of this plug in are beautifully demonstrated in your videos and for that a tip of the hat to you Mr Kelly. I create the kind of landscape image I never thought possible.
I've come to look forward to TK-Fridays. I especially appreciate how you SAY and SHOW what you are doing at each step while moving along at a great clip. I liked that you did several today - rather than just one. Many thanks.
That is SO cool. Just came across your channel about a week ago and have been binge-watching whenever I get some free time. I've had the TK8 plugin for a while and just really getting into it more and more. Your videos are a great help.
Dave, thanks for sharing this technique with us. I posted a picture I made with it and people think it is a real sketch. You are a great teacher!! If you ever decide to lead an online PS class please let me know.
Thanks, Dave. I've been wanting to try the TK8 "sketch" technique for sometime. Your video totally got me inspired and on my way! I do have one question, not sure if this is the right place to ask? When I finish my adjustments and go TK8 "web sharpening" and then to "save" my images come out way saturated. This only happens when I have created a "sketched" image. Not other images adjusted with the TK8 panels. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again for the great tutorial.
You are welcome Linda. I am not sure about the issue you are having. I will need to check into it and see if I find the same results and then I will be better able to advise.
Thank you Dave, I hadn't tried this since getting TK8 but this gives a big push to try it out. I followed along on the images you used and tried using blend if on the elephant image to reduce the blacks and it worked well. Blake Rudis is big on this in his panels and it made me think that its an area Tony could consider for future TK...
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thanks Dave, I notice from the video and whilst trying it out myself, that when changing blend modes for the group to switch between B&W and color and back again that there is a difference in the luminosity between the pass through blend mode and normal (normal is lighter)
Dave's method of painting on the layer mask through a Darks selection actually shows the advantage of painting through a selection of a mask compared to Blend If. He could selectively apply paint to the layer mask to lighten the image very precisely in areas that had gotten too dark from the sketch action. With Blend If, ALL dark areas would have been effected, not just those that Dave painted. In addition, painting through a selection allows different areas to be handled differently. Dave could add one brush stroke to one area and multiple brush strokes to different areas to get precisely the look he was after. In other words, he could customize the lightening even for areas of the image with the same tonal value. Blend If is one-size-fits-all. There's no way apply it differently to different areas that have the same tone. The same tones are all equally affected with Blend If. In some circumstances this might be desirable, but for maximum control, painting through a luminosity mask selection is hard to beat.

Hi Dave. I found your creative tool box videos and bought Topaz Studio, and now I need to get TK8 for Sketch-O-Graphs. Good thing Xmas is coming!
Dave, in the video, you mention a tutorial on how to improve selection on PS. Could you indicate the link? Thanks
I haven't made that video yet. Sorry if it sounded like I did. I will have to make that video.

Dave - Always enjoy our TKF sessions. Trying now and wonder if this is the tag #joyofedinting to use when posting? Thanks for teaching us.
Thanks. I don't know much about hash tags but it seems to pull up my channel.
