Great video as usual Jon. Please cover Flash support on this tablet and also show us the quality of the camera whilst in doors and outdoors. That would be awesome. Thanks Thumbs up for you as usual. Keep up the awesome job.
Thanks for the fast Transformer Prime video Jon! One small request though, I think you should clarify to people why the tablet was laggy when navigating TechnoBuffalo's webpage when it has flash in there. I don't think most people got that and were wondering why it was so laggy.
For those of you who are criticizing the lag on this device it is not because it is bad, but it is because 1) the transformer prime and the tegra 3 are intended for use with ICS 2) the tegra 3 is using its "5th" core only for light processes (thus you get the lag that you see I the video because it is only running at around 500mhz), but when your doing something intense like playing a game the "5th" core returns off and the actual quadcore and gpu turns on and runs at the full 1.3ghz.
Jon, really nice vid, but every time you try to show the screen quality in any device, I can't help but notice the amount of noise your videos have. Maybe the codec for video compression? Maybe the camera and low light recording? Anyway, with all the noise in the videos, I can't really see if there is pixelation, etc. :) Just sayin'. Still, you got the best reviews out there. Just fix the technical part, plz :P
personally I've dropped the Asus transformer prime on the concrete and carpet numerous times (about 10times) and except for a couple dents it still looks great and performs great. no broken glass no lost performance, nothing bad. I would recommended the father of the device in this video for price, performance, and clumsy-prone-proof. :-)
Right now this is an okay tablet, on par with most other Android tablets out there. Now, when ICS comes with quad core support and hardware acceleration, this thing will be the best tablet. Period.
i've always been a huge fan of android phones but never android tablets. but this with the quad cores and the promise of ICS makes me finally want android on a tablet.
Asus has evolved a lot in the last 2-4 years in product developement & quality, from say the time of the early eeePc's with Linux some time ago, to a fierce competitor. I saw the Nvidea trade show protos this August on YT & so, I have been waiting 4 the 4-cores! I bought a Toshiba NB 11" for my portable take with as I preferred a actual physical KB. I 2x'd the RAM but, I wondered: when the quads come will the also run Win 8, JolicCloud-Chromium, as well as Icecream in parrallel? Nice revue! Thx
Jon, do you know if there are plans to upgrade the Transformer's sister tablet, the Asus Slider? I would prefer to just have the keyboard built in, but the specs and software on the Transformer look superb! It will be even better once it gets ICS, too.
Dont judge the software on these prerelease models with Honeycomb^^ This device was built for ICS and i'm sure the experience will be much better when it arrives.
This tablet rules! Asus have a nice software support, HDMI, Micro SD, 4 cores, PSI display. Optional Dock have another battery + USB. You can browse 100% of the web because it supports Adobe Flash. IPAD doesn't support Adobe Flash.
Excuse me... Did you do this video in one whole segment or did you do it in various combine clips? ( If you noticed the battery started in 62% and end in 55%...this video only lasted 17.23 min)
plus it isnt a plastic back with a metal look and feel, its an aluminum backing which has been confirmed by asus and many other people who have played with the prime
@ragingsilver keep in mind that the Quad-core in a tablet/phone can't be compared with a desktop/notebook Quad-core. In raw power the fastest Quad-core mobile processor (which is the Tegra 3 at the moment) is about as fast as a Pentium 4
Hi Jon! I would like to know if the GPS on the Transformer prime, works just as good as a Garmin GPS. I mean, if I ca go and navigate in some place without knowing it and without WI-FI signal, just the GPS working. Greetings from Venezuela!
Stop recording sound in stereo mode! If you do that you will have to sit right in the center if the camera in order to hear you in both ears(more noticably if using headphones)! Please use mono!
@abtjen He probably turned up the tablet's settings to maximum brightness and performance for review purposes. The tablet probably gets the promised 12 hours of battery life while it's in a balanced mode with automatic brightness enabled.
does the prime still have the asus customized ability to remote control a local networked computer that the original transformer had? please compare the speakers with some of the staple tablets in the full review!
Buy this for Christmas or wait for a 2gb of ram tablet? Would 2gb be pointless and 1gb be fine? And would it drain the battery more? Thanks in advance :)
@DiogoBailao Umm no, it's not. The ASUS CEO said it himself that it's made from "finely crafted aluminium". If it was plastic, why would have an impact on signal strength?
Great tablet. Best android tablet on the market and lets see if it ends up being the best tablet on the market. I just hope battery life ends up being good as Asus claims.
@clouds5 The Transformer Prime is already available at retailers so it's all fair game since the current software is what consumers are going to experience at this moment. Of course this can be revisited when ICS arrives.
@speedlimiter "It's just not wide enough when used horizontally" Erm, it's wider than the iPad in horizontal mode...And you can use the stock android keyboard too, or download another one. And I'm not sure where the UI isn't responsive?
good times for android, quad core is now available, this means huge performance increase in itself, on the other side, ARM released a new development kit for android, with new coding apps will be 5x faster than with Dalvik...:D oh man :D
Why happened to the left side audio? I can only hear it from my right side but not the left one haha, this looks nice but is it really quad core? I mean I have to play it to belive it, this tablet should be wicked fast but the low res kinda suck now that iPad has retina display. The next one is set to be 1920x1200 so full HD display is a good step still not better in ppi though. But then again there will be no tablet getting that high res like the iPad in a while mayb next year
@PieceOfArtwork13 I literally have the exact same problem. My friend is trying to convince me to get the prime. It's more future proof. Many new apps will be optimized for quad core, so you might eventually need more horsepower. Go for the Prime
still lags in the browser I think so many cores on this device is not even better than the two core in the iPad 2 hope it's going to get better when ice cream sandwich comes out
Great video as usual Jon. Please cover Flash support on this tablet and also show us the quality of the camera whilst in doors and outdoors. That would be awesome. Thanks Thumbs up for you as usual. Keep up the awesome job.
Thanks for the fast Transformer Prime video Jon!

Im an iPad user.. And I love how smooth this tablet works... Best Android tablet till now.

Is it just me or is there audio only on the right channel?
thanks for pushing ALL of the audio to the right!
personally I've dropped the Asus transformer prime on the concrete and carpet numerous times (about 10times) and except for a couple dents it still looks great and performs great. no broken glass no lost performance, nothing bad. I was wearing my headphones the wrong way around! Thanks Technobuffalo for alerting me to the fact!
i've always been a huge fan of android phones but never android tablets. but this with the quad cores and the promise of ICS makes me finally want android on a tablet.

I am assuming the full review is going to be on your website?
I love your reviews, and this tablet.. and my right ear.
Dont judge the software on these prerelease models with Honeycomb^^ This device was built for ICS and i'm sure the experience will be much better when it arrives.

Goodbye ipad 2...pre-ordered this on day 1 from Amazon with 1 day shipping. Can't wait!!!!
Hy guys at techno buffalo, I think there is some problem with your sound recording as I can only hear out of one headphone
Will you please compare it to the original transformer?
please do a video comparing this to the ipad 2! im determining which one for Christmas!
@ragingsilver keep in mind that the Quad-core in a tablet/phone can't be compared with a desktop/notebook Quad-core. In raw power the fastest Quad-core mobile processor (which is the Tegra 3 at the moment) is about as fast as a Pentium 4
I got the original Transformer for $250 on Black Friday, so I'm happy.
What about the market app selection ?Are there more apps for that tablet and in general than before?
does it hurt to be that enthusiastic for 17 straight minutes?
Stop downing this tablet. Im glad I waited to get one. This will be my Christmas gift to myself.
Finally the iPad has some competition.
Hi Jon! I would like to know if the GPS on the Transformer prime, works just as good as a Garmin GPS. I mean, if I ca go and navigate in some place without knowing it and without WI-FI signal, just the GPS working. Greetings from Venezuela!
How is the music player and sound quality on it? And does the docking keyboard have a speaker on it well?
Stop recording sound in stereo mode! If you do that you will have to sit right in the center if the camera in order to hear you in both ears(more noticably if using headphones)! Please use mono!
I like that the video that shows how bad their competition is is probably a tablet with a Tegra 2
Jon you need to check the audio, it is really set low.
jon when will we see the obligatory ipad 2 vs transformer prime video?
Can't wait till this comes out.!!!!!!!!!!
I just watched the unboxing lol Can't wait (to actually watch) for the first impressions.
This tablet is amazing even though i did notice some lagg in the browser but pretty sure it will be fixed overall it looks gorgeous
Quad-core!! Angrybirds is going to be AMAZING!!!
QUAD cores?! God damn!
because like the transformer prime there is no left audio... i still want one though
Which is the best tablet for games?
@Gadgetman1992 My apologies to the TB crew :), my mistake.
Buy this for Christmas or wait for a 2gb of ram tablet? Would 2gb be pointless and 1gb be fine? And would it drain the battery more? Thanks in advance :)
This tablet looks awesome!
But the question is, is there any reason to upgrade from the transformer to this
3:52
"Fastest tablet that I have ever used..." *Scroll lag*
quad core wow... Nice review :)
Is the screen unresponsive or did you just miss the click many times?
@DiogoBailao Umm no, it's not. The ASUS CEO said it himself that it's made from "finely crafted aluminium". If it was plastic, why would have an impact on signal strength?
yay! millimeters and grams! finally, you get the significance of the metric system.
Is there a reason my left ear only heard the logo woosh?
Are you sure the back is plastic? I heard it too, but every other review and hands-on has said it's aluminum.
He began the video with 62 battery and ended with 55 in 17 minutes. How will this be able to stay 12 hours????
@XxiKarlosxX That's actually the pronunciation that ASUS has made "official."
for anyone wondering, they have updated the screen to 24 bit colour. still not woth the upgrade from a tf101, imo
it seems like there are some problems with it not registering your touch
Sorry to tell ya but the back of the Prime's back is metal.
Great tablet. Best android tablet on the market and lets see if it ends up being the best tablet on the market. I just hope battery life ends up being good as Asus claims.
i'll wait for "Asus Optimus Prime" with the "Android white chocolate OS 5.0"
Cool tablet Jon!
@clouds5
The Transformer Prime is already available at retailers so it's all fair game since the current software is what consumers are going to experience at this moment. Of course this can be revisited when ICS arrives.
Nice first impression.
My right ear enjoyed this video
I believe the back is metal not plastic
The best advantage of the Ipad 3 is the awesome screen.
Still, I would pick the Prime any day.
Jon, please fix the audio and reupload.
Quad core tablet?
Tablets are definitely the future laptops.
@speedlimiter "It's just not wide enough when used horizontally" Erm, it's wider than the iPad in horizontal mode...And you can use the stock android keyboard too, or download another one. And I'm not sure where the UI isn't responsive?
Mix the audio channels maybe John?
good times for android, quad core is now available, this means huge performance increase in itself, on the other side, ARM released a new development kit for android, with new coding apps will be 5x faster than with Dalvik...:D oh man :D
i can hear from my left ear noly when the logo loads
2:44 "The back is still plastic" - WRONG! The back is aluminium!
@Harukoozt Yes but Apple A6 wont be out until Quarter 2 of 2012 so what is your relevance here?
The back is made of radial spun aluminum not plastic.
But then again there will be no tablet getting that high res like the iPad in a while mayb next year
only getting sound from my left headphone
actually not, it's quad core with 12-core graphics, always renember that google is your friend before posting
why is audio coming from one speaker for this video?!
Does the Asus transformer laptop dock work with the Asus Prime?
"You're going to need a shirt handy" umm, don't know about you Jon but I always have a shirt around 'cos i wear one?? Jon do you?!
i thought you said the battery could last 12 hrs? within 10 mins its gone down 12%
Finally an Android tablet with NO lag. Won me over. Ice Cream Sandwich > iOS.
Alright!!! let the quad-core phone come now!!! :D
"Asus has said that ice cream sandwich will be coming on it" O know its sick, but I can't be the only one who laughed, right?
Hope that that 12 hour battery life is real.............
Would u plz do a video comparison between TF prime and the original Tf ???
Size weight and stuff
Lets wait for ICS
How can he be taken seriously when he says the back of the tablet is made of plastic? It's freaking aluminum, how do you make that mistake?
@PieceOfArtwork13 I literally have the exact same problem. My friend is trying to convince me to get the prime. It's more future proof. Many new apps will be optimized for quad core, so you might eventually need more horsepower. Go for the Prime
The back is brushed aluminum...
wow this looks SO much like iPad 2
still lags in the browser
I think so many cores on this device is not even better than the two core in the iPad 2
hope it's going to get better when ice cream sandwich comes out
No not treu, the fifth core is added by ASUS not nvidia, this one isn't part of the tegra 3
@jeffreyparke No, that is tablet alone, quote time with dock is 18 hours on their website.
I wanted to see quadrant standard.
I only have sound in my right ear?
@dstocks205 There are Bluetooth controllers that work with the tablet by itself and there are USB controllers that can be used with the keyboard dock.
