I just want to say THANK YOU, I broke my arm five months ago & recently came across this video a few days ago, I wish I’d a found it a few months ago but now have my full motion back in my arm. Just working on getting my strength back now, you’re Godsend
I've had to deal with a brachial plexus injury from birth, having nerves taken out of my calves to make my arm at least somewhat usable. So for my 23 years of life I haven't been able to fully use my right arm, as a result it's gotten weaker and smaller than my left. I might not ever be able to get it to fully extend, but here's hoping that I can at least restore my rotation to some degree through doing these exercises.
Holy crap thanks so much! I really needed this. When I was around 11 years old I ended up breaking my wrist due to me attempting to preform a "backflip" off a swing set. I ended up fracturing my left elbow, which casting led to me only gaining around 60% supination and 100% pronation. This was horrible for me, as I played guitar frequently at the time and could not play most of the notes on the fret-board. Thanks to you, I am now able to resume my 90% supination and am able to play all the notes on my guitar without problem!
Hi Michelle My name is Lina - I found your videos on You Tube and I wanted to thank you for the great information and reassuring commentary which I value during my distal radius fracture recovery ( injury almost 9 weeks ago) I was able to avoid surgery but boy the stiffness associated with supination is a challenge due to ongoing swelling) - other functionality is coming back nicely and faster so far - will keep working on it and keep patient as well! best wishes from Toronto Canada

@@sushilsalins3576 I broke my radius and ulna was dislocated. It took 3 weeks before I got surgery and now 6 weeks after surgery I am allowed to rotate my forearm but I can't move it much, it's blocked. 10-15 degrees is what I can do and it's a bit frustrating but I see slow progress. I should rotate and hold it there for 5 sec, 3 times a day and after 2 weeks 5 times a day and it shouldn't hurt very much, max 5 of 10 where 10 is very painful. I can't bend my wrist very much either, about 30 degrees. How are you doing now?
NIce. Thank you. I added guitar to my piano skills 60 years ago. Easy piano playing for me. But supination of the guitar neck forearm is very limited. I developed workarounds, including "thumb chords" and working with open tunings to create surprises where I just can't do normal professional fingerings. I'm now 72 and it's supposed to be "too late" to do anything about it medically. But again today--flying over a guitar neck but crashing unnecessarily into the problem out at the end of the runway---here I am, looking some idea to improve my range. I will try your exercises

This is one of the best youtube videos ever for those of us with wrist issues. I wish you would train OTs to do what you do. Do you do private sessions? I am recovering from an open comminuted fracture of the ulna and radius and another bone that was disintegrated. Your exercises are giving me hope and I was not feeling that at all. Hi Mark, how many weeks before you started seeing improvements in supination? I’ve been exercising my arm since July 22 yet There’s no improvement of my supination :(
Thanks so much! You were really clear and that helped a lot. Thanks for explaining that the ulna doesn't move, but the radius does. My therapist didn't tell me that. Also, grateful that i can do some of these things while watching tv or walking. Helps a lot.

This is super helpful. My fingers and wrist and all the way up to my deltoid have been so stiff and sore. My rotation has been minimal. I thought this was something I would have to adapt to (live with) instead of fix. Now I feel hopeful. Thanks!

Thanks for providing this well explained insight. My supination of 45 degrees (as measured by a physiotherapist) plays havoc with trying to play barre chords on guitar. I'll now focus on stretching the muscles (etc) around my radius.

I love your videos. Thanks so much. I broke my wrist in November and was in a cast. I have tried physical therapy but with little success. Do you have any videos showing how to use a stack of plastic cups to help improve forearm rotation? Is that a good exercise?
I'm 4 weeks after fracture and 2 weeks post OP. Can't really supinate much. I've also had soreness in one of the anterior muscles. Overall the arm looks weak as hell. I hope it'll recover quickly. Tomorrow I'll see a physiatrist to start exercising.
I found these exercises very helpful easy to understand and very well demonstrated- it helps as I am 7 weeks since wrist plate operation- Thank you Michelle .
Thanks, great video! I’ve been researching all this supination stuff because I’ve been wanting to learn guitar and I got one for Christmas a couple years ago, but I realized it couldn’t do chords or barres on the frets farther at from my body because my supination wasn’t good on my left arm. I hope these help me to be able to one day play guitar comfortably without exerting all my efforts and muscle just to turn my arm and wrist to be able to play a chord!
Michelle, thank you for your videos! You have helped me more than my sessions of therapy. I had a fracture of the ulnar styloid and your exercises for supination are so effective. I followed also the extension exercises and it makes so much more sense to not go directly into flexion as my therapist suggested. It was so uncomfortable and was making little progress. Just by allowing the stretches to go deeper in extension I made significant progress with less pain. Your explanations are so good in how the forearm is moving and how the exercises should be done. So very helpful!🙏
Hi, I shattered both the radius and ulna very near the elbow on November 16, 2021, had rods, plates and screws implanted and am currently in PT and OT for Lymphedema rehab and to get function back. I have had progress with OT on flexion and extension of the forearm but have not had much success with supination, I currently cannot supinate very much at all. In addition, I have a lot of swelling and pain in my wrist and all fingers especially the pinky and ring fingers. The doctor ordered the supination Dynasplint and I have been using it for several weeks and only ended up with more wrist pain. So, I tried your supination exercises as well as the hand and wrist exercises and am thrilled with the increased ROM. Thank you so much for posting these.
Thanks for posting very interactive video explaing in details. I got surgery of wrist 21 days back and doctor suggested for giving movement to wrist, for which your post is realy great. Can you suggest what is expected time to recover from this atleast for my daily needs. Keep doing good job.
Thanks! Great video! I broke my radius on new year's eve- ulna popped through the skin and columnated radius. Got the volar plate and 11 screws. doing pretty well with rehab and getting better supination but not 100% (doc said it was a bad break and i might not get too 100 anyway) but that's getting better and there's been some helpful ideas in this video as well.
Wow, thanks for your knowledge, great video. I'm 12 weeks into recovery and I've been struggling to roate my wrist fully. I've only just managed to get passed a. 1/4 turn from the neutral position with my own muscle strength, been having to use warm water and use my other hand as passive movement by pushing on just below my thumb to help it get further down. However, this always seems to cause pain to the pinky side of the my wrist, perhaps to much torque to the wrist. I'll give the above ago, and see how much I improve over the next few weeks, but you made some interesting comments, so hopefully more range and less pain 😁
@@VirtualHandCare Hey Michelle, overall very good thanks. Just one question, the ball exercise. Is it still okay to carry out for someone like me self who can't roate all the way over. And of so how many rep's would you suggest to carry out to help build up. Many thanks Edward

Me too.. Ive got the same fracture but ive got a plate upper and lower and 18 screws holding my radius together.. The exercises I've watched on her videos are amazing.. Ive gotten more movement from watching the vids than I got from my physio ay hospital..
All your video's are amazing! Helping me much better than physical therapy for a Colles fracture. Thank you, Michelle!

@@sushilsalins3576 hey it’s been 19 months since my accident, i fell of my bike and dislocated my elbow, fractured my coronoid and radial head plus tore my ulna ligament. Recovery was very challenging and a horrible experience. Since then I have lost around 30% of my ROM that I can’t seem to get back.

@@AdityaKhuller I would say I’ve lost 15% on pronation and supernation. Flextion and extension I’ve lost around 25% each. I haven’t tried one of those no one has recommended it to me. Doctors just said that I would lose some range.
I just want to say THANK YOU, I broke my arm five months ago & recently came across this video a few days ago, I wish I’d a found it a few months ago but now have my full motion back in my arm. Just working on getting my strength back now, you’re Godsend
How long after you started these exercises did you get full motion ?
Very nicely explained and shown.
Thank you very much for this.
Your videos have really helped me..
This is wonderful to hear!! Thank you for sharing 🙏

NIce.
Thank you very much. Excellent exercise after elbow surgery that my PT didn't mention.
After my forearm fractured healed and removed the cast.. all the joints of my elbow and wrist are swollen, and painful to move.. is it normal?
Broke my radius in two places on my left arm from playing basketball 2 weeks ago. Ended up getting one long rod and 9 screws to hold my bones together. Now that have my cast and sutures removed, regaining the normal arm motions is the next challenge. Thank you for your tips and I have been following them. Your videos are very helpful! ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks so much! You were really clear and that helped a lot. Thanks for explaining that the ulna doesn't move, but the radius does. My therapist didn't tell me that. Also, grateful that i can do some of these things while watching tv or walking. Helps a lot.
You are welcome! I am happy to hear these are helping. Good luck on recovery!

I love your videos. Thanks so much. I broke my wrist in November and was in a cast. I have tried physical therapy but with little success. Do you have any videos showing how to use a stack of plastic cups to help improve forearm rotation? Is that a good exercise?
Excellent coaching..
I hope this video can help with that!
Hi,
I shattered both the radius and ulna very near the elbow on November 16, 2021, had rods, plates and screws implanted and am currently in PT and OT for Lymphedema rehab and to get function back.

Hi Dr. Thanks for all the tips for all. I have a question please give me me. I can't hold fast to anything right now is this video please ???
Your welcome! Let me know how these go for you!
