      Facts. Its weird how a lot of rappers have a stutter growing up

    • @conwellkid
      @conwellkid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +86

      I can't speak for other rappers but from my personal experience, I can definitely say rap was a significant part in the growth of my confidence in how I spoke. Being picked on as a kid for my stuttering I developed a fear of holding back what I wanted to say, so much content over the years held back because of fear. Rapping helped me not only speak my thoughts in a creative way but in my normal conversation voice my stuttering decreased significantly. It's still there sometimes but compared to how it was prior to me rapping, BRUH so much difference lol

    • @jescorpizo7614
      @jescorpizo7614 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@conwellkid I think i can kind of relate. I used to be picked on by a lot kids growing up because I spoke very eloquently at a young age so I'd try to throw slang into my sentences until it was so unnatural that I developed a stutter. Then I found rap and how many artists were actually well respected for speaking the truth behind it all. 2pac may not have had a college level way of speaking but his charisma and knowledge was enough to get the attention of so many and they understood exactly his message. So nowadays when I speak in person to person conversations im able to articulate what I want to say with deliberate inflections in my voice to emphasize what im trying to say without doing so much. Yeah I still stutter too but I'm able to get by by having confidence in what im saying. Kind of shifted from rapping to just spoken word. For me personally it allows me to say what I want to say without having to really worry about structuring a bar into a specific beat

    I'll say this about Kendrick, he just speaks to young black men in a way that some artists have trouble doing. It is sometimes hard to listen to a rapper talkimg about gang shit when you cant relate. Not to say that rapping about gang stuff is bad, but the Kenny talks about that Black mentality.
    To Pimp a Butterfly will always album be my favorite not cause it was my introduction to Kenny, but for some odd reason my mindset changed when I heard the album. Can't explain it but I think Kendrick helps young black men get through some shit that we take for granted or dont know about yet

    • @PK-po9lf
      @PK-po9lf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Dude Even though I’m a white, my mindset also completely changed after listening to TPAB and that’s also why it’s my favorite album. As a privileged white teen I didn’t really understand true problems in the world until I started listening to K.dot and TPAB was what changed me. Helped me see the world in a new perspective

    • @zyonhenderson67
      @zyonhenderson67 4 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      @@PK-po9lf Thats another thing. White people like yourself have to be educated on racial injustice while black men must be educated on racial clarity. I for one think that TPAB should be listened to all Americans to dive into the black male psyche.

      Z Henderson Yeah dude one love ✊ Just from observing the people around me I think one of the main problem is that most white suburbans have such a closed mind. I remember listening to To Pimp a Butterfly for the first time when I was 13, I was still pretty young so my mind was free and open, since then I’ve never turned back, probably listened to the album 50 times while learning something new each session. On the contrary I tried showing this really conservative dude TPAB, and he was just so closed minded to the point where he couldn’t even try to understand things from Kendrick’s point of view. I feel like it’s all about understanding but I don’t know I’m just a teen

      PK 0302 same here man, growing up in an area like myself as a white teenager, there wasn’t tons of African Americans at my school growing up in your typical suburbs but once I began listening to Kendrick, it made me want to understand more and not just be ignorant to the worlds problems, that didn’t concern myself. It made me angry to see all the hurt going on and it compelled me to listen and try to understand what I can do better as a human being living on this earth. I know that sounds corny but it really is the truth. I’m 19 now and coming into my sophomore year in college and it really amazes me how deep Kendrick’s music is and how it applies to America today. It made me listen more and he really is someone that others can look to and teach the world about the strife and suffering. I wish more of my peers did the same because these problems aren’t going away so we need to work together to solve them. That’s my ideal future. 🙏 sorry for the paragraph lol

    Kendrick Lamar is something different in hip-hop. He's completely in hip-hop's traditions, has all the elements of hip-hop, and yet feels like he operates on a different level from other hip-hop artists.
    I've never heard a hip-hop artist as consistent or conceptual as he is. His production choices are also almost always well chosen and serve a larger purpose.

    ADHD was my intro to Kendrick. My ex and I had that song on repeat. Then came GKMC. We used to drink and hang out with GKMC playing, rapping along and vibing. We have different tastes in music but Kendrick always brought us together. Some great memories. Shit I'm getting nostalgic 🥹

    This video hits home for me in so many ways. I’m from Compton and Kendrick’s music has always spoke volumes to me and I can genuinely say, that I was put on Kendrick very early on. My brother would bump his old mixtapes all the time, go to his concerts, hell Kendrick even revealed HiiiPower at the concert my brother went to. So saying that this made me feel nostalgic would be an understatement. I may be biased because I’m from Compton but in my eyes Kendrick is without a doubt my favorite rappers ever and is one of the greatest to ever do it. I was a fan before he even appeared on the billboard, before he was the biggest on TDE, and seeing him where he is makes me happy because he came where I come from.

    Don’t given Kendrick a savior complex. While he may seem deserving of the title, I’d like to think that his intentions while making music isn’t to be praised for it, although I’m sure he understands the magnitude his words have. To me, it comes off as words that must be said for the greater good, whether it be to further his career or to further his people, which he’s a part of. To set him up as some savior would mean acknowledging in some way(s), that he’s *better* than us and we’re unfit to save ourselves, which I don’t think Kendrick believes.
    “Mortal man” does this comment all the more justice. “When shit his the fan, is you still a fan?” Because many want to grant Kendrick said complex, he has no room for mistakes. How will you feel when your “savior” lets you down? It’s better off to discard that title ahead of time.
    This isn’t to discredit the things he’s done and is going to do but to put them in a different light.

    I just got into listening to his music. I got my introduction through DAMN (which quickly became an everyday essential), but I’ve been working my way backwards ever since. And although I don’t even live in America or have anything even close to the stories his songs tell, I just listen to them and sometimes I get really emotional and start crying. Kendrick is a legend, and although I got into it a little late, I’m still so grateful I decided to listen to him.

    I know this comment could potentially start a flamewar but there's no one in this man's class. People cite J.Cole but there's no artistry category in which Cole is remotely close to Kendrick. Kendrick is a once in a generation artist and I'm interested to see who the next incarnate will be for future generations.
