The game followed the novel of Luo Guan Zhong, not actual history. The actual history was different. Lu Bu was not a shameful man like this, at all. Also, Diao Chan was a made up character by Luo Guan Zhong too!

Impressed by Zhang Liao's righteousness and courage, Cao Cao then put down his sword and personally unbound Zhang Liao, though not before executing Lu Bu.
The voice cast for so many Dynasty Warriors is so iconic. Lu Bu and Cao Cao's voices are so damn powerful in the old games. DW9 really dropped the ball with the voice cast.

Despite this huge betrayal and the years spent fight against Cao Cao to the bitter end, when it came time to be executed, Cao Cao was desperately trying to convince him to go under his service again. Chen Gong refused, but not out of spite. Rather, he told Cao Cao to uphold the law and execute him for both his betrayal and his earlier offer to surrender or otherwise undermine his own authority. Isaiah Seno Same here. They should've spent more time on the game considering it is a huge change from the ways they have given it in the past 8 titles. They should've waited for the Union strike to be over and used that time to test their game, add things, kink out the glitches, fix the lip syncing, and possibly have gotten the original actors back together or found better ones and so much more.
Agree!! Back in dw 5, they actually hire well known voice actor / actresses. They actually put effort on the lines and voice acting, but when we see the dw 9 not only the lines are messed up and bad the voice acting really fits the line. Just awful.

OMG, DW8's Chen Gong was such an injustice to the story. Cao Cao and Chen Gong had a much deeper and tragic relationship. Cao Cao wanted to let Chen Gong live for helping him when he was a fugitive on the run.

@@remmychevalier2552 Yeah. Only traces of it in 6 is that he fights against Cao Cao often in the stories of Lu Bu and Diao Chan. He mostly comes off very level headed most of the time (which helps given who he works for). I simply do a little headcanon where Gongtai does hold the grudge but keeps it to himself and chooses not to dwell on it after Cao Cao is defeated. I've watched the Three Kingdoms many times, by the way. Great series.
He's got a different ideology from Cao Cao, despite not hating Cao Cao as a person he couldn't simply bring himself to serve Cao Cao as that would go against his principles and values. What a true sigma male that is.
Glad Cao Cao was able to see Zhang Liao’s character, being an honorable, loyal and humble person, if it wasn’t for that, He Fei would’ve been a huge loss.
Zhang Liao was a soldier through and through. He followed orders and inspired men to be more than what they thought they could be, leading to one of the most bad ass, downright improbable actions that you thought Lu Bu and Zhang Liao did a body swap when he stormed Sun Quan's main camp during the Siege of He Fei.
Can we just talk about the fact that Lu Bu's and Cao Cao's voice actors are SO iconic? Like, if I met any of them in real life I would assume I'm talking to resurrected warriors that lived two thousand years ago. Furthermore, HOW could Koei think that changing their voice actors for DW9 was a good idea? Now when I'm playing it, I'm no longer scared shitless when I see Lu Bu on the battlefield, like I was in previous games. I'd literally take time for a 30 minute prayer before crossing blades with him at Hu Lao Gate. Most of the time, I couldn't even deliver a single blow at him because he was always the ULTIMATE boss, even when you're literally on the second mission. But in DW9, you can firstly die of laughter because his new voice actor is really funny, and you can also kill him with only your Musou attack. They really fucked up. Also why is Lu Lingqi's weapon changed? It was also really iconic to see her inherit her father's legendary weapon in DW8, where she was possibly the strongest female character (when she's upgraded to the fullest), but now she has the same weapon as Xing Cai and I'm already over her, even if she's my favorite character. Disappointed.
In Dynasty Warriors Empires 9, they reinstated the crossed blade for Lu Lingqui, but still too lazy to match her Musou with it, she just reverts to sword and shield musou
I thought this was common knowledge but there was a big strike with voice actors going on when DW9 was in production and as a result the normal English VAs were unavailable and they had to change them to a bunch of lower tier and unknown people.
Historically, it was Liu Bei who was the final word that condemned Lu Bu to death as Cao Cao was very close to recruiting him until Liu Bei reminded him of Dong Zhuo's betrayal and death at the hands of Lu Bu. At that moment, Lu Bu cursed and threatened Liu Bei for mentioning this to Cao Cao. For this, Cao Cao condemned Lu Bu to death by hanging. Cao Cao truly believed he did the world a favor by executing Lu Bu.
This is also a part of why I like 9 is because it shows how the three Leaders virtues and flaws shape them. Even if Lu Bu remains loyal because Cao Cao admires his strength he was no better than a Tyrant who believe might makes right rather than ambition. Funny how in Techi wo Kurau he doesn't do that and uses Lu Bu as his triumph card
@@MrAsaqe Actually historically, Cao Cao was a good man but felt he had to be harsh and sometimes cruel to achieve his goals. This is why he respected Liu Bei despite them being enemies. They had similar goals, but how they went about them, is what made them enemies in the end. Cao Cao is portrayed as evil or cruel because he showed that side in his campaigns against Wu and Shu. He showed them what they needed to see. Hero, Villian, Conqueror, Savior. Those words applied to Darth Revan in Star Wars but those same words could be applied to others like Cao Cao. Or Nobunaga Oda. After doing some research into Cao Cao, I came to understand him better as a whole and the situation he was put into in his life. Its about stepping back to see the entire picture. If anyone was about selfish gains for power, that was his advisor that replaced Guo Jia....Sima Yi. Cao Cao knew Sima Yi was a threat to all he fought for, but at the same time he was too invaluable to throw away either.
DW8 Xtreme Legends did it best with all three characters. Cheng Gong's and Lu Bu's arrogance did them in, and Zhang Liao acted with true principle. Not only that, but their facial animations, voice lines, and ambiance was phenominal. Even the bit with Lu Lingqui was so tear-jerking. You could really see the anguish on her face as she finally turns her back on her father and Lu Bu's protective instincts as her father.
Didn't like how they depicted chen gong's death in 8 but 9 was a lot closer to his real life event. He was one of the best strategists around but he chose the worst leader to follow.
The new voice actor of Chen gong wasn't that bad he just had unnecessary pauses. I feel if the new voice actor simply retook his lines and delivered them better he would be a great voice actor.
Yeah, he had potential but it truly felt like they were reading the scripts pretty... bland with their acting experiences, especially I see most of those actors who voices other open world online games.
Dw 8 XL Is the most spectacular scene,even Lu bu make his daughter escape,and before getting killed he even free himself and try to win,Is amazing. I like to see Lu Bu more of a honorable,still indipendent warrior how he is.

I always imagined that he learned about diao Chan being a spy and that she was controlling him that got him into drinking but then I learned that she's either not real or such a small character in history that they didn't bother recording her.
Chen Gong is a Hans vassal, he choose Lubu because of his foolish so one day, he will backstab Lubu when everything is done. Those clever people like Cao Cao or Liubei is not suitable for that role. Beside, Cao Cao always known to aim for the emperor title himself, a Hans Vassal shall never serve a people like him.
In DW9 he was portrayed quite well, I actually found the discussion between him and Cao Cao quite good. Cao Cao desperately wants him to join, and so tells him that he will kill his men unless he surrenders and bends the knee, Chen Gong then states that the victor would dictate the rules, which puts the blame on Cao Cao if anything happens to his men, regardless of whether Chen Gong bends the knee or not, smartly allowing him to oppose Cao Cao, whilst also saving the lives of his men.
I wish the portion with Chen Gong was a little more in line with the book, it's a very powerful moment that shows a little more of the human side of Cao Cao.
Lu Bu was not big on logistics but he did have a mind for strategy and combat all these representations of him as a total moron for the strength are ridiculously inaccurate and he did betray several he served but not without a valid reason especially considering his adoptive father tried to murder him so Lu Bu just killed him first. He even surrendered to save lives of his men when he could've fought to the bitter end and take many, many of the enemy with him.
It's always good to have someone point it out in the comments. The character portrayals in DW are hysterical and comical, but not everyone might catch that.
Yea I'm pretty convinced that the best Adaptation of this Tale is by the Manga "Ravages of Time", also their Lu Bu is just so much more thoughtful... And not just a stupid Brute

According to the Romance of Three Kingdoms Era, Cao Cao was about to let Lu Bu Serve under him but then Liu Bei reminded Cao Cao that Lu Bu once served under Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu barked threats at Liu Bei but those were to be the last words he ever spoke. The ever Not-so-Popular Dynasty Warriors Anime didn't portray that at all but Kongmeng could have wrote an entire Manga on what happened during that era. In other scenario games like Dynasty Tactics, You can let Lu Bu live but Lu Bu had a history of Betrayal in his ranks of Officers so that much was also something to keep in mind. My Brother was playing it at one time. Let Lu Bu Join Cao Cao and Xiahou Dun Betrays you. Not only that, Expect a VERY Long Game. The Time was maxed out to 99:59 on how many battles were fought after that. Also.... How "Smart" is Lu Bu?
The one case with his daughter getting involved in the attempt to save his life but he safrificed his life to save his daughters is something not worthy.
Though, the philosophical advise from Chen Gong makes some power stuff for Cao Cao to think about. I wonder if it was one of the reasons that made him recruit Zhang Liao.
With DW8 XL, the situation was awkward and how they portrayed the characters was out of character. With DW9, the situation was so childish. "It's called strategy, Lu Bu." - What was this written by, your average 8th grader?
if only they'd had made the levels more interactable, and populated the open world a little more instead of mixing the open world with the battle levels in 9 it might have been good.....sads, ah well maybe with ten they'll figure it out
while i never played any of the dynasty warriors, i only have total war 3 kingdoms, Lu Bu is still just as much of a powerful beast in it as he is portrayed in this series

That scene in DW8, is unforgettable. I come back to watch it every now and then. I grew up with dynasty warriors, lu bu was more than just some hard-to-beat enemy, or a vagrant badass. He was an icon, and always has been. That DW8 death scene, was the death scene he deserved.
This Dynasty Warriors 7 and 8 in Cutscene looks like Speaking English in English Dub when Dynasty Warriors 9 in Cutscene looks like Speaking Japanese in Chinese and English Dub.

@@remmychevalier2552 Yeah. Only traces of it in 6 is that he fights against Cao Cao often in the stories of Lu Bu and Diao Chan. He mostly comes off very level headed most of the time (which helps given who he works for). I simply do a little headcanon where Gongtai does hold the grudge but keeps it to himself and chooses not to dwell on it after Cao Cao is defeated.
I've watched the Three Kingdoms many times, by the way. Great series.
He's got a different ideology from Cao Cao, despite not hating Cao Cao as a person he couldn't simply bring himself to serve Cao Cao as that would go against his principles and values. What a true sigma male that is.

Glad Cao Cao was able to see Zhang Liao’s character, being an honorable, loyal and humble person, if it wasn’t for that, He Fei would’ve been a huge loss.

Zhang Liao was a soldier through and through. He followed orders and inspired men to be more than what they thought they could be, leading to one of the most bad ass, downright improbable actions that you thought Lu Bu and Zhang Liao did a body swap when he stormed Sun Quan's main camp during the Siege of He Fei.
Can we just talk about the fact that Lu Bu's and Cao Cao's voice actors are SO iconic? Like, if I met any of them in real life I would assume I'm talking to resurrected warriors that lived two thousand years ago. Furthermore, HOW could Koei think that changing their voice actors for DW9 was a good idea? Now when I'm playing it, I'm no longer scared shitless when I see Lu Bu on the battlefield, like I was in previous games. I'd literally take time for a 30 minute prayer before crossing blades with him at Hu Lao Gate. Most of the time, I couldn't even deliver a single blow at him because he was always the ULTIMATE boss, even when you're literally on the second mission. But in DW9, you can firstly die of laughter because his new voice actor is really funny, and you can also kill him with only your Musou attack. They really fucked up. Also why is Lu Lingqi's weapon changed? It was also really iconic to see her inherit her father's legendary weapon in DW8, where she was possibly the strongest female character (when she's upgraded to the fullest), but now she has the same weapon as Xing Cai and I'm already over her, even if she's my favorite character. Disappointed.
Set it on 7 and take him on.
In Dynasty Warriors Empires 9, they reinstated the crossed blade for Lu Lingqui, but still too lazy to match her Musou with it, she just reverts to sword and shield musou

I thought this was common knowledge but there was a big strike with voice actors going on when DW9 was in production and as a result the normal English VAs were unavailable and they had to change them to a bunch of lower tier and unknown people.

Historically, it was Liu Bei who was the final word that condemned Lu Bu to death as Cao Cao was very close to recruiting him until Liu Bei reminded him of Dong Zhuo's betrayal and death at the hands of Lu Bu. At that moment, Lu Bu cursed and threatened Liu Bei for mentioning this to Cao Cao. For this, Cao Cao condemned Lu Bu to death by hanging. Cao Cao truly believed he did the world a favor by executing Lu Bu.
This is also a part of why I like 9 is because it shows how the three Leaders virtues and flaws shape them. Even if Lu Bu remains loyal because Cao Cao admires his strength he was no better than a Tyrant who believe might makes right rather than ambition.
Funny how in Techi wo Kurau he doesn't do that and uses Lu Bu as his triumph card
@@MrAsaqe Actually historically, Cao Cao was a good man but felt he had to be harsh and sometimes cruel to achieve his goals. This is why he respected Liu Bei despite them being enemies. They had similar goals, but how they went about them, is what made them enemies in the end. Cao Cao is portrayed as evil or cruel because he showed that side in his campaigns against Wu and Shu. He showed them what they needed to see. Hero, Villian, Conqueror, Savior. Those words applied to Darth Revan in Star Wars but those same words could be applied to others like Cao Cao. Or Nobunaga Oda. After doing some research into Cao Cao, I came to understand him better as a whole and the situation he was put into in his life. Its about stepping back to see the entire picture. If anyone was about selfish gains for power, that was his advisor that replaced Guo Jia....Sima Yi. Cao Cao knew Sima Yi was a threat to all he fought for, but at the same time he was too invaluable to throw away either.
the voice acting was actually improving with each game, dw9 really comes off like they fired everyone who worked on the previous games.
DW8 Xtreme Legends did it best with all three characters. Cheng Gong's and Lu Bu's arrogance did them in, and Zhang Liao acted with true principle. Not only that, but their facial animations, voice lines, and ambiance was phenominal. Even the bit with Lu Lingqui was so tear-jerking. You could really see the anguish on her face as she finally turns her back on her father and Lu Bu's protective instincts as her father.
I think 7/8 was more accurate with their dialogue though?

Didn't like how they depicted chen gong's death in 8 but 9 was a lot closer to his real life event. He was one of the best strategists around but he chose the worst leader to follow.
I really like how Zhang Liao is the most honorable among them in every game! He's my second favorite character after Xiahou Dun.

The new voice actor of Chen gong wasn't that bad he just had unnecessary pauses. I feel if the new voice actor simply retook his lines and delivered them better he would be a great voice actor.
Yeah, he had potential but it truly felt like they were reading the scripts pretty... bland with their acting experiences, especially I see most of those actors who voices other open world online games.
Dw 8 XL Is the most spectacular scene,even Lu bu make his daughter escape,and before getting killed he even free himself and try to win,Is amazing. I like to see Lu Bu more of a honorable,still indipendent warrior how he is.

I always imagined that he learned about diao Chan being a spy and that she was controlling him that got him into drinking but then I learned that she's either not real or such a small character in history that they didn't bother recording her.

Chen Gong was an honorable man. He wasn't depicted very well here. He had a grudge against Cao Cao and so would never join him.
Chen Gong is a Hans vassal, he choose Lubu because of his foolish so one day, he will backstab Lubu when everything is done.
Those clever people like Cao Cao or Liubei is not suitable for that role. Beside, Cao Cao always known to aim for the emperor title himself, a Hans Vassal shall never serve a people like him.

In DW9 he was portrayed quite well, I actually found the discussion between him and Cao Cao quite good.
Cao Cao desperately wants him to join, and so tells him that he will kill his men unless he surrenders and bends the knee, Chen Gong then states that the victor would dictate the rules, which puts the blame on Cao Cao if anything happens to his men, regardless of whether Chen Gong bends the knee or not, smartly allowing him to oppose Cao Cao, whilst also saving the lives of his men.
And then he had to fight a fucking thor

I wish the portion with Chen Gong was a little more in line with the book, it's a very powerful moment that shows a little more of the human side of Cao Cao.
Lu Bu was not big on logistics but he did have a mind for strategy and combat all these representations of him as a total moron for the strength are ridiculously inaccurate and he did betray several he served but not without a valid reason especially considering his adoptive father tried to murder him so Lu Bu just killed him first. He even surrendered to save lives of his men when he could've fought to the bitter end and take many, many of the enemy with him.
It's always good to have someone point it out in the comments. The character portrayals in DW are hysterical and comical, but not everyone might catch that.

According to the Romance of Three Kingdoms Era, Cao Cao was about to let Lu Bu Serve under him but then Liu Bei reminded Cao Cao that Lu Bu once served under Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu barked threats at Liu Bei but those were to be the last words he ever spoke. The ever Not-so-Popular Dynasty Warriors Anime didn't portray that at all but Kongmeng could have wrote an entire Manga on what happened during that era.
In other scenario games like Dynasty Tactics, You can let Lu Bu live but Lu Bu had a history of Betrayal in his ranks of Officers so that much was also something to keep in mind. My Brother was playing it at one time. Let Lu Bu Join Cao Cao and Xiahou Dun Betrays you. Not only that, Expect a VERY Long Game. The Time was maxed out to 99:59 on how many battles were fought after that.

I grew up with dynasty warriors, lu bu was more than just some hard-to-beat enemy, or a vagrant badass. He was an icon, and always has been.
That DW8 death scene, was the death scene he deserved.
This Dynasty Warriors 7 and 8 in Cutscene looks like Speaking English in English Dub when Dynasty Warriors 9 in Cutscene looks like Speaking Japanese in Chinese and English Dub.
