Historically, Liu Bei becomes absolutely reckless after Guan Yu and Zhang Fei died. This caused a great defeat for Shu at Yi Ling and that is where their whole kingdom begins to fall apart. Without Zhuge Liang, Shu would've never had a foot step in the doorway. Sadly all the burden was left on Zhuge Liang which in my opinion caused him to die of sickness.
Janette Fujiwara Zhuge Liang is the one who brought the ignition between Shu and Wu from the first place, he shouldn't have used Wu's forces to take their own bases and territories back when Zhou Yu was alive. Being used is what made Wu turns against Shu thanks to Zhuge Liang. So if anyone to blame, it's Zhuge Liang himself for his own mistakes that led to the huge burden on him at the end.
Actually, after Fa Zheng died, Shu was pretty much fucked. Fa Zheng was the only strategist that Zhuge Liang was feared off. If he lived much longer, Fa Zheng could even make Sima Yi his bitch.
Well that's your opinion..... why did Wu keep pushing for peace after they allowed this to happen. They knew what they were doing, Wu got what they deservd, EARNED. If your going to use that logic...you might as well say Wu signed their on death warrant, because after that Cao Cao, turned his full might upon them.

It feels like Dynasty Warriors is like Groundhog Day, and Zhuge Liang is the only one who remembers everything. So by the time of 7th loop (DW8) he's not even trying.

I love how every DW tells the same story every time, but every time you feel like you're watching it for the first time. Mainly due new direction and more characters with each iteration. It's like every DW game it's a remake of previous one.
DW5's version will always stand out to me because the grief is very brief, and it goes straight to vengeance despite the strategical advantage of overcoming the real enemy. Liu Bei grasps for the sword even with that in mind, and is all "No, my brother tho!". DW5's cutscenes don't really hold on despair all that much, they employ action and bravery far more than they do lament.
I was gonna say dw5 is my personal favorite because it really shows a turning point/developement for liu bei. in the dw games shown later on they emphasis how i guess in ways "light hearted/kind hearted" person he his and they double down on that, with the exception of 5 and 7 where in 5 it was brief moment of grief before very fast giving into his sorrow and rage where he marched off to prepare for war. in 7 they kept more of the active rage moment while fleshing out the whole ordeal, i give special exceptions to 6 for the facial detail shows a level of genuine shock/surprise as it really looks like hes trying to process the news of guan yu death and not trying to break at the same time. but 5 i felt if they had also added zhange fei death news and expand on that at that time, it wouldve been the best hands down without debate imo
In the DW7 cutscene Sun Xiang falling on her knees is like: "Oh shit, OH SHIT!" That being said, DW7 has the best cutscene in terms of emotion, voice acting and setting in my opinion, you can even feel that this isn't a warm and gentle sunset, just a gloomy one.
7 was amazing. the cutscenes and voice acting was done so well. the animations. it felt so realistic and i was able to actually emotionally connect to the stories. 8 is next in line.
7 was definitely the best emotional performance. But gotta say I do love the moment in 6 where Zhang Fei says what are you waiting for and right at hearing the word revenge you can kinda see Liu bei's sanity snap.
Dw7 gave me chills the first time I seen it and it gave me chills now too. The screams, the animation... You can see and almost feel the pain in that scene. Very nicely done

You know. There could be an interesting way to portrayal. Cause he sorta did betray Cao Cao and Lui Zhang.(and Sun Quan) He is sorta a paragon in these games, and his paragoness led him to betray those people. Those betrayals come back to bite and in the end he loses everything. Its pretty tragic. I love it.
This is the moment where virtue goes out the window, the very foundation of Shu itself. Evidently, the moment Shu fought without virtue in mind was the moment it fell apart as a kingdom.
After Guan Yu's death, Liu Bei isn't himself anymore and wants revenge. Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun don't think it's a good think to attack Wu but they can't turn there master. It's sad for Liu Bei even Sun Shang Xiang has to see Liu Bei like this.
Not actually . History never mentions that he was a drunkard . Luo Guangzhong wrote that in ROTK to excuse his cruel behavior because ''Let it slide , he is drunk.'' . He did a lot of atrocities .
Agreed, if u play ROTK 13 you will know all the story, the reason why Lu Bu can take over Xia Pi is because of him, when Liu Bei and Guan Yu was sent by Imperial Order to suppress Yuan Shu rebellion, he was left in charge in Xia Pi, Guan Yu stated a disagreement of this due to his violent behavior when he's drunk, but Zhang Fei promises that he will not drunk and Liu Bei is too kind to doubt Zhang Fei loyalty so they leave with Cao Bao as adviser, however he brokes his promises and beating Cao Bao who tried to remind him about his promise, Cao Bao got angry and tells Lu Bu how to capture Xia Pi
True Colors ? Wu tried their very best to maintain the alliance but Shu wouldn't fulfill their.promise of returning the land. Guan Yu even insulted Sun Quan and stole some supplies from a base in Wu's border.
Shen Wei And Wu paid for that act of aggression lol. They should have let shy INVADE Wei like how they PLANNED but Wu grew greedy/needy. Neither one could beat the Wei alone but Wu HAD to betray Shi at THEE pivotal moment......Blame shy all you want but after Chi No they took lands for they had non BUT we're going to give some of the lands back AFTER the war ended. Wu was lucky also that at this time Cao Cao grew I'll and died. If he lived he would surely have finished off Wu after Shi attacked. He'll maybe he would have allied with Liu Bri just so he can lure Liu Bri into false security in his weaken state.
After Liu Qi's death Wu accepted to borrow the province to Liu Bei, by the time of Guan Yu's murder, Shu was fulfilling their promise, half of the province was Wu's. But Sun Quan allied with the enemy that tried to rob his land, attacked Liu Bei and allowed a fool Lu Meng to kill Guan Yu and cause a needless rivalry
@@zhugeliang7832 Zhou Cang is a fictional Character, I accept Wu tried to maintain the alliance but Sun Quan already planned to kill Guan Yu even before all this. So much so that even Cao Cao knew he wanted Jing province and used it against him to team against Guan Yu. So in all Sun Quan planned to attack Guan Yu long before as its indicated many ways. He was failing to defeat and fight back Wei so he wanted to team with them at that point.
Dw6 stands out to me because even though it is the only one that stays historically accurate by having zhangfei present (rather than him being just an offscreen death mention) imo its still the worst emotion wise. Dw5 is my childhood and i love the anger in that one. Dw7 is hands down the best mix of anger and sadness, the most dramatic. Dw8 fancastle battle and this cutscene afterwards focuses more on the story of guanyus children carrying on his legacy, thats why it feels so different. I do like that they mention sunshangxiangs struggle of family vs husband.
What I like is that even without a single word, Shang Xiang manages to tell an entire story about all the turmoil she goes through in that scene. Stoic and silent, fist over her heart to keep herself strong, then falling on her knees and gasping for air in a full panic attack as the weight of the situation crushes her, then staring at Liu Bei with terrified wild eyes with fear that he's going to unleash his wrath on her first. Koei did amazing for the storytelling and cinematography part of DW7.
Now, I might be the odd one out here but I honestly did like DW8's rendition of the scene. DW7 did a wonderful job at powerfully expressing Liu Bei's sorrow and anger, but the value in DW8's rendition is how the scene was executed. From Guan Yu's death being reported by his grieving sons and daughter to Liu Bei's distraught turning into a tranquil fury. It's like he still holds his dream of unification and benevolence in his heart, but you can tell from his voice and the look in his eyes at the end of the scene that his vision is clouded by sadness and anger. That being said, I understand why a majority do seem to prefer the DW7 version and I might have to agree that it is the best of all the renditions of the scene. It definitely tugs at your heartstrings. But I would disagree that DW8's version was THAT bad; it's just that it is not directly emotional as it is more subtly so.
Agreed. 7 was compensating from the disappointment from 6, where they placed Liu Bei ignoring Zhang Fei's importance. 7's drama always get me emotional, but 8 has the weight of Guan Yu's kids carrying the last will.

I remember I read a theory somewhere long ago, pre-2015 that it was possible to save Guan Yu, but Zhuge Liang somehow decides to not to. Don't ask. I already forgot. But it's something to do with Zhuge Liang was not providing a reinforcement or something. (Edit): The death of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei was a sign of the end of the old generation. Not long after this, Liu Bei passed away due to the grief for losing the battle to revenge his brothers death. Cao Cao died not long after him. He suffered brain tumor or something, but the way the novel pictured it really something else (he had to ask several maids to wrap a cloth around his head and pull it together as strong as they could to ease the pain). I don't remember about Sun Quan, but he knew Guan Yu's death means business for Liu Bei. He was scared and tried to put the blame on Cao Cao by sending Guan Yu's head to him. Cao Cao don't want the smoke and decides to give Guan Yu a royal funeral instead. I don't remember how Sun Quan died, but I think it's not far from this event too.
im torn between Dw7 and 8 for best reactions.. 7 because of the emotion, 8 because Liu bei, who just lost his familly, apologizes to Sun Shang Xian, because he has to fight hers.
@@jemish_3353 the messed up part is that the order to not kill Guan Yu was just a bit late, with Sun and Liu Bei being married an alliance had been made and the orders to not kill Zhang Fei and Guan Yu were sent out. Being the Sworn brothers Of Liu Bei the then husband of Sun Shang, and thus part of the Sun familly. So not only did he fuk up, he by extension killed part of the familly he is sworn to protect.
7 certainly had the most emotion behind it, though my personal favorite is 5, mainly because I haven't played much of the others :D. "Attack Wei, and Wu will have no choice other than to surrender. Please, reconsider..." the "Neither of you, understand my pain! I MUST do it.." had the most impact on me personally.
Liu Bei had every right to go after Wu following the deaths of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, despite the pleas from both Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang that their main enemy was Wei.
If I heard that my biological brother or sister was killed by someone, of course I would be angry like Liu Bei, and KOEI can give you an idea what if Liu Bei managed to avenge Guan Yu's death in the battle of Yi Ling in the 6th dynasty warrior series, good job to the team from KOEI

The double gut punch of losing Guan Yu and Zhang Fei is portrayed brilliantly in dw7. Gotta say though dw6's battle without justice is still my favorite music to go along with the stage
More and more as the games progress I feel the more useless characters are come up. Why did every child of Guan Yu needed to be made? The only one of any interest was Guan Ping.
Anthony .Varone Shu seem to always get useless characters. Wei on the other usually gets the best characters (DW8 being their best since they introduced Li Dian, Xun Yu, Yue Jin and Yu Jin who all had important roles). Koei should really start introducing important characters for Shu like Liao Hua (seriously though, it pisses me off how a character like Bao Sanniang gets introduced before him)
Look as in armor design or face? If you talking about facial appearance, i really agree on that. There's too many babyface and childish characters especially in Shu. (Though i must admit, Wei really need one of those)
To be fair both his sons go on to do a lot for Shu. His Daughter was unnecessary though. I don't like the way they made them in the game though. They are too kiddy and Anime like.
Liu Bei dw5 & dw6 is pure rage. Liu Bei 7 and 8 is broken. But in every battle with WU after this, he's a damn monster! Liu Bei turns into Lu Bu on those maps! It's glorious!
While DW7 has the most emotion, I honestly prefer the more restrained, if you can call it that, tone of DW5. It just hits those notes of not only is he full of grief, but also how that grief near instantly shifts to a blind, vengeful rage that not even Zhao Yun or Zhuge Liang can temper. Masterful.

The superior version is if the two were edited together. Right as Liu gets up it cuts to him walking out the gate to be greeted by Yu's kids.

Shen Wei And Wu paid for that act of aggression lol. They should have let shy INVADE Wei like how they PLANNED but Wu grew greedy/needy. Neither one could beat the Wei alone but Wu HAD to betray Shi at THEE pivotal moment......Blame shy all you want but after Chi No they took lands for they had non BUT we're going to give some of the lands back AFTER the war ended.
Wu was lucky also that at this time Cao Cao grew I'll and died. If he lived he would surely have finished off Wu after Shi attacked. He'll maybe he would have allied with Liu Bri just so he can lure Liu Bri into false security in his weaken state.
After Liu Qi's death Wu accepted to borrow the province to Liu Bei, by the time of Guan Yu's murder, Shu was fulfilling their promise, half of the province was Wu's. But Sun Quan allied with the enemy that tried to rob his land, attacked Liu Bei and allowed a fool Lu Meng to kill Guan Yu and cause a needless rivalry

@@zhugeliang7832 Zhou Cang is a fictional Character, I accept Wu tried to maintain the alliance but Sun Quan already planned to kill Guan Yu even before all this. So much so that even Cao Cao knew he wanted Jing province and used it against him to team against Guan Yu. So in all Sun Quan planned to attack Guan Yu long before as its indicated many ways. He was failing to defeat and fight back Wei so he wanted to team with them at that point.

Dw6 stands out to me because even though it is the only one that stays historically accurate by having zhangfei present (rather than him being just an offscreen death mention) imo its still the worst emotion wise. Dw5 is my childhood and i love the anger in that one. Dw7 is hands down the best mix of anger and sadness, the most dramatic. Dw8 fancastle battle and this cutscene afterwards focuses more on the story of guanyus children carrying on his legacy, thats why it feels so different. I do like that they mention sunshangxiangs struggle of family vs husband.

7 definitely did it the best, had lots of emotion, even from sun xiang shang, which is very reasonable.
What I like is that even without a single word, Shang Xiang manages to tell an entire story about all the turmoil she goes through in that scene. Stoic and silent, fist over her heart to keep herself strong, then falling on her knees and gasping for air in a full panic attack as the weight of the situation crushes her, then staring at Liu Bei with terrified wild eyes with fear that he's going to unleash his wrath on her first.
Koei did amazing for the storytelling and cinematography part of DW7.
Now, I might be the odd one out here but I honestly did like DW8's rendition of the scene. DW7 did a wonderful job at powerfully expressing Liu Bei's sorrow and anger, but the value in DW8's rendition is how the scene was executed. From Guan Yu's death being reported by his grieving sons and daughter to Liu Bei's distraught turning into a tranquil fury. It's like he still holds his dream of unification and benevolence in his heart, but you can tell from his voice and the look in his eyes at the end of the scene that his vision is clouded by sadness and anger.
That being said, I understand why a majority do seem to prefer the DW7 version and I might have to agree that it is the best of all the renditions of the scene. It definitely tugs at your heartstrings. But I would disagree that DW8's version was THAT bad; it's just that it is not directly emotional as it is more subtly so.

Agreed. 7 was compensating from the disappointment from 6, where they placed Liu Bei ignoring Zhang Fei's importance. 7's drama always get me emotional, but 8 has the weight of Guan Yu's kids carrying the last will.
Liu bei on dw8 was like, not this again... my heart aches even more each game.

I remember I read a theory somewhere long ago, pre-2015 that it was possible to save Guan Yu, but Zhuge Liang somehow decides to not to. Don't ask. I already forgot. But it's something to do with Zhuge Liang was not providing a reinforcement or something.
(Edit): The death of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei was a sign of the end of the old generation. Not long after this, Liu Bei passed away due to the grief for losing the battle to revenge his brothers death. Cao Cao died not long after him. He suffered brain tumor or something, but the way the novel pictured it really something else (he had to ask several maids to wrap a cloth around his head and pull it together as strong as they could to ease the pain). I don't remember about Sun Quan, but he knew Guan Yu's death means business for Liu Bei. He was scared and tried to put the blame on Cao Cao by sending Guan Yu's head to him. Cao Cao don't want the smoke and decides to give Guan Yu a royal funeral instead. I don't remember how Sun Quan died, but I think it's not far from this event too.

DW7 was honestly the peak of the best dramatic writing in the series. They have yet to top it save for Cao Cao in DW9
Haven't played DW5-8, but 6 easily wins.

im torn between Dw7 and 8 for best reactions.. 7 because of the emotion, 8 because Liu bei, who just lost his familly, apologizes to Sun Shang Xian, because he has to fight hers.

@@jemish_3353 the messed up part is that the order to not kill Guan Yu was just a bit late, with Sun and Liu Bei being married an alliance had been made and the orders to not kill Zhang Fei and Guan Yu were sent out. Being the Sworn brothers Of Liu Bei the then husband of Sun Shang, and thus part of the Sun familly. So not only did he fuk up, he by extension killed part of the familly he is sworn to protect.

7 certainly had the most emotion behind it, though my personal favorite is 5, mainly because I haven't played much of the others :D. "Attack Wei, and Wu will have no choice other than to surrender. Please, reconsider..." the "Neither of you, understand my pain! I MUST do it.." had the most impact on me personally.
I always loved DW5 the best. The cutscene with the music slid nicely into the Yi Ling battle, was very intense. 6 was the best one though
Liu Bei had every right to go after Wu following the deaths of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, despite the pleas from both Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang that their main enemy was Wei.
If I heard that my biological brother or sister was killed by someone, of course I would be angry like Liu Bei, and KOEI can give you an idea what if Liu Bei managed to avenge Guan Yu's death in the battle of Yi Ling in the 6th dynasty warrior series, good job to the team from KOEI

Yeah, DW7 was the most emotional and tense version, the scripting for that scene was great, it made me not wanna b in there watching haha. I might even add it was better animated

The double gut punch of losing Guan Yu and Zhang Fei is portrayed brilliantly in dw7. Gotta say though dw6's battle without justice is still my favorite music to go along with the stage

More and more as the games progress I feel the more useless characters are come up. Why did every child of Guan Yu needed to be made? The only one of any interest was Guan Ping.
Anthony .Varone Shu seem to always get useless characters. Wei on the other usually gets the best characters (DW8 being their best since they introduced Li Dian, Xun Yu, Yue Jin and Yu Jin who all had important roles). Koei should really start introducing important characters for Shu like Liao Hua (seriously though, it pisses me off how a character like Bao Sanniang gets introduced before him)
1 other thing I must add is how un realistic each new character has become as of late in terms of look and weapons. Bao Sanniang is a perfect example.
Look as in armor design or face? If you talking about facial appearance, i really agree on that. There's too many babyface and childish characters especially in Shu. (Though i must admit, Wei really need one of those)
To be fair both his sons go on to do a lot for Shu. His Daughter was unnecessary though. I don't like the way they made them in the game though. They are too kiddy and Anime like.

Liu Bei dw5 & dw6 is pure rage. Liu Bei 7 and 8 is broken. But in every battle with WU after this, he's a damn monster! Liu Bei turns into Lu Bu on those maps! It's glorious!

While DW7 has the most emotion, I honestly prefer the more restrained, if you can call it that, tone of DW5. It just hits those notes of not only is he full of grief, but also how that grief near instantly shifts to a blind, vengeful rage that not even Zhao Yun or Zhuge Liang can temper. Masterful.
