When large big box companies use months like pride month and black history month as a way to make money and then throw it all away at the end of the month just really shows how little they care for us, it’s actually kinda hurtful if you think about it. 🤷🏾

They also used a lesbian flag design made by someone who has to set up gofundmes in order to pay her bills. I can guarantee she won't be seeing a dime from sales of products using her design. I get that ownership when it comes to things like pride flags is a bit complicated, but this isn't some small independent etsy creator using it, this is fucking Disney. They have the money to compensate these people but they won't. Put your money towards lgbt+ owned stores and businesses, not mega-corperations looking to capitalize on our struggles for a quick buck only to ignore us at best and discriminate against us at worst the rest of the year.

Its because garments for cis men and cis women have to be made with different considerations for typical body shape such as chest, shoulder, waist, and hip size differences. Its literally a manufacturing thing and about standardized sizes for cis bodies. I do see what you mean, but how else would they label those? Because the products are physically made in a completely different set of size measurements. Genuinely curious as to whether or not you have a different idea for how to separate the sizes instead. Im not a very creative person so i have no idea how i would do it personally .-. Like I understand the issue here completely. I just dont know what a good way to fix it would be. Unisex clothing does exist but its not universally flattering for that reason.

There was also a lawsuit in the 80s where they wouldn’t let a gay couple dance together at a nightclub in Disneyland. The couple won, but it was only that specific couple that would be allowed to dance together. It would be a long time until Disney theme parks allowed homosexual couples to dance.

when I went on their website they had like different flags which I thought was cool but im pretty sure it was just the same piece of clothing with different flags (idk I didn't check all of it)
I _did_ recently buy 4 pride pins for 5 dollars there cuz I had a gift card and happened to be near one and they're actually pretty cool and cheap like one pride pin on etsy, where I normally buy pride stuff, would be like 10 dollars
but yeah most of their stuff was very shitty and I would not have bought any of it (maybe *_one_* of the shirts I saw if I weren't still in the closet to most of my family lol)

Thank you for being an ally and definitely, we are making process but we shouldn’t ignore the problems that are happening now. Btw if y’all can watch The Owl house, one of the few Disney series with lgbtq+ protagonists, not very explicit but close enough to get censored in Russia, which is a plus. (Edit to add the last part)

some of my own thoughts on this:
- I dislike minimalist pride designs, particularly rehashed designs from other collections. It feels very low effort and corporate, and frankly almost feels insulting when a company can't even be bothered to make a new shirt instead of reusing a design they already did. It also seems rather clear a majority of the time that they went with the most generic phrases and taglines they possibly could that they thought would appeal to "the gays" based on trend rather than actually believing in the messages they print out. Get creative. Think of something interesting.
- Companies like Disney shouldn't be making pride merch until they face their own homophobic bullshit head on. I don't want to see another cheapass rainbow mickey print until I see a formal apology to creators like Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace who have had to *fight* to get any amount of representation into their work. I want to see even bigger apologies given to those who have been harassed in their workplace or fired for their gender identity or sexuality.
- I personally dislike (although people are allowed to disagree and use whatever labels they feel like) the idea of assigning "mom & dad" roles to gay couples because it's enforcing heteronormative stereotypes and labels onto lgbt+ people. A masc mom is not automatically a "dad". She is a masc mom. A femme dad is not automatically a "mom". He is a femme dad. A nonbinary person also doesn't have to be a "mom" OR a "dad" if they don't identify with those labels. Stop pushing heteronormative ideas onto queer people.

@@SobrietyandSolace you're absolutely welcome to correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that, at least in the case of some of the mcyts, their LGBTQ+ fans either asked for pride merch/ showed a bunch of support for them to release pride merch. There may be LGBTQ+ people who *do* feel segregated with this merch, but it seems that the majority enjoy it.

I truly was not a believer in crocs until I couldn’t find any good shoes for my very active on my feet all day job. A bunch of people wore crocs, so I decided to try them.... my mind was changed. They’re so ugly, but they’re so comfortable.

I got recently engaged to my gf and the band of my ring has rainbow stones going across it it’s really pretty 😔 and looking at rings (because i chose it) made me realize how jewelry is usually the most tolerable pride product aside from shoes maybe, like you can trust it the most to not feel like a hate crime or be really obnoxious/ugly shades of color

Not all rep is good rep, if it promotes harmful stereotypes (I'm not saying Target is) or it exploits people for money, then it's not okay. If they really cared they would do better. Yes, I am grateful for the representation, but that doesn't mean I can't expect better.

@@percabethlumity Even when they donate, a lot of companies just work out deals with less ethical charities to donate small amounts of money that will be used to effectively just promote companies that work with them, as well as raise "awareness" in the most nonspecific way possible.

I think my favorite pride piece from a big company is the Skittles one. The Skittles are all grey and the bag says:

That's very right, for an example I live in turkey and a brand got cancelled because they supported lgbtq+ community last year in the pride month. Huge kudos to them tho for not deleting the tweet and standing by it. Now this year we have a lot more companies supporting it which is very nice😄

I'm of two minds on all the rainbow clothes, like yes its ridiculous, and yes its pandering, but part of me feels like this clothes isn't for those of us who came out young and like know where to get things that are subtle and made by queer creators, I feel like its for the middle aged person who came out late in life, that waited until after their kids were grown, and is newly divorced and feels super alone in the middle of the country and knows maybe 1 other queer person. Like I feel like that's who it helps feel more accepted, not us.

Pride collections that are done poorly is why I like to buy pride stuff from Etsy. A lot of designers on Etsy who make pride stuff are part of the community and a lot of discreet stuff is made. Plus, they're artists, it's pretty. EDIT: Also, as far as I know, Old Navy has some nice Pride Stuff

The lipstick lesbian flag had a lipstick kiss thing in the corner, then they took it off, as far as I can tell either because it was too complicated to print or in order to try to include butch and GNC lesbians, but the creator was pretty shitty and it was still excluding gnc lesbians, and I believe is still technically also known as the lipstick lesbian flag, so a whole bunch of new ones were proposed. The popular one from that is the orange one, which originally had seven stripes. Then that one was simplified a little more into five stripes, but both are still common. The pink one is still relatively common from what I've seen, but it seems to be used mostly be femme lesbians

I heard that the person who made the lipstick lesbian flag actually plagiarized the design from a drag queen (who, if I understand correctly, made it as a piece of criticism towards those who stereotype lesbians). I prefer the orange one a lot because it was made to be inclusive of all lesbians and was agreed upon by the community, but of course I don't judge anyone who prefers other versions.

*However* to put a the American flag on a shirt is technically a type of vandalism (it had started back in the 70's during protests). So all those "I'm a proud American Patriot" people are actually committing vandalism to the very symbol they adore :)
And flying a flag from a truck is intentionally damaging it, and therefore also a form of vandalism.
Per regulation, the US flag is only supposed to be flown *only* from a pole, between sunrise and sunset, should be taken down during severe storms or other weather that would damage it, and when worn out of torn, should be disposed of by cremation or burial.

Petco has been doing pet pride collections for a couple years now and the funds go to the Trevor Project. And now for the associates they have made name badges with frames around them (LGBTQ+/Military/Asian/Black/Hispanic) and the option to add pronouns. They also have pride themed uniforms that are able to worn but, unfortunately, only during the month of June.

tldr: i trust that converse is genuine with their pride because of my own experience.
so about converse, maybe like 4 years ago i was in out metro west (one of the groups they partner with) and we were invited to their main location in boston.
we were given a tour of the building along with the history of converse, after that we got to customize a pair of shoes. there were patches, markers, rainbow shoelaces, etc. they had a full wall of posters along with their pride collection on display (i think it was miley cyrus).
i do believe that they are genuine with their support. (i think they might have some pride stuff all year round. do not quote me on that) they invited a bunch of kids to customize shoes, i do not think they’d do that if they didn’t care.
converse is one of the best major companies and i stand by that. they do have year round pride stuff available and it’s really nice, and even if they don’t really care, they sure do make it seem like they do and i really do like them like that. if you think abt it, i think vans also has year round lgbt/rainbow stuff (i wouldn’t know, i don’t buy vans) but i think those two companies actually care and it’s super nice :)
Hopefully they don't use child labor like the rest of Nike is my main concern with Converse.

I just got an Idea for a lesbian flag shirt I would wear, so the flag is gradated like top down without the white, the white is in the line art of monstera leaves similar to all the Hawaiian shirts that I'd have seen others wear before too, I think I could wear beige pants with it?
