- Today, we will compare the footage from my original Ring Spotlight Cam from 7 years ago and compare it to the newer Ring Spotlight Cam PRO and see which is better or do you think the newer PRO is better. This is also my 1 year review of the Ring Spotlight Cam PRO and as you will see it has some issues.

At this point, I feel like Ring Community is what keeps the Ring folks loyal. People love to post videos on Ring Community instead of calling the police. At least 3 times a month, someone is posting some nonsense asking about power outages or if anyone “heard a loud boom”. Lol
Ours here is worse... lost dogs, cats, who is the best handyman questions...
@@LifeHackster seriously though. It’s like Facebook marketplace, Angie’s list, a garage sale bulletin board, and the neighborhood water cooler all-in-one.
@@victorvek5227 I know...I already have the nextdoor app for that :)
@@LifeHacksterLOL 😂
@@LifeHackster ; you can use the "Filter" option in the Neighbors area so you don't see as much nonsense! I set them up and get WAY less BS crap blowing up my phone.
I have been with Ring for a good 7 years now. This is mostly due to convenience and cost, however. I have about 10 outdoor stick-up cams around my property, and about 7 or 8 indoor wired cams. The outdoor cams with cheap third party solar panels work well, so you never have to worry about batteries going dead, and they seem to do well with my mesh system getting pretty long-range out of my WiFi. Also, the batteries last forever. I thought one of the first ones was finally done this year, but I was mistaken. Some of these batteries are > 5 years daily use in the elements now, and still going strong.
I originally setup the system for the alarm hub with door/window sensors, and a couple indoor cameras for good measure, and sort of built up from there over the years.
Because it's one charge for cloud storage across the system, and I only wanted the alarm self-monitored (which I believe is the only choice now anyway), this has worked out well for me. For me, not having to mess with SD cards is crucial, and most other systems charge major fees, or don't have cloud storage.
I have also found, on the rare occasion I've needed it, that the Ring Support number actually provides good support.
I agree that I'd love better resolution, but for a complete and inexpensive system, I'm too deep into it to back out now!
Of course, most of what I use the system for is to check on my cats and other wildlife, so resolution is not absolutely crucial! 😂
Eufy Killed Ring
Yeah totally
I'm so impressed with Eufy and the picture quality , probably going to leave ring for good. They refuse to get with the times.
I just replaced my only Ring 📷 that I had for 4 years with a Eufy for my front door. I couldn't see paying $50 per year for their service and poor video quality. I have better (2K) quality with Eufy and no subscription fees!
I dumped my ring equipment and replaced with Reolink 823a's and an NVR after watching your videos. No Silly subscription required, 24hr recording and much better quality. Thank you.
Same reolink and home assistant is a game changer.
I previously had 5 Nest cameras from older models to new. Between the crazy monthly fee for cloud storage and then poor video quality and wifi issues. I found your channel and switch to the Reolink product. Thank you for your in-depth reviews and saving me money making the switch to a better product.
Thanks for watching!
My old ring floodlight first gen and spotlight first gen is almost at it's last breath. Once they are completely dead, I'm moving to reolink cameras and doorbell. I already have 3 reolink 4k cams, 1 RLC-811A and 3 RLC-833A poe cams and I'm loving everything about it, video quality, rapid notifications, and app. Waiting for the new reolink home link pro once they release it.
You are so right. Ring is a household name for all cameras. I have 11 Ring cameras in and around my house and they work, even the original stick up cam that records in 720P.
Their older cams are solid... I'm really not sure on their new ones.
@LifeHackster The new wired Ring Doorbell is very very dark - also speaker sucks. My original caught convos across street
Yeah, I moved away from Ring a long time ago. Went from Ring to Eufy, but now it's about Reolink and being hardwired in with 24/7 recording over sporadic wifi motion clips that may or may not capture what you need. Eufy and Tapo is really good for those who are unable to have a hardwired system, with local storage and no extra fees.
I gave up on Ring. Had a spotlight cam and a doorbell cam. Got rid of both for Eufy. No monthly fees and better quality video too. Eudy isn't without its quirks (doesn't capture video far away like the Ring did, for example), but it's a better system overall.
Remember the skinny worm guys from Men In Black, that's the team at Amazon handling Ring.
They see all
True…
Was always a NEST cam guy, had about 15 nest cameras. Installation on new NEST cameras was very challenging and ended up sending the cameras back a few times. Tried out ring a few months ago and was amazed by the ease of installation (adding camera to my account), purchased 6 ring products for diffrent properties, still keeping the old Nest Cameras as active. Will NOT buy another Google/Nest product due to the new requried new Google home interface, not good at all. I am looking into the Reo cameras now, your videos have been alot of help. FOr the current Ring Camera setup fine details would be great but not a neccesity, that is why I am looking into the Eufy mentioned as well. Keep up the vids, very helpful!
I agree with you on the Google Home interface. The Nest app is just fine and less bloated than the Google interface.
Been with ring from the beginning. I have a floodlight cam, doorbell pro (v1), and 2 floodlights. I want to change but I don't really have the upfront cost to go to reolink.
Had Ring for some time. But after watching your videos showing the video quality and the video quality of others (Eufy) I changed to Eufy. Better quality and no fees.
Yes Ring needs to update their entire line and resolutions in the app. So frustrated with the changes between doorbell pro and doorbell pro 2. Won’t pick up motion more than 10 feet away. Ready to explore other companies. They get you with the cost to switch everything to another brand. Thanks for sharing and keep rocking their old gear like most of us!
Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching the video!
@zachstuff; I have the Ring 3+ doorbell cam and it works really well and even talk to people on my porch while not at home and pickups everything including a b&w pre-roll. Now when I originally got the doorbell cam it was NOT good with choppy footage and would miss events constantly so I added a Ring Chime Pro witch acts as a WiFi booster that I located close to my door inside my home and it was a night and day difference in performance and works like a champ ever since. A weak WiFi signal will cause ALL sorts of problems like you described and I too had the same issues.
I took things one step further and put in a smart bulb in my porch light so now when the doorbell cam detects motion I setup a routine after sunset that turns the bulb on this way the camera will switch from infrared to normal color mode and then turns off the bulb after 3:30seconds if no motion is detected. I've had people approach my door at night and when the light comes on they've done a 180 and took off if they didn't belong there.
I have 8 ring cameras at my home 6 are over 5 years old with no problems and just recently purchased 2 indoor cameras those have had no issues either. Btw I started using ring cameras because of your early vids on the channel .
Thanks for sharing your experience and watching the channel!
My take - I only got into the security camera stuff recently, and I went to Ring because I heard good things about it. I bought 2 Ring Stick Up cams + 2 solar panels to go with it, and they've rarely let me down. I haven't charged the Stick Up Cam that gets plenty of sunlight at the back of the driveway in about a month now, and the front of the driveway I've had to replace the battery one due to lack of sunlight. Motion detection for people is reliable, and it's helped a lot. We've been able to see who's been dropping rubbish on our driveway.
But I am also using your tip that you gave at one point where you said it's good to have cameras from 2 different companies. I have Ring for person detection, and I have Tapo for 24/7 recording in the front driveway.
Am I impressed by Ring's video quality? Not really, but I only need to see what's going on and that's pretty much it. And everything being in the cloud means that if a person steals the camera, they've played themselves. I don't like the subscription model, but Ring is just so reliable, and I get a notification less than 3 seconds after someone passes the camera.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching!
I have to agree with you because cloud recording is important vs. local storage that can be smashed with a baseball bat or simply unplugged from the wall and you gots nothing! I have several Ring cameras and they've all been solid and do the job as the whole alarm system does that I've had since 2018. Yes, 1080P is not the best but at least it shows me the activity around my home while I'm away and records it. It WAY better than no cameras at all!
I personally still have ring cameras everywhere on my house. A couple months back one of my older Spotlight cam wireds was fired by a storm. Replaced it with the Floodlight Can Wired Pro and so far im not too happy with it. The older Spotlight cam would have farther motion detection way past my driveway. All of my other cams still are going strong.
Tip on the floodlight cam PRO. Turn off the radar or the bird's eye feature and you will get farther detection range.
i was scrolling on TikTok and saw this lady comment “my ADT Ring Doorbell”. i cringed because you can clearly see the Google Nest logo in her video.. but ive given up on Ring 3years ago.. i got tired of my cameras only recording/detecting the backs of people walking away.. i switched to Eufy Outdoor Cam.. i love how they record everything but only notify you when it detects people
I just found you channel. Great content. Subscribed.
Thanks L.H.
Any time!
Every security system should have an auto alert when a sombrero goes by
LOL...
1080p doesn't cut it in 2024, they keep to 1080p format because 2k or 4k would be a burden uploading on their servers due to the subscription users ......
Using higher res cameras ALSO burdens your router and consumes MUCH more data as well. Did you even consider that? You'll also find that many 4K cameras do NOT actually record at the true 4K because it consumes so much bandwidth when viewing remotely when you are NOT at home and you get 1080p quality or possibly less when NOT on your WiFi network. Sure when you get home you can jump through hoops and actually get the 4K footage if the vendor offers the option off a WiFi camera. Does little good when you are NOT at home.
Record locally..that is the answer. It doesn't burden your router..it uses up bandwidth when you are downloading or viewing the footage...but same thing when you are binge watching Netflix.. or when your kids play their games ...have you considered that?
@@LifeHackster ; BUT if your local station is smashed there is NO record at all. What do you really gain?
@@johnszatkowski6898 Well, if you can find it. With NVR systems like Reolink, you can also record as a backup to FTP off site or to another computer. You control your footage.
@@johnszatkowski6898 You are missing my point What I`m saying is, I think the reason why Ring doesn't release 2k or 4k Cameras is because. If everybody who is on a subscription starts uploading at 2k or 4k, Then Ring would have to upgrade its hardware to cope with all the extra information ....
I had ring one time and for one day and returned it I hate ring I use tapo love them thanks man
Have Ring and went Pro or higher on initial order. 6 yrs old and working fine. Have blink and Nest too.
Thanks for watching!
Ring is like Nintendo. They care counting on Customer loyalty to stay in business with their crappy video quality. They need to step up their game.
Reolink and Eufy are my go to.
;)
Have a mixture of Ring and Reolink based on LH reviews and advice. Ring for quick motion detection, app and interconnectivity between devices. Reolink for 24/7 recordings and image quality via two CX410s and two B800s.
Currently have three Ring Spotlights, Doorbell Pro, one indoor camera and the monitored alarm system.
The €100 annual fee here in Ireland for Alarm, cloud storage and warranty makes it hard to drop them and replace with Eufy and more Reolink as the upfront costs to replace would take years to recoup.
An original spotlight broke after 4 years and due to plan they replaced it for free. As long as they replace for free I will stick with them for what I have but likely won’t be adding anything else or recommending them to anyone.
If I was starting again I’d go with mix of Reolink and Eufy, including Eufy alarm. This is what I have installed/recommended to friends and family also.
I will replace Ring as soon as it becomes financially worthwhile and/or I have to replace items out of pocket and I will replace with Eufy as the Ring products break.
I have a ring spotlight cam pro. Bought it in July 2023. I have noticed the pre-roll is laggy and low resolution. But it serves it purpose aside from that, so I'm ok with it.
January of 2023, we switched from Vivint, to ring. Vivint was causing a lot of issues for us. We wanted somthing where you could self monitor and have camera recordings. Ring was our best pick. We got there doorbell wired, stick up cam plug in, and we went to Costco and got a 14pc alarm system kit that came with a stick up cam battery. Almost a year and a half, it’s mostly running strong. We had to reboot our doorbell a few times but that was mostly it. I don’t think it will last more than 5 years.
You are definitely paying more with Vivint too..
I got rid of them (Ring) 2 years ago. The video quality is ok. The stick-up cams are a great price and the app is brilliant and packed with features but sharpness was really lacking. Once you go at least 2k quality, you really don’t want go back.
LEFT RING 2 YRS AGO WENT TO EUFY
Ring doorbell and alarm is a tough combo to beat, considering there aren't many other alarm😮s. For everything else outdoor, reolink. Dumping my indoor wyze cameras this week. Would be nice to see a new indoor cam comparison. Tapo, Kasa, reolink, wyze, ring, eufy, etc.
I agree. Thanks for watching!
One crucial factor that many consumers overlook is the quality of night vision. It's important to remember that most crimes occur during the night. Personally, I use both Arlo and Reolink cameras. While Arlo's motion detection is more accurate and has fewer flaws than Reolink's, I must commend Reolink for its superior 4K night vision quality, which far surpasses that of Arlo. Additionally, Reolink offers free cloud storage and an advanced AI detection mode, making it a more advantageous choice compared to Arlo.
On the other hand, I won't give up on Arlo’s accurate motion detection and its smooth 2K video quality during the day.
I agree with you on night time quality... thanks for sharing your experience.
I’ve been with Ring for 2 years have cameras installed at my house (3 cameras - 2 battery and 1 Floodlight and a doorbell - battery) and my parents (3 batter cameras and a doorbell). I may not be happy with their video quality and need the Wi-Fi frequency (upgraded home WiFi to 6E Mesh), having these has paid for itself in that time (police have asked for Ring footage, sharing incidents with neighbour’s etc). When I’ve had issues with any of the cameras or doorbell, Ring have send out a replacements (free of charge) and Iiving in the UK where it’s all wet weather I’ve seen a lot of comments that Eufy outdoor camera get water inside. I’m even considering having a Ring Alarm installed in the next few week. Ring works for me now with my Alexa devices (Hub, Dots etc) and hovering over the idea of the echo hub to be placed by main door. In time I want to renovate my house in the next few years and in that time I’ll going Ubiquiti/ UniFi Protect as all cameras and WiFi access points will be hardwire. I like Ring for now and the devices it works with to secure my home/family. I think it comes down to personal choice.
Hey man love your vids, could you do a test on the Ctronics dual lense hybrid zoom outdoor camera
My ring cameras are slowly dying... I agree the video quality is terrible. I will be moving on shortly.
I switched to Eufy cameras as the Ring cameras slowly failed to work properly.
Reolink for sure❤
True...
Eufy is good except the wired dual camera doorbell because it keeps disconnecting every few months where I have to do the set up process all over . Ring is popular because big builders bundle new homes with basic ring gear and tie people into their ecosystem. Not a bad strategy at all but for me it’s still eufy
I used to have eufy and wyze. Now I have only tapo that's my only go to cameras for now.
I have two rings I don’t mind, but I don’t like the monthly subscription. I like the Blink ones because I have the sink module. Please let me know any other ideas.
All my outdoor cameras are Ring and planning on staying with them due to the warranty. But eventually will be moving to another system if the feature gap keeps increasing
Thanks for the info on the camera! I myself used ring just for the notifications & the speed of the notifications. Has no problem detecting people or cars up to 25m away. Has 8 Ring cameras around the house on the outside. But, then I use reolink for the resolution. Not the fastest camera, but the resolution is crucial for the quality of the video. However, have started testing Eufy for their features, but am unsure about the privacy & security of their software. There has been quite a bit of discussion about them online. Not sure what you think of their security or software?
Eufy is fine.. they are just the ones that was criticized and became viral but everything they do, is also being done by cloud based camera systems.
Luckily they have Privacy mode so you dare to have them indoors. The features & the price in terms of what it delivers are very impressive.
I still have loads of ring cameras and don’t plan on moving. However I do feel like ring are failing behind as there is no new innovation. Also, the ring protect plan is missing sold. The protect plan, extends an existing warranty. It does not add a new warranty. So, if you by a ring camera on eBay, which works. You add the product plan, and the camera lasts 2 more years. Ring will NOT replace it
I have all REO Link cameras surrounding my garage on my property. I only used the ring flood (2020) camera for its notification that something is happening at the face of the garage. I did it this way because Ring has the ability to save the videos. REO Only saves the videos until the hard drive runs out of space and then rewrites. Plus, REO geta set off by the clouds moving in the sky and shadows. The ring does not.
I had 15 ring cameras, ring alarm, I was part of their explorer program and loved them when they 1st came out. I always had other Cams but came back to ring. However lack of innovation has forced me to move on as well. I too have an 1 older spotlight cam and a video doorbell 3 and that is it. I have moved on to Eufy and Reolink. I guess I better sell my other ring cams while I can still get a return on them. That is the one thing they have going for them Brand recognition however that is also their downfall Ring seems to be relying on brand recognition and less innovation .
Thanks for sharing your experience.
What do you use for your alarm if your done with ring?
LifeHackster who would you recommend when it comes to wired floodlight, doorbell and free standing cameras?
Check Eufy cameras.
@@LifeHackster Thanks for your feedback and great content...
@@LifeHackster What's the home base for with Eufy, and do they work with Alexa?
Not sure if you got the Memo yet but Ring is changing its name to "Doorstop" . you can also use it as a hockey pock. I still have my older ring cams and I moved on to wyze, Eufy and Reolink cameras .. Ring ring ring the door bell doesn't keep up with the completion
What’s your opinion on Omada Vigi? Doesn’t seem to have much info and reviews in general.
I haven't really heard that brand...
I agree with you that their video quality is not great. But I also agree that their security system and app is very nice. That’s what makes it hard for me to switch out the cameras to something else. It would be just inconvenient to have to join another ecosystem of cameras. For now my Ring cameras have been working fine and serve their purpose, but there is much to be desired. And also what happened to that drone camera they were making? Sounds like it’s going downhill sense there is no news on that at all. Definitely lacking innovation.
The drone cam didn't materialize...
@@LifeHackster that’s sad because that is something I’d consider to be actually innovative. Maybe not totally useful or needed but definitely innovative. That’s a shame. I was interested. Also have has your thoughts been on their dashcam?
Our ring is 5-years old and not picking up all motion at night. We don’t see cars coming or going on two of our wired spotlight cameras. Any suggestions on a remedy or a new camera system? We do like the app.
Decided to go back to ring over 2 years ago now. Have the Pro 2 doorbell over 2 years old spot light cam plus, stick up and indoor cams. While they’re not the best I haven’t had any issues and they’ve been reliable.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@LifeHackster Absolutely! 👍
Ring is honestly terrible now, I used to have Ring installed on my home and I since switched to Eufy. I had x1 Ring video doorbell 2, x1 Ring floodlight cam, x1 Ring spotlight cam and x4 stick up cams now I've replaced all with Eufy products as I find them better
3:00 My Eufy sometimes does the pre-roll thingy. Maybe it's still in beta.
The old Ring cameras look better to me. Is there anyway we can pressure Eufy to update thier software with preroll to their 4k Eufy Cam3 and CamC cameras. That would be perfect. I used to use the 2-3 second preroll on my 1080p Arlo pro 2’s.
I know. I wish they would add them.
LH are too also done with Ring alarm?
I'm entertaining other camera systems. I was hesitant to get anymore rings after fighting with them over my doorbell camera for 2 years. I finally got all those issues resolved. I then got a stickup camera for the back and was happy with that so I got a flood light pro about a year later and the first one was defective and ring refused to warranty it as I didn't buy it from them but amazon even though Amazon owns them. I also subscribe to the ring service which is supposed to replace the camera anyways. I finally did a negative review on amazon and that triggered ring to call me and replace the camera. Despite some minor issues it's working better. I then decided to double down on stupid and get the pro alarm. It came with a defective keypad and a defective sensor. Once again it was a nightmare to get ring to warranty anything out. I really want to add 3 more cameras but Ring doesn't seem like the place for me to put anymore of my investments in. It's sad since when the stuff works it works well. Then they update firmware and break everything. Their support staff doesn't even know their products. I had 4-5 support agents that didn't know what pre-roll was and told me they don't support that feature.
Are there any battery cameras that record to memory cards onboard then automatically upload to cloud? Reolink has some, GO cameras are old generations. Was hope Argus would, but they don’t as far as I can tell.
Maybe good video for posting!
Bro, u need to put some Hydratane on your lawn (maintains moisture duri g drought)
Dang it, I just purchased 3 days ago the “wired” version of the Spotlight Cam Pro. I have this same damn issue when downloading the videos. What happens if you remove the battery? Will it still have this issue?
Can you review the swann max ranger 4k 🙏
what is your 0pinion of the PixiCam and the Minipix ?
I think these are "fly by night" companies.
If your done with them I will gladly take them.
I was done with ring years ago, right after I found out they sponsor shekelpiro.
I have one more camera to purchase and will be done with Ring Cameras.
If ring ever comes out with better cameras what would you have It for one of your main cameras?
What brand do you use at your home now?
I use Eufy and Reolink mostly. My backups are wyze..
The real question is reolink vs eufy vs lorex. I'm surprised he hasn't gone over any lorex cams either. As they are quite a trusted brand as well. I'm stuck because I like the designs of eufy cameras but I feel like the other 2 brands I listed have better hardwired options with nvr systems. And specifically if you want an all black camera only eufy and lorex offer those. I dont count ring anymore but I wish more brands stopped mixing there cameras with black and white colors. Why not all one or the other all white or all black.
I have reviewed a few of Lorex... one thing I don't like on them is that they have a lot of products and models and their cameras are compatible with some of their NVRs and not all of them.
@@LifeHackster oh I'll definitely take a look at those thank you. I think its because they are trying to make their systems seperate like either hardwired or battery powered with their fusion line being focused on both.
I only like thing i like ring for is there smart lighting and alarm my plan is to have all of my ring cams (I have 8) to be replaced with reolink. (edit) and thre car cam is ok 😬 at most
I wonder if "Ring camera" and "Ring doorbell" has become a generic trademark used by the news to describe any Wi-Fi security and doorbell camera.
I had 8 ring cameras because they were the big name so they must be the best…
I was wrong . I switched to WYZE cameras they update and improve the cameras often. The pan v3s were a night and day upgrade on video and audio quality, Then new v4s came out and it was just that much better. Ring is over priced nonsense
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Re the Reolink camera.....I found out from Reolink that their cameras are not UNVIF compatible. Meaning that they will not be able to be used on most universal NVR/DVR's like Dahua. This is a fatal mistake I feel, because it limits the use of the REOLINK brand.

Ring is kind of like Apple to me, it’s so popular everyone is using it & it makes people not open to any other suggestions even though they haven’t tried other brands at all 😂 I came here to compare this spotlight cam to the pro version for my aunt who already has the ring doorbell & this is disappointing results tbh. I’m gonna be plugging it up to the solar panel no junction boxes or wires will be ran. so this spotlight cam or ring stuck up battery I guess 🤷🏾♂️. Tryna catch car thieves
The only thing ring has going for them is their notifications ..... they're almost instant. And none of my ring cameras ever loose connection.
Eufy too.
Reason i use both wyze and ring. Redundancy.
💐🌹🌷💐
I stopped using Ring a very, very long time ago. None of my security cameras have access to outside Internet. I connect to my system using a vpn... much safer than allowing a 3rd company to have access to your stuff... it has happened before.
Wyze
your hand gestures gave it away besides the sharpness
There are some fishy things going on with Ring and law enforcement like the cops having access to anyone's footage without their knowledge. Hard pass.
hate ring cameras. i am going to move to reolink soon.
I never like Ring or there products and never used them...
Not saying anything you stated is wrong but, why do you really need a 2K or 4K camera for? Really? I use cameras outdoors to detect activity/people and do NOT need to know if a person has a mole on their face or do I need to count the whiskers in their beard or read a logo on their shirt from 20feet away. To me that's NOT the point of even having a camera. I too have had Ring Alarm and their cameras for years now and my Ring 3+ video doorbell cam with a solar panel which is considered OLD now has been flawless since I got it and STILL does the job well and NEVER had to swap batteries. Are Ring cameras the best? Absolutely NOT but they serve their purpose and keeps everything in just ONE app which is VERY convenient and rarely have any issues them since their install. I have other camera brands as well but becomes a pain in the a$$ switching apps and dinking around on yr phone while NOT at home to see whats happening. For me I like the "one-stop-shop" where I can access everything I need in ONE app QUICKLY and know whats going on while away and Ring provides that.
Now completely off topic - I have the Ring Pro hub and has been the best investment yet because of it's built-in router and I can keep whatever devices I want connected via. the cellular backup when my internet goes down which happens ALOT for me and has worked more than I ever hoped for. NO other system offers the ability to have OTHER devices connected and use the backup cellular connection to keep devices "connected". Not even the PREMIUM priced Vivant Alarm offers this feature!
Funny thing is that all the stuff that you said that you don’t need a 2K or 4K camera for are the ones that you need to identify a person when a crime is committed. How can the police catch someone because your cameras only caught a blurry image? If you were a victim of a crime, you will understand.
@@LifeHackster ; But you'll find the police will NEVER solve the "case" or even care for that matter and you'll get NO resolution because they will NEVER find that person!
I used to have ring and got rid of them for reolink. Ring video quality is trash.
