    MediEvil is a platform game released in October 1998 for Sony PlayStation in Europe and North America, and in June 1999 in Japan. The game was followed by MediEvil II in 2000. Then, in 2005, the original game was remade as MediEvil Resurrection. In 2007, the original Playstation version was made available via the Playstation Store to be played on PSP and Playstation 3.

    Thank you guys for keeping the spirit of MediEvil alive. Paul Arnold and myself wrote the music for all 3 MediEvil games, 2 whilst we were in-house composers for Sony Cambridge and the 3rd as we were freelancers (under the name Bob and Barn). Just to avoid confusion, rather sadly there isn't a MediEvil 3, the 3rd one refers to MediEvil Resurrection on the PSP, the one we finally got a full orchestra and choir for!

      Thank you for the composing and the upload, I love the music in the MediEvil series; as vibrant and melodic as a fair few titles at the time, but well ahead of the curve with atmosphere and ambience

      Thank you so very much for all the hard work you two have put into this amazing piece of video game art! Every music has its soul, even the Hall of Heroes, Ant Caves and the Greenwich Observatory, which are quieter by nature, are very well composed and orchestrated, even for electronic instruments! I have been hearing this OST for 5+ years now. Thank you for always giving me a piece of my childhood back! :)

    The credits music from Medievil 1 hits insanely hard.
    Especially knowing it has been more than 10 years since last time I have ever played it.
    It's so bittersweet to see how time goes by, how from being just a 12 year old kid, I am now a 22 year old adult.
    I don't cry because its over, I cry because those times happened.

      Does it take you back to medieval times? All the zombies, a sorcerer named Zarok, a pumpkin king, a pirate ship, a magic forest with a witch's brew, go really small and fight giant ants... ahhh the good old days.
      Do you want me to continue with all the medieval stuff? Because it's a lot of medieval stuff isn't it?
      Louis Armstrong would be ashamed of you.

    • @MrMortull
      @MrMortull 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Do you think maybe the idea for the Daemon came out of trying to model a REGULAR Daemon that big on the PS1 and getting frustrated with how flat and angular it looked? I can imagine this going down in the offices of SCEE sometime around 1997...
      "Ffffff.... damnit! I can't get this boss to look good, every time I render the thing it comes out looking like origami!"
      "Have you tried softening the colours at the edges so the anti-aliasing does the rest?"
      "Dude this is Playstation, not a PC with a Voodoo card! I mean check this out, right. If i turn up the saturation and turn down the contrast he looks like he's made of glass panes. That's how much we don't have anti-fracking-aliasing here."
      "...Greg? I just had an idea. Gimme a minute, I'm gonna go chat with the big man upstairs, I think I might have just solved your modelling problem and filled in a hole in the lore."
      "Dave? What are you up to now? Goddamnit Dave, not another freaky monster rewrite!"

    I've had a television in every bedroom of mine since I was 3 and I was lucky enough for my 6th birthday back in 1999 to receive a ps1. At the time, my 11 year old sister bought MediEvil with her own pocket money so she'd have a game of her own to play when I wasn't using it. She'd leave it in the console when she was done and I began playing it without her knowing and became obsessed with it. I would come home from school, this little first-grader with pigtails, knee-high socks and Mary-Janes and rush into my room to play it whilst my whole family thought I was playing Barbie: Race & Ride.

    It really is gratifying to keep reading new comments on this video, you are all very gracious with your kind words, we will continue doing music for as long as possible, even without a MediEvil 3. We've even written a film score that has shades of MediEvil but alas that's not come out yet, but I'll be sure to let you know when it does (fingers crossed!)
    In the interim, I gave a TED talk with Bob which has just been released on the TEDx channel. I plan on telling everyone about it once our workload has died down, but if you'd like to see what we're up to now and how to write music if you're unmusical, have a gander...

      It's so different from the rest of the game. Throughout all of MediEvil 2, you're extremely careful and withdraw from enemies at every moment. With Iron Slugger, you MUST take risks on order to succeed.

    This brings me back so much. My older brother bought medevil 2 when I was like 5 years old. Never could get past level 2-3. The game scared the hell out of me. The soundtrack is great though, doesn't matter how long its been I can still almost instantly recognize the music. Well at least for the levels I played.

    While I never did play the original games growing up (I DID have a demo but the Graveyard level terrified me with the zombies), I appreciate these games a lot... they're very atmospheric and dark, but have such a fun sense of humor, and the music plays wonderfully into that. If they ever do remake or rerelease these games, I'd probably buy them in a heartbeat.

    39:29 the best in my opinion. It has something magical. Makes my mind fly in to an enchanted land, where night falls slowly and everything is weird, like trees spitting venom from their moth, strange small creatures jumping everywhere, yellow glowing eyes looking at you behind bushes and grass. That track has evey damn thing a child's mind could ever generate, in his own world of fantasy. Just awesome, nothing more to add.

      I'll start by saying I'm obsessed with this OST, so this isn't a criticism, I just gotta know. I know for the original OST you didn't have a full orchestra or anything so is the organ at 7:20 in Hilltop Mausoleum a sample thats shared with DMX's "Stop Being Greedy"? :D (if you jump to around 1:25-ish and listen for 10-20 sec). Both came out in the same year!

    • @andrewbas
      @andrewbas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Grimmftw Of course. I've never heard the DMX track before, I agree the organ sounds similar, hard to hear properly over the lyrics. Alas it's a coincidence, his track came out March '98 and Med came out Oct '98.
