Billy was also clumsy when he had the costume on That's like a Ghostface trademark. They are still humans, no one is a übermensch with or without the mask just a real person. Put up a fight, fall all over the place and kill someone

Billy could be seen as the unwilling accomplice, while Stu was the "mastermind" behind the whole thing. In scream 3 when we find out Roman is the new ghostface, he admits to telling Billy to do this.
What I love the most about Billy and Stu is something I don't see talked about all that much, but I just love how close these two were to each other before the reveal. All of the other killer pairings feel so disconnected from one another personally, at the very least before their reveal where the two killers hardly have any on screen interaction or hardly any indication that they're friends at all. In the original it's so believable that these two are just close friends who decide to go on a killing spree to fuel their own psychotic pleasure, while the other killer pairs just felt like the writers just said "Uh, you and you are gonna be the killers! Sure, why not."

@@elicxc Amber and Richie’s only sole interaction before their reveals was Amber making fun of Richie for him motive. There was zero indication of the two having even the slightest bit of friendship/relationship before their reveal, not to dissimilar to other ghostface duos like Mickey and Mrs Loomis, or Jill and Charlie. I’ll give them credit for after their reveal, since they seem like the only ghostface duo that was mostly loyal to one another, but that’s my point. That’s only after the reveal. Amber could’ve easily been switched out for someone else like Liv, and nothing would’ve changed.
I completely agree with the theory that Billy killed Tatum. A lot of people think it was Stu, but Billy's eye gesture to Stu was always a dead give away.
To me that look could just as easily be "Nice kill, dude!". Why I think it's Stu? 1) He wanted his ex dead, so fits his pattern 2) GF in the garage was teasing and being silly 3) Everyone was preoccupied with Gale's arrival, and the kill lasted a shorter time than the song playing at the party. 4) He took a beer bottle to the crotch; when Billy flicks at Stu's groin upon arriving to the party, Stu whinces in pain.

The attention to detail of even remembering the character's body language and keep it consistent throughout the movie is another reason why this movie is so iconic.
I love the dynamic between Billy and Stu, Billy has a plan (which we later learn is retconned to be Romans plan) and Stu is literally only going along for the ride. I don't think Stu really would have sought out revenge for being dumped, it was suggested and he liked the idea so went with it. It's like later on in the finale act when Sydney gets the jump on the pair. Billy is acting out desperately because he's seeing his plan fall apart, a plan that has true meaning to him, whereas Stu acts out desperately because he's finally scared that this plan of his best friends isn't going to work and like he says "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!"
All i can say is: nothing beats the original scream and original killers. Billy and Stu are masterminds and true psychos. Even tho Jill is also crazy af.
@@yakno3493 Iffy retcon. Even so, Roman arguably initially only motivated Billy to kill Maureen. The events of the first Scream were still all Billy and Stu. I know, you could say that all this would have never happened without Roman. But then again, the same can be said about John Milton. Billy & Stu will always be in their own league. They are the OG’s and iconic for all the right reasons. But as unpopular as this opinion may be (such takes always are for some when it comes to giving credit to recent installments), I think in terms of brutality and overall sinister vibe, the latest GHOSTFACE is definitely up there. Amber & Richie perhaps don’t compare to Billy & Stu in terms of characterization (actually, I feel Amber rivals Stu), but they definitely defined the term psycho - especially Amber. Now Scream 6’s killer is looking even more vicious and *different*

It’s like Fast & Furious; the movies are not perfect, but they had kind of a revolutionary impact on the film industry as a whole and car culture, as with Scream and the slasher genre.
If you note the mannerisms in that opening scene I believe they both took turns on the phone. Because like you said, Billy has a more suave and menacing voice whereas Stu's voice retains that excited glee. I always hear Stu after Casey is threatened and you hear that raspy laugh and then "Can you handle that Blondie???"
Fun fact: Wes Craven actually had Skeet Ulrich use 1 hand on the knife, and Matthew Lillard use 2 hands on the knife to differentiate kills for the audience.
Not true. The ghostfaces were played by stuntmen almost entirely until they're unmasked. That's how all of Scream's ghostfaces are filmed. The actors themselves have even mentioned this.

Even in a Q&A last year, one of the stuntmen makes no mention of being directed to do anything specific for his ghostface. And we’re talking the opening sequence with Casey. So pivotal moments in the film. Even skeet has said he was never directed to hold or do anything specific to his ghostfaces movements once he’s been revealed as the killer.

As a huge Scream fan who missed so much of these minor details, I am soooo intrigued. Thank you for this. Especially the sound that Stu made in the closet at Sidney’s house that decided to ignore. Also, when he chased her up the stairs and said, “easy, easy”. My mind was BLOWN 🤯
My theory is that the Ghostface in the grocery store was another prankster just like in the bathroom scene. I can't picture either of them taking the kind of risk in broad daylight. And as we saw earlier there were several students joking around wearing the Ghostface costume. Definitely a prankster
I absolutely agree. Stu was too busy party-planning, Billy was likely putting the finishing touches on his plan. And while they are attention-seekers, all of their murders display very careful planning. If they were going to scare Sidney again before killing her and her Dad, they'd have tried to isolate her in a private area. The ones we see in the bathroom, Tatum's house and the grocery store I assume are all pranksters.
@MetaVerse Man maybe they lost their nerve at the last minute? The ones who tried this at school got into major trouble (I think they were expelled) and it might have just dawned on them they could get into trouble with the police.
The first Scream is without a doubt my favorite movie ever, and you pointed out so many things I've never noticed. Makes me appreciate the movie even more with how many intricate details Wes put in it. Great video fam.
I think overall some of the kills were a ploy by Billy to distract the police from looking at just Sidney's murder, so it wouldn't be as obvious that she was the main target. Also by killing Casey, Billy puts more suspicion on Stu. Billy would also probably play the part of the distressed lover, after Sidney would have been killed, making him seem more innocent. It's also interesting to point out that Billy comes to Sidney right after he strangles and murders Casey, possibly signifying that the act gave him some sort of sexual pleasure. This is also supported by the fact that Maureen Prescott was raped before she was killed. In my eyes Billy probably raped her and Stu just helped kill her but I'm not certain. Billy also seduces Sidney right before they enact their final plan to kill her, so ,to me, there's a connection. This movie has a lot of great subtexts and layers that can be interpreted in different ways based on real profiles of serial killers. It's really fascinating.
I'm a bit conflicted over this interpretation. Yes, killing Casey would, if put between Billy or Stu, Stu would obviously have more motive, so I'd agree that Billy's trying to cover his bases. However the idea that Billy gets some sort of sexual gratification from killing isn't evident. I always assumed Billy visited Sidney prior to the murder of Casey, so that he and Stu could steal her father's phone. Billy kills other girls and does not rape them or masturbate. Plus, earlier in the movie the police stated that Sidney's mom was having an affair with Cotton (can't quite remember the name), and they'd had sex the night she was killed but that Cotton was drunk, and he may in fact have raped her. It's possible that Billy or Stu raped her, but I think a court might have just ruled that with how mangled her body was along with seminal fluids/signs of sexual acts, that Cotton raped and killed her. I don't personally believe either of the boys raped her. I think that him badgering Sidney about sex all the time is that he was disgusted with how her mother's promiscuity 'ruined' his life, and he wants her to become the same way to at least a small degree so he can justify the murder even more. Not to mention the whole 'don't have sex in a horror film' monologue that Randy gave, paired with Billy and Stu's motto of 'life's a movie, you just don't get to pick your genre... I don't know. I'm not apologizing for anything that Billy or Stu did, but this was how I understood events. I could be wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wes have differentiated Billy and Stu's stabbing style. Billy strangles his victim at first and then go for a straight stab. But Stu is a slice and dice killer.
I’ve never seen anyone point this out but I love the fact that the motive Billy & Stu came up with for Sidney’s father while planning to frame him for the murders is straight out of an 80s slasher lol. Very similar to Roy’s motive from Friday the 13th Part 5 for example. It emphasizes the point that they both were heavily desensitized to violence and movie/media obsessed and drew inspiration from the many horror films they’ve seen. “What if your father snapped your mothers anniversary set him off and he went on a murder spree killing everyone”

I think thats what makes him even MORE scary after the reveal. The first time I watched it I sort of expected that Billy was the killer because of his voice(sounded a lot like the voice changer) but Stu? I didn’t think that the lanky goofball would be capable of killing anyone.
This breakdown is amazing. And seeing the move serval times I never noticed the small nuances in the way each killer held the knife. It made sense to have Stu be more clumsy and goofy because of his personality and have Billy be more calculated and cold. Also I never noticed Stu checking the mirror for bruises, I just thought it was a goofy thing he was doing. And I always thought that this is one of the best slasher films ever because of the detail in the film and the plot twist of two killers. Wes Craven is truly a masterful horror director

I don’t know if anyone else caught this, I didn’t catch it until I had watched Scream with subtitles, but as Randy and Stu run up to the house trying to convince Syd that they’re not the killer, you can catch Stu sayin that Randy had “Killed Billy, he killed my Tatumn.” Stu shouldn’t know about Billy being “dead” because it’s not mentioned beforehand (Randy doesn’t mention anything about Billy and if Billy truly was helping Stu with everything then he wouldn’t have been upstairs for Randy to accidentally stumble across.) i've also found it curious that stu goes to get more beer, presumably from the garage, and yet there wasn't a single mention of tatum being dead nor her body hanging from the cat door. i went into scream already knowing who the killers were, because i'd only just watched it recently and billy licking the fake blood off his fingers is a pretty well known scene, so maybe i was just over analyzing things, but i found that peculiar.
@@remyuk Holy shit, how did I not realize that? If Stu was innocent, he would've told everyone Tatum was dead when he went to get more beers. Honestly, Stu actually gave quite a lot of what-should-be dead giveaways but we barely took notice of them on first watch and only caught them after already knowing he's the killer.
Finally, someone points out the logical reasoning behind Billy being Casey's killer. I've been saying the same thing for years, and yet all I hear back is, "Casey recognised her killer, so it had to be Stu." No shit she recognised him. Billy was Stu's best friend. Of course she knew who he was. More importantly, she'd be more surprised that it was Billy rather than Stu, given Stu's motive to hate her. These same people always ignore the subtle nuances of the choking and the way the killer holds the knife. Wes Craven highlighted these things in the movie for a specific reason. It wasn't by accident.

Once the script is sold, the writer has very little influence on what actually happens with the filming and editing process, unless a creative deal is struck where they are to be heavily involved (e.g. J.K. Rowling). The director uses the script as a guide, but it’s really up to them what direction they take the movie in. If they want to change the ending or have a different interpretation of a character, there’s really not a lot the writer can do about it.

It’s not like the director or anyone else said otherwise, it’s just imo, the “reveal” to Casey would be wayyyyy less impactful if it was just Billy. Think about it, Stu does NOT have the wit to be able to handle the phone calls. He’s the minion/sidekick who does the physical work for Billy most of the time. Plus Casey dumping Stu would be a good motive for Stu to begin his part in the killings to begin with.

Why firmly establish Billy as the killer who holds the knife in that way if you're going to have a scene of Stu in the mask that contradicts that? We even saw the same knife handling from Billy's daughter Sam in the latest movie. It's supposed to be in the DNA.
7:30 my theory for that attack is they planned for Billy to show up and get apprehended and be locked in jail so Stu can do another attack later and clear Billy as a suspect because he has a rock solid alibi of being locked in a jail cell surrounded by cops. Pretty smart if thats the case.
My theory is the first attack on Sidney was to kill her but Billy and Stu realized they had lost control of the situation, and with the police showing up they pulled the bait and switch tactic out of necessity at the last minute to throw everyone off. However, Sidney was then put under supervision which is why they then killed the principal. The party was used to lure Sidney out but the principal's death I think was used for keeping the police busy more than deterring the other party guests. Bc at that point in the story Tatum seemed to be the only other intentional kill since she would've stayed behind with Sid no matter what. Dewey, Gale, Kenny, and Randy all jus happened to be the remaining few coincidentally.

You can tell Stu called Sid while Billy was in jail because he’s being a little more comical and goofy than Billy, who is more dark. Also Billy hits Stu in the nuts at the party when he shows up for payback, because Tatum hit him in the nuts with a beer bottle. So you know it was him. I’m wondering if the opening scene occurred after Billy visited Sidney though. Since the calls came from Neils phone, wouldn’t they have had to kidnapped him before Casey’s house?
Yeah that was Stu definitely. I feel like scream 1 might have the hardest “who killed who plot” cuz like it’s very understandable if Stu was the one who killed Casey and Steve cuz he was angry he got dumped. The way Casey died, to me that looks 97% billy. The fact he stabbed her in the shoulder, crushed larynx and then stabbed her to death. Like billy is a aggressive ass killer, like there’s no way that could have been Stu since he’s not that aggressive as billy.
@@LastDebt555 Stu wasn't angry he said they only dated for 2 seconds and it's anybody's guess who dumped who. Tatum confirmed that Stu was with her that night so that leaves Billy as the one who did Casey and Steve. Billy also killed the Principal, Tatum, and shot Randy. Billy was the darker character and by far the more vicious and vengeful of the 2. Look at how berserk he went on Stu for stabbing him in the wrong spot. Stu had to plead with Billy to stop it already.

I feel like Rodger L. Jackson has a lengthy phone call with the actors playing the killer. He has a way of replicating their phonetic mannerisms perfectly. A true master of his craft.
This was pretty good. I never noticed Stu looking at himself in the mirror. I knew for sure that. Stu was one of the killers because he never once questioned where Tatum was after she was killed at his party and she was supposed to be his girl.
Stu killed Casey. That’s clear by the fact that it was his Ex. And at the fountain, Billy covered for Stu he didn’t look at him matter of factly; he looked at him as if Stu shouldn’t have said anything especially not that. Stu says “I didn’t kill anybody.” Then Billy says “Nobody said you did.” In which Stu replies with “Thanks, buddy.” Then when discussing the gutting of a human being, Stu darkly volunteered information, “You take a knife, and you slit ‘em from groin to sternum.” In which again, Billy checks him. “Hey, it’s called tact, you fuckrag.” Billy didn’t kill Casey. Stu did and it’s evident by that. You completely read people incorrectly.
I honestly believe it was Stu on the phone talking to Casey Becker. Pay close attention to the questions he was asking her. He asked her did she have a bf knowing she did then proceeds as if he’s interested in asking her out to reveal if she’s a cheater or not to find out if she cheated on him with Steve. He also already knew all the facts on her favorite scary movies so he use tactics to scheme her into getting all the questions wrong.
Also the reason why Stu doesnt kill Sidney (or stab her more specifically) when he has the chance at 6:50 is because he had a thing for her so he was probably considering.... the R word
Also, when Billy gets "stabbed" in the bedroom, there are no rips in his shirt or anything. But Sid would be too panicked to actually notice that. These are my favorite movies, so this was a good video to find.
@@nunka34ify Billy was always an obvious suspect. The thing that threw us off-guard was the fact that there was two killers, this was actually innovative in 1996. Now two killers in cahoots is a bona fide cliche in this franchise.. A single killer would be a good thing for the next movie.
@Danielle Lou Yes, both Billy and Stu clearly had "killer" tattooed across their foreheads. Randy was an obvious red herring. But still, like I said, the fact that there were two killers was virtually unheard of in '96, so that twist threw us completely off-guard. They were both clear suspects, though.
He’s actually wrong through as cleared by Wes craven. He did have a good theory. But it’s billy who was in the back who killed her boyfriend and it’s Stu that kills drew. Billy was in the back the entire time on the phone. Stu wasn’t on the phone that much as ghost face.
This is what happened. Caseys chase was so chaotic that it was a matter of who got to her first. Stu got knocked out by the phone so Billy had to go get her. Stabbing and strangling is Billys MO so Billy stabbed, strangled, and wounded Casey. He could've finished her off but he didn't because she was meant for Stu. After wounding her Billy brought her to Stu where Stu finished her off by gutting (his MO) her. So yes Stu did kill Casey but not in a way that we all thought he did. As for recognizong the killer. She was shocked that it was a classmate and her ex's bestfriend. By then she figured out there were two killers so she knew Stu was involved. Another detail. When Billy decided to strangle her, he was strangling her till she passes out where he can bring her to Stu so he can kill her. When she was being dragged she you can see she mainly got stabbed on the sides. Meaning that Billy wounded her, brought her to Stu, and Stu delivered the fatal blow.
First off I dig the freaking analyzations. Bravo seriously. However, Scream just became that much more scary when you explained how Billy and Stu did their planning. Especially when you talked about how they already got into Sidney's house before she came home from school and how Stu was probably hiding in her closet. Very scary but very awesome.
To be quite honest, I always wondered how either Billy or Stu ended up in her closet? My guess is that they hid in their when she was tricked into walking outside into her porch to “investigate a strange noise”.
they were both un the opening scene because remember when ghostface asked her to pick an exit? well both were covered because one was at each exit. she was screwed either way.
There was only 1 killer and that was Billy. He told Casey there are 2 main doors to the house (which was the front door and the patio door), one of which she was next to. That was the patio where Steve got killed. Billy was outside the patio door because he threw a chair through the patio doors' large windows before she could guess, so she ran down the hallway to the kitchen and right before she snuck out through the kitchen's side door that Billy didn't know about, she sees him down the hallway running across the rooms. If Stu was there he would be at the main door waiting and she would've been cornered, but he wasn't there cause he was at Tatum's house and she confirmed this to Randy.
What is so good about Billy & Stu both being Ghostface is that it explains why Ghostface kept seeming to get up quickly after being knocked out or suffering an injury that would slow them down.
or how he was both hectic (Stu) and calculating (Billy). Ghostface was scary because he was unpredictable. He was unpredictable because he was two different people working together
I also heard that Skeet Ulrich improvised, and told Wes after he'd done, the look at the door when he began the conversation with Sidney right before they slept together. He gave the door a hard look before he sat on the bed cuz that was where Stu would be coming in from.
I agree with all of these except that I think that Tatum’s killer was definitely Stu. When she goes into the garage, the door is locked behind her from inside the house. The only way it could have been Billy is if he was already hiding in the garage. We don’t get a good view of the layout, but from what we do see, it’s pretty small; there doesn’t seem to be anywhere Billy could have hid without being obvious. But what really seals the deal for me that it was Stu is that, after Tatum is killed by the garage door, ghostface exits back through the house. First, it wouldn’t make sense for Billy to do this. He’s not supposed to be at the party yet. Second, it means the door’s unlocked now, so either Stu was waiting behind the door to unlock it for Billy to let him in the house for some reason even though he shows up at the front door the next scene, or Stu unlocked it so he could go in to kill Tatum. It makes more sense that: Stu hid his costume in a room near the garage, slipped it on real quick, killed her, went back into the house, took off the costume, and went back to the party. All in all, he would only be gone for a few minutes, which is plenty of time to have no one notice he was missing. The knowing look between Stu and Billy could mean anything, it’s not necessarily Billy confirming that Tatum’s dead. It could just be Billy checking in with Stu that everything’s still on track with their plan. Not to mention, the overall clumsiness and sadistic playfulness of ghostface in that scene really feels more like Stu. Anyway, thanks for attending my most self indulgent TED talk
Tatum's ghostface had a headtilt, was clumsy and played around with his victim. Billy doesnt do that... hes a one and done type of guy. It was Stu, case closed. If it were Billy then Tatum would have been killed immediately like the prinicipal was
Just to add. Billy does head tilts too but theyre always psychotic or intimate whilst Stus are more comical (usually with his tongue sticking out). Also Billy would have no reason to taunt Tatum. Unlike Stu, she meant nothing to him
Also I have a feeling that Stu and Billy would kinda agree both would get to kill their respective girlfriends. Like I can imagine that Stu would have been jealous if Billy got to kill both of them.
It's funny. After watching each movie in the series the first time, on subsequent viewings, my family (mainly one of my sisters) and I would try to figure out who killed/attacked who. If my memory serves me correctly, we did settle on basically what you described in this video. We did think Stu may have been the one in the bathroom because there's no real sense of time, but thinking back, it is most likely to be a prankster for the same reasons you mentioned.
I remember when a fan asked both Skeet and Matthew “who killed who?” and they just laughed it off and claimed the fan was overthinking it. It’s clear from this video, that Wes directed them to handle their movements with the knife specifically to their character’s traits. It’s sad they didn’t even realise how much thought was put into it...
Well it was a stunt guy in the suit,but all of this speaks to the detail stunt performers put into their performances that people often overlook. Good stunts really sell action.

I also think Billy did all the calls considering his character is a big homage to both Black Christmas and Halloween. Makes obscene calls like the Billy in Black Christmas, shows a fixation with strangling victims before stabbing them to death like Myers in Halloween.
I appreciate this movie so much more. People say it’s “cheesy” or “corny” but even if you didn’t know the intricate details such as the ones stated in this video, it is still an amazing ICONIC film. Truly amazing how they managed to keep track of the killers and came up with how to plan out their murders. And ya just gotta love Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard !!!🖤🖤🖤

Alexander 1996 it may not be Stu in the beginning but throughout the whole movie it’s most definitely stu and I feel like Wes wants you to know that while he chases syd in the finale
What was always funny about the randy scene was that even though that ghostface was implied to be Stu, it's said that Skeet Ulrich was actually wearing the robe in that scene as a stand in for the ghostface actor.
You may be right about Stu (the character) being behind Randy alone after the party left, but it was actually the only time Skeet Ulrich (Billy) actually wore the ghost face costume in the movie.
Finally someone got that the bathroom scene was just a prank! Everytime I see a Scream video try to say that was Billy or Stu, it immediately brings down the quality of their timeline for me. They basically spell it out that it was prankster because Principal Hembry is seen raging at two students, one of whom was the one who ran in the hall and the other of whom scared Sidney in the bathroom. Can't help but wonder what Billy and Stu thought of that. I feel like they'd either be pleased that Sidney is being made to feel more unsafe, even by stuff that's not of their doing, or angry that they didn't think of it.
I think it's more important than just "pranksters". I agree it was neither of the two, and Roman wasn't a thing yet. It's the big tell that sets up Two killers. Everyone is focused on the idea of a singular killer, that no one is thinking otherwise. The scene Winkler is the tell.
I never thought of Stu Hiding in sids closet when she came.home from school but this makes so much sense! Especially when you hear the suspense music noise for a split second when she opens it and when she hears a creek noise coming from there! How I never clocked on to that I don't know!

According to a behind the scenes, the only time an actor was in costume was when Ghostface is behind Randy, and it was Skeet Ulrich who asked Craven if he could do it just that time. Of course, every other scene is a stunt double
@@MrJorge006 that’s exactly why. The insurance you would have to take out on the actors to pull off certain stunts would cost a fortune. It’s easier and cheaper to just pay a stuntman to do it. Plus stuntmen/women would be able to do it all in less takes as compared to an untrained actor.
I think his kills should be the official cannon for this franchise. You have the most thought provoking ideas behind each kill that really are believable and reputable.
Yes Billy definitely killed Casey. I know she was intended to be killed by Stu but the chase was so chaotic that it was a matter of who got to her first.

I always thought that Billy was the mastermind, made the phone calls and Stu did most of the killing. I agree that both Billy and Stu attacked Casey. They were on in that together. Maybe the two people Billy killed by himself were the Principal and Tatem (obviously Stu had left the school at that point). On some level, Stu probably liked Tatem and didn't want to be the one to take her out.
Billy probably wanted to kill Sidney then and there but restrained himself because he wanted to mess with her head and torment her which he does later by first having Stu pretend to stab him after he and Sidney have sex faking his death. Then after the reveal Billy and Stu planned to make her watch them frame her dad for the murders, kill him then after that kill her.
The look of awkwardness? There’s two moments in the film where Billy breaks his character and it’s when he’s with Stu: When he tells Stu “Nobody said you did” out side of the school and as he’s walking away from Randy at the video store. This scene isn’t one of them.

I always had a hard time with Stu killing Steve. I felt like Billy was angry with Stu at the fountain scene when Stu said “Na, I didn’t kill anyone” and Billy responds “No one said you did.” Almost disappointed that Stu didn’t hold up his end of the bargain. But I also heard the other theory that Bill was basically telling Stu to STFU, so I understand that too.
All correct except from the bathroom being a prank. The Fonz was killed shortly after so it was clearly either Stu or Billy. My money is on Stu as Sidney has literally just argued with and ran away from Billy.
Stu killed everyone except Himbry. Stu likes to take his time, torture his victims before killing them. Billy wants to get the job done asap. When they reveal themselves to Sidney the way Stu says “Watch a few movies, take a few notes... it was fuuuun” shows his obsession for hunting down people. While Billy exacted revenge, Stu was actually the knife happy killer that’s why he always took his time and let the victims have a moment of reprieve before killing them. 1. Stu kills Casey & Steve (Casey dumped him for Steve). Billy was on the phone throughout - his impatience on the phone and lust for horror movies is proof. 2. Billy kills Himbry while Stu provides distraction. We can see Stu hurrying away after inviting the ladies. Billy got the job done asap without any bs. 3. Stu kills Tatum - Like mentioned above he played around before killing her. He also falls over a lot (a scene where he asks Tatum to get more beer he pretty much falls over the couch). His grunts in the garage are similar to those when he’s chasing Sidney after faking Billy’s death. Most importantly - he sneaks back into the house while Billy shows up later and looks completely fresh (he probably showered after hanging Himbry) Stu kills Kenny as we all know and he attacks Dewey as well as he loves to clean his knife after stabbing (which he does when he pulls out the knife from Dewey as he did for when he pretended to kill Billy). There we have it guys !!
This analysis is great and I mostly agree. The simplest way to explain it is that Billy and Stu girlfriend swap when it comes to the murders. That's why Billy kills Casey first to show Stu how it's done and when Stu's turn comes around (taking care of Sydney), he botches it. I think they were definitely trying to kill her in that first attack but Stu wasn't as confident as Billy.
I'm gonna go ahead and give stu more credit, stu was actually crazier than billy was for one thing and even if you like to be open about it doesn't make you a bad killer, I mean look at jigsaw he let everyone know what he was doing and killed the people that tried to stop him so being loud like stu was isn't a draw back, his issue was the writing like there's no logical reason for stu to be on billys dick like he was if he couldve dug deep into that anger he couldve came out on top I mean fuck they both said they got their plan from some horror slashers if anything stu was more of a killer than billy was billy just wanted to get a not even revenge revenge cuz like it wasn't even his relationship or sidneys it was his parents stu didn't even know why billy was doing it which was a stupid reason, stu just loved to kill and like billy himself says "a killer with no motive is scarier than a movtive" ol dumbass contradicts himself in the very next sentence by giving a motive of revenge at least stu can keep it consistent

@@AsGoodAsItGetsMusic The grunts are done by a looping group that also did things like "See you later, Sid" ADR when Neve gets off the school bus (because she was the only one on there so they threw in voices so it wouldn't be obvious.) There's no reason they'd have a random voice actor say Stu's line or that they'd loop in Matthew Lillard's take in a previous scene (Rose hitting him with the lollipop seemed ad lib and his "Easy" would be, too.) It's just twisting random grunting sounds and trying to bend them to sound like words.
I always thought I was so clever knowing that Stu was the one chasing Sidney in her house. But I never thought out Neil’s kidnapping based on his clothes. You are great man!

@National Sports Entertainment it's not irrational to be afraid of a horror movie, when you get immersed in a story it can feel like you are experiencing it too, hence why jump scares and feeling tensed and scared happens so often when watching horror movies.
Just a fun thought: I think Stu will be our killer again in Scream 5. I think about this because- PAUSE! Update: Just saw SCREAM 5 and I still loved it even if Stu wasn’t in it.
Stu was originally going to be the main villain of Scream 3. He would be in prison and orchestrating attacks in high schools by his followers that he’d gained after the first one. This plot was scrapped after Columbine happened, but the serial killer cult led by a man in prison was still used by Kevin Williamson in his show The Following.
Not gonna happen 100%. The main rule of every whodunit movie is that you see all the suspects from the very beginning. In Stu's case his face can be revealed only in the very end and that twist will tell nothing to the general audiences, apart from a relatively small fan base.

I think Kevin intended it to be Stu in the script, but Wes with his direction made it so that it was Billy. (I read someone saying that because Billy is the main antagonist it makes sense to make him the killer at such a pivotal moment.) Just depends if you put more stock in the writer or the director, but since so much can change from the page to the actual film, I'm going with Wes on this one.

I think Stu killed Tatum. Billy appears at the other side of the house while the ghostface who kills her walks back in. I also saw somewhere that billy would’ve had to take the long way if he left through the garage
The only thing I’d change is, I think Stu killed Casey. If he’s out for revenge against an ex girlfriend he’s going to want to kill her. And the ghost face chasing her is tall, like Stu; as I would classify Billy as average height. Like in that whole Casey sequence Billy’s on the phone and Stu the one physically going after and killing Casey; who rejected/broke up with him.
I always felt the Ghostface stalking during the pre party scenes were never intended to be taken at face value. The movie hadn’t revealed who the killers were yet and it was more symbolic that it was someone following and stalking them but not necessarily in costume as obviously the actors couldn’t be shown yet. And it was also another nod to Halloween.
I agree with this. You don’t notice the little signs throughout the film that add up? Something I’ve always noticed is at the start of the film Billy hides when he hears Sidney’s dad come to her room door after she screamed. She told him everything was ok and he explained where he was going and leaving early in the morning. Billy was the only other person hearing this, so after he left Sidney’s room he told stu so it basically worked good for them. I assume that because her dad had the same clothes on from the first time we see him that they attacked him that night.

True. Wes Craven says it on the commentary track. But only because they typically have a stunt actor playing ghostface. This doesn't confirm it was Billy though. Skeet just wanted to wear the costume and Wes still directed him as if it were Stu.

The first time I watched scream 1, I watched it with my best friend, his mum and his baby brother. I said in Billy’s introduction scene “I think Billy’s the killer. Something just seems off about him” when we found out Billy’s the killer we all went wild that I guessed it
I think Stu was hiding behind the chair as he was gutting Steve. You might be able to notice a slight movement from behind the seat underneath. I doubt Stu had enough time to run out of sight in time for Casey not to notice someone, plus the sound of Steve getting gutted happened relatively quickly that the lights go on directly after.
6:54 I have always noticed ghostface saying “easy, easy” as he was chasing Sidney up the stairs. I always thought it was the stunt actor playing ghostface and was added in by accident. Like how in scream 2 when Cici was thrown off the balcony you can see a crew member’s head pop up behind the balcony in the lower right corner of the screen. (they removed it on the new Blu-ray release but if you have the dvd from way back you’ll spot it). Never noticed that Stu said it in school though! Pretty good attention to detail there.
Also notice that Billy's mask is different than Stu's during the first two times he's seen as Ghostface. There's a real world reason for this, as they hadn't secured the rights to the Funworld outfit when those two scenes were filmed, but it's interesting to note that the two times you see a clearly different Ghostface mask are both Billy. The mask that Billy chases Casey with is clearly different than the one Stu has inside the house, and Stu is never seen with a mask like that, meaning it could technically serve as an early hint that there are two Ghostfaces.
I believe Stu was way more smarter and focused than most people give him credit for. You can be silly , crazy and smart. At the very least follow precise instructions.

Billy could be seen as the unwilling accomplice, while Stu was the "mastermind" behind the whole thing. In scream 3 when we find out Roman is the new ghostface, he admits to telling Billy to do this.
What I love the most about Billy and Stu is something I don't see talked about all that much, but I just love how close these two were to each other before the reveal. All of the other killer pairings feel so disconnected from one another personally, at the very least before their reveal where the two killers hardly have any on screen interaction or hardly any indication that they're friends at all. In the original it's so believable that these two are just close friends who decide to go on a killing spree to fuel their own psychotic pleasure, while the other killer pairs just felt like the writers just said "Uh, you and you are gonna be the killers! Sure, why not."

There was zero indication of the two having even the slightest bit of friendship/relationship before their reveal, not to dissimilar to other ghostface duos like Mickey and Mrs Loomis, or Jill and Charlie.
I’ll give them credit for after their reveal, since they seem like the only ghostface duo that was mostly loyal to one another, but that’s my point. That’s only after the reveal. Amber could’ve easily been switched out for someone else like Liv, and nothing would’ve changed.
Liv and Amber as Ghostface now that would’ve been an interesting plot and hasn’t been done before.

1) He wanted his ex dead, so fits his pattern

The attention to detail of even remembering the character's body language and keep it consistent throughout the movie is another reason why this movie is so iconic.
I love the dynamic between Billy and Stu, Billy has a plan (which we later learn is retconned to be Romans plan) and Stu is literally only going along for the ride.
I don't think Stu really would have sought out revenge for being dumped, it was suggested and he liked the idea so went with it.
It's like later on in the finale act when Sydney gets the jump on the pair. Billy is acting out desperately because he's seeing his plan fall apart, a plan that has true meaning to him, whereas Stu acts out desperately because he's finally scared that this plan of his best friends isn't going to work and like he says "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!"

Billy & Stu will always be in their own league. They are the OG’s and iconic for all the right reasons. But as unpopular as this opinion may be (such takes always are for some when it comes to giving credit to recent installments), I think in terms of brutality and overall sinister vibe, the latest GHOSTFACE is definitely up there. Amber & Richie perhaps don’t compare to Billy & Stu in terms of characterization (actually, I feel Amber rivals Stu), but they definitely defined the term psycho - especially Amber. Now Scream 6’s killer is looking even more vicious and *different*

If you note the mannerisms in that opening scene I believe they both took turns on the phone. Because like you said, Billy has a more suave and menacing voice whereas Stu's voice retains that excited glee. I always hear Stu after Casey is threatened and you hear that raspy laugh and then "Can you handle that Blondie???"
Fun fact: Wes Craven actually had Skeet Ulrich use 1 hand on the knife, and Matthew Lillard use 2 hands on the knife to differentiate kills for the audience.

Not true. The ghostfaces were played by stuntmen almost entirely until they're unmasked. That's how all of Scream's ghostfaces are filmed. The actors themselves have even mentioned this.

I absolutely agree. Stu was too busy party-planning, Billy was likely putting the finishing touches on his plan. And while they are attention-seekers, all of their murders display very careful planning. If they were going to scare Sidney again before killing her and her Dad, they'd have tried to isolate her in a private area. The ones we see in the bathroom, Tatum's house and the grocery store I assume are all pranksters.
That actually makes more sense than it being Billy, Stu or Roman since none of them were that stupid.

I think overall some of the kills were a ploy by Billy to distract the police from looking at just Sidney's murder, so it wouldn't be as obvious that she was the main target. Also by killing Casey, Billy puts more suspicion on Stu. Billy would also probably play the part of the distressed lover, after Sidney would have been killed, making him seem more innocent. It's also interesting to point out that Billy comes to Sidney right after he strangles and murders Casey, possibly signifying that the act gave him some sort of sexual pleasure. This is also supported by the fact that Maureen Prescott was raped before she was killed. In my eyes Billy probably raped her and Stu just helped kill her but I'm not certain. Billy also seduces Sidney right before they enact their final plan to kill her, so ,to me, there's a connection. This movie has a lot of great subtexts and layers that can be interpreted in different ways based on real profiles of serial killers. It's really fascinating.

I'm a bit conflicted over this interpretation. Yes, killing Casey would, if put between Billy or Stu, Stu would obviously have more motive, so I'd agree that Billy's trying to cover his bases. However the idea that Billy gets some sort of sexual gratification from killing isn't evident. I always assumed Billy visited Sidney prior to the murder of Casey, so that he and Stu could steal her father's phone. Billy kills other girls and does not rape them or masturbate. Plus, earlier in the movie the police stated that Sidney's mom was having an affair with Cotton (can't quite remember the name), and they'd had sex the night she was killed but that Cotton was drunk, and he may in fact have raped her. It's possible that Billy or Stu raped her, but I think a court might have just ruled that with how mangled her body was along with seminal fluids/signs of sexual acts, that Cotton raped and killed her. I don't personally believe either of the boys raped her. I think that him badgering Sidney about sex all the time is that he was disgusted with how her mother's promiscuity 'ruined' his life, and he wants her to become the same way to at least a small degree so he can justify the murder even more. Not to mention the whole 'don't have sex in a horror film' monologue that Randy gave, paired with Billy and Stu's motto of 'life's a movie, you just don't get to pick your genre... I don't know. I'm not apologizing for anything that Billy or Stu did, but this was how I understood events. I could be wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve never seen anyone point this out but I love the fact that the motive Billy & Stu came up with for Sidney’s father while planning to frame him for the murders is straight out of an 80s slasher lol. Very similar to Roy’s motive from Friday the 13th Part 5 for example. It emphasizes the point that they both were heavily desensitized to violence and movie/media obsessed and drew inspiration from the many horror films they’ve seen.

I think thats what makes him even MORE scary after the reveal. The first time I watched it I sort of expected that Billy was the killer because of his voice(sounded a lot like the voice changer) but Stu? I didn’t think that the lanky goofball would be capable of killing anyone.
This breakdown is amazing. And seeing the move serval times I never noticed the small nuances in the way each killer held the knife. It made sense to have Stu be more clumsy and goofy because of his personality and have Billy be more calculated and cold. Also I never noticed Stu checking the mirror for bruises, I just thought it was a goofy thing he was doing. And I always thought that this is one of the best slasher films ever because of the detail in the film and the plot twist of two killers. Wes Craven is truly a masterful horror director

I don’t know if anyone else caught this, I didn’t catch it until I had watched Scream with subtitles, but as Randy and Stu run up to the house trying to convince Syd that they’re not the killer, you can catch Stu sayin that Randy had “Killed Billy, he killed my Tatumn.” Stu shouldn’t know about Billy being “dead” because it’s not mentioned beforehand (Randy doesn’t mention anything about Billy and if Billy truly was helping Stu with everything then he wouldn’t have been upstairs for Randy to accidentally stumble across.)

i've also found it curious that stu goes to get more beer, presumably from the garage, and yet there wasn't a single mention of tatum being dead nor her body hanging from the cat door. i went into scream already knowing who the killers were, because i'd only just watched it recently and billy licking the fake blood off his fingers is a pretty well known scene, so maybe i was just over analyzing things, but i found that peculiar.

I've been saying the same thing for years, and yet all I hear back is, "Casey recognised her killer, so it had to be Stu."
No shit she recognised him. Billy was Stu's best friend. Of course she knew who he was. More importantly, she'd be more surprised that it was Billy rather than Stu, given Stu's motive to hate her.
These same people always ignore the subtle nuances of the choking and the way the killer holds the knife. Wes Craven highlighted these things in the movie for a specific reason. It wasn't by accident.

@@joyastomato237 The writer is not the director. Once the script is sold, the writer has very little influence on what actually happens with the filming and editing process, unless a creative deal is struck where they are to be heavily involved (e.g. J.K. Rowling).
The director uses the script as a guide, but it’s really up to them what direction they take the movie in. If they want to change the ending or have a different interpretation of a character, there’s really not a lot the writer can do about it.

7:30 my theory for that attack is they planned for Billy to show up and get apprehended and be locked in jail so Stu can do another attack later and clear Billy as a suspect because he has a rock solid alibi of being locked in a jail cell surrounded by cops. Pretty smart if thats the case.
My theory is the first attack on Sidney was to kill her but Billy and Stu realized they had lost control of the situation, and with the police showing up they pulled the bait and switch tactic out of necessity at the last minute to throw everyone off. However, Sidney was then put under supervision which is why they then killed the principal. The party was used to lure Sidney out but the principal's death I think was used for keeping the police busy more than deterring the other party guests. Bc at that point in the story Tatum seemed to be the only other intentional kill since she would've stayed behind with Sid no matter what. Dewey, Gale, Kenny, and Randy all jus happened to be the remaining few coincidentally.

You can tell Stu called Sid while Billy was in jail because he’s being a little more comical and goofy than Billy, who is more dark. Also Billy hits Stu in the nuts at the party when he shows up for payback, because Tatum hit him in the nuts with a beer bottle. So you know it was him. I’m wondering if the opening scene occurred after Billy visited Sidney though. Since the calls came from Neils phone, wouldn’t they have had to kidnapped him before Casey’s house?
Yeah that was Stu definitely. I feel like scream 1 might have the hardest “who killed who plot” cuz like it’s very understandable if Stu was the one who killed Casey and Steve cuz he was angry he got dumped. The way Casey died, to me that looks 97% billy. The fact he stabbed her in the shoulder, crushed larynx and then stabbed her to death. Like billy is a aggressive ass killer, like there’s no way that could have been Stu since he’s not that aggressive as billy.

Billy was the darker character and by far the more vicious and vengeful of the 2. Look at how berserk he went on Stu for stabbing him in the wrong spot. Stu had to plead with Billy to stop it already.

This was pretty good. I never noticed Stu looking at himself in the mirror. I knew for sure that. Stu was one of the killers because he never once questioned where Tatum was after she was killed at his party and she was supposed to be his girl.
As the guests were leaving to go see their principal hanging on the football goal post, Stu said to others that he thinks Casey bailed on him.
Stu killed Casey.
That’s clear by the fact that it was his Ex.
And at the fountain, Billy covered for Stu he didn’t look at him matter of factly; he looked at him as if Stu shouldn’t have said anything especially not that.
Stu says “I didn’t kill anybody.”
Then Billy says “Nobody said you did.”
In which Stu replies with “Thanks, buddy.”
Then when discussing the gutting of a human being, Stu darkly volunteered information, “You take a knife, and you slit ‘em from groin to sternum.”
In which again, Billy checks him.

He asked her did she have a bf knowing she did then proceeds as if he’s interested in asking her out to reveal if she’s a cheater or not to find out if she cheated on him with Steve. He also already knew all the facts on her favorite scary movies so he use tactics to scheme her into getting all the questions wrong.

This is what happened. Caseys chase was so chaotic that it was a matter of who got to her first. Stu got knocked out by the phone so Billy had to go get her. Stabbing and strangling is Billys MO so Billy stabbed, strangled, and wounded Casey. He could've finished her off but he didn't because she was meant for Stu. After wounding her Billy brought her to Stu where Stu finished her off by gutting (his MO) her. So yes Stu did kill Casey but not in a way that we all thought he did.
As for recognizong the killer. She was shocked that it was a classmate and her ex's bestfriend. By then she figured out there were two killers so she knew Stu was involved.
Another detail. When Billy decided to strangle her, he was strangling her till she passes out where he can bring her to Stu so he can kill her.
When she was being dragged she you can see she mainly got stabbed on the sides. Meaning that Billy wounded her, brought her to Stu, and Stu delivered the fatal blow.

First off I dig the freaking analyzations. Bravo seriously. However, Scream just became that much more scary when you explained how Billy and Stu did their planning. Especially when you talked about how they already got into Sidney's house before she came home from school and how Stu was probably hiding in her closet. Very scary but very awesome.
To be quite honest, I always wondered how either Billy or Stu ended up in her closet? My guess is that they hid in their when she was tricked into walking outside into her porch to “investigate a strange noise”.

There was only 1 killer and that was Billy. He told Casey there are 2 main doors to the house (which was the front door and the patio door), one of which she was next to. That was the patio where Steve got killed. Billy was outside the patio door because he threw a chair through the patio doors' large windows before she could guess, so she ran down the hallway to the kitchen and right before she snuck out through the kitchen's side door that Billy didn't know about, she sees him down the hallway running across the rooms. If Stu was there he would be at the main door waiting and she would've been cornered, but he wasn't there cause he was at Tatum's house and she confirmed this to Randy.

What is so good about Billy & Stu both being Ghostface is that it explains why Ghostface kept seeming to get up quickly after being knocked out or suffering an injury that would slow them down.

I also heard that Skeet Ulrich improvised, and told Wes after he'd done, the look at the door when he began the conversation with Sidney right before they slept together. He gave the door a hard look before he sat on the bed cuz that was where Stu would be coming in from.
That’s because the plan was for billy to have sex with cid. And Stu would come and kill her making it look like billy survived the attack.
I agree with all of these except that I think that Tatum’s killer was definitely Stu. When she goes into the garage, the door is locked behind her from inside the house. The only way it could have been Billy is if he was already hiding in the garage. We don’t get a good view of the layout, but from what we do see, it’s pretty small; there doesn’t seem to be anywhere Billy could have hid without being obvious. But what really seals the deal for me that it was Stu is that, after Tatum is killed by the garage door, ghostface exits back through the house. First, it wouldn’t make sense for Billy to do this. He’s not supposed to be at the party yet. Second, it means the door’s unlocked now, so either Stu was waiting behind the door to unlock it for Billy to let him in the house for some reason even though he shows up at the front door the next scene, or Stu unlocked it so he could go in to kill Tatum. It makes more sense that: Stu hid his costume in a room near the garage, slipped it on real quick, killed her, went back into the house, took off the costume, and went back to the party. All in all, he would only be gone for a few minutes, which is plenty of time to have no one notice he was missing. The knowing look between Stu and Billy could mean anything, it’s not necessarily Billy confirming that Tatum’s dead. It could just be Billy checking in with Stu that everything’s still on track with their plan. Not to mention, the overall clumsiness and sadistic playfulness of ghostface in that scene really feels more like Stu.

It's funny. After watching each movie in the series the first time, on subsequent viewings, my family (mainly one of my sisters) and I would try to figure out who killed/attacked who. If my memory serves me correctly, we did settle on basically what you described in this video. We did think Stu may have been the one in the bathroom because there's no real sense of time, but thinking back, it is most likely to be a prankster for the same reasons you mentioned.
I remember when a fan asked both Skeet and Matthew “who killed who?” and they just laughed it off and claimed the fan was overthinking it. It’s clear from this video, that Wes directed them to handle their movements with the knife specifically to their character’s traits. It’s sad they didn’t even realise how much thought was put into it...
I guess they were holding onto his secrets for him.
Well it was a stunt guy in the suit,but all of this speaks to the detail stunt performers put into their performances that people often overlook. Good stunts really sell action.

I appreciate this movie so much more. People say it’s “cheesy” or “corny” but even if you didn’t know the intricate details such as the ones stated in this video, it is still an amazing ICONIC film. Truly amazing how they managed to keep track of the killers and came up with how to plan out their murders. And ya just gotta love Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard !!!🖤🖤🖤

What was always funny about the randy scene was that even though that ghostface was implied to be Stu, it's said that Skeet Ulrich was actually wearing the robe in that scene as a stand in for the ghostface actor.
You may be right about Stu (the character) being behind Randy alone after the party left, but it was actually the only time Skeet Ulrich (Billy) actually wore the ghost face costume in the movie.
Finally someone got that the bathroom scene was just a prank! Everytime I see a Scream video try to say that was Billy or Stu, it immediately brings down the quality of their timeline for me. They basically spell it out that it was prankster because Principal Hembry is seen raging at two students, one of whom was the one who ran in the hall and the other of whom scared Sidney in the bathroom. Can't help but wonder what Billy and Stu thought of that. I feel like they'd either be pleased that Sidney is being made to feel more unsafe, even by stuff that's not of their doing, or angry that they didn't think of it.

According to a behind the scenes, the only time an actor was in costume was when Ghostface is behind Randy, and it was Skeet Ulrich who asked Craven if he could do it just that time. Of course, every other scene is a stunt double

@@MrJorge006 that’s exactly why. The insurance you would have to take out on the actors to pull off certain stunts would cost a fortune. It’s easier and cheaper to just pay a stuntman to do it. Plus stuntmen/women would be able to do it all in less takes as compared to an untrained actor.

Yes Billy definitely killed Casey. I know she was intended to be killed by Stu but the chase was so chaotic that it was a matter of who got to her first.

Only afterwards was she gutted and hanged with Billy's help. Seriously, after an official tweet from the film's writer explicitly assigning the murder to Stuart(never denied by anyone)those who still believe Billy did it, I consider them Scream terrapaths.

I always thought that Billy was the mastermind, made the phone calls and Stu did most of the killing. I agree that both Billy and Stu attacked Casey. They were on in that together. Maybe the two people Billy killed by himself were the Principal and Tatem (obviously Stu had left the school at that point). On some level, Stu probably liked Tatem and didn't want to be the one to take her out.

Billy probably wanted to kill Sidney then and there but restrained himself because he wanted to mess with her head and torment her which he does later by first having Stu pretend to stab him after he and Sidney have sex faking his death. Then after the reveal Billy and Stu planned to make her watch them frame her dad for the murders, kill him then after that kill her.

The look of awkwardness? There’s two moments in the film where Billy breaks his character and it’s when he’s with Stu: When he tells Stu “Nobody said you did” out side of the school and as he’s walking away from Randy at the video store. This scene isn’t one of them.

I always had a hard time with Stu killing Steve. I felt like Billy was angry with Stu at the fountain scene when Stu said “Na, I didn’t kill anyone” and Billy responds “No one said you did.” Almost disappointed that Stu didn’t hold up his end of the bargain. But I also heard the other theory that Bill was basically telling Stu to STFU, so I understand that too.
All correct except from the bathroom being a prank. The Fonz was killed shortly after so it was clearly either Stu or Billy. My money is on Stu as Sidney has literally just argued with and ran away from Billy.

Well the guy who was wearing the ghost face costume was actually the actor for billy so that was billy
Stu killed everyone except Himbry. Stu likes to take his time, torture his victims before killing them. Billy wants to get the job done asap. When they reveal themselves to Sidney the way Stu says “Watch a few movies, take a few notes... it was fuuuun” shows his obsession for hunting down people. While Billy exacted revenge, Stu was actually the knife happy killer that’s why he always took his time and let the victims have a moment of reprieve before killing them.
1. Stu kills Casey & Steve (Casey dumped him for Steve). Billy was on the phone throughout - his impatience on the phone and lust for horror movies is proof.
2. Billy kills Himbry while Stu provides distraction. We can see Stu hurrying away after inviting the ladies. Billy got the job done asap without any bs.
3. Stu kills Tatum - Like mentioned above he played around before killing her. He also falls over a lot (a scene where he asks Tatum to get more beer he pretty much falls over the couch). His grunts in the garage are similar to those when he’s chasing Sidney after faking Billy’s death.
Most importantly - he sneaks back into the house while Billy shows up later and looks completely fresh (he probably showered after hanging Himbry)
Stu kills Kenny as we all know and he attacks Dewey as well as he loves to clean his knife after stabbing (which he does when he pulls out the knife from Dewey as he did for when he pretended to kill Billy).

This analysis is great and I mostly agree. The simplest way to explain it is that Billy and Stu girlfriend swap when it comes to the murders. That's why Billy kills Casey first to show Stu how it's done and when Stu's turn comes around (taking care of Sydney), he botches it. I think they were definitely trying to kill her in that first attack but Stu wasn't as confident as Billy.
That was just because of circumstance. It wasn't planned that way.

I kinda wonder how much Stu had to do with the Casey/Steve murders as Stu said the next day “I didn’t kill anybody”, in which Billy responds “nobody said YOU did” then he shoots Stu a “shut up” look. Just a thought….also I would find EXTREMELY awesome to e able to see a short film that shows how the town dealt with the aftermath including funerals and high school tributes

@@AsGoodAsItGetsMusic The grunts are done by a looping group that also did things like "See you later, Sid" ADR when Neve gets off the school bus (because she was the only one on there so they threw in voices so it wouldn't be obvious.) There's no reason they'd have a random voice actor say Stu's line or that they'd loop in Matthew Lillard's take in a previous scene (Rose hitting him with the lollipop seemed ad lib and his "Easy" would be, too.) It's just twisting random grunting sounds and trying to bend them to sound like words.

@National Sports Entertainment it's not irrational to be afraid of a horror movie, when you get immersed in a story it can feel like you are experiencing it too, hence why jump scares and feeling tensed and scared happens so often when watching horror movies.
Just a fun thought: I think Stu will be our killer again in Scream 5. I think about this because- PAUSE!
Update: Just saw SCREAM 5 and I still loved it even if Stu wasn’t in it.
Stu was originally going to be the main villain of Scream 3. He would be in prison and orchestrating attacks in high schools by his followers that he’d gained after the first one. This plot was scrapped after Columbine happened, but the serial killer cult led by a man in prison was still used by Kevin Williamson in his show The Following.

Not gonna happen 100%. The main rule of every whodunit movie is that you see all the suspects from the very beginning. In Stu's case his face can be revealed only in the very end and that twist will tell nothing to the general audiences, apart from a relatively small fan base.

I think Kevin intended it to be Stu in the script, but Wes with his direction made it so that it was Billy. (I read someone saying that because Billy is the main antagonist it makes sense to make him the killer at such a pivotal moment.) Just depends if you put more stock in the writer or the director, but since so much can change from the page to the actual film, I'm going with Wes on this one.

I think Stu killed Tatum. Billy appears at the other side of the house while the ghostface who kills her walks back in. I also saw somewhere that billy would’ve had to take the long way if he left through the garage
The only thing I’d change is, I think Stu killed Casey. If he’s out for revenge against an ex girlfriend he’s going to want to kill her. And the ghost face chasing her is tall, like Stu; as I would classify Billy as average height. Like in that whole Casey sequence Billy’s on the phone and Stu the one physically going after and killing Casey; who rejected/broke up with him.
Billy probably had Stu do the majority of the work so he could blame it all on him if they got caught.
I always felt the Ghostface stalking during the pre party scenes were never intended to be taken at face value. The movie hadn’t revealed who the killers were yet and it was more symbolic that it was someone following and stalking them but not necessarily in costume as obviously the actors couldn’t be shown yet. And it was also another nod to Halloween.

Something I’ve always noticed is at the start of the film Billy hides when he hears Sidney’s dad come to her room door after she screamed. She told him everything was ok and he explained where he was going and leaving early in the morning. Billy was the only other person hearing this, so after he left Sidney’s room he told stu so it basically worked good for them. I assume that because her dad had the same clothes on from the first time we see him that they attacked him that night.
The ATTENTION to DETAIL in these movies are INSANE!!! The Entire time each movie gives the Audience Subtle hints at who the Killer is!!! I Love this Franchise!!! 😱📞🔪

True. Wes Craven says it on the commentary track. But only because they typically have a stunt actor playing ghostface. This doesn't confirm it was Billy though. Skeet just wanted to wear the costume and Wes still directed him as if it were Stu.

The first time I watched scream 1, I watched it with my best friend, his mum and his baby brother. I said in Billy’s introduction scene “I think Billy’s the killer. Something just seems off about him” when we found out Billy’s the killer we all went wild that I guessed it
I think Stu was hiding behind the chair as he was gutting Steve. You might be able to notice a slight movement from behind the seat underneath. I doubt Stu had enough time to run out of sight in time for Casey not to notice someone, plus the sound of Steve getting gutted happened relatively quickly that the lights go on directly after.

6:54 I have always noticed ghostface saying “easy, easy” as he was chasing Sidney up the stairs. I always thought it was the stunt actor playing ghostface and was added in by accident. Like how in scream 2 when Cici was thrown off the balcony you can see a crew member’s head pop up behind the balcony in the lower right corner of the screen. (they removed it on the new Blu-ray release but if you have the dvd from way back you’ll spot it). Never noticed that Stu said it in school though! Pretty good attention to detail there.

Also notice that Billy's mask is different than Stu's during the first two times he's seen as Ghostface. There's a real world reason for this, as they hadn't secured the rights to the Funworld outfit when those two scenes were filmed, but it's interesting to note that the two times you see a clearly different Ghostface mask are both Billy.
The mask that Billy chases Casey with is clearly different than the one Stu has inside the house, and Stu is never seen with a mask like that, meaning it could technically serve as an early hint that there are two Ghostfaces.
