One of my math professors is kind of like Professor Umbridge.
Umbridge:
1. Her students only learn by reading the textbook.
2. Her students aren't allowed to try doing the magic they have learned about in the textbook until the practical exams.
My professor:
1. We learn over 90% of the material by reading the textbook.
2. All of the homework is due at the end of the semester, which means that we have no idea if we're doing the problems correctly until the tests and quizzes.
The good thing though is that my professor is nice. Take Umbridge, make her nice and give her some polyjuice potion that has the hair of an old overweight man, and you get my professor.

Umbridge always kinda scared me because she is literally the evil version of my godmother; she is an older woman who loves pink, has a giddy girly personality, loves cats, has a very high pitched voice, had a signature fashion sense in the family, she (admittedly) has a face that just barely resembles that of a toad (sorry!), etc (the list goes on and on). Unlike Umbridge, however, she is the sweetest person you could ever meet. Still, the similarities between them are very unsettling.

The actress for Umbridge is just AMAZING. I feel like everyone forgets that. They keep on about how awful she is as a character, and I feel like the actress changed everyone’s view of how they saw her, and if she hadn’t acted even slightly as well as she did, the poor actress would have been ROASTED.
Plus: people hating on Jo Rowling should remember that she had a teacher at school who Umbridge was based on.

And I thought that Umbridge was bad in the books because she only inflicted her punishment method on Harry and Lee as well as getting Fred, George, and Harry a lifetime ban from playing Quidditch.

Messing with McGonagall was actually one of the better things she could've done. No one messes with McGonagall and gets away with it, the woman's a legend.

So no I wasn't a Death Eater, but technically speaking neither was the Dark Lord... incidently I outranked almost all of them in our government, Madame Lestrange being perhaps the sole exception.😏

Madame Lestrange and the Dark Lord ran the country from Malfoy Manor... the rest of them, the ones I interacted with in London, answered to me. Turning the wheels of the state, staging coups, prosecuted traitors, and manipulating the masses may not be as glamorous as "glory on the battlefield" but it's just as neccesary and every bit as powerful.
You don't succeed in this field if you can't handle yourself in groups... I dare say I was quite well liked among groups like the Death Eaters, as we seldom disagreed. If the only groups you're considering are the Order of the Phoenix and their weak muggle sympathizing allies then no, I suppose I don't we well in them... those groups are insufferable, so I was sure to dispose of them as soon as was possible😏 *shrill giggle*

You really think I was associating so closely with Malfoy, Yaxley, Travers and the rest and didn't know their history, who they were really... that I stood at the forefront of the Death Eaters coup, and had no idea who it was couping in my favor or who I was couping with? As for Azkaban... Well I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the fact that Shacklebolt knew I did know what I was doing and with whom. Pity he and his collaborators weren't brought down at Hogwarts. Even bigger pity the Dementors were replaced... they'd have let me out in a heartbeat. Oh well... the Order is still naive as ever. It's only a matter of time before the Augurey sings, and the Order falls for the final time. I'll be waiting patiently. *giggles* 😊

In the fourth movie (not entirely sure about the book (it's been awhile since I've read it)), but when snape confronts (and half heartedly threatens) harry with veritus strum, he does say that using it on students is forbidden.
And yeah, umbridge is the worst character in literature and film.

When I read the book I immediately thought that Miriam Margoyles would be a brilliant fit for playing this character. Too bad she had already been cast as Sprout. Imelda Staunton was pretty damn good though.
