      This is a great video, but the only one I disagree with is Harry breaking the Elder Wand. That was perfectly necessary, Voldemort got the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's grave, and it was too much trouble for what it's worth. Breaking it for good was the right decision.

    The scene where Neville visits his parents in the hospital just tore me apart. When his mother hands him - I think it's a candy-wrapper - for a Christmas present and Neville's grandmother tells him to throw it out, but he secretly puts it in his pocket instead...it is so heartbreaking. I know they have time constraints in film, but adding that scene wouldn't have taken long, would have added so much to Neville's character and would have packed an emotional wallop.

    I think the worst omission is not including the reasoning as to why Harry has to stay at the Dursleys every year - it's because Petunia, being Lily's sister, causes the protection charm to work on Harry, meaning that, while the Dursleys are awful human beings, their house truly is the safest place for him.

      I'm not the biggest of Ron fans, but even I had respect for him in the books, not just for his great moments, but as the most consistent character throughout the book. He changed/evolved as the story went on, but his character remained much more consistent throughout the book, as opposed to Harry and Hermione, whose characters changed to suit the plot at times. Now I like Harry and Hermione more than Ron, but even I didn't like how their characters would change just so Rowling could get the exact end goal she wanted instead of keeping them consistent and finding a creative way to get the desired end result.

    • @cocokai9661
      @cocokai9661 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@TheAwkwardGamer Nah, Ron was annoying in the books as well. He was lazy and envious. Don't forget how he acted in the Goblet of Fire. He spent months pouting because Harry got to compete. And in both books and movie, it was shown that he had the weakest character when he deserted his friends in the Deathly Hollows. There were things I liked about Ron, but he wasn't as good a friend to Harry as Hermione was.

  • @SweenyTodd98
    @SweenyTodd98 5 ปีที่แล้ว +793

    The perfect example of how they screwed Ron over is the scene in the Shrieking Shack in Prisoner of Azkaban. Remember in the movie when Hermione tells Sirius, "If you want to kill Harry you'll have to kill us too!"? Yeah in the book that was Ron who said that while standing up despite a broken leg to protect his best friend! The movies really gave Ron the shaft and I don't understand why multiple times they gave his moments to Hermione who didn't need them.

      The worst offense for me was in Chamber of Secrets. In the book where the trio are at Hagrid 's and Ron was coughing up slugs Ron was the one explaining to Harry and Hermione what the term "Mudblood" meant. In the movie Hermione explained it! It made more sense in the book because Ron is a pureblood and he has lived in the wizarding world all his life. While Harry and Hermione lived in the muggle world. They knew nothing about the wizarding world until they got their letters to Hogwarts.

      @@maysummers13 Well when you stop to think about it Ron's scenes in the books are from relatively unimportant moments that can easily be given to other characters. Because of that much of it got cut for time. It didn't help that Ron is only around for 3 of Harry's 7 adventures and actually abandoned Harry during their seventh one.
      In regards to his relationship with Hermione the books don't really show them as being anything more than friends and really heavily relies on the reader accepting the idea that runs happen when the reader isn't reading. Which isn't convincing to everyone but it works on the books because of the medium. But in movies it needs to be shown.

    • @91clarie
      @91clarie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@maysummers13 I still ship Draco and Hermione tbh that storyline would have been awesome. Malfoy falling for the "mudblood" and Hermione for the bad boy. That pairing was actually JK Rowling's original idea but then she felt like it would have been too complicated to develop with all that was going on in the main plot so she decided to go with a more "convenient" pairing which was Ron and Hermione. Which she actually then regretted in later interviews 😂 PS if any of you are #Dramione shippers like me I can recommend the fanfic "ISOLATION". It is incredibly well-written and thought through, it's actually an alternate version of Deathly Hallows. It's SO GOOD! 😍

      I think it's better in the movie, it shows the trust that Harry has in Dumbledore and therefore Snape. It also sends the message to Harry that something important is about to happen here so pay attention. In the books he has a blind hatred of Snape coming off like a loose canon who can't be trusted not to ruin the grand plan. JK also seems to be trying her upmost in this scene to not only turn us against Snape but convince us that Harry's blind hatred is justified. That he's held back by shock rather than magic I think makes the moment much more emotionally interesting especially with Alan Rickman's acting. In the books he's said to have contempt and venom towards Dumbledore but in the Movie you can see in his eyes that he's reluctantly carrying out an order to kill someone who he's grown to respect and admire.

      Craig Bickerstaff- Its Snape's chracter development that he was made for hatred in the first 6 books and made to sympathise (with some readers) in the last. Oh man, Voldemort's death in the movie pissed me off SOOOO MUCH. The book was so much better, where Harry and Voldemort basically have a conversation while circling each other and Harry revealing in THAT MOMENT that he's the true master of the Elder Wand (as opposed to the movie, where Harry figures it out AFTER the battle). And then their spells collide (not merge) and Voldemort's rebounding spell kills him.
    If there's one big scene that they totally and completely fucked up, it's that one. They could've fucked up multiple others scenes and I'd find it forgivable. But that last scene was like Imperius, Cruciatus and Avada Kedavra: Unforgivable.

Harry was surprised that Petunia knew what Dementors where and when he asked “how do you know” she kept saying, “doesn’t matter go to your room”
      And with Dudley, in the Deathly Hallows, in the book when he, Petunia, and Vernon are leaving Dudley is seriously worried about leaving Harry, because Dudley is worried about Harry’s safety. Harry asks Dudley if the Dementors encounter changed him and Dudley goes “I think so”. My mother told me there is one scene in the books, where Harry accidentally breaks a cup of tea when he opens his bedroom door and he thinks Dudley is playing a joke on him, but Harry stops and considers, maybe Dudley was trying to be friendly

Not because they are bad, which they absolutely are not, but how much important stuff they left out. You can’t put everything from the book into the movie as they are totally different art forms, but you can’t just change important stuff that helped the story flow well in the book. The worst is how they changed Voldemort's death in the final film. In the book, everyone witnesses the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort, when Harry explains how he's the true owner of the elder wand, which I still think is one of the greatest plot twists ever. Voldemort is then killed when his spell backfires and then everyone breaks out into a huge celebration (while also still remembering/mourning those who died). It's perfect! In the movie, no one witnesses the final battle or how Harry outsmarts Voldemort about the elder wand. And then Harry goes back into the castle and everyone is all depressed. Totally anti-climactic and completely took away any sense of victory or fulfillment.
    I also think it's horrible how they robbed Neville of his big moment. Yes, in the movie, he kills the snake with the sword of Griffindor and saves Ron and Hermione, but they're the only ones who witness his heroism. In the book, he kills the snake when he pulls the sword from the hat in front of everyone and it's epic! In the movie, they have him pathetically thwarted by a spell when he first pulls the sword out of the hat in front of everyone. The movie ruined two of the best moments in all the books.

    How they ruined Ginny in the films always pissed me off. In the books she was so cool, a great witch, sassy and all that. In the movies she was just meh. In the books it made sense why Harry fell in love with her, she was very lovable and the backstory of how they got together was much more described. In the movies it just seemed like they kissed once, never dated and then got married. Their relationship was much deeper in the books. That is why most of people who haven't read the books ship usually Harry with Hermione because they had bigger chemistry on screen. In the books, they were obviously still very close friends but the chemistry wasn't that big. For me, reading the books, Harry and Ginny were a great couple.

    Something I missed a bit from the films was the attitude Harry had in the books - in the films he's usually a low-key pessimistic guy with happy moments, whereas in the books he had a really interesting resignated kind of personality with some sarcastic humor. Probably very minor, but the goodbye scene with Dudley reminded me of that.
    "I don't think you're a waste of space."

    It wouldn't have fit well with movie-Harry but was absolutely spot on for book-Harry who seemed like he realized how strange life could be sometimes.

      She wasn’t fickle at all. In the flashback in Deathly Hallows, we’re told that Snape called all muggleborns except Lily “mudbloods” regularly, and that he had no problem with his other friends aspiring to be death eaters and attacking other muggleborn students with dark magic. He was fully on board with Voldemort’s anti-muggle philosophies and just pretended that Lily was somehow an exception to that. But then she tried to help him during that scene in Their 5th year and he called her a “filthy little Mudblood” and said that he didn’t need her help - he was embarrassed being seen needing help from someone of “lesser blood”, and Lily finally realized that Snape would always view her as a lesser human, despite claiming to be her friend. He was loyal to the death eaters and deep into dark magic and after years of pleading with him to change his ways, she finally had to break off her friendship with him to protect herself.

      Hermione, of course, was in many ways tougher. She was able to shoulder through a mountain of social pressures and became one of Hogwarts most successful students. She fought for what she believed in and shed more than tears. She was willing to die for the rights of the downtrodden, human and all manner of creatures.

    Number 2 made me scream in delight and get really excited! It's so true! Ron got completely changed into a comic relief character. His lines got skipped to Hermione and they even changed simple lines towards Hermione from extremely sweet into rude. Such as the scene where Snape calls Hermione an "Insufferable know it all" in the third book. In the movie, Ron tells Hermione that Snape has a point, while in the book he stands up for her by yelling at Snape that "Why ask a question when you don't want an answer." He gets detention for standing up for Hermione when he noticed Snape hurt her feelings. No wonder people felt like they lacked chemistry. The movies cut all of it out. I loved Rupert Grint as an actor. So, this has nothing to do with him. Since skipping lines isn't his fault. It's the writers'.

    • @ibtiago18
      @ibtiago18 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dumbledore and Voldemort are equals in terms of magical mastery and that is visible in both iterations of the duel since none could really outclass the other. The big diference is that whyle the book version showed Dumbledore keeping calm and colected troughout the duel to intimidate Voldemort, the movie showd him geting woried and Voldemort more confident to highten the tension. In both cases, Voldemort realises he can't win easly against Dumbledore so he tries a cheap tactic. That's where Dumbledore, and Harry for that matter are superior to Voldemort. They have way better character. Dumbledore engaged in a duel knowing full well he could loose and die to protect Harry, whyle Voldemort only fought because he was desperate to kill Harry before Harry could "Vanquish" him and gave up the duel once he saw he could loose.
