It's funny because I wasn't a fan at all of Architects older stuff, then Animals came out and I realised I had to revisit them. Now, they're one of my favourite bands! FTTWTE was released at a really stressful time in my life, so maybe that's why it's stuck with me, but I love that album so fucking much. Different fans for different eras/sounds, I guess?

The Way It Ends will always be a perfect 10/10 album for me, from Currents
Its so well rounded, well mixed, and leaves you wanting MORE.
Better Days, Kill the Ache, Monsters, Flag to Wave, As I Fall Apart.
    Emotional, hard hitting. Loved it.
    The Death We Seek?
Leaves me sad. Potential for a generational album, but the mix and production has really.. made it a forgettable album. THAT album leaves me wanting more, but in the worst way possible..
I used to stan Currents, even GLAZE it, but TDWS hasn't lasted through the test of time.
Thankfully, Heavener was there to lift me up when i needed it most.

The Way It Ends isn’t my favorite Currents album but I just could not get behind Heavener. Loved the song Shade Astray, but the djenty/proggy style of metalcore just isn’t something I really gravitate towards except the occasional odd band.

Absolutely agree I have nearly the exact same thoughts about currents last 2 albums! Love 'the way it ends' (besides Devil in disguise EP these 2 are my fav releases from them), but didn't like Death we seek except for 1 song, sadly. Also loved their other releases like 'Life/Lost' EP or their first album, which I don't know the name now sry. So their last release was a big letdown for me, it didn't catch me like I was expecting or hoping. Still a currents fan tho and looking forward, maybe their next stuff is more of a hitter

While The Way it Ends has arguably the best production and SOME of their best songs, The Place I Feel Safest is still their best work imo. So many incredible grooves and riffs on that album that i can't help feel a bit underwhelmed by everything they've put out since.

Trivium is like a top 5-10 metalcore band of all time. They have an insane discography, with arguably only having maybe only 2 albums that are below average (Ember to Inferno, their first album and Silence in the Snow, no screaming). The rest, all have their own, unique distinct sound that has kept them super relevant and well liked by old and new heads. Also their last 3 albums, they have been on a tare since adding the new drummer. Rarely is a band making some of their best work 20 years after the fact; so they definitely deserve the win; albeit in a irrelevant fun contest.

I got into currents earlier this year, i had heard them before in for you playlists on spotify prior but when I heard Unfamiliar and So Alone I fell in love, so TDWS is what really got me in, but I can totally see why people dont like it as much as the TPIFS and TWIE, I can even see why people think TPIFS is their peak, all 3 albums are very different from each other and I kinda like that

  • @toyotaecw

-I actually heavily preferred Classic Symptoms to Wish to Exist. Mostly it was comparatively more guitar driven and cohesive. Wish to Exist at one point was going to be a double album…
-The Death We Seek is a decent album just to headbang to, the title track is still goes hard AF
-Considering 1/2 of Spiritbox is former IWABO members (late in the band’s run though) and 1/4 was in AILD since 2007… they’re kinda OG metalcore in a sense.

As a die hard currents fan, I agree. The mix and production on TDWS leaves so much to be desired. TWIE had such an amazing mix and production level to it. You could feel the ATMOSPHERE of the album, whereas with TDWS felt less like a story, and more like a typical album. Big miss.

I personally find the biggest obstacle to me liking modern metal more (I've always gravitating to classic bands like Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden more) is the distinguish-ability between songs on any given album. These classic bands and even heavier older bands like Pantera prioritized distinguishable riffs and songs above all else, whereas modern metal is more about vibes backed by increasingly generic djenty or tweedly-tweedly riffs.

    • @chrizszx
      @chrizszx 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I just cant get into classic bands, to me they lack emotion, the many riffs they have look so boring for me, it's like if they were doing them just for the shake of it and not because the song really needs them, dont like most of their production too. I prefer hundred times bands like Northlane or Vildhjarta over these classics

My opinions on metalcore haven't really changed over the past number of years. I still think metalcore has gotten boring for the most part and I'm not connecting with newer bands. I think Paledusk has some fun songs, and the new Chelsea Grin lineup has been killing it for the past 5 years, but otherwise it's groups of the past that I like. I also want to hear more of what the bands sound like but modern production is crushing and distorting everything and the recordings are more like electronic music than a live metal band. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
