Very useful considerations! In many situations the much cheaper 35/1.8 STM is good enough, and almost nobody will see any difference to the 35/1.4 L VCM. In nature photography the 35/1.8 is the more versatile lens, because I can go very close to the subject. But when I have to shoot dynamic scenes with people moving around, or when I have to cover an eucharistic liturgy in a church for example, which often means bad light, I miss sadly the capabilities the new 35/1.4 VCM would give me: Faster, and better autofocus! Therefore I will purchase it as well, sooner or later. For the moment, it is quite expensive here in Switzerland, it costs 1700 CHF (Swiss Francs).
Thanks for the review! At this point all modern canon lenses are sharp enough to do professional work with them, but the L often allowed me to focus quicker and silently :) the tiny 35 1.8 is good but it often focus hunt and quite noisy.
Great video. Appreciated your thoughts up front comparing the 1.4 and 1.8. I didn't see a huge difference between the two, especially for another $1000.
Disagree - it is very sharp, great colours, and good contrast - even wide open. Yes - there is much distortion, but it's well corrected. A great and very versatile lens. I will go for it especially for it's excellent autofocus - very important in photography (low light) as in videography.
@@alirezamalekahmadi3435 I noticed that too. I believe it was because the reflection of the light in my glasses blocked my eye temporarily. And since I’m using eye autofocus it lost focus for a split second. That and I was shooting wide open at 1.4 so the DOF was very shallow. But I agree for the price I thought it was gonna be more sticky
What do y’all think about the new 35mm VCM L lens? Let me know in the comments!

@@markusbolliger1527 the autofocus is definitely the thing that sticks out to me especially against the 1.8

@@GP996_LB definitely better and quieter autofocus on the L. I’m debating now if this is worth the money to upgrade

Its shocking how close they are. Either the 1.8 is a lot better than people think or the 1.4 isnt made as well as we thought
New here ✊🏾
@@chalmerdixon3530 yurrrrr!!! Welcome!
Optically it is not that good. Correction takes out the cost for manufacturing solid optics. Price is insane for that kind of optics.
@@Hubieee definitely unsure if it’s $1000 difference worthy from the 1.8

there were some unacceptable focus breathing during the video for this price tag!!

@CAMphotography_ if the cause is the reflection, we can overcome the issue by using a CPL filter
