    Pentax produced its high-spec 43mm lens decades ago, which was so good they produced about 2,000 copies in Leica screw mount. The first intentional 43mm lens on a Leica was the Pentax-L 43mm.

      The only flaw I see in the q43 is some distinct (though minor) cyan loca in high contrast oof areas. My q3 28 has little to no loca at all. I would’ve expected an apo lens to have none as well. Doesn’t bother me, but is this normal for this lens, or just my copy?

    Now, with your explanation of the 43mm diagonal explanation for the 60mp sensor, do you think Leica should make a 43mm SL3 or M11 lens?

    • @RedDotForum

      Considering Leica already has numerous excellent options for both SL and M in 35 and 50, I doubt we'll see a 43mm for either of these systems.

    That comment about needing a wide angle lens when you’re backed up against a wall is the exact thing that caused me to fully understand focal length. I was in an alley trying to make a picture of a car with my 50mm Summicron. Didn’t work out. I had to pull out my X100V to capture the image. I’m reminded of that moment every time I get the urge to trade my Q328 for a Q343.

    • @RedDotForum

      We always said with the original Q that you were paying for an exceptional 28mm f/1.7 Summilux lens and got a free camera. Suppose you could make the same argument for the Q3 43. You're getting one of the best 35/50 range lenses Leica has ever produced, along with a free full-frame 60MP digital body.

  • @SamAbram-dl1mg
    @SamAbram-dl1mg วันที่ผ่านมา

    Would you buy a 50mm summilux sl or M 50 lux if you had the Leica q3 43mm and crop to 50mm

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  วันที่ผ่านมา

      It depends! If I am assuming you are buying this lens for an SL camera, I would ask a few key questions. First, are you looking for autofocus, weather sealing, and electronic aperture control, with the trade-off being a lens that is larger and heavier than an M lens? Or, is your main priority to minimize size and weight, assuming you're comfortable with manual focus? For outright performance, the 50 Lux SL wins, but if you want the "M lens magic", the 50 Lux M is the way to go. There are more variables to consider but more than I could throw into a TH-cam comment! -Josh

    Folks I am so sorry but you are defending that they did not include a charger that is OK, completely fine. In my humble opinion it is not OK, it is not fine. Let's say I am wrong, in that case they shouldn't Leica reduce the price instead of jacking up $600. Both saving the environment but also saving consumer some money? Yes I will buy one but I am pissed with they not including the charger and hood/not fitting filters.

Leica is a premium product at a premium price and they increase always every year the prices, no matter whether you have inflation or not. BUT not to include a 10$ charger (production costs) with the Q3 43 is not at all premium. It is called "screw the customer with bad excuses".

      @@dirk.4711 Ha I wasn’t disagreeing with you per se. Prices are up!

      The decision to omit chargers and adopt USB-C fast charging across all products is a compliance move from Leica, not a cash-grab. The EU is actively working to eliminate electronic waste. The legislation, passed in 2022, requires compliance by year end 2024. This includes moving to a unified USB-C charging architecture and unbundling chargers for small and mid-sized electronics (cameras, phones, tablets, etc), with larger electronics like laptops to follow in 2026.
      DxO has a good summary on the issue - www.dxomark.com/eu-device-charging-legislations:
      "Last year the European Council, Commission and Parliament agreed on new legislation whose principal aim is to reduce electronic waste and emissions in the EU. As a result, all new smartphones, tablets, cameras and other electronic gadgets marketed in the EU will have to come with a USB-C charging port by fall 2024. In addition, chargers will be unbundled from devices, giving consumers the choice whether to buy a new charger with a device or keep using the old one."

    Is there any truth to this sensor being the same sensor found in the Sony camera?

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Leica does not state in their technical specifications who manufactures the sensor. This is quite common across the industry, as there are only a handful of huge companies who have the capacity to manufacture CMOS sensors. What matters (for the photographs) is the expertise of the company who designs the sensor optics, supporting electronics, and software that turn a piece of silicon into a photo-creating tool. This one of the things Leica excels at, which is why, for example, their SL line of cameras performs well with M lenses, that historically don't retain sharpness on non-rangefinder digital bodies.

    Can anyone clarify if this 43mm lens is designed by Panasonic and rebranded as Leica? I do not mind if it is a rebranded Panasonic lens, but if it is, but I prefer a fairer price. We Leica users paid for the Leica brand but not rebranded Panasonic

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      No, the Q system has always been designed and built in-house at Leica. The standard 28mm f/1.7 Summilx on the Q3 and the new 43mm f/2 APO-Summicron lenses are both Leica original and exclusive designs. Sure, Leica does lean on Panasonic as a long-time (20+ years) technology parter for things like AF and OIS tech. But Leica brings the expertise when it comes to optical engineering.

    • @moltonlava
      @moltonlava 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They definitely work closely with Panasonic on the design of many of their cameras (D-Lux, SL and Q-series), but Panasonic doesn't sell their own versions of them, so I wouldn't call that rebranding at all. They use Sony sensors too, which I don't think anyone is complaining about. :)

      Q3 43 makes more sense. It’s still Q3, just with a different lens. And when they release the Q4 series, they can name it Q4 28 and Q4 43. Although I hope they will finally admit it’s 24mm and name it Q4 24 or make a real 28mm lens, ideally APO😄

    base on the mtf 43mm lens is better than ecerything leica made to date . including m apo35 . although clearly lens from the comparison is close/far focused and or recentered . I have apo 35m and it is stupid sharp by leica standard . its mtf is slightly worse than 43mm maybe 10% . which would be very hard to distinguish in shack comparison ( here ) . also sl and Q cams have in body correction that include CA off and sharpness addition that M doesn't have . so M lenses bring their real performance ( if one as myself turns off all profiling and correction in software AND compare RAW files . all and all I want that 43mm lens . but don't want the q camra... the answer to this predicament is to get dem q43 or.. get another 50mm M for m :) lol working on the decision for week now

    I urge those of you who love your Leica q3s (whichever focal length you choose)DO NOT charge your battery inside your camera. I bricked a brand new Nikon d850 by charging it the way that Nikon said to which was running a USB-C to the camera. We had a lightning strike when the camera was plugged into a charging block that was plugged into the wall. IT CAN HAPPEN. My Nikon was replaced under warranty. The power surge jumped right thru the charger into the camera. Wrecked the camera, but I was following Nikons instructions and was under warranty so they sent me a new one. You really shouldn't do it, and you should never tell people that damage by exceptional electricity situations can't happen. It can and occasionally does. Everyone should use a battery charger and charge them outside the camera body.
