Some people try to make this about "Console Wars." It's not, and that whole subject is just stupidity. The companies do not care about you, so there's no reason to "Fight" for them. I like to point out when there are things that are good or bad for the world of media, be it games, movies, comics or more. This whole thing, I truly believe, is bad for gaming. It's promoting a future where you have less options and are forced to abide by what some faceless megacorp asks, or not partake in your hobbies. I find that ridiculous, and I find people who defend it equally ridiculous. People who make it about console wars are usually just mad they could only afford one thing so they're mad at the other. I couldn't afford to get both Xbox and PS5 this generation until way later and recently got a Series X which I like. I didn't just attack anyone with an Xbox when I didn't have one lmao like what is wrong with people?
The minute this news came out I saw a bunch of People tweeting or speaking videos either being smug as hell, gassing up Xbox or claiming that this is what happens if you don't support Microsoft which is dumb as hell.
One guy even went as far as to say that the best way to combat this is to buy more Xbox consoles immediately, as if that'll solve anything in terms of the current industry shift moving away from physical media.
I'm so tired of how this always happens whenever one company gets into some sort of controversy up or good PR, where the 'other side' uses this as an opportunity to gloat, or cope and it is so stupid considering none of this benefits us whole as consumers.
None of these corporations, that being Sony, Microsoft and especially Nintendo give two rats about us, And the thing their ever move are saying that 'Oh my favorite brand would never do this' is stupid and not productive to the conversation

Yup. Now just imagine how bad that's inevitably going to be with scalpers on Amazon and Ebay. The OG Ps5 was going for anywhere from 1000-2000 bucks at one point from second hand retail stores like Ebay. The Ps5 Pro will probably double that.
I shutter to think what the additional external disc drives to attach to the Ps5 pro will end up costing on the secondary market. I'm not sure I want to know.

Physical media needs to be preserved for future generations so I can put a rdr2 ps4 disc into my ps7 and will still work and my grandkids could experience it

To be honest, it feels like at this point in the future, people are now officially getting older and gaming feels like it slowly going to die itself down,no longer going to be a hobby anymore nowadays due to industries and companies making terrible managements and,price gouging, miscommunication, little care from customers,etc feels like we literally ahead to a terrible future but i can't think about it negatively because thats what the world expects you to think like that but try to be positive.
Game publishers and companies etc have always been greedy but I feel like in the past few years it has got to disgusting levels of greed and they no longer care about putting out games made with care and passion but instead games that are like they were made on a conveyor belt to make as much money as possible, every company wants to make the next Fortnite and in doing so they have completely turned there backs on there customers and have become completely out of touch with what they want, it’s sad to see man
Hopefully we at least get some bangers made with UE6 before that happens. I have a huge backlog so if gaming died I still would have enough to play until I die

I completely agree with you here, this is the result of what happens when Sony gets to be number one for way too long and becomes too arrogant.
The scariest thing about all of this, isn't even just the price, it's the fact that Sony even considered shipping out a console in the first place that doesn't have a disk drive, much less it being the only option for this model in the first place.
There is no 'PS5 Pro,' then 'PS5 Pro Digital Version,' the discless version is now _the standard_ and the disc drive is a whole another purchase. And the worst part?

This entire debacle is a deliberate plan by Sony so that they can gauge whether or not they can fully go in on the All digital forefront next generation, and abandoned physical media entirely.
And to be honest, I won't even be surprised if in 2027 and above, the PS6 and next Xbox are fully digital, with no option to even buy a disc drive separately...
Gme preservation everyone, it is a battle that is becoming more and more apparent to each of us and is one that we are unfortunately losing cuz these businesses just want a little more extra money from our wallets.

@@azurekite3870 I will put it like this ps5 pro + disc drive (currently in many EU countries with ridiculous high prices) + stand (as I need it) it more than 900eur. Let’s assume I have a 1000eur for entertainment I can spent freely I have would spent it on on other hardware than ps5 pro.

I only buy physical games, I need ownership of games to collect and resale if I want. I haven't played Black Myth Wukong yet because of no physical copy. Buying full price for a digital game you can't collect or resale is insane.
It's a bad investment not owning what you pay for, you get nothing back.
Sony just gave us what might've been the greatest 10 minute advertisement for PC gaming every made, cuz there's;
No 4k gaming at 120fps,
No Backwards Compatibility,
No UI QoL changes
No additional External SSD Port
$700 USD
And the disk drive is sold separately...
Then there's PC where you can decide on how much you want to spend, don't have to pay extra for any type of online subscription bs, can use any controller you want, _and_ you get an actual Computer to do other stuff from multitasking on the web browse to talking with friends on an actual good communication platform like Discord while streaming your game to them.
If this ain't a crowning endorsement for PC gaming, than idk what is.

If they include a disk drive on the PS6 that'll add like 1,500,000-3,000,000 more units sold in the first year, backwards compatibility is important to. Netting them maybe 1,000,000-2,000,000 more units sold per console generation included in BC accessibility (In the first year alone of course)

The pricepoint here in the UK is daylight robbery. Yes $700 USD is insane in itself, but account for exchange rates and thats around £550 GBP. That’s around how much the standard PS5 is retailing for, whereas the pro is being sold for £700 GBP which through exchange back to USD is over $900 USD. That is fucking insane.
The price for the ps5 pro here in Europe is crazy €800 for the console,€100 for the disc drive and €30 for the stand and if you add in a game aswell thats over a €1000
If PS5 pro couldn't play psysical games, that means PS6 will support only digital games for next generation, and we couldn't collect psysical games anymore, that sucks. Psysical games will be extinct.
Glad you’ve made a video on this. Both the price and lack of physical games for $900 here in the UK is absolutely insane. Another few hundred and you can get a PC that’s more capable. The greed on display here is eye watering and this console is literally spitting in the face of what a console is.
Just a sad time to be a console fan. Once physical goes away for console I’m exclusively gaming on my PC but even then consoles should exist as affordable gaming and this is not that; I don’t think PS6 is gonna be anything below 600 and I have a bad feeling it may not even have an option for discs full stop.

I have the entire kingdom hearts collection on physical discs people who say that the 1.0 version is unplayable truly didnt live in a age where we didnt need patches and dlc every 5 minutes. Its a shame for them as well as us as all it does is help this live service, anti-ownership nonsense.

OR and just hear me out, people should just let this thing flop so they learn their lesson. This whole “I have to have the latest and greatest to flex” isn’t a flex when it’s something to be embarrassed over and not proud of. There’s hardly any PS5 exclusives worth “upgrading” to PS5 for anyways. I picked up the Spiderman version and so far it’s just that and soon to be DBZ Tenkaichi 4, otherwise literally all my other games for it came out for PS4 too. Or they came out and run better on PC like Gotham Knights is capped at 30fps on PS5 but can do 60+ on PC. So the hardware isn’t even close to getting pushed to its limits. There’s barely reason to own a PS5 and them 2 hours of battery life ain’t much of a reason either. There ain’t no reason to get rid of the disc drive for a system that ain’t even necessary. Hell, I use my PS5 more as a 4k player than a game system, but no disc drive means no movies either. Or those Collectors Editions I be buying for the physical goodies usually come with physical copies of the games so this “upgrade” can’t even play the games I’m buying as Collectors Editions. What a downgrade. I’m sticking to the Spiderman one so I can play CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray’s, 4ks, all my PS4 games which are all physical, and all my PS5 games. Digital only also means years from now when they cut PlayStation online support it will be another paperweight of a system like the digital only PSP Go. We need to let this system go and let it flop, this isn’t worth it. PS5 is 4 years old and halfway through its life cycle and still barely has exclusives. Why spend $700 on a mid lifecycle console that will only be getting replaced by the PS6 in 4-5 years, hardly has exclusives, missing features, when 90% of PS5 games are still released on PS4 too and thus aren’t even pushing the regular PS5 to its limits so why go for this one? Heck, a PC would offer everything it can do and then some and would be more impressive. If they commit to going digital only then I’d go to PC as it’s digital only too except better. This model deserves to flop. So does the ghetto handheld when Remote Play is the same thing but better. Sony’s ideas lately are charge more and offer less.

I find it disturbing that these gaming companies are restricting our options more and more.
Look, I get it. Some gamers love being loyal to one gaming brand or another. I'm just not that guy. I love gaming in general and will game on ANY console I actually like. My top two favs at the moment are Playstation 5 and the Nintendo Switch. As much as I do adore those consoles and by proxy, those companies, I'm not limiting myself to one or the other.
Just like with anything brand loyalty, I also love my options for the products I purchase. PC gives me my options for digital gaming for my MMO and other Steam games I like to play, the console systems give me my options for physical gaming. You know what the key word in those statements that they all have in common is? OPTIONS. Giving me the choice on how I game is one of the reasons I love being a gamer.
Restricting my options so severely that I can ONLY go all digital, however, just makes it seem like these companies care about us consumers less and less and only want us to consume what THEY want us to consume it when they want us to consume it. In their minds, it feels like they want us to only spend a week or 2 tops playing a single game, finish it, be done with it for good, and move on. Sorry, not sorry, that's not my style. I love revisiting old games I love. Sometimes I only revisit an old game once or twice a year, others that I truly adore get multiple revisits.
It genuinely looks like my days of buying new consoles on release are done with the PS5, with Sony at least. If they refuse to show respect to their core consumers then why should I stick around for their products, especially when their brand new products are essentially going to be damn near a grand a pop to buy?
We'll see with the Switch 2 how Nintendo does but I'm keeping my optimism in check. Maybe Nintendo can learn from the mistakes of both Microsoft and Sony. Hell, I've heard rumors that Microsoft wants to try to ditch consoles entirely. I'm hoping that particular rumor is wrong though.

You can add an additional 300 to that price for all the missing components. it's beyond rediculous. 100 bucks for Disk drive, 100 bucks for the Vertical stand and 100 buck for extra controller.

At least Nintendo should still have physical for another full generation cause they are much slower to adapt and that's a good thing in this case. It's just so ridiculous so many of us don't want gaming to go this direction but the companies couldnt care less.
Those exclusives are finding their way on PC as well nowadays. All 3 games mentioned are available now or coming soon.
With the PS5 Pro priced this high, games costing 80 now (less physical discs around means they can enforce that pricepoint), online play paywalled, they're competing against capable PC's now

I think the PS5 pro is a cash grab, from what I've seen the changes they are making are not even noticeable, it allows a tree in the background that you can barely see to render.
Coming with less equipment than the original PS5 launch, no stand, no disc drive. It's pretty much 2 steps backward and a lean forward, not even a step or a tip toe.
It's probably actually worth $300-$400, not this $800+ to complete the set up

It escalated with the popularity of indie games, which 98% (hypothesis based percentage) of them having no physical edition because of the price gouging of console physical editions.

Annexation of the Philippines as a colony of the United States was often justified by those in the U.S. government and media on moral and racial grounds. The U.S. was simply doing its duty as an advanced, Western nation, spreading civilization, democracy, and capitalism to primitive Asians who enjoyed none of these things and were too simple to be trusted with self-government. Historian Stuart Creighton Miller writes that in this view, “Americans altruistically went to war with Spain to liberate Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Filipinos from their tyrannical yoke. If they lingered on too long in the Philippines, it was to protect the Filipinos from European predators waiting in the wings for an American withdrawal and to tutor them in American-style democracy.” Implicit in this attitude were notions of racial superiority and the inherent superiority of white America over primitive people of color.
The ugly reality of Americans colonial mission was laid bare by Dean Worcester, an American colonial official, who wrote in his memoirs that the Filipinos were “treacherous, arrogant, stupid and vindictive, impervious to gratitude, incapable of recognizing obligations. Centuries of barbarism have made them cunning and dishonest. We cannot safely treat them as equals, for the simple and sufficient reason that they could not understand it. They do not know the meaning of justice and good faith. They do not know the difference between liberty and license…. These Filipinos must be taught obedience and be forced to observe, even if they cannot comprehend, the practices of civilization.
On February 11, 1899-only one week after the first shots of the war were fired-American naval forces destroyed the city of Iloilo with bombardment by the USS Petrel and the USS Baltimore. The city was then captured by ground forces led by Brigadier General Marcus Miller, with no loss of American lives.
Months later, after finally securing Manila from Filipino control, American forces moved northwards, engaging in combat at the brigade and battalion level in pursuit of the fleeing insurgent forces and their commanders. In response to the use of guerilla warfare tactics by Filipino forces beginning in September 1899, American military strategy shifted to a suppression footing. Tactics became focused on the control of key areas with internment and segregation of the civilian population in “zones of protection” from the guerrilla population (foreshadowing the Strategic Hamlet Program that would be utilized decades later, during the Vietnam War). Due to unsanitary conditions, many of the interned civilians died from dysentery.
General Otis gained notoriety for some of his actions in the Philippines. Although multiple orders were given to Otis from Washington to avoid military conflict, he did very little to prevent the breakout of war. Otis refused to accept anything but unconditional surrender from the Philippine Army. He often made major military decisions without first consulting leadership in Washington. He acted aggressively in dealing with the Filipinos under the assumption that their resistance would collapse quickly.
A member of the American colonial government offered an alternative theory on what Bell was achieving, noting in his official report that far from breaking the spirit of the Filipino people, the blanket policy of violence and destruction was:
… sowing the seeds for a perpetual revolution. If these things need be done, they had best be done by native troops so that the people of the U.S.. will not be credited therewith.
Otis also played a large role in suppressing information about American military tactics from the media. When letters describing American atrocities reached the American media, the War Department became involved and demanded that Otis investigate their authenticity. Each press clipping was forwarded to the original writer’s commanding officer, who would then convince or force the soldier to write a retraction of the original statements.
Meanwhile, Otis claimed that Filipino insurgents tortured American prisoners in “fiendish fashion.” During the closing months of 1899, Aguinaldo attempted to counter Otis’ account by suggesting that neutral parties-foreign journalists or representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross-inspect his military operations. Otis refused, but Aguinaldo managed to smuggle four reporters-two English, one Canadian, and one Japanese-into the Philippines. The correspondents returned to Manila to report that American captives were “treated more like guests than prisoners,” were “fed the best that the country affords, and everything is done to gain their favor.” The story went on to say that American prisoners were offered commissions in the Filipino army and that three had accepted. The four reporters were expelled from the Philippines as soon as their stories were printed.
U.S. Navy Lieutenant J.C. Gilmore, whose release was forced by American cavalry pursuing Aguinaldo into the mountains, insisted that he had received “considerable treatment” and that he was no more starved than were his captors. Otis responded to publication of two articles concerning this by ordering the “capture” of the two authors, and that they be “investigated,” therefore questioning their loyalty.
When F.A. I know I've said this thousands of times before but to be honest I really only seeing this going down one way, if both Xbox and Playstation drop physical media, then somewhere along the lines the console market for those two simply wouldn't exist, I just don't see it being realistically possible for a PS 7 or a Xbox Series 7 Pro to exist and it be digital only and somehow not causing some kind of economic problem.
I'm not a fortune teller or anything but I really don't think that a digital only video game market is sustainable.
I think it is clear future consoles (PS6) will not have a disc drive as standard. Hopefully you will be able to as an optional extra. I think Sony will regret this eventually. They as going to lose out on all that Blu-Ray and UltraHD money.

Still have my old consoles and all my physical media. Will not be continuing to give Sony money but instead I’ve been building up my game library. I cancelled my sub when they raised the price of it. To be honest, physical games are not so "physical" anymore. A plain box, with no booklet inside it most of the times, and of course the game is not on the disc, you still have to download most of the game.
It's about ownership, not actual physical material. If they let us resell digital games and weren't legally allowed to ban your account, there would be no discussion around physical vs digital.

This is why things like the PS5 pro is being questioned. I do include the PS5 disc drive because why wouldn't I? Why buy a console with no disc drive when it's one feature a console has a PC doesn't? But yeah the value argument for consoles is gone if this sets a precedent.

But you get pc you can game on, you can work/learn on. You get a more universal device.

I am not interested the ps5 pro, but I am more into retro games. I bought a bunch of stuff before it was really expensive.
I’ve always been a physical disc person, I like having a couple stacks of games. If this is where the future is headed, I’m not sure what I’ll do. But I’ll be damned if I spend $7-800 on a console. The only reason I bought a PS5 a year ago was because of Spider-Man, other than that I’d still be playing my PS4.

Hell, a console without a disk drive wasn't even A concept that us as consumers even thought of, those two things have intrusionally linked together as as one, _ should be_ companies have forced us to rethink it in a way that benefits them so they can resell it to us for a higher cost.

To be honest i think of playstation 5 pro is just a lazy copy design of the same one that you already had 3 years ago but increased the price of 400$ to 700$ feels like sony is literally scamming people by convincing them about,how it got ultra 4K graphics or something by showing gameplay of spider man 2 and ratchet and clank but from what I'm seeing its the same 4k, fidelity and performance mode from the PlayStation 5 and you cant really convince me otherwise to believe this console is new and improvement but its literally the same console but 700$ so what sense would that make if you purchase this console when it comes out its same the same console if you realize After 3 years this is same console.

It’s crazy people crying about $700 console. When they don’t have to buy the shit. But they don’t have nothing to say when pricing for food is sky high no matter where you get it from and I am talking the market too. And have no choice you have to buy food or your body will shutdown. That’s something people should be crying about things that you have no choice but to spend your money on. All this crying only tells me one thing ps5 pro will sell the fuck out I will shock if it don’t with all this free advertisement.
I don't think you're seeing the bigger picture here. Its not so much that people are mad that the console is 700 dollars though that does suck it's the fact that they released it at a time when everyone is struggling. It's kinda like if a bunch a people were lined up at a food bank and I came up to them and tried to sell them the newest iPhone and actually expected them to buy it. It makes Sony look super out of touch with the state of the economy it also shows that they don't pay attention to or listen to what their fans ask for. Nobody was making videos about the PS5 being too underpowered; there weren't forums full of people complaining that the console was too weak. But you know what there was tons of videos and posts about how we wish we had more games but instead of doing that they wasted money and resources on the pro to give us something we didn't want or ask for to begin with.
Not to mention they topped off everything by trying to sell it without a disc drive which is strange because it's an enthusist console and stats show the disc drive model sold more than the digital so it would be a no brainer to include with the pro. But they didn't which shows they no longer care about physical and want to move away from it thankfully you can attach a disc drive to it but that's because it was already an option from the slim and wouldn't cost them any extra money because the drives already exist so it was little more than a token effort on they're part which is better than nothing but shows they're true thoughts and intentions on physical.
Also lots of people are complaining about the price of food there's videos and posts galore about that . Why would Jay a gaming channel be talking about the expensive price of food that has nothing to do with his channel. I don't go to the elephant expert then get mad when they don't talk about dolphins. Also it's good to complain about this console because it dissuades people from buying it which leads to less sales which leads to a course correction making PlayStation think twice before pulling something like this again. Leading to better gaming for everyone.
The only reaon I moved to consoles was we can buy a physical copy of the game. If i have to buy digitally, i will invest in a pc again.
