Oh, we definitely realized how good we had it, we just never expected how bad it'd get! Even the 7th gen was great for the most part - it wasn't 'til probably 2009ish when we really started to see how much the internet was truly going to change the gaming landscape in terms of digital distribution, completion of games (or lack thereof), micro transactions and DLC, etc. It wasn't BAD in 2009, but we started to see glimpses of where the industry would eventually go...and here we are...
no we did not. not in terms of the prices of consoles and video games. not in terms of the quality of said games. not in terms of the game design philosophy. not in terms of the creativity of said games. and not in terms of the completeness of said games. it was truly a special moment in history.
@@zainebrown1351 It's not just inflation, AMD use TSMC for manufacturing their silicone and TSMC demand is at an all time high. I still think they're ripping it with the price tho. Fair enough as people buy 4090 for their pc and that's overkill so i guess even though i see it as not that great value it's just an option like the PS4 Pro was (which never became the defacto PS4).
Launch model PS3 was the last console I ever bought and I still play it almost daily. Servers going down literally gimps most if not all games which is why I stopped supporting new consoles. Yet I can still pop in Double Dragon 2, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 7, Mario Kart 64, and get the original intended experience.
Damn at least the PS3 had a disc drive and was backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2. Price is too high. Completely agree that Sony didn’t read the room.
the PS3 was a technical marvel. It did everything playstation at the time, had an HDD, blu-ray, hdmi, optical audio, free online play. It was worth drooling over.
@@grizzlybearking1878 I keep hearing about this inflation argument. But ask yourself have you factored in how stagnant wages have increased. Not a good metric.
The great reset, the new world order whatever you want to call it will take away all ownership. They want us to rent or subscribe everything. If we don’t wake up and fight back the world is gonna be very different sooner than we think.
The argument of "I played it once, I don't care" doesn't even make any sense... It should be an argument for physical media, not for digital, since you can sell the physical copy after playing... These people are so dumb.
@@DrNioky No kidding. I lent a guy a copy of one of the God of War Games and he only needed to play it once; didn’t have to buy a copy himself. Buy it digitally, and your stuck with a game that you can’t simply lend and get your money back if you u change your mind.
As someone who buys PC Digital, I mainly buy on sale only. So I'm paying prices where for most games, if I lose the game it's unlikely that I'll miss it. (And if I do, _I know where to find a copy anyways)_ And now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever lost a game that I wouldn't have lost if I had bought physical. Like I lost Overwatch, because _everyone_ lost Overwatch. Similar to Destiny 2 (disc / OG content) or MAG, it being physical doesn't save it.
I wasn't interested in the PS5, I'm absolutely not interested in a £700-£800 PS5 Pro. And for what? Minor graphical improvements? Wasn't the base PS5 meant to do what they say the Pro can do? The continuing decline and sadly seemingly envitable end of physical games sucks and I won't support any part of it. Though I hadn't thought about what all this might do to DVDs, Blurays, & CDs in general, guess I better ramp up my collecting.
What the hell is the point of the ps6 now? Games arent even optimized for base ps5 and top end pc games are barely distinguishable from ps5 games… sony and xbox are really painting themselves in a corner with this endless chase for graphical fidelity, i didnt see it then but nintendo’s approach of offering gamers new and interesting ways to play games is gonna pay dividends next gen.
@@JoppheimerIt’s not asking a ridiculous question at all it’s a very valid question. Will PS6 be $700 also cause if so then you’re really getting into non mass market territory for a console. It isn’t the fact the drive is sold separately that I find the dealbreaker, but that it requires a DRM check to install. There’s a future where some people who buy a PS5 Pro AND the disc drive won’t be able to play their physical games without jailbreaking the system.
Sony's greediness really makes you appreciate Sega's affordable Dreamcast. Physical media was always on sale back then as low as $19.99 for Shenmue at Target a few weeks after it released in late 2000.
Yeah, I miss playing on the Dreamcast. Oh, wait. No I don't, I still play on it to this day! Wonder if PS5Pro with it's PSSR (pi-s-s-er) upgrade can do that in 25 years? 😂
I'm still mad Sony took away your ability to freely and easily transfer individual games saves to and from USB drives. You can do it with PS4 games but with PS5 games you either have to subscribe to PSN to upload them to the cloud or do the painful (and not the least bit fast or convenient) process of backing up all your PS5 saves at once. So yeah that alone has made me stick to PS4 versions of games and it is increasingly looking like my "fat" PS5 will be the last console I'll own. I vehemently hate this new process of having a detachable disc drive you pay separate for and having to go online to pair it with a console.
@@jsc315 Aren't they? Last I checked saves were locked to the Switch as well. At least saves on WiiU were annoying by flawed system design. Switch and PS5 is just corporate greed over consumer goodwill.. 😮💨
No disc, no plastic stand and no games for $700, it finally happened, Sony has lost their mind. Even the PS3 had a disc drive and backwards compatibility but it was still too expensive.
No offense to Sega, but the way Sony is selling this PS5 Pro feels like the Genesis + CD + 32x to get the ultimate gaming setup charged three ways and won't be the best thing still after maybe a year or two.
Don't worry, Switch 2 has us covered!! I'm betting Sony is gonna drop discs altogether in PS6, but tbh, what they're asking for the 5 Pro can buy you a 1TB Steam Deck.
@@IamMrLebanon "Well, I really don't believe that there will be a bright future waiting for the so-called next-generation consoles that Sony and Microsoft are advocating right now. As you may know I was developing games until quite recently myself, I know how it is, and if any of these developers come to me and say, look, CPU or processing power is ten times as much as today, graphic capability is twenty times, then I will say, that means wore workload and slight difference with the current system in terms of letting people understand how improved the graphics shall be. So just as we have established with handheld gaming with the DS, just for example, if we cannot change the user interface of the current home console systems, and let consumers understand we are changing how the games are being played, then I am sorry, but it must be difficult for anyone to persuade people to purchase so-called next generation consoles."

In this current moden day for everything I really don't think there's going to be price drop. in the past with playstation consoles the Playstation slim was a cheaper alternative but it's not this gen, so what i the world would make u think the pro would drop in price.
My concern is what happens when the PS6 comes out? Do people buy it day one? or do they just wait for another Pro model? Will this move have a backlash in Sony's sales in the future?
It will be like in this gen - for years people will stay on ps5 and everything will be crossgen. Especially that the difference in performance will be even smaller.
Don't forget that even the pro enhanced games can't even run at 60 fps... Lmao like what's the fucking point in releasing the PS5 pro nobody was asking for one...
Consoles are just too expensive now and lower prices have been the selling point of them for the longest time lol. a $30 stand isn't that big of a deal, compared to Apple charging $1,000. I mean, yeah it's crappy that it's not included - but it's pretty much always been like that with few exceptions.
Physical media is clearly on its way out. Been to stores lately like Walmart, BestBuy, Target. There is no denying, physical media is going out but keep up the good fight. Hell, movies now go from the theater right into streaming services. Life will continue...
Feel like 9th generation console are going be last physical media platform system, everything going be digital & Streaming. Ps5 pro hint about PlayStation 6 (10th generation) As I doubt PlayStation 6 will have the option to add a disc drive to play Ps4-5 DvD, 4k Blu-ray, but All PS6 Game will be 100% Digital. For Xbox 5th (10th gen), the gaming system will be the same as ps6, but mostly Digital & Streaming Microsoft into Gamespass.
Just a quick aside per the Playstation wanting to replace PC at one point. About 8 years ago I went to a linux expo and one of the events was helping people get linux installed on their laptops. A substantial portion of that group were actually scientists and researchers who said they used PS3s running yellow dog linux for their work and were disappointed when Sony patched that feature out of the system. Also if I remember correctly there used to be an option on PS3 where you could donate some processing power to Universities to help them for research.

We get slapped with 19% in the hole country, the prices of electronics like the ps5 pro or apple products are quite a bit more expensive here even with taxes subtracted and than the fact that the € is more worth than the converted $. PS5 pro costs here with taxes 883$ and the disc drive unit alone 133$, makes added = 1016$

Good point about Sony not shipping PS5 Pro games on disc, everything will be downloadable patches. Was unsure if I’d pick up one, but this insight made me decide against. Good to have Adams point of view to clarify the situation!
I wonder how different the response would have been if the PS5 Pro had shipped with a 1TB SSD instead of a 2TB SSD and either (a) included the disk drive or (b) cost $100 less. I think either of those options would have gone over much better with fans.
There would have been backlash regardless. I don’t know if you noticed but people can’t help but whine and moan all day online about whatever the hottest controversy is
I won't be buying any more consoles. PS4 was the last I bought. Now I'm using a killer build of Batocera. I've gradually built this Batocera so damn awesome.
Astrobot apparently was well liked but isn't selling well at least in Japan...Sony is out of their minds with a $700 PS5 Pro in this economy...it would only be worth it is if Sony contracted Mike Chi to integrate Retrotink technology inside it with 100% backwards compatibility with PS1-PS3 physical discs.
I only buy physical so I went into this gen knowing it would probably be the last gen of me buying new games, seeing it actually happen though has been tough.
I couldn't even tell the difference in the footage. Mind - I have no screens in my home that could show off everything the Pro is capable of even if I were watching the highest bitrate stream possible. I'm still using the 1080p TV I bought in 2014. I have no interest in upgrading. The only benefit I'd see from the Pro is more detail - and I didn't even notice the increase on the graphical details until I watched a video where somebody zoomed in really close on objects in the distance. We need to have conversations about digital ownership and consumer rights in this arena; digital makes a LOT of sense for games, to the point where as a matter of practicality, pressing discs and cartridges doesn't really make sense. But how I see digital ownership is, "I buy the product and have unlimited use of it so long as the files are on my drives" and companies do not seem to want to give me that. To this day, when I buy digital music, I get it through a service that lets me download MP3 or FLAC files to my harddrive and back them up or burn them to discs as I please - GoG is the only service willing to provide that for gamers, and that's the problem. But I will say - if things go all-digital anyway, I have zero reason not to just get everything on PC where at the very least platforms like Steam make it easy to get a lot of games cheap. If I'm going to have little in the way of consumer rights, at least don't fleece me in the process. And that's where Sony and other console manufacturers are going off the rails. Why should I buy digital when there's no savings for me and no ability to get some of the money I spend back as credit when I'm done with the game or if I don't like it? I'm not married to physical media because of things like disc rot and day one patches. Like it or not, backing games up to harddrives and jailbreaking any patches and DLC is the only way we get actual preservations; they've been chipping away at our consumer rights even with the physical copies they sell. I see very little benefit to physical media anymore outside of being able to resell it or let someone borrow my games. As a whole, we need to start having the consumer rights conversations now that we should've been having yesterday because the format and method of distribution guarantees us nothing in this current climate - and stuff like Adobe's been pulling is exactly why this needs to happen. What's going on with games has implications on any form of digital ownership in any ecosystem - people who are happy to trade their rights for convenience today are not gonna like it when the only option to watch their favorite movie is a $29.99 per month subscription where you still have to pay $5 to rent specific titles and you can only get a censored or heavily altered version from the one they remember ala Star Wars. We can't afford apathy in this space. So not only am I not getting a PS5 Pro - with what Sony's shown off, it's very likely I'm not buying another console ever again if this is the direction they're going with it.
I feel a Sony is going to take out the PS5 slims out of stores and put in pros so your forced to pay the 700. Just how you can’t get original ps5 in stores anymore. What a time we live in.
This makes me glad I went directly to PC gaming after building my very own gaming PC, I even included a disc drive. The PS5 & Xbox Series X just doesn't appeal to me. I prefer the Switch over those two.
The arrogance of Sony right now is painful. The price & extra costs of extras is what put me off the 360 once upon a time. PS3 has everything built in, while the 360 needed a separate HD-DVD drive & wi-fi adapter before the slim model. Now PS5 wants you to buy the disc drive separately & now the stand too! 🤦♂️ Screw you Sony!
As someone who still doesn't even have a normal PS5, I can say with absolute certainty that I will be skipping the Pro and probably this generation as a whole at this point. They just increased the price of the base model here in Japan after years of it being out of stock, and now that they've raised the price by 12,000 yen (about $80 USD), suddenly they're magically back in stock? I don't think so. Might possibly pick up a normal PS5 when the PS6 comes out, but I'll be sticking with my PS4 for the foreseeable future.
The mid cycle refresh made sense during the PS4/Xbox One era because those systems were notoriously underpowered at launch. This is just a blatant cash grab and pointless when you consider the next gen Playstation will likely arrive in 2027 at the soonest.
Woah, this is the first time your channel appeared in my recommendeds in a looong time. I remember watching your console cleaning videos like a decade ago if not longer lmao. Was super nostalgic hearing the "figure it owwt" lmao. Glad to see you're still at it and doing quite well!
If no one buys it they will be forced to drop the price. Then they will likely need to drop the price of the standard PS5 as well. Figuring out how to include enhanced upgraded backwards compatibility to the majority if not all PS4, PS3, PS2 and even PS1 disc games and also including the disc drive in a package deal and allowing disc games to be fully ripped to the hard drive or external storage drives might help save the whole situation though.
I agree with your opinion wholeheartedly. I'm a PC gamer who also likes the portable consoles, and you are right. My 3DS is only usable today because of the homebrew community. Nintendo didn't care about our memories.
I think a problem is that the games just serve as installation discs and license keys at this point. I hate to say it but it does feel like physical games for modern systems are obsolete (not movies because the quality is better and you get more features). Sony wants a digital future and doesn't see the point of discs anymore and in some ways, they have a point. It reminds me of what PCs went through decades ago now. Once internet speeds got to a certain point, it didn't make sense to buy a CD copy of a game. It just served as a delivery mechanism and it was just as easy to download it. Consoles are at that stage now. All of that said, as a diehard Blu-ray/4K collector, I understand the ownership, trading and borrowing aspect. I personally won't be supporting the PS5 Pro or getting one. Not because the lack of disc drive but because the price is ridiculous and it feels like a pointless upgrade. It's diminishing the impact of console generations. PS6 won't feel nearly as special when you had a PS5 Pro come out just a few years prior.
I didn't realize that I was only subscribed to your channel on my original channel. So glad that the algorithm blessed me today. Good yo hear from you dude!
My biggest issue with the PS5 Pro is the fact that even when you compare the differences on the Pro, it's not a big enough jump to pay extra for it. It's such a small jump in graphics that the average console gamer will look at it and say it's not worth the price. The biggest advantage with the Pro is with PSVR2 and we all know how well that sold. Everything else about it with the disk drive and kick stand just seems like Sony is nickel and dime the customer.
PS5/PS5 Pro isn't my thing.. its too much about graphics to the point there is very little diversity across all platforms. The Switch 2 gets my money, its still got an identity and has lots of support at all levels. There is no point buying a PS5 pro if your library is going to be diverse because most of the games won't use its power.
For that price you could buy an almost top of the line graphics card and you're not locked into Sonys store. I think it's madness, but they must have some market research that tells them it'll sell. They have done well with hardware that's not VR so we'll see
I already didn't like the disc drive add on with the PS5 Slim. Specifically going out of my way to avoid the Slim. I only have the launch versions of the PS5 Disc and Digital. Now they're charging $700 for a disc less console and separately for the drive? Who is making these decisions over at Sony? They knew people were going to hate this but they really don't care I guess.
The fact the thing it’s 700$ like holy moly especially in this economy it’s insane and without a disc drive why I get saving cost but if the thing it’s too expensive to make and sell why make it the PS5 it’s just 4 years old and keep in mind the switch it’s half of that price and has a bigger library insane of Sony to release a updated version of a console that exist and that update doesn’t even looks impressive at all unless you absolutely love graphics
The PS5 Pro has lines across the middle of the console which are a nod to the lines Sony executives were doing when they priced the thing. - Someone on the internet
What gets me is the fact that this "pro" console has net negatives. The Nintendo Switch OLED got criticized by many for being an unimpressive upgrade, and many passed on the PS4 Pro. However, both of those console were objective upgrades, there were zero downsides. The PS5 Pro lacks the stand and disc drive, they took stuff AWAY and not little tiny things. The literal primary way to USE THE CONSOLE was taken away. Sony committed to the disc drive for the PS5 generation, sure someone can make the "digital is the future" argument if this was a hypothetical PS6, but it's not. You have just been given the "finger" if you dared invest in your consoles PRIMARY use, DOUBLY so if you're an existing PS4 customer who also spent the generation amassing many physical games. Putting that extra cost on the customer on top of the $700 tag? Absurd, plain and simple. It's that Apple-like mentality of removing primary features to sell them back.
My guy, you are having an epic rant of hot air. There is no difference between the slim and pro as far as physical is concerned. The disk drive is available to buy like it is for the slim. They use the same drive.
@@grizzlybearking1878 There is quite literally a difference. One is $700 and does not have the drive included. Even if it is compatible, like I said it's that annoying Apple mentality.
I hate this ($700 with the disc drive sold separately at around $80 and the stand sold separately at around $30, making the combined price of the console to be about $810... taxes not included. THIS IS INSANE and I hate it). Sadly, they are doing this because they have beaten Xbox to a pulp this generation. PS5 sold about 60 million units, Xbox Series X/S sold about 30 million. PS5 has 2024 exclusives like Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, etc, and PS5/PC combo exclusives during 2024 like Helldivers 2, Pacific Drive, the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake, Concord (granted, that last one doesn't count anymore due to it surviving for only 14 days. LOL. I actually had the chance to play Concord during the final five hours due to a physical copy I got off of someone the night before the shutdown while also using the official Concord controller . Now my physical copy is a glorified Frisbee. LOL. At least the after market value of it has gone up). Meanwhile... Xbox Series X/S had ONE console exclusive release during 2024: Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2... that's it (yeah, it's also on PC, but I'm ignoring that... I need to mention an exclusive for the Xbox Series X in 2024 and this is as close as I can get. LMAO. And it's digital only, not even a physical copy of it). I was going to mention that upcoming Indiana Jones game... but that is no longer Xbox Series X/S console exclusive and it's coming to Playstation 5 (Playstation's channel even had a trailer for it). And Avowed got delayed to 2025. Anyway... Point I'm trying to make is that the "fight" between the Playstation 5 vs the Xbox Series X/S is EXTREMELY lopsided. The Playstation 5 has gotten more exclusives during 2024 than Xbox Series X/S has gotten during it's entire lifespan. Even third parties are putting their games on Playstation 5 first and delaying the Xbox Series X/S version (Black Myth Wukong and the upcoming Forever Skies being examples). Point of this... I HATE the crap they are doing for the Playstation 5 Pro. It's horrible. However, this is all a result of Xbox not being credible competition anymore. The only hope is Nintendo's new console (which strongly appears to be coming sometime next year) being powerful enough to run all the third party games PS5 gets in a respectable way (I'm guessing it will only be about as powerful as a Xbox Series S, but that's still a lot better than the current Switch which is having problems running a lot of third party games in a respectable way, causing a lot of third parties to skip the Switch. I hope the new Nintendo console is awesome).
I am totally agree with you. I am a playstation fan since the first PS console in the 90s. I own all their system and enjoy gaming on all of them even now. However, I don't see the need for a PS5 Pro. The situation with the PS4 Pro was different, it was relevant for the new 4K TVs back then. But now, for a couple of shades and lights more (invisible to the naked eye, unless you pause your game and zoom in) they justify an 800€ new model ! It's more than 900€ if you add a disc drive ! (In Europe, 800€ is already more than 800$, so even including US taxes the prices are still higher in Europe!). Apart for a small niche of competitive eSport gamers, and maybe TH-camrs, there is absolutely no need for this mid-gen upgrade !
So far this generation, even the original PS5 hasnt appealed to me due to the lack of exclusives compared to previous gens. So what makes Sony think a $700 machine will be any better? LMAOOOO this has been the worst gen by far. Best example is that we are almost 5 years into this generation, and we still dont have GTA6 yet because Rockstar wants to keep milking GTA5 endlessly. (Watch the Rockstar shills attack me and defend their daddy Rockstar by saying "RoCKsTaR iS tHe bEsT, yoU'Re juST a HaTeR". All those Rockstar shills should invest in some knee pads to service Rockstar with that gawk gawk 9000).
Not to go at length defending rockstar, but i honestly think these gigantic AAAA games just take too long to make. On 6th and 7th gen it took 1-3 years, on 8th it took 3-5, now top end 9th gen games take 5+ years to make. So starting a ps4 game will just roll into ps5 and ps5 games are gonna be ready by the time ps6 comes out. I think the idea of consoles having “generations” is becoming rapidly outdated because it takes a dev 6-7 years to make one game
@@michaelmcguire7526 Do games take longer to make now? Maybe so. But I know damn sure it doesnt take 10, 15 or 20 years to make a new game so dont try with the excuses. Everyone with common sense knows that the #1 reason that GTA 6 is taking so long is because Rockstar is still milking GTA5 for 11 years.
@@michaelmcguire7526 RDR2 came out in 2018, that was 6 years ago. Thats more than enough time for Rockstar to have put out another GTA game by now. And even if GTA 6 isn't done, we definitely should've had much more info on the game by now like a 2nd trailer or some deep-dive gameplay footage. Their lack of info on GTA6 is what makes the situation worse. On top of that, Rockstar barely even supports RDR2 anymore. They've literally abandoned the game in order to keep milking GTA5 dry. So using the "RDR2" excuse doesn't work anymore.
21:53 it's not just 'a measure' of convenience, it is an IMMENSE convenience. Not buying the PS5 Pro. Way too expensive. Also I am gaming on my Nintendo switch with games I play & like on there. There's no need to play games on the PS5 when games on the switch are a lot better.
I've kinda left gaming anyways but this is wild. As a PC guy I just can't see investing this heavily in a console. I had the money in 2016 to build a great pc and with compromises, I can play modern games without a hitch. On console, you just aren't welcome at all. Maybe at the launch, it makes more sense, but towards the end or at least half way to ask $700 is just wild. Idk 🤷♂️ happy for people who want this and have money to spare. Edit: I also couldn't agree more about physical media.
In my opinion the biggest problem with the PS5 pro is it does not include a disk drive so it does not support physical media, if it doesn't support physical media I'm just going to buy a PC I'm not going to waste my time with the console. Appreciate your take on this and actually discussing some of what may have gone into the pricing instead of just saying "PS5 Pro price bad". I'm not defending the $700 price tag by any means, but I can kind of understand how we got there. First, we're used to slim versions of consoles getting price reductions... and that didn't happen. So now you can't charge $500 for the Pro. So you look at charging $600. This is only $100 more than the regular disc version. The perceived difference in price for people is close enough that most would opt to spend the extra $100 for the Pro, even w/o the drive. So now you're taking away from PS5 sales and you don't want to do that either. You're still trying to sell the cheaper system. And for those that want a "pro" i.e. upgraded system, the perceived value in upgrading is lessened bc they're so close in price. So now, you're in the $600+ pricing realm of what to charge. Then you factor in the current economic state of things, R&D costs, marketing, etc., and voila! You now have a $700 system. Realistically, with things being the way they are, a max of $650 with a disc drive would probably have gone over better with people. Even without a stand.🙂 I was all in on the Pro until yesterday. The price and no disc drive killed it for me. Just sticking with my current PS5.
You and I disagreed over the importance of physical media. I didn't think you needed to worry so much over but you were 100 % right. My mom is 63 and just started playing games and didn't wanted digital. She thought physical media was special. That shocked me. She said Just holding the case in your hands feels good . I don't like a discless future. After seeing companies take away bought games from people, my perspective has changed a bit.
Even though the PS3 at launch was $600, at least it made up for it with backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, Blu-ray support, and at that time decent storage space.
The problem with adjusting for inflation is that most salaries haven't adjusted for inflation.
Hundred percent true.
That part. Many in the auto industry (manufacturing jobs) should be making $40+ an hour.
@@PrezidentHughes it’s crazy, I keep hearing on the news that average pay in the country has grown by …% each year but nobody I know is seeing it in their pay packet.

We got it good now. You can easily emulate all of those games on your phone now.
@@CNTconnoisseurThat's a bit of a stretch, emulation for those systems is far from perfect, phones aren't a home console, no online with those games, plus he's probably referring to the status quo of that the current systems are doing.
@@DuckAlertBeats For the 4th, 5th and 6th generation? They run great on my phone from 2 years ago. I think you're thinking about the 7th generation.
No disc, no GAMES, no plastic cheap stand, no backwards compatibility…hell no!!!

I am saying already hell no to the PS5 1st gen in general.....
I feel Sony is reaching that level of cockiness they had right before the PS3 release.
Absolutely and it's gonna hit the harder when reality sets in
Sony really has been making a lot of big mistakes this last year
I glad I'm not the only one thinking that.
So….. does that mean PS6 will be awesome lol?
Yeah, every time Sony becomes the market leader, this happens. Same with PS3 after PS2.
Am I the only one who wants ether Microsoft or Nintendo to announce a new model and just say 299… just to reference how Sony did that years ago

@@zainebrown1351 It's not just inflation, AMD use TSMC for manufacturing their silicone and TSMC demand is at an all time high. I still think they're ripping it with the price tho. Like PSSR AI gpu upscaling to 4k? So just a Sony version of AMDs FSR. I just don't see this gen lasting 3 more years it'll be 4 years already in winter. Fair enough as people buy 4090 for their pc and that's overkill so i guess even though i see it as not that great value it's just an option like the PS4 Pro was (which never became the defacto PS4).
The regular PS5 model is still there. They're not discontinuing it. How are people this braindead?
Not happening. This will also be you base playstation 6 price.
Free online too
It was also the cheapest Blu ray player
the PS3 was a technical marvel. It did everything playstation at the time, had an HDD, blu-ray, hdmi, optical audio, free online play. It was worth drooling over.

(And if I do, _I know where to find a copy anyways)_
And now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever lost a game that I wouldn't have lost if I had bought physical. Like I lost Overwatch, because _everyone_ lost Overwatch. Similar to Destiny 2 (disc / OG content) or MAG, it being physical doesn't save it.

Sony has turned to the dark side! Dark day for physical media!
I don’t understand the people that are saying physical media is holding technology back, how exactly is it doing that?
I agree with you.
Very good post
I feel a Sony is going to take out the PS5 slims out of stores and put in pros so your forced to pay the 700. Just how you can’t get original ps5 in stores anymore. What a time we live in.
I'm still playing PS4 anyway, and i'm playing Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, PS1, Dreamcast more than that so kinda says where we're at with gaming atm.
Screw you Sony!
Hold out for a year at the minimum, so they can fix all the launch issues and inevitably ship a version with the disk drive.
Sony is smoking some good shit, i know that much
The mid cycle refresh made sense during the PS4/Xbox One era because those systems were notoriously underpowered at launch. This is just a blatant cash grab and pointless when you consider the next gen Playstation will likely arrive in 2027 at the soonest.
You’ll have to buy the controller separately soon

700 bucks to not have blurry backgrounds in games.
"you should be scared of these people," what a sobering and true statement. Thanks for the great commentary as always Adam.
@@grizzlybearking1878 Get Jim Ryan's shlong out of your mouth before you speak.
@@grizzlybearking1878 There is quite literally a difference.
One is $700 and does not have the drive included. Even if it is compatible, like I said it's that annoying Apple mentality.
@DoctorMinjinx Read my words. No difference "as far as physical" is concerned. OBVIOUSLY, there is a difference as far as a price is concerned.
ADAM!!! I been WAITING for your vid about this!! lol Love your takes on console gaming!!
What was definitely DOA was that weird AI Sony guy with the wig who was giving the whole presentation 😂
When they release a disc drive option for the same price then I’ll probably get one. Rachet and clank rift apart will be unbelievable probably
It already looks amazing
@@thechosenone2123 im not sure how the teams are split up but rockstar also made Red Dead 2 in between.
So using the "RDR2" excuse doesn't work anymore.
at least it isnt bethesda with new elder scrolls. Or nintendo with new mario kart. Or metroid prime 4. Or kingdom hearts 4…
21:53 it's not just 'a measure' of convenience, it is an IMMENSE convenience. I don't have to go to the store, I don't have to wait for my game disc to arrive in the mail, I don't have to get off my couch and go to a shelf or a disc binder to swap games. Hell, I don't have to buy shelves or binders to store new games, and I don't need a larger and larger living space to store my games. In some cases I don't even need to by external hard drives to store the games. There are MANY benefits to digital content.
Yeah, at the cost of rights.
I'm just like you, Adam. If physical media goes away so do I. 😣
I'm still on my PS4 Pro 9.00 -jailbroken with 60fps patches and ALL THAT GOOD STUFF- and was saving for a PS5 to buy at a point that it actually got some GOOD EXCLUSIVE games, then ps5 pro came up so I thought: EVEN BETTER! MY WIN! I'll go for the more powerful one! (Specially because of GTA6 and Ratchet and Clank) and honestly I'm gonna buy it anyway, because my mind has been set on it for a while and I have the money, [plus got all my favourite ps5 discs already], but it's not what I was expecting.
Already own good amount of old gen consoles with more than enough excellent quality games that I won't need anymore after this. I'll stick to those, and if one day in the future I felt the need to experience new games, [considering everything will be digital by that point] I'll just simply use a PC.
P.S. I've been watching your videos for the good part of the last decade, and by far this was your saddest one.
I fully moved to PC after the Dreamcast, I see no use of any of these newer consoles, and I'm saying this with a severly outdated PC.
Avid pc gamer here and watching your videos, long live Dreamcast and long live Shenmue!
Not buying the PS5 Pro. Way too expensive. Also I am gaming on my Nintendo switch with games I play & like on there. There's no need to play games on the PS5 when games on the switch are a lot better.
I like the way you explain things to make it make sense. Great video.
$800 for a marginal upgrade
Physical forever - hopefully
at least Nintendo keeps it alive
I've kinda left gaming anyways but this is wild. As a PC guy I just can't see investing this heavily in a console. I had the money in 2016 to build a great pc and with compromises, I can play modern games without a hitch. On console, you just aren't welcome at all. Maybe at the launch, it makes more sense, but towards the end or at least half way to ask $700 is just wild. Idk 🤷♂️ happy for people who want this and have money to spare.
Edit: I also couldn't agree more about physical media.
@Andrew_Holt couldn't agree more. I pretty much just play rollercoaster tycoon on my phone at this point
It's like Sony is like wanting me to not upgrade my PS4 to PS5
This is like buying a $2000.00 phone with no MICO SD card slot😂
In my opinion the biggest problem with the PS5 pro is it does not include a disk drive so it does not support physical media, if it doesn't support physical media I'm just going to buy a PC I'm not going to waste my time with the console. I buy consoles for physical media if it doesn't support it I don't want it
But it does support physical media, you have to buy the disc drive separatelyl
@@RetroGamesBoy78 Right so the PS5 is digital only... unless you spend more money and buy this additional part sold separately
@@jwdickieson but it has the means, that's the point I'm making, it's not like the original PS5 digital machine that was 100% digital only, no option to upgrade.
@@RetroGamesBoy78 yep you're right at least this version of the PS5 has the ability to connect a disk drive to make it physical but for me that is an ending point not a starting point I should not have to pay at least 80 extra dollars to stick my disc into the system it's a damn console not a PC, have you watched videos the PC Master race fools, they are just shitting all over the price point of this console
@@jwdickieson I agree, having to buy the disc drive separately is a joke, there should have been two versions of the Pro just like the original and Slim versions.
The nostalgia is crazy rn, love your videos man.
Sony ruined gaming.
Even though the PS3 at launch was $600, at least it made up for it with backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, Blu-ray support, and at that time decent storage space.
