    I had the small in this for a yr . Went bk to sportsbikeshop in Leeds today for a new lid as this was just too small. Came home with another in size medium . It’s just a beautiful helmet , also bought myself the HJC F70 carbon . Great fit and great vision from visor. No idea why I bought two! … great shop,and service as always .

    Great review, I've got a RPHA 70 helmet, which is good quality (except the visor insert as you state), plush and comfortable. I tried loads of helmets on before settling for the HJC. My best advice is to get a helmet which fits well rather than going for a specific brand. My only complaint/niggle is that a seam in the head lining makes a horizontal indent on my forehead. A small price to pay for a fantastic lid. Well worth a look!

      Thanks for getting in touch with your experience, Dave. I agree with you that fit has to be the most important consideration when choosing a lid. I've used some helmets over the years that I knew would have been brilliant if only I could change my head shape. The distraction of an uncomfortable helmet can definitely be enough to cause an accident. Cheers, Tony

    I just got this helmet for %40 off.. how could I not? The other helmet I was looking at was roughly 30 euro cheaper and was a modular helmet but when I compared it to the RPHA 70.. it was a no-brainer.

    Great review, really considering on of these, as l have owned an earlier RPHA 10, which has been a fantastic helmet, l have been struggling to find a local shop to try a 70 on, my RPHA 10 is a size medium, is the internal shape the same size etc on the RPHA 70, if so, l can buy on line, thanks..

      I wore a size medium in both an RPHA-10 and RPHA-70 and don't recall a big difference in shape. Perhaps the 70 was a little tighter around the cheeks, but not by much. I hope that helps you. Cheers, Tony

    Awesome review. What are the differences between the 70 and the 70ST?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I think you're referring to the RPHA ST, which is now discontinued. I've no experience of that helmet, but looking at the details the RPHA 70 carries over some of the ideas but with significant differences. The shell is sculpted differently, the venting is lower profile, the visor is different and the lining is changed (with emergency release cheekpads). There are probably lots more differences than that, but we don't have any RPHA STs here to compare them with. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    Great video with some real honest information. I'm tempted by one of these helmets for touring duties. I rode with a RPHA11 a few years ago and wore it again today for the first time in ages and was staggered at how comfortable and quiet it is. A real 'don't know I'm wearing it' lid. Would you say the 70 is a touring version of the 11? Cheers.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for getting in touch, and sorry for the delayed response. That's not a bad way of putting it - the fit isn't as close around the cheeks as on the RPHA 11, which means the 70 better suits longer riding stints, and obviously the sun visor is very useful when touring. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    thanks alot

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you, that's very kind. It's impossible to say with any conviction, but I personally suspect it may not pass the newer standard. I'm basing that on this helmet's three-star rating in SHARP. This helmet is lighter and narrower than many of the ECE 22.06 helmets that are now on the market. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    I find the visor won’t stay in place in all but the very top opening position, the wind pushes it closed? Is this the norm? My rpha90 needs a firm push at each detent.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A colleague who has an RPHA-70 tested this last night for you and says the visor stayed half open when riding in 30mph zones, but then closed of its own accord when she accelerated in a 60mph zone. I'd say this is normal on bikes with no screen, though obviously bikes with tall screens give shelter and allow a visor to stay half-open. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope this helps. Cheers, Tony

    Hi, my head measure 58cm which should be a size medium for HJC helmets. I have an ic17 but I went for a large instead of a medium which I feel very comfortable. Do you suggest I go with a large on this one as well?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Alex, I have a 59cm head and ran a medium in the RPHA-70 so I would start with a medium in your position. One area to watch is round the jaw as they can be a bit narrow there and cause a bit of tension until the padding beds in (if it's not too tight). Hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    I'm considering upgrading to this lid. Is it similar in fit to the HJC I70? tried a shark evo GT recently (brought online) after trying the ER YARI and evo 2 one both fitted yet the GT didn't 🤔.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I reviewed the i70 a couple of years ago and had to go a size bigger than I wear in all HJC RPHA models, so in my experience the fit is different. I've been large in five different RPHAs over the years, but a large in the i70). Interesting comment on the Evo GT. That's one of the next helmets on my to-do list, so it'll be an interesting to see how it works with my weird-shaped swede! Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

      @@sportsbikeshop yeah I was a bit gutted as I loved the look of the GT. Felt sturdy an well made just wasn't ment to be it seems. I'll definitely be taking a look at the RPHA 70. Aggressive look touring comfort whats not to love. The I70 has been a good lid. Comfortable an fits well only issue I have is the naivety of the colour combination I went for being a new rider. That an my bday is coming up so figured I'm worth a treat upgrade 😂. Considering the Arai debut as my backup as 100% large fits. Lack of sun visor puts me off though

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Debut is a really nice helmet, but that lack of a sunvisor is the main thing that is putting people off Arais these days. Another similar option, with a sun visor, that's often overlooked is the X-Lite X903... www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/2964

    Tried on my size but felt really tight are the sizes small?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for getting in touch. The break points between sizes are a bit different to many other helmets. For example, a size 58cm is in the range for a large RPHA70 when in many helmets it would be a medium. I wore the same size as usual so this didn't affect me, but it does seem to make a difference for quite a few riders. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    I have got this helmet and its generally very good but, I do find that if I wear it in the rain that I do get some water coming in from the top of the visor which runs down the inside of the visor. I have even tried it with the visor with a rain seal (HJC Road Legal Race Visor With Rain Seal HJ-26 - Clear) but it still leaks a little. Any thoughts on how I can fix this annoying issue?
    Thanks

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There may be a small amount of adjustment available to you. If there's a gap between the plastic baseplate and the edge of the recess in which it sits you can undo the two screws holding the plate on and slide it back before tightening the screws again. This will pull the visor back and give a tighter seal against the trim. If not, unfortunately you're a bit stuck. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps you. Cheers, Tony

    • @alexjordan1340
      @alexjordan1340 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sportsbikeshop Thanks Tony, I've made the adjustment to the baseplate and just waiting for the heavy rain to see if it's worked, fingers crossed.
      Can you recommend a replacement helmet, that is better than my HJC RPHA-70 (as I've managed to make a nasty gouge in the RPHA)?
      I use the bike every day for 2- 4 hours in all weathers on a sports-tourer and I won't be using this helmet on the track.
      Cheers, Alex.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi again Alex, sorry to hear you need to replace the RPHA. Whether a helmet is better will always depend on what you need it for, and how well it fits you. The most likely alternatives in my opinion are the Shark Spartan GT (bit.ly/GTSpartan) and the X-Lite X-903 (bit.ly/xLiteX903) as these are both a similar price to the RPHA and also have the internal sun visor and D-ring strap fastener. The X-Lite is currently being cleared so there's limited availability, but good prices. The X-903 Ultra Carbon is continuing in X-Lite's range, but is about £50 more than the RPHA. I can't say either of these helmets are better than the RPHA, but they may suit your needs better. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps you. Cheers, Tony

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it depends on which country you're in, but here in Europe HJC's shape is relatively neutral. The RPHA series of helmets in particular seem to suit a very wide range of different riders. The best advice I can ever give is to try one on to see how well it suits your head. If you're in Britain and can't get to one of our shops then our free returns makes it easy to send it back if you try it at home and find it uncomfortable. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    Hi. Can you tell how secure this helmet is? Sharp is only 3 stars.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the SHARP test is designed to reward helmets that exceed the performance levels demanded by the ECE 22.05 standard for road use, so 5/5 is the maximum score, not the minimum. There's nothing I can say from wearing a helmet in normal circumstances that can add to or detract from the findings of the SHARP test. My advice - if you're concerned enough about a helmet's rating in SHARP then you should look for a helmet with a higher rating as that will give you more confidence that it would protect you should the worst happen. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    • @sportsbikeshop

      HJC say they make their helmets in a neutral internal shape to try and suit all European head shapes. Always best to try one on before making your final decision. Cheers, Tony
