Doing well out there. Mosquitoes suck, literally. You could pin 🧷 about half of the back flap up while hiking and then let it down when you do pack-off stops and in the evening. Nice job with the videos.

Your XMid looks great out there. Took mine on the AT last week for 5 nights. It was awesome, and I saw 3 others with Durston tents.

Hey North Star... That spectacular scenery you're walking through that begins at 7:38 reminds me of something I've carried in my pack for many years.
In the visitor's center on the Blue Ridge Parkway just north of Asheville, is a humongous photo of the roadway and countryside of a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The photo is full scale and is mounted on the wall. It's the kind of scene whose beauty practically begs you to go step into it and start walking... like where you're walking.
Near the bottom of the picture is a quote by Paul Scott Mowrer. It reads:
"There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country. A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo. Even a bicycle goes too fast."
When I first read Mowrer's words, I just had to write them down and I've kept that copy in my pack since that day. And on the days when I'm hiking in those awe-inspiring landscapes, as you are now, I like to take pause, sit down, retrieve Mowrer's quote from my pack, and in rereading his words, yet once more, remind myself that there few blessings in life that can fill you with as much joy, choke with as much emotion and leave an unforgettable image as that of having good health, a pack on your back and WALKING through the beauty of nature.
Mowrer is right, "Even a bicycle goes too fast."

First seeing you in the wide brimmed hat is growing on me at first I thought not North Star but I agree with your Mom the wider brimmed hat is better for you in the harsh high altitude Colorado sun. You are a very special woman and an example to of women & young ladies to be bold and adventurous. Love the straight forward honesty about the daily trail experience good & bad or rough days. But it is kind of a metaphor for life joy doesn’t necessarily only come from days that everything goes well, but knowing inner joy, even in the days that are rough and test you. Your smile reflects inner joy, and that is greater than simple happiness. Please keep posting love your photography. I lived out in Colorado around Denver in Boulder and Evergreen for about three years, and only had one day a week off, but always spent it in the mountains and always thought it doesn’t get much better than this with the blue skies, the dry air and the beautiful fuse from the mountain tops. I never doubted that there was a God or who else could have created in design such great beauty.❤😊

Those moms! You will thank her later! I grew up w pool. Sun loving redhead. Skin cancer on my face in 3 different spots. Melanoma on my back. All in later years. Needless to say I didnt use much protection. Wished my mom asked me to wear a hat. 😊Happy hiking!!! Thanks for sharing.

Hiking at that altitude has got to be tough! Especially coming from someplace close to sea level!

Glad your mom got home safely and good that she let you know. Watch out for that altitude stuff - it can sneak up on you and the only remedy is getting down to a safer place that's lower by about a thousand feet or more. Good idea to camp about 1,000 feet lower than your highest point for the day. Be well, stay safe. 🥾

One of my favorite campsites while on the trail. I was there in early sept. so there were no mosquitos. The next day I hiked 17 miles. I remember these moments so well.

Since I followed your AT thru-hike, which was at much lower elevations, I wonder how the higher altitudes affect you. That, on top of the fact that you're from and live in Missouri, a state not exactly known for its alpine peaks.😉

That hat looks good on you! Gotta protect your skin. Keeping the back "skirt" off your neck can be tricky with a big pack, or the direction the wind is blowing. Tail winds will make you crazy 😂. Looks like you figured it out though 😊. Happy trekking! 🥾

Does FAR OUT charge you for each trail you want to hike?
If they charge for each trail... Does each cost the same??
I thought FAR OUT charged a monthly fee.
