    As a woman gamer, I don't want to play as an ugly woman. I don't want to be represented as androgynous slop of flesh,we are curvy. Our stature, posture, and skelaton are different from men.. slapping a wig and adding stuffed bras on a character creator with men shoulders throat, and hips is disingenuous to women..
    We want to play as beautiful women, women thay represent what we want to look like.. without the effort. I get that they're not going to have full on makeup on in the middle of a war but they can still look feminine and beautiful.

    • @iammiller5478

      Delusion. Not all women are even cute to begin with. Majority aren't even curvy or sh*t without surgery, bbl, all that stuff. Those characters on this thumbnail look better than most women I see walking out and I'm pretty sure you aren't that different either. You guys want to play as cartoons and there's lot of cartoon characters out there to play as.
      Every character in gaming represents the role of the character. You can't have a cute cartoon characters as aloy in an apocalyptic survival world or a beautiful princess with curvy hips as the samurai I'm ghost of yotei. Better wake up to reality and stop dreaming. Most male protagonist in gaming are muscular, thing, cute, ugly and it all represents the role of the character and guys don't complain. You should have seen the depiction of humans in the 90s game and then start complaining. There are lots of ugly female characters in Hollywood films way worse than this gaming characters and you all don't complain because it's just the fact. They're real and gaming would alway depict realism. You're lucky they haven't started modeling fat women in gaming because they're lot of them in real life, wayyyyyyy more than your so called slim curvy angels 😂

      That's your opinion and perception, but you don't speak for all women and describing a woman who doesn't look the way you think she should as "androgynous slop" says a lot about how you must perceive women who don't conform to beauty standards in your day to day life. Also it's pretty insane that you'd look at the character model in that trailer and think "androgynous slop"/ugly. This sums it all up here. What I hate most are those who latch onto the proponents of the agenda and defend it or ignore the decade's worth of examples that have led to pushback against things like Ghost of Yotei. Anyone who is paying attention already knows that the game will likely fulfill the new Southpark meme about the female lead, and many people are calling it out already. The thing is, given how many examples we have of it already, with Ellie from TLOU2, Aloy from Horizon, and even Black Cat from Spider-Man, it's become a patterned trend, and getting angry at people for recognising patterns will only make them more angry.

    • @Billy-bc8pk
      @Billy-bc8pk หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Meltdownlv100 You make it where the story involves her character growth and highlights how essential her character and traits are to the story. Otherwise she's just a skin swap, and at that point it is an agenda, especially if the story is inherently masculine. For instance, the stories for Stellar Blade and Nier Automota and Bayonetta worked because -- while they were actio heroines -- they also retained a lot of feminine attributes and those attributes were highlighted in the story themselves.

    • @Meltdownlv100
      @Meltdownlv100 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Billy-bc8pk What do you mean inherently masculine? A woman lead for the next GoT game which is set 300 years after the first would make sense. If she is meant to be more of an assassin, there was a role for that when it came to women.
      Also, nier and stellar blade did not need to star feminine, overly exposed women as the lead. Those feminine traits were not important to the story at all. Bayonetta is the only one that make more sense given she is a witch using her hair as a power while also being very provocative and suggestive in her personality while fighting angels. Why do you think a female lead needs to retain some level of femininity? If the story is post apocalyptic and shows a lot of struggle, would not a more masculine woman make sense for the story if she is to survive?

    • @Billy-bc8pk
      @Billy-bc8pk หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Meltdownlv100 Exposed women appeal to male demographics, which is why those characters are inherently popular and the characters from Concord are not. Nier and Stellar Blade also both tapped into story elements related to feminine perspectives related to healing, love, and bonding (especially Nier with the relationship between 2B and 9S, which was a driving force for much of 2B's actions, and in the third act of the true ending, the entire driving force between 9S actions -- something you would not get if 2B were a male).
      Also masculine women make zero sense in a post-apoc world because they simply would not exist. We see what becomes of them in real world war scenarios like Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Libya. They do not become masculine and tough and survivors -- they sell themselves for food, water and shelter, or become someone's property. It's an effinist power-trip to think otherwise, because reality has never bore out a result any different from that.

All because I am insulted for being born the way I am, but “it’s not for you bigots” or “your just hater” while we are providing very valid questions like, why can not say male or female or why is this character censored or simply why is this regarded as a bad thing

    I honestly thought this issue was overblown until I saw some of the reactions to Ghost of Yotei. People are really ready to hate this game just because it has a female lead. Not everyone hates women but a lot of people do have some kind of mental block with this. They say that they don't want political activism shoved down their throats, but there is no indication that's the case in Ghost of Yotei, and they still want to hate it. The creators have more than earned a bit of leeway with Ghost of Tsushima. People need to wait until we see more of the game to decide whether it's "woke" or not.

    To be fair, I’m just not a fan of a female lead *in this game.* The setting is feudal Japan, and I was really hoping to play as an honorable samurai for that classic heroic vibe, like in the original. A female main character in this role feels a bit out of place to me, given the historical context. It’s kind of like playing as Kratos in God of War, but then in the sequel, you suddenly taking on Athena’s role.

It’s that gamers have PTSD from all the woke agenda driven stuff you see from Suicide Squad and Concord that gamers have gotten so paranoid to everything that seems as such. Especially since Ghost of Tsushima was so beloved, the reaction has been so brash and large. It’s just the fear of this new game potentially being woke, especially since the actress who is playing the MC is a very liberal woke agenda driven in real life.

    Very smart video. I liked the analysis that it's really more about a reaction to change than anything, and if something starts a certain way, it won't result in the same negative reaction. I could even point out the reverse- the Master System port of Ninja Princess was called "The Ninja" and replaces the Ninja Princess with a male protagonist, who now journeys to rescue her. Although there was no backlash I've ever heard of (since this is pre-MD Sega we're talking about and they just weren't that popular back then), retro historians will think the SG-1000 port (which keeps the same main character as the arcade version) to be the superior one, in spite of the weaker hardware (the better and faster gameplay also helps).

    • @TheMelMan
      @TheMelMan  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @virtualturboprincessrescuermk3 thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback. I think it is definitely a reaction to change. Then a counter reaction to that reaction then a whole lot of noise because the back and forth becomes perpetual and there is no trust. And I'm glad you brought that up, too. Fans of characters don't like seeing them changed even if the change was female to male. Which wouldn't really happen current year but still. Nostalgia is very powerful and when people form bonds or take a liking to certain fictional characters, it feels wrong when that relationship is severed for no reason.
      I could even talk voice actors. If Splinter Cell was to return without Michael Ironside and they arbitrarily chose a new VA, people would be PISSED.

    Actually, it seems more that game developers hate men these days, particularly white men, as it seems socially acceptable in those circles to say that you hate them, given a recent public example. I am a man, and I've always liked to play women in roleplaying games, a preference that goes back to when all we saw of our characters was pixelated faces, so it's really not what one might suspect. This is now changing, however, after 40 years, and the reason is that big western game developers appear to have developed a presumption to moral authority, the perception they have an education mandate when making games. And if there's one rather common thing I hate above anything else in people, it's moral condescension and the presumption of moral authority. So if I have reason to perceive a female protagonist to be part of a moral education mission, rather than being a cool character who just happens to be female, I will absolutely resent it and yes, even hate it.

That's like Lora coft is now a guy now..... You must accept it.... that will piss off a lot of gamers. When you switch and bait an already an established characrter you kind turn people off and make mad. Another issue all these new games coming out are all females. Everyone here ignoring the fact that there were real life female samurai like kaihime
    Actress political views have nothing to do with their performance. Kevin conroy was gay and he voiced Batman for decades

    Your theory might be more convincing if we ever saw womens' entertainments changed as much as happens to mens'. Let's see what happens if we race and gender swap all the Disney princesses (that black mermaid movie didn't do great), re-shoot 'Princess Diaries' but starring The Rock, and make some Twilight movies that are all about gay men. Not buying Ghosts of Yotei right off is a wise consumer decision, not some kind male panic. The woke stuff tends to come as a package; if you see one bit of woke (e.g., girl boss) other woke stuff tends to come next (fascination with lgbt, racism against whites, socialist talking points, etc.) which makes a game predictable and thus boring. Also, woke on the outside usually means woke on the inside, meaning that the company has woke employees who were hired based on their demographics instead of merit, and that means a crap game is more likely. In sum, the best option is to wait, let's some TH-camrs get the game and then you can watch the gameplay and get informed about any embedded messaging before you drop $70+.
