To be exact, Avatar was shot on a special 3D rig that used the Sony F950 and most of what you saw wasn't recorded video but computer animation. As for Hugo, I'm sure they shot the movie at the Alexa's highest resolution which is 2.5K.

True, but even a 5D Mark ii was used for select shots of Avengers, and the whole Act of Valor film for ease of placement and cheap to replace in a high action set, so I would say that it is a useful feature for a wider spectrum of use!
Not Philip, but the camera seems pretty amazing. You can build a lens collection in time, but you'd at least be able to get a start. The kit lens for some amazing options they have in this camera for focus, with some decent canon primes sounds like a really great start.
4k is good when you are filming some solids or special effects so you can still crop the image and mantain that hd look soo yhe its not a need for everyone but yes for a small amount of filmakers is some situations.
Isn't it amazing that only a couple of years ago. all that was needed for broadcast was a 3CCD SD camera, like the famous Dx100 from Panasonic, but nowadays and DSLR which has over twice the resolution is not good enough for them..
Hi Philip! Would you recommend this camera for a first real film camera coming from a DSLR? I have a chance to get it for 1000 pounds with a speedbooster so I can use my canon lenses. And a black magic monitor.
The Odyssey 7Q recorder is going to you record 2K RAW 12-bit up to 240fps, Compressed 1080p 10-bit YCC up to 60fps (super-sampled from 4K Raw), Compressed 4K YCC 10-bit up to 30fps. $2,295 + a SSD will unlock all of the fs700's potential come mid august.
Nice review, didn't know about the aliasing and moire problem when you go to Super Slow Motion with FS700. I also saw that you used an adapter to the EF mount, have you encountered any kind of issues with that? focus wise or image sharpness loss?
Dear Philip, I have about $10K USA budget for a new camera. On that budget I can only see getting the kit lens and a canon lens adaptor for 2 mid grade primes own. Is this a good or bad choice? Thanks
I'm usually a canon guy and therefore I only own canon lenses, though I am in the process of looking for a camera that can shoot 240fps full HD, and as far as my research has gone the FS700 is the best option. Do you still think this is correct? And does it work just fine with a converter to canon lenses? (If I recall you said in this video that it worked fine, but I might be wrong) Thanks in advance
i wish sony would make a new version of the sony nex vg20 that has less issues. Because this camera seems much more affordable for normal people, when u want a camcorder with changable optics

Hello sir, I need some advice here. Normally I shoot with 5D mark 2 and 3. I've had the chance to work with current DP friend on sony FS7, Canon c100 mark1, mark2 and c300. Right now i got a job offer to work with a club that is establishing its own in house production house to cover different Martial arts events, shoot indoor podcasts, and video tutorials. I had the time to mess around with it, after watching your videos, I am going to mess around even more only the right way.
